To the Gurus of the Tilt,
I cannot get past the registration on Skype Mobile because, for whatever reason, my e-mail address is being identified as an invalid one. I had a similar problem yesterday when I tried to write someone a message via Yahoo2Go. I used a yahoo.com account and my outlook account, and neither work. What's going on??
Nobody? Has anyone else ever had this problem?

it seems this used to work and doesnt anymore...what gives?
I used to have the same problem... in your user name for the account do you have:
recent:[email protected]
?
You only need the "recent:" part of your post above for GMail. For anyone else, it's likely to create a login error.
More information on the problem would be very helpful, though. Is this Gmail that we're discussing in the original post? Or some other service?
I'm having this problem with my Yahoo mail.
Has anyone here successfully set up Vodafone Business Email on a windows mobile device. I'm paying for it, but am having a terrible time setting it up to play with our server.
I know it's probably a bit niche, but any advice would be good.
I'm entering all the information that it needs, but won't logon to the mailbox. Maybe it's the format I'm putting it in has.
email addres: email address I want to use
Password: users password.
Login name: domainname\username
Mail server: ip address.
I have never used Vodafone Business Email, so I wil give some general advice.
Have you tried setting up Outlook (Express) on your PC? Does it work then? By following this method you can check whether the problem is your Kaiser or your account (details).
So what is the exact error message? Only "access denied"?
Have you tried setting up your device by using your Kaiser to surf to http://email.vodafone.net? Maybe that will work...
Hope this will get you somewhere...
I used to support Vodafone Internally, try the link http://email.vodafone.net/ota this should give you the correct client for your device, I know that initially they had problems as the WM5 client would download which is incorrect but if you go from your device it should detect the correct one which I am guessing will be the WM6 for Kaiser one. Before you do it though please remember to uninstall the one you already have on your device as that can cause problems.
Im using Vodafone Business email. I couldnt set it up just like you.
What you need to do is contact Vodafone. Say that you have a hard to set it up and if they would be so kind to send the settings to your device.
You'll recive a text messages displaying that your device has been updated. Soft Reset and your done.
It worked for me Hope it does for you too.
Does anyone know of any bugs/issues with Windows Mobile (or any specific rom issues, for that matter) that exist with attempting to use multiple IMAP accounts? I used one of Dutty's roms before, then Alex's rom (I believe), and I'm back to Dutty's and still have the same issue. I can only seem to get one IMAP send account to work. Basically, when I was on Alex's rom, only my work IMAP would work, Gmail wouldn't. Now that I've re-flashed to
Dutty's rom, I can't get my work to send messages (and I'm certain it worked on Alex's and Gmail wouldn't), but Gmail does work. Any ideas?
Has no one else had this issue? Is there a setting or something that I've missed? I've looked up and down the phone, but see nothing...
If you're looking for issues regarding sending email, you have to search for the SMTP protocol, not for IMAP. POP3 and IMAP are used to receive mail, SMTP to send.
Are you sure the SMTP server you are using is accessible through your internet connection (I mean like 3G, GPRS, EDGE, not WLAN)? Most likely this is where the problem is situated.
Gmail SMTP is accessible through a mobile connection, but most SMTP servers from ISPs are not.
Good luck!
Yeah I'm sure. On Alex's ROM my work email would send ok (which didn't actually use smtp.xxxx.com; instead mail.xxxx.com), but gmail wouldn't send anything (using smtp.gmail.com). But now back on Dutty's, my work account wont send, and Gmail will. Does that answer your question?
In a way it does.
I tried using different SMTP server just now, but one of em didn't work. It might be the exact same issue as you have, but I think my problem has got more to do with the SMTP server itself than the configuration.
Sorry
Basically my issue only exists in SENDING emails. I can receive emails from all accounts fine, but I haven't been able to get more than one IMAP account to be able to send. Anyone else familiar with this issue, or have encountered it as well?
att smtp
I use att and the only smtp that work is their smtp. Even though you can receive any pop, you can only send through them. That may your problem
But that can't be it either. I've gotten GMail's SMTP to work on my latest ROM...just can not get my work, which is just mail.xxx.com instead of SMTP, which doesn't make any sense since I've gotten it to work before; basically I've gotten each of them to work before, just not at the same time. Also while I was at work Friday, I had our IT manager pull up the email server log, and on "send/receive" it shows it me connecting, receiving, but when it comes to sending messages, nothing reaches the server; it's like something fails on the PPC's end before it reaches the server. And I've quadruple+ checked the address, so it can't be that either.
Nobody else know anything about this?
While I was looking for something else, I ran into this:
Q.How can I configure Exchange ActiveSync to support multiple SMTP domains?A.Exchange ActiveSync locates a user's mailbox by using the primary Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address. However, if users have a different SMTP domain in their e-mail address, they cannot synchronize their mobile device with Exchange Server 2003. To address this issue, you must add a registry key to force Exchange ActiveSync to locate the user's mailbox by using a secondary SMTP addresses. For more information about how to configure Exchange ActiveSync to locate users' secondary e-mail addresses, see You receive an HTTP_500 error message when you synchronize your mobile device with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
Caution: Incorrectly editing the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Problems resulting from editing the registry incorrectly may not be able to be resolved. Before editing the registry, back up any valuable data.

