Ok... So i have searched evrywhere on this forum plus a couple of others so please dont flame me but my tilt is acting really weird, im pretty sure its a hardware failure, but when i use certain keys on the keyboard it types in like 3 keys. For example if i type an r i get "rew" or if i use the ok or tab button they try to close what im doing and open the start menu. any ideas what may be causing this. i'd see about going to ATT about it but after all ive read about them not wanting to help with support for the tilt, i"m kinda afraid to. i mean all else works so i can deal with out a qwerty keyboard for a bit but it"s got me kinda upset lol.. oh yeah the vibrate function stopped working too
never had that issue.. vibrate not working? check, double check to make sure settings r correct. if they r than this could be hardware related.
u sure u r not fat fingering the keys? and i see u have htc rom on ur device .. did u install tilt keyboard fix?
if all fails do a hard reset and if that doesn't help than call att and tell them to send u new phone (if u r under warranty)
well actually its the att rom... im not fat fingering it thats what i thought of first lol.... looks like im calling att lol
just got off the phone with att they"re sending me a new (refurb) one. hopefully that works...

hey ive been having this problem for the past couple days and was wondering if anyone has experianced the same thing or could shed abit of light on it.
basically whenever writing a text, or word document or typing a web address, etc and i click on the letter "w" nothing comes up and the phone crashes, doesnt let me type anything, goes super super slow and doesnt really respond to nething so i have to reset it. this happens when using the "w" on the on screen keyboard and on the pull out keyboard.
i havnt dropped it recently and its in perfect condition, also havnt installed anything recently that may hav caused it. it just seemed to randomly start happening. will have to try a hard reset if theres no other solution, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated?
I would suggest a hard reset. If it is a software error that should do the trick.
But i guess this has something to do with hardware. I had that problem with my wizard. The commanager button caused the device to crash. Once I opened it I found about 1 kg of dust sitting behind the button. Once that was out of the way the device was normal again.
edit: Just try opening the device as a last resort.
here you can find the service manual. Link removed - no longer valid
thanks mate, may try a hard reset then. but i'll leave it till weekend after exams have finished as its quite time consuming installing everything again, etc.
i perhaps should have mentioned that it only crashes if "w" is the first letter i use. if i type something else an then use it, it seems to work. (altho i havnt tested this properly, i'll assume this is usually the case). just seems like a very strange problem to get
anywayz, thank you for ur advice
nice screen name Is this a stock ROM or a cooked one? maybe the keyboard fix would correct it?

haha thank you.. umm.. its the default one that came with the t-mobile mda vario III. was working fine up until the other day.. whats this keyboard fix u speak of tho?
I have almost the same problem with my "w" key also. I have to press it longer than i do other keys to get it to type a "w" and when i do it causes a slow down on my phone.
sounds like its time for a song..

lol.. u can spell out the name of the band without the letter W.. so its good.
flobots - No "W"
anyway.. on topic.. wat rom is A7LAS using?
Hello fellow Kaiser users,
I don't know if this happened only with me or others have experienced the same.
TyTN II keys on the QWERTY after a year of use has some keys responding after the 2nd or 3rd stroke of the key.
Did anyone else experience this?
Is there a solution?
It is really bugging me when I'm typing an SMS or typing something down.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Hardware suggestions also I will try on my own risk.

