Bluetooth audio madness - am I asking for too much?

Hi all,
I've just bought my first HTC unit ever (Kaiser), which is also my first Windows Mobile Phone (I used PocketPCs since 2001 but with no integrated phone so far), and it seems to have a lot of issues in the areas of "regular phone" functionality.
However, the one that is really freaking me out so far is the whole "Bluetooth audio" area. I'm just wondering whether I would ever be able to get what I want or am I asking too much.
I have 3 Bluetooth audio devices, all of them are dual Headset/Headphone ones: in-car fixed Motorola T605, Jabra BT8010 and Plantronics 590. Now, naturally, I want to use the T605 in the car, Jabra for phone calls only throughout the day and for music occasionally, and Plantronics when I'm in the gym, for both music and occasional incoming phone calls.
I had all this working flawlessly with my SonyEricsson K800i phone: each device connected to the phone automatically when powered up and automatically took over both Headset and Headphone functions. The only minor problem was reconnecting Jabra when stepping out of the car, which required only a short tap on the button.
Now, with Kaiser, things are much more complicated. When a device (any of them) is connected to the phone, both as Headset and Headphones, it works mostly OK, although sometimes there is a problem of sound not coming through the device when an incoming call was answered while playing music. The music is suspended OK, but the sound comes from the phone speaker instead of the respective Bluetooth device. This happens from time to time, not always.
But the biggest problem is the initial connection of a device after another one has already been connected. When I enter my car and fire up the engine, I want the T605 to automatically connect to the phone even if Jabra has already been connected. This I was unable to achieve. Instead, I have to manually disconnect Jabra (by powering it off or temporarily powering off Bluetooth on the phone) and then manually connect the phone with the T605, for both Headset and Wireless Music (two actions required!). Now, for me, this is unacceptable.
Moreover, when I arrive to a destination and want to step out of the car, I have to manually reconnect my Jabra to the Kaiser, again, through the phone’s Bluetooth settings as described above. A short tap on Jabra’s button no longer works for this purpose, in opposite to SE K800i.
Making the long story short, this is completely unacceptable behavior for me, and I haven’t found so far a way to make it the way I need it.
Any advices?

Have you tried the Bluetooth fix on HTC's website?
Asking is easy, searching is hard work for some people it seems. No offence..

I'm using Schap's ROM which is supposed to have this fix built-in.

Ahh. didn't see that in your first post..
I think you are suffering the same prob as many. Every time a BT device comes out, it never seems to work with what we had before. BT protocols are NOT fixed (The IEEE STILL have not fully implemented a specific proto!), they change faster than we change our devices.
As I said before (without meaning any offence) search the whole forum, many threads have been out on this subject and some advice/fixes or equipment references are out there.

Well, I did search these forums and haven't seen someone referring to the same kind of problems I'm having.
Now, regarding your comment about variety of BT devices... I don't buy that. My SE K800i is 1 year old and works perfectly with this combination of devices.
I have pretty extensive experience with Broadcom/Widcomm BT stack on PC and older models of PocketPC (the one I have is IPAQ 5555) and I suspect these foes are direct derivatives from the fact Kaiser uses MS BT stack, which is much inferior. However, it seems nobody was able to make Broadcom/Widcomm stack work on Kaiser so far...

OK, I'm sorry if you don't. I only tried to help. Seem's you've asked a question and have already formed an opinion to it!!!
I have personal experience of Sony's proprietory connection limitations.
My BT works fine on all my devices....will leave you to others.

Looks like I found a partial solution which makes my life almost perfect...
It seems the real problem is taking over Kaiser from a previously connected device. So, if I switch my Jabra off several seconds before I fire up my car's engine, my T605 is able to connect to it. Same goes the other way around, I can turn off the car engine and then fire up the Jabra several seconds later. In this case all is good.
Looks like the MS BT stack is still ill-implemented though, as, for example, when in active Wireless Music BT connection, the device is unable to discover any other Bluetooth devices or to connect to other device's BT serial interface, which makes using external GPS devices difficult.
This could be a problem for me since my car (Citroen C5) has special anti-radiation coating on its windshield which quite effectively screens the satellite signals. Therefore I came up with a solution of having a BT GPS device permanently located in the car (actually, in the driver's seat back pocket) hardwired to the mains as well as to an external GPS antenna. This setup is effectively beating both reception and start-up time problems.
With Kaiser’s limitation on simultaneous BT connections I’m unable to use this setup anymore. Yes, I could bypass using an additional GPS device by connecting the external antenna to Kaiser’s internal GPS, but this looks like a cumbersome solution as I couldn’t find a Kaiser-compatible mounting with a socket for hardwiring an external GPS antenna.
Luckily for me, I still have my old IPAQ loaded with GPS software which I prefer to use for navigation anyway thanks to its significantly bigger screen

Glad to here you have a resolution (albeit a partial one).
Just one thing, why would you want to connect to an external BT GPS at the same time as your car kit? Can't you get a good enough signal on the internal GPS or is there another reason?