It might have nothing to do with your problem, but you might wanna give it a try. Follow the link in the quote.
Good luck

Hi there! just in case anyone else suffers the same problem and gets as frustrated as I did
As of this morning, my Kaiser has been unable to send e-mail via my gmail account. I am able to receive mail just fine, but it keeps giving a synchronisation error message and a pop up box stating:
The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.
No matter how many times I retried, it just wouldn't work.
I deleted the mailbox and recreated it - it worked for 2 test messages and then failed again!! I've been using gmail in IMAP form now since January and have never had any problems with WM6.0 or with WM6.1 until now...
To resolve this issue, I searched on Google and found the following page:
http://groups.google.vu/group/hosted-the-basics/browse_thread/thread/9aed5859cd5b07d4
To cut a longish article short(!) if you go back into your mailbox settings and disable SSL on the outgoing server it seems to work!!
I don't know how long it'll continue to work for before it stops again, but it may just be enough to get that vital e-mail sent...
incidentally - I never actually had SSL set up on either incoming or outgoing servers until today and it seemed to work just fine before???
Sorry guys, just noticed an active thread on this subject already - I searched for 'googlemail' rather than 'gmail' in the search facility and didn't find anything...
Mods - can you please close this thread?
Very sorry guys!!
workaround for at&t
I was having the same problem and it was incredibly frustrating. I think it has to do with carriers trying to control spam being sent over their networks or something like that. Anyway, i'm now using cwmx.com (i think it stands for "cingular wireless messaging exchange") as my outgoing smtp server. No authentication is required as it will only work if you are on the at&t network to begin with. Also, SSL is not required.
Hello everyone,
I just got this phone yesterday and I tried to add my school email through the email app but it keeps saying authentication failed.
I added 3 of my other email accounts to this email app and they all went through. Only my school email address is having this problem. Can someone please help me out?
i'm not too knowledgeable on this, but i did have to set up my uncle's email addresses on an Android phone. i was having problems until i contacted his web host and found out the correct incoming and outgoing server ports..... then when i went thru the manual setup in the email app, it worked out.
I tried to search on my school website for the instruction on how to setup their email on another email client and it has all the incoming and outgoing info but when I tried to do it manually on the phone it still doesn't work. However, there is a note in the instruction that says that I have to use gmail app on the android device. I also use the gmail app to set up this email account and it works but it doesn't work with the regular email account. The thing is i want all my email accounts to be in one place and not having to use different apps for each account. If anyone have similar problems and find a way to solve this please help me out thanks.
hopefully someone can help you more. i don't know if this applies to you but my uncle's web host told me that some internet providers block the default outgoing port 25, so he suggested i use 8889, and that worked. good luck getting it working..
Sounds more like a "we want to force Android users to use the Gmail app" situation than a problem. Do you go to BOFH U? (Google bofh if you're not familiar with the breed.)
Before I switched to this phone I was using an Iphone 5 and it didn't have a problem with adding this email account.
I wonder what causes the regular email app on this phone to keep having the authentication failed message.
You won't be able to use it with the stock "email" app because of the way your schools exchange server works. You will have to get another email client that supports all of your email addresses. Try K-9 mail it's open source and works really well.