Same problem here, but I started noticing it after 4/5 months of use. Would like to know about a solution also.
I feel your pain, this is what is really killing me because the keyboard is a very big part of the phone, and I've only been using it for 7 months. If i knew it would become this unresponsive i would of got an i phone because this phones on screen keyboard and transcriber is useless.
It happened to me after 7 months. The "c" key on my tilt started to become unresponsive so I called up at&t and had it warranty exchanged for a refurb. This second one was already even worse than the one I'd just sent back, so I had them send out another one. This third one is fine, although the "c" key (again, oddly enough) doesn't click like the others. It's responsive, but feels a little different. I didn't feel like going through the exchange process again, so for now I'm living with it.
My 1 month old refurb tilt doesn't type the keys when I press them sometimes. I should have that fixed. I thought it was a software problem...
My brand new XPS M1530 does the same thing sometimes. I guess I reckoned it was just me not pressing on the keys hard enough or something like that...
So I'm not the only one with the problem...
But no solution?!
Even a hint of what might be causing this would help..
have you guys tried using the disable XT9 cab ?
yes
I think it is H/W cleaning related
How to clean is the deal...
you can find disassembling guides on mikechannon's web. just follow the disassembling instructions and after you remove keyboard, try cleaning it.
Same problem for me.
I'm always very carefull with my device, and don't use the hardware keyboard very often.
Now for some letters I really have to press harder to make them work.
I have my device for only 6 or 7 months.
Have had my Kaiser for 6 months now and the Y and B keys are starting to go out. For the past couple weeks I have been considering sending it in for warranty exchange but I have taken very good care of my Kaiser and worry about what I would get back...
Anyone eager enough tried disasembling and cleaning?
Moreover, did it work?
funny thing here is that I get more unresponsiveness in the right side of the keyboard (enter; L; P; direction keys).
It is a real pain...
Most prolly will do it soon
Will let you all know of the outcome
Same here.
Had mine 8 months, the W key is worst, takes a really heavy press to get it to work, has been like that for about 5 months.
Now the B is also getting bad, so is the S.
If i'm likely to get a refurb back i guess i'll just put up with it until my contract is up.
I'm facing the same problem on my HTC herald. HTC keyboard quality has gone way down. I never faced such problem when I had htc universal.
Hey man,
since you had quite some ppls share of PPCs;
did you disassemble any of them before?
Do you think it's a good idea to do it myself?
I'm extra careful normally but I'm having doubts

Similar problems here with my Tilt. FN, CAP/SHIFT, N are all problematic for me.
Has anyone tried a spray liquid electronic "contact cleaner" on a device like this before?
Weird
Oddly enough, I have had this problem a little bit with mine as well. However mine is the space bar. I, like many others I am sure, have hopped from ROM to ROM. When I changed ROMs the last time, it seemed to fix the issue. It was really weird because a lot of the times I would type something, and the letters would turn out something like this:
Iw antt oe at atj oes.
Like I said, I just swapped ROMs and it seemed to fix it. maybe the t9?

You are correct sir! Just run "disable xt9" (found plenty of places on the kaiser forum) and your problem should be fixed.
I too have had this problem. I noticed it with the d, r, and space bar keys. Interestingly enough the keys that i press often (Take A for example [I have it mapped to the A button in PocketNesterPlus]) aren't hard to press at all. What I'm trying right now is pressing the problem keys over and over again to see if they "loosen up". Best Case Scenario: It works. Worst Case Scenario: I ruin an expensive piece of equipment.
Update: This might be working. To test which keys were unresponsive i typed abcdefghijklmnop.... without exerting any extra effort. The keys w and r didn't show up so i kept working them. I repeated the test and I got r to work. perhaps i am unknowingly pressing r harder, or perhaps not.
Can a bad flash mess up the keyboard in a way that you have to press a key 4 5 times to get the letter to type or long press it a little hard? I bought this tilt used but looks like new and i didnt really test the keyboard before i flashed a custom rom. So i dont know if it is a flash or hardware problem.
Thanks for any help
I can't think of any reason why a bad flash would mess up the KB that badly. if anything, flashing a custom ROM would mix up the symbols that are available after the FN key is pressed
thanks
I thought that too. I have had to use the keyboard fix on other flashes cause of the fn keys. I just didnt want to take it a part lol.
But figured i would have too.
Thanks
My keyboard randomly will require me to hit a button like 8 or 9 times then finally realise im pressing it. Im pretty unhappy about this because I send text messages and people cant tell when im drunk or not!