Yes, that's what I wrote in my post above. This antiradiation coating is a real satellite signal killer...
But, IMO, Kaiser's screen is too small for in-car navigation anyway, so having a dedicated unit is always a plus

Yes I agree the screen is too small for general use. I have a dedicated GPS in the car and only use the TyTnII as a temporary routefinder whenever needed.

about bluetooth gps receivers

i plan to buy a bluetooth gps receiver.
i just have some question before buying one
- will any bluetooth gps receiver work with niki? are there known receivers that will not work?
- i currently have a mapking software on niki and a map of my city, is the bluetooth gps receiver all i need for it to work? by work i mean it'll tell you where you are, where to go, etc...

I have an adapt AD-350 bluetooth GPS receiver.
Works like a dime! It 'only' cost me 50 euro's (dixons, the netherlands).
Works with any app that can use GPS, (for all I know).

I use an Oasis BT GPS, wich are no longer available under that brand name but it works perfect with my downloaded tom tom software

I just paired a NAVMAN B10 the $35 special from Expansys US. It is a SIRFIII and so far it works awesome. Cant really see why it was so cheap. Yet.....

Can I use these with Google Map? I mean that I don't need TomTom or another program at all?

works real good, it's real fast, good battery and have the last chip sirf star III, and of course all this for a good price

How to setup
Could someone tell me how to setup GPS connection over Bluetooth? I have a Nokia GPS which was working on normal HTC Touch and I just can't get it work on Nike... This is what I did:
1. Turn on GPS
2. Turn on Bluetooth on Nike
3. Search for BT device, Nokia is found
4. Enter code
5. Select serial port (the only port offered)
6. I create an outgoing port (e.g. COM2) for Nokia (in settings/connections/setting/bluetooth)
7. I set GPS program port to the previously created outgoing port in setting/system/External GPS)
8. I set GPS port number in iGO...
What did I wrong? Please help me.

That's all correct. I can't see what's the problem there.

Me neither... On my old iPaq (WinMo 2003) is a lot easier to connect as there is a connect feature in Bluetooth manager. In WinMo 2006 there is no such possibility... How can a bluetooth connection to GPS initialized without iGO? How could I connect from Windows to test the connection?

Should be do-able i think, we can access both (BT&GPS) but i think pretty useless

Use mytracks, record ur tracks then stop when ur finished and save the file n send it to ur self. There u go

The reason i'm asking this is I have an iPad (yes it's a Apple gadget )
the Ipad doesn't have build in GPS. But I can use iPhone apps on the iPad.
So if i mount a bluetooth GPS device i can use TomTom on the iPad.
I have manage to pair a external bluetooth GPS to the iPad and TomTom works fine.
But it's easier for me to use N1 as an GPS modul.
Maybe this made more sense

Not to flame, just curious! How is it more convenient to use the ipad as a gps unit? Why not just use google nav? I could see it being super useful if you have say a nice sturdy car mount for your ipad but thats about all i can think of.

The second reason is it support offline maps, local POI etc. etc. etc.
My plan is not to use the iPad as a main GPS unit in my car
But I like to explore new stuff.. so it would be nice if that was possible to do.

Ahh i see that screen would make an awesome nav unit hehe. You would probably need a developer to make an application to use it as a bluetooth gps. Since it will probably need root to run it might be harder to find a developer since these things are harder to sell :\

[Q] External GPS

Has anyone experience with the connection of the galaxy with a bluetooth GPS ? My car's windows are provided with a heat shield made of a metal film, i can only use a bluetooth GPS in my cars GPS windows.
I would use Sygic.
I'm now using a HTC Touch Pro WM6.5 and it works fine with a Bluetooth GPS
I contacted Samsung with my question but the only answer i got was that i had tot contact route 66 ???
The bluetooth GPS is for me the point to buy a galaxy or not<;

Don't buy any android phone, far as I know, bt gps not supported on android. May be some workarounds for specific programs.

