I have a T-Mob MDA Var 3. When i make a call on battery power the backlight doesn't stay on. annoyingly, the only way to turn it on during a call is to hit the power button.
This seems silly as I might want to place someone on hold or start a conference, etc. I have set the backlight defaults not to turn off on external or battery power.
Does anyone know how how I can stop the backlight turning off during calls?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply - i will try that!
Not another lazy noob....
I've tried Kaiser Tweak, and verified the registry settings. I've used google, the XDA Forum and the XDA Wiki. Still, my backlight/call end problem persists. My ROM is the most current version.
Can anyone help? I really like the Kaiser, but this problem makes it all but unusable.
Thanks,
brianb

did you soft reset?
Yes....I've run Tweak and soft reset numerous times.
Thanks for checking. I'm not sure I haven't missed something.

Mine does this. very anoying especially when calling voicemail or an automated call system where you have to press keypad numbers. Have to keep turning the phone on to press the keypad.

Hi guys,
I've been reading throught the forums and cant find any posts on this so if I've missed them I do apologise...
1) when in a phone call, after about 30 secs the screen completely switches off, this is very frustrating when speaking to a call centre because I can't choose a number, the only way to wake it up is to press the call answer button again (muting the call) and then pressing it again so that I can hear again, I've checked my settings and changed the backlight and the power off to 3 mins but it still happens after 30 secs approx.... any thoughts?
2) I have iGo Sat Nav 2006 which worked perfectly on my TYTN on a bluetooth gps receiver, now on the TYTN II it can't find the internal GPS receiver, am I supposed to map the receiver to a virtual com port or something?
Thanks for your time guys.
Terry
I think the Kaiser Twaeks utility in the forum sticky ahs an option for this, but if you want the specifics, try searching as I think it is just a registry setting.
I think the GPS is set up to use COM4, but I am not much help bsdies this. Searching should also get you some answers for this.
thanks, I'll take another look.
Actually... I have one other small problem that I've just noticed...
if you choose to lock all buttons except the power button the phone still switches itself on if you nudge the keyboard slider!
is there a way to turn that off?
thanks guys
Terry
As jgermuga said,
Kaiser Tweaks will solve your screen and power issues.
The internal GPS handler is on COM4 4800Bd, you should be able to configure this within your Mapping App.
Hi guys,
I just saw the screen disable function when I downloaded the Kaiser Tweak... sorry for posting guys...
Thanks for the info on the GPS, I'll give it a try later.
Cheers

I've just seen what I did wrong... I went into External GPS (thinking that this was a confliction) and changed the COM port to say "None", I have fixed it now.
I cant believe how dumb I've been lately... this phone is now fantastic, shame I was too stupid to realise! lol
Thanks guys for all your help... I'll wake up later

The workaround for this one is to rotate the volume dial...
Does anybody experience a lag when using iGO on the tilt? It seems that it lags to move when you do and when you make a turn, it doesn't make it till a few secs later?
Another way to power the screen back on after the 30 second automatic power-off occurs is to ummm... press the power button
I'm assuming this is a bug, but hopefully there's a fix. when I go into the advanced tab under power settings, I try to set the backlight timeout on battery power to 30 seconds, but it keeps reverting back to 10 seconds. has anyone else experienced this, or is there a workaround?
Use the configuration utility located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=69442&d=1202399126 to configure this setting. Then, promptly tell it to do the soft reset. For some reason the settings don't get saved via other means. This is the easiest way to ensure it gets done correctly...just let this app do the soft reset when you make mods...then make the next mod...reboot.....continue....

Thanks the tip baliles. I have the advanced config tool loaded, but I can't find any power management options that address backlight timeout. it is called something else?
Has anyone come up with a fix for this as yet?
It's so annoying when I make a call and have to keep hitting the power button on the top left (T-mobile MDA IV) to bring the screen back to life mid call if I have to hit number keys when using automated phone service or if I need to put a call on hold etc etc...
A fix would be excellent..!
Here you go.. Works for me. I've forgotten who's responsible for the .cab, but credit goes to whoever made it.
EDIT: oops.. obviously i'll have to start reading before posting. This cab probably doesn't help you at all..
DOH!!
What does it do?
I'm desperate and will try anything lol
My screen will be darker after 10 sec.
I can set this again to 5 min. and after a few on and offs it will be back at 10 sec.
This is very annoying!
I thought i had found the problem, but it wasn't.
HKCU/ControlPanel/Backlight/BatteryTimeout setting up to 300. This is 5 minutes. It counts in seconds. But this isn't working.
Please can anyone help me?? A lot more have this problem.
I have the same problem, anyone the solution?
same problem here. I have call the helpdesk of htc they told me to do a hard reset. But it doesn't work for me. They also told me to return the phone when the problem stays afther a hard reset