Now thats funny. I get the same remarks with my texts, but the button thing is hit or miss.
varies on different roms, but this does happen, some roms the hard keyboard doesn't work properly on, myself and MANY others have noticed this.
Well about7 or so keys i have to push real hard and they work. i did flash 2 other roms and still the same thing so gona replace the keyboard and see.
From what I understand, the SPL you're using can make a huge difference with keyboard responsiveness/speed. Maybe a different SPL would improve your keyboard issues.
Dave
Ok will try to flash another SPL again this weekend lol.. Need a break from flasing and reinstalling everything did it 3 times in 2 days. Thanks for the info
Well guy i hope im putting this in the right thread so here we go. Ok wel im having this major issue withe the touchscreen and multitouch so im gonna explain how i got to this point i change the audible selection(effect_tick.ogg) right and i did the code on terminal emulator so after expiriencing the sound of the blackberry storm it was kool but notice that it was double cliking and everytime i scroll the screen on the app drawer or even on astro it clicks on the app by it self when i didnt touch it i have tried many different roms and still i down grade the rom still having the same problem i reformat my sdcard and all partition (fat32,ext2,linux-swap)nothing hasnt help ..................... i tried to see if if there was any caliberation for the phone nothing the only rom that has calibration was the hero rom has anybody had this problem . Thanks hope some one can solve my problem .
You sure you haven't dropped your phone? sounds like a hardware problem. What ROM are you on?
I did drop my phone but it was working just fine this happend just after I did the change of sound of the audible selection but thank's for time of reading is really hard to explain with word when u type them too lol im was using jacxhero 1.4 when i did that but now im on cyaonigen 4.0.1 i think thats his name
So here is my story.. i have a perfectly working kaiser, and one with a broken lcd.. but both of them are in terrible cosmetic condition.. so i decide to order from ebay a full housing (with keyboard included) to make it look good and give it to my brother as a present..
I perfectly disassemble the device with the working screen and easily install it in the new housing.. but when i turn it on i realise that the only working hardware keyboard buttons were q e u o f h l and some arrows i think...
My first conclusion was that the keyboard included in the housing was not working correctly so i decide to use my old one. but to my surprise the old keyboard also has only the same working buttons!!!
after that i also tried the keyboard from my other kaiser ( with the broken screen) with the same results.
So up to this point, i guess it is safe to assume that the keyboards have no problem.. but then the mystery grows cause i exchanged every single piece of the phone with the broken kaiser's parts and the problem remains the same...
Any idea?? i am an engineer and problems like that that i cannot think of a reason that they are happening drive me nuts!!! please help me sleep at nights..
thanx in advance!
Hooray! Someone else who has the exact same problem as me! The phone I have had the LCD screen replaced and once it was reassembled, the keyboard is wacky. I tried reseating it and the same keys you mention are the only ones working: Q E U O F H L, CAP/Shift, Tab, Space, Enter and the 4 arrow keys. Nothing else works. I'd love to see if anyone has a solution to our problem. =)
Also, I'm not sure if it does it for you but the backlighting doesn't turn back on once it goes off - even when pressing the working keys. I found other posts on this forum with similar problems (with no replies) but their keyboards were not working at all. There has to be a simple solution that we're missing if it's this common.
Thats really weird that we have the same keys working... it really has to be something we are missing... but i have changed everything..
the only thing i didnt change is the lcd, so now that you are telling me that this happened only after you changed the lcd, it got me thinking that maybe the lcd is not as inocent as it may seem... cause,ok, my first thought was like wtf the lcd couldnt mess up with the keyboard.. but now that i think about it it is the only thing i havent tried to replace.. i have a broken one but still quite operative, so i will try with this one and get back at you.. if in the meanwhile anyone else knows something or has an idea, please help a little bit!
Like you, I cannot find any reason between the keyboard and the screen that would cause this. They're not connected in any way or share any cables. They connect to different parts of the main board... there's no logic that I can find.
I got mine second-hand and the original owner said she had the LCD replaced because of a couple dead pixels. The keyboard was working fine before that. Let me know what you find out. I was planning on ordering a replacement keyboard assembly from eBay but since you've tried a couple, that saves me from wasting that money.
Unfortunatelly the extra LCD i had was not operating at all, so the test i wanted to do failed, and i still dont know whats causing the problem... i am more or less convinced that i have to buy a new lcd but it is a bit of a risk to change the screen because some buttons on the keyboard dont work, dont you think?? anyway i am wondering y nobody else has nothing to say... this hasnt happened to anyone else??

thank you for your reply! but i don't understand how this would help for our problems..
i talked with htc yesterday and they told me it couldnt be the lcd, but during the lcd replacement probably the flexiboard was a little torned (needs a microscope to be verified..) i am giving it for a free test on monday so i guess i l have a more detailed answer soon!!

Hmm, that's an interesting find. It's odd that the same problem exists on different phones, unless it's a common section/piece of the board/assembly that gets damaged. Are you going to try and use the assembly from your other phone? Let me know what happens. I'd like to know what piece I need to buy to get mine working again. =)
