I connect it, it detects it, I select what I wanna sync, and it just sits there saying "Syncing" but nothing actually happens.
Not sure what to do....
How long have you waited for it to sync? Sometimes it can take quite a while.
An hour. My P3600 syncs in 3 mins.
Sync
I first installed the new Windows Mobile CD that came with the Diamond, and it connected with Vista right away, no sync issues, check your firewall software.

Yeah, that's not right. Try disabling your firewall, and if that doesn't work, contact some proper support people.
I dont hyave any firewall software installed. I already had the sync center, so there was no point installing anything off the CD.
Gonna try upgrading to SP1 now....

make sure you dont have the device in USB Storage Mode! Start > Settings > Connections > USB To PC and make sure ActiveSync (Sync with Outlook) is selected
also make sure you have the latest version of mobile device center on your pc
Just use the original USB cable that comes with phone
Updating Vista to SP1 did the job.

After a hard reset on the TyTn my computer is no longer detecting it when I connect the phone to USB cable. The computer makes a sound when I connect it, but Windows Mobile Device Centrer say that TyTn II is not connected, and it does not show up in My Computer eather.
I've tryed to delete the partnership and reconnect the phone, but nothing happens.
Can anyone help me please! Now I cant install any of my programs og transfer files between the computer and the pocket pc/phone.
Try this:
tap Start > Settings > Connections.
tap USB to computer.
Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality box

I uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer and then tryed the tip you described here. At first it looked ok, my computer detected the device and installed the drivers and reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer.
But my device is still not showing up in Windows Mobile Device Centrer or My Computer
Check your personal firewall settings and open the ports MS asks you to at the Windows Mobile home/support page...
Go into task manager & see if Activesync is running. I have the same problem with my tilt & if I kill activesync then reattach it takes a moment the first time, but then it works.
Make sure you are running the latest version of WMDC. I absolutely could not get WMDC to work with my HTC Wizard for months. After MS came out with an updated version of WMDC (around June, I think) it started working fine.
If you absolutely can't get it to work, consider using emoze for over the air syncing of cal, contacts, mail, etc. (or an on-line exchange account.) I had to do that for a few months until I got it to work. Emoze has the advantage of being free. Unfortunately, neither will allow file syncronization, tho.
There is no activesync running.
And everything was working just fine before my device went "mental" and I had to hard reset. So before the hard reset I could use WMDC on this computer, transfer files and run active sync. But now I cant.
I also got an online exchange account so I can sync calender and contacts. But I want to be albe to transfer files to my computer and install new software.
My WMDC version is: 6.1.6965
Some more info about the computer may help. For instance, I take it from your usage fo Windows Mobile Device Center that you are running Vista. In any case, since the problem is with the computer and not the Kaiser, I would see if the manufacturer would provide some support.
Yes, im running Vista and I buildt the PC my self.
But Im not sure its realy the PC that is the problem, because I made the changes (Hard Reset) to the device and thats what caused the problem.
Anyway, I was hoping for some way to debug/troubleshoot this problem.
I am having the same problem. I sync to any one of 8 computers at work and one at home. Work runs XP PRO and Home VISTA Ultimate x64 all worked fine untill this week. I have not made any changes since the last sync, the computers know it's hooked up due to activesync opening and trying to connect when I plug in via USB. But it never connects. I want to flash to Dutty's newest ROM but can't connect. I sync all contacts and e-mail wirelessly but need the computer to flash (I do not have a sd card yet) Any idead would be great! I have tried the ideas listed above but no joy. I have not hard reset the device as of yet ( I need some things off of it first)

I really need help with this!!! I'm pulling my hair out!
Did any of you that had this problem find a solution? I have the exact same issue except a hard reset will fix it for a while, and then the problem will reoccur a few months later. No software has been added during the time frame. Very annoying.
i've got just the same problem! plaese help us!

omg!
try activesync for XP. It came with the phone or you can download it from.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx
Hi, I thought I will give you my experience, my device have been active sync for more than a month, suddenly it refused to sync any more, I've checked every\thing on my notebook, redownloaded the Activesyn, repaired no way, I've just surfed the net and found the cure for that bur I still wonder how did it happen suddenly, most of you knows that there are two ways of sync's either RNDIS Syn Mode or USB Serial Sync Mode, I found this usefull utility by MS to solve this problem just download to your pda, reset your device and open the application and choose USB mode Viola !!!
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/AS-Cab.mode.doc.doc.
Happy Syncing !!!
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/AS-Cab.mode.doc.doc.
I also had to use this solution when I got my TILT last year.
No matter what I did my TILT would not successfully connect to any of my PC's with ActiveSync. After changing the mode to "USB Serial Sync Mode" everything worked fine.
However ... a friend recently gave me a BlackJackII to play with, and again I could not get the device to connect at all via USB + Activesync. I plugged the phone into his computer and waaa laaa! Activesync worked perfectly.
Not sure why I have so much trouble connecting to devices via RNDIS. I've gone through all the troubleshooting ... firewall, antivirus, blah blah blah...
No luck. Is a cab with similar functionality for WM Standard? or if it just changes something in the Registry ... what is the Key?