yes, my backlight stay's also on for 1 minute(my setting)...hope the sound problem is also gone..
It is a bug in keypad locking
I think the backlight problem only occurs if you are using the keylock feature by pressing the end call button for a couple of seconds.
You can try it out yourself:
1) set your backlight settings to whatever you want and verify it works as intended.
2) Now just normally switch of your phone (not locking the keypad) by pressing the power button, switch back on and verify that the setting is still correct.
3) Then do a soft reset and again verify that the setting is correct.
4) Now lock the keypad by using the end call button (press a couple of seconds until locked).
5) Now unlock the phone and check the backlight settings: they are put back on the default values!! I guess it is a bug in the keypad lock functionality.
Btw, step 2) and 3) are just for verification, you may skip these to reproduce the bug.
Actually, if you use the lock feature of the device (for instance by enabling AutoDeviceLock in the registry, see tweak 18 in the stickied Diamond tweaks thread) the settings are also reset to the default values.
Is this the case for everybody? Or is it just me that it seems the locking feature contains bugs.
FYI...I had this issue from the start when I was running the Asia HK 1.34 ROM image. I flashed it using HardSPL and put the Europe 1.35 image on the device and have not had the problem since. All backlight values work normally as of now....I recommend this if your device is the HK ROM and you're having the issue. Not sure if it'll work for you, but it worked for me....
The solution is simply
You have to change DWORD LockLevel present in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\ to 0 (zero)
And now your time of standby don't change anymore
I bought a Touch Diamond recently.
But I can't resolve a problem with the fast dormont display during call function.
I tried to modify the setting in the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
I change the DWORD Data from 1 to 0.
But after a soft reset, I still have the problem that screen turns off quickly during calls.
It bothers me when I need to use the keypad during a call
to enter ext. number or to follow a vocal operation.
Does any one have the solution here?
Thanks a lot.
Craig Shih
My problem is now solved. Any one who needs the solution can go to post#19 and post#29.
But it needs more tests and feedbacks because I don't know how it works for other roms.
No body in the diamond forum knows how to solve this problem.
Maybe this is a very very difficult problem to solve.
No one knows how to sovle it until now.
Hope a real master comes to help us.
diamond bugs
yes it's really sad to have a expensive mobile without a support even the htc don't have a solution what kind of support we had ??? lucky us we had a website like XDA developer to help us tnx to the dude who put up all the tweaks and update....try to flash the euro rom it will solve the prob.blank screen during call...
as soon as phone call is received, just press on joystick centre button shortly. Display will not go off then. Simple enough.
if before you'll make the call ypu'll take out the stylus, it won't go off, and it will automatically start a note.this setting is in phone option last tab...
remember: it goes to sleep the moment you hold it against your ear (or your hand or anything in the front).
if you set the registry right it will stay on as long as you don't hold anything against the front.

that's an additional and necessary side effect since he only needs the display to stay on so he can use the keypad without pressing extra buttons.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I tried this method and then the call will be on hold immediately
until I press the central button again.
But it surely keep the screen on during calls though I have to press the central button twice.

It's a good functionality for diamond users.
But sometimes I want to use the keypad during calls rather than to make a note with stylus.
For example when we call for some credit card toll free service,
we might have to key in ext. numbers or ID numbers or card numbers etc.

Could you explain the registry for us?
Err... personal view..
If there is a solution.. it would be great.. but just in case, there isn't :
I have gotten used to it.
now if it is to enter extension numbers or whatever.. I just start off by pushing the center dial once. The key pad is there.. I get on with entering the ext. number or the Account numbers..
Same call - next time I have to enter other details, hit the center thing again.. and the key pad is there..
It's not that much of a hassle.
Of course a solution would be great, but even if there isn't, one does get used to it, in time.
why do you want it to stay on.
i noticed that when it stays on during a call, my ear is opening programs.
which i really do not want.
if you need to use the phone during a conversation just press the on button.

You are right, it 's not a big deal.
Maybe it's only my preference with mobile phone or somebody else's.
But if we can choose which way to go, that would be better.
i think there is a slotion please try
got this one now and it looks like problem solve for me

During call the light sensor can also switch the backlight off. This setting will that disable.
This registry setting will disable your screen from turning off when making a call:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable set to 0
It disables the lightsensor so it doesn't react when you're putting the phone next to your ear.
It worked for me, so I hope it will work for you as well.

Hello. That registry entry solved that problem, but still after a few seconds the light turns off, even if I set it to turn off after 5 minutes in the Power settings. Is there any registry "tweak" to increase the backlight duration during a phone call?

Yes I can. Look at this post, point 8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2278799&postcount=1
This regkey is also mentioned a few times in this thread.
See also point 17 of that post.
Done.
This is what I did
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall set to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall to 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone Sleep to 0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable to 0
That done..
Restart the phone (I waited for a minute or so)
Backlight remains on now.
Then, just for the hell of it.. went back into the registry and set back the default values for:
lightsensorpollingenable
Phone sleep
Fast dormant
Checked again.. still works.
If one or two people could confirm that this works, we could finally put a SOLVED thing to this nonsense and get it over with.
Hey guys, I just flashed the latest -G- ROM and then put tf3d on it. I made sure to install the touch power and standby .cab's as well. My after about one or two minutes being idle keeps turning the screen on and off and there is no way to make the problem stop other than doing a soft reset with the stylus. Is there a way to fix this problem?
Also I tryed plyaing with touch power but I don't seem to fully understand this program. I hit the power button and it shuts down tf3d as expected but when I hit reload tf3d 90% of the time nothing happens. Is there a way to jus make the power button work as it did before (when u lightly pressed the power button the screen turned off, long press it shut down the phone).
Thank you guys for your help, I searched and I'm sorry if this question has already been answered before.

readings hard, i from ky it's crazy how many NEW THREADS get started to ask A PERSONAL QUESTION instead of asking in the THREAD WHERE YOU GOT THE ROM!!!
no actually he asked in that thread and he also made this thread
Im sorry for the not reading the read me file, in my standby cab zip package there wasnt a read me and neither was there one for the touch power package. I tried following your advice but my kaiser doesn't seem to want to go to sleep automatically even when I have adjusted the settings to do so. I even uninstalled touch power and standby and it still won't automatically shut off the back light and sleep. Do you or anyone else know what else I can possibly do other than a hard reset?