Its a pity that android does not suport external gps.. I'd like to use that too. (I just got a Galaxy S).
I think the galaxy S has a socket for gps antenna on the back (under the cover).. so you can at least try to plug in one of those 5€ ebay gps 1.5ghz antennas to improve signal. Just put the magnetic box on the roof of your car.

As I've replied in the GPS Poll thread, I believe TrekBuddy supports external GPS just fine, so I wouldn't think it's Android limitation rather than a choice of the programmers of most apps - IMO they just don't bother supporting external GPS when there's not a single Android device that doesn't have internal...(I guess).

I guess you got a point when you say that all Android devices have a gps chip embedded. But I sill think it's an Android limitation not supporting an external gps.
On Symbian devices, you just have to say 'use bluetooth gps' in your application once you've paired it.
In WinMo the internal gps has a com port, so does the external when you hook it up. Again you tell the gps software which com port it has to use.
This kind of association does not exist inside Android. You can hook up a external GPS, but no program will access it. The OS itself doesn't have access to it.
BTW I looked this up, but I could not find what chip goes inside the SGS. Is it SirfStar III? Can anyone confirm?

It is a Broadcom BCM 4751 chip. Designed on a friday afternoon, after a long, well-wined lunch. Or so I heard. But I hear a lot of nonsensical rumours.

I can read data with "bluetooh GPS" aplication but i did not find any redirect software.
I have a Hollux receiver that say's 10 satelites in use rather then 8 of the galaxy.

You got me wrong. I'm not trying to use the BT GPS with the SGS as that is currently not possible in android. No native stack support nor navigation apps that use the units over the internal GPS. Only that little experimental app that reads NMEA data but has no real use. I hope Android gets this in 3.0 but I doubt it.
What I will try to do with the Samsung is to connect it to an external amplified GPS antenna (1.5 GHz) via the connector on the back of the samsung (net to the SIM card).
I have not recieved the antenna yet so I can't comment... but it should at least provide some better SNR results.
PS: I also have a Holux. It is quite nice, I use it a lot with my Nokia E72 and it works fine unlike the SGS

I can understand their decision not to invest time in this as all android devices have an internal GPS... but time has proven that that is a bad idea as many units have really poor GPS. The Galaxy S is probably the worst of them all.
Without the ability to use an externa receiver you're pretty much screwed... no alternatives at all.

The free version is a trial, it disconnects every 10 minutes or so. The full version is 1.99€.
I tried the free version with two of my bluetooth devices (Holux M1200 and ncs-navi 150), seems to work fine with both.
BTW, with JM7+voodoo fix combination, the internal GPS has been quite satisfactory so far (touching wood...)

Bluetooth gps seems to have a bug. It seems to update it's location and after that sgs will give its location, what happens is that it starts switches between the two locations every second
If you turn gps location service off from android settings, the lag is gone.
However, an app named "gps provider" does not lag in the same way. I think bluetooth gps mouse app will have updatea, where this problem will be fixed.
Other than that the location is very precise using an Nokia LD-W3 bluetooth gps.

i'm using the bluetooth gps mouse with sygic mobile maps and it works perfectly. I did'nt hope it was working that nice.

What you mean with "quite satisfactory"? Does the internal GPS get a fix without A-gps support? I mean without being online?
I use GPS Bluetooth mouse unlimited on a daily basis with Motonav , Sygic or Navigon.
Internal gps receiver AND Mobile networks( A-gps) are disabled on my sgs.
My external gps receiver got a sirfstarIII chipset . In a hot start I get a fix in less than 20 seconds. Otherwise 4 to 6 minutes in a cold start.
Once again no need for internal gps receiver and / or A-gps (celular network) for for a fast and stable satellite fix. Pure GPS navigation pleasure...
Offline GPS navigation = Freedom
And it rocks on my super-Amoled gs screen!!!

Windows Phone 8 does not Support external GPS Receivers. Certain Apps could implement compatibility themselves but only those Apps would be able to use it. I guess noone will go to those lengths given that all devices have a GPS Receiver built in. Here Maps definitely won't.

I think this is an error as the internal GPS is really battery consuming, while using a BT GPS makes it possible to have battery lasting a lot more. For example if you go hicking or running you cannot recharge (well if you have a solar charger yes, but ....)
I think WP should allow having this implemented. My old N78 (symbian) did and I was really happy with it. I guess I should go to user voice and ask for such an issue