Actually this can be used for all WM but you have to use the latest ActiveSyn from MS (V 4.5), this is the utility which can overcome this no need of a cab or so.
Actually all my machines do have ActiveSync 4.5 build 5096,
and of course I tried to install the cab on the BlackJackII before I even posted ... but I get the message
"Installation of ActiveSyncMode.sa.cab was unsuccessfull. The installation file is not intended for this device."

So it doesn't work for WM Standard ... at least on a BlackJackII

Anyone who uses "vista firewall" in the forum search soon will.
Hello I've read around on this problem, and I cant find a fix for it. Orange UK HTC Diamond, I don't have the driver CD or anything but it seems it should be stored on the device itself.
I plugged it into my laptop (Vista x32 Home Premium), and first time it comes up with "Uknown device installed. Searching preconfigured drivers." It closes and nothing happens.
I have WMDC 6.1 installed, and have unchecked advanced network functionality.
If I install XP on a VMware virtual machine, will I be able to activesync to that ? (eventually I want to install HardSPL etc.)
Anyway, and hints/tips would be amazing.
vista and diamond
I just got my Diamond this weekend, I was upgrading from an HTC P4000. I was out of town (my home pc is XP) so I decided to sync my contacts over his vista machine (btw can this be done easily pda to pda? bluetooth?) The P4000 had trouble syncing with vista, took a few tries. After outlook at all my stuff from my old phone, I put my Diamond in and... nothing. Didn't see it, but it was charging. I fought Vista for about an hour to get it working, I had to download a windows mobile center patch off of microsoft, and restart the computer+phone.
When I got home to my XP machine, I plugged in and activesync took care of everything.
All the advice I can give you is try uninstalling your phone drivers (in device manager) and try different usb ports, and restart.
heres a link to the MS troubleshooting page I tried:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
Hmm I'm starting to think it might be the standard USB connection that I'm using, do I need to use the standard HTC cable?
I've just tried phone on XP, and its bringing up the same error with Activesync 4.5
It is well-known that in vista you have to download, and install, Windows Mobile Device Center to sync any WM device, even PPCs.
So what's the deal?
Hey i'm also having this problem, spent ages trying to get it to work and tried
uninstalling and reinstalling everything but just get a message on the phone saying
install ActiveSync 4.5 on PC even though im using Vista.
Any ideas??

You can't use ActiveSync on VISTA!!! Can't you read the MANUAL or make a search?! Install Windows Mobile Device Center from MSFT site.
For God's sake, use the included CD, it has ALL you need to start synching.
I have x64 Home Premium, and it worked out of the box.
I'm happy for you but the first thing I did was install WMDC6.1, as stated in my first post, and as I said it isn't syncing with activesync on XP either
Hi, I have install windows 7 rc , and i cant have my contacts in diamond to sync with outlook. It seems active sync is not compatible with win7 . Is there a solution ? Thanks ,
in win 7 is no active sync... you have to use mobile device center
hi
this works for me on windows 7 you can download it from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx
When you connect your diamond to win7, it will automatically download drivers and mobile device center . To get Outlook is your own responsibility. You probably have a 30 day trial version on one of the disks that followed your phone, but it will still sync after those 30 days.
EDIT: I have no clue wether the trial version works in win7 or not.

Ι downloaded the above. I didnt see nothning to change. I have installed Windows Mobile Device Center and it looks to work ok. I see diamond from the pc as a hard disc, and i can use it. I also have internet to diamond throw the pc. The phone is recognized by the pc as Touch Diamond P3700, and i have the icon of sync sender in taskbar. What I dont have? The one i am interested more.. My contacts to outlook to pc.. I have installed office 2003 to the pc , and i have outlook 2003. There , contacts are empty.
I dint see to Windows Mobile Device Center to have any option to transfer contacts from phone to outlook.. Any help ?
edit... Ok I just solve it. I went mobile device settings-change content sync settings. In contact there a press sync settings ,and there it writes synconize from Pc1 Pc2. Only one was "ticked" I tick and the other , and contacts went to my pc... Very complicated i think..
Hi, I'm on Windows 7 64 bit build 7100. Trying to get my phone to sync, have installed WMDC 6.1 64 bit version, plug my Diamond in and Windows Update fails on trying to install the driver, just get PocketPC USB Sync in Device Manager with a status of "This device cannot start (Code 10)."
Any ideas where I am going wrong on this? Had no issues on Vista 64bit getting it to work, have repeated all the same steps so am scratching my head somewhat.
Edit: Solved it, turns out it was my USB extension lead, tried plugging directly into the computer and it worked perfectly lol

I think I have researched all the treads on this pretty well now & I've tried all the above including rolling back to before I 1st allowed the WDM to install to no avail. I still can't get my Diamond talking to W7 WDM still talks to my old Vista Ult machine though.
Everything looks good the updater downloads drivers then the WDM then the installs happen the device gets found and it sort of knows its a HTC device plugged into a USB port but WDM and Sync Center both don't believe its there.
I've tried resetting the Diamond complete reboots of the computer, I've changed all settings in the PC to USB menu on the Diamond (another thread) and this only changes the Device from Generic Serial to Generic NDIS but still WDM won't connect.
So has anyone got any further suggestions I can't believe its this hard every one else has no probs what might I be doing wrong (I think the fact the device is a Generic Serial not a Diamond might be a hint but I can't prove it)

Stephen Lane,
I have exactly the same problem. Did you found a solution or still facing this problem?
You can use Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. It's free to download by MS.

Dennis
Thanx alot people! This thread saved my day!
WMDC does not recognize my G1. He detect that there is a unidentified device and searching the driver to web but after a minute it was NOT successfully installed. How come? LOL.
All,
recently I encountered a wired problem on my X1
first, it can't charge itself - either with PC or wall socket, when the device is turned on. It can only be charged when it is completely switched off.
second, it can't sync with PC. not detected by any computer.
I assumed it is the problem with the battery or the USB.
Tried to replace the battery but doesn't help.
Does anyone have the same situation before?
Should send back to SE for a service?
Many thanks!
Tigeron
Guys I renew the topic...
What are the current "hints" to do a successful Sync?
(X1 to Vista Laptop).
I get a ****ing Sync Error all the time.
So who does Sync here??!!
As for the first post, did you try swapping with another USB data cable to see if the cable is the culprit?
For the second post, did you try uninstalling and reinstalling (make sure that you do a "right-click" on the Windows Mobile Device Center software and choose "Run as Administrator"...had a similar problem with Windows 7...
AFAIK there are no solutions for XP and a couple for Vista. The first is the one with running as admin and the second I can't remember lol, but it gets posted every time in such threads. I don't think there is anything new...
I had such a thread some months ago and there were some solutions for Vista there. Check it out.
Great thanks for replies.
It's funny 'cos when I synced my P1 with Outlook,
and than synced Outlook with X1 all went fine.
Transferred all.
But I will try this Administrator boot of MobileCenter...
(when syncing Contacts, Tasks and Notes, only Tasks get connected....removing most of it from X1!
Happily I have amazing PPCPim Backup....)
Anyway I didn't use SE cable but a different one too.....
Well....
Why there's NO option to run WMDevice Center as Admin??
Guys, nobody here makes Sync?
Right now it's a ****ing piece of ****.
I can run Sync Center as admin but it doesn't change a thing, as well as running original SE cable. Fast file transfer works OK.
The PC starts Sync but finishes soon with error.
Of course no word WHAT fckn error it is!
While syncing it shows over 2600 contacts, while I have only 1333 on the device.
Really nobody has a damn clue?
I removed all my Outlook contacts and want to SYNC!
Is Microsoft such a loser?!

Yes but it is a SEUS problem, so a different thing.
Unchecking USB means Vista doesn't see the device.
It's a motherfu....ng crap.

Probably this horrible operation is on my way....
My x1a would ONLY charge with USB to the PC or when completely off - similar to you - couldn't wall charge or car charge with phone on.
I finally had it serviced under warrenty and it came back fixed in one week.
Have you tried creating a virtual machine running XP? I set up that once when I had the misfortune to have a laptop with Vista, it works fine & connects OK via ActiveSync

Aha, this way.
Ok, I'm not goin' to discuss this mater and I don't leave Vista - it's currently a very good OS.
Anyway getting rid of OS to improve Sync with a mobile device is plain crazy.
(That would mean nobody makes this Sync on the whole Universe what is not true and even I did before...)
