salaam,
I am muslim and i live here in the states.
Hey guys, this is not the correct forum (XDA) for religious/spiritual point of views and/or preference. Im going to move this to the off topic portion since its not directly related to cell phones, etc.
My father was a service droid.
@mariner_heart:
I don't believe DrForIslam was trying to missionary his religion on to anyone else, so it's not religious per se. It's more, "if you're French, come say Bonjour", which is probably ok.
However, can all humans (and more evolved life forms, carbon based or otherwise), please be cautious not to "attract" unwanted responses - this forum is not partisan regarding religion, other than when it comes to the true question, Windows Mobile or iPhone. So please keep off-topic topics in the off-topic areas, and be cautious about going against the spirit of the board.
Mods and Admins reserve the right to intervene and delete if we think it is for the good of the board. No specific offence intended to anyone's religions or questionable parentage.
V
Hey buddy,
Salaams to all,
I am from India, studying management.
(Why do you{mariner_heart} think that we are shouting religion here!!!)
tjkhattak61:
I'll inform the mods to discuss.
Personally, I don't see that this thread is much less worthy then other Offtopic posts - "Go Boston Celtics!!!", "Are you playing Halo 3 ?? comeon and let us play together" and "Post a Joke Folks".
So long as people have a rational reaction to a rational post (which I paraphrase as "Come along and say hi if you are similar to me"), forum members should be able to show a mature attitude and not turn this into a flame war.
Anyone looking for a fight should walk away and troll the "My Girlfriends' Blackberry Curve" thread.
V
Salam All,
My name is Farhan Ali, born in Saudi Arabia and currently living in Toronto.
As far as my phone goes, well I am using the tytn2 and desperately waiting the HTC Touch Pro to come out. ;-)
Now as for the religion, why are discussions on religion (any religion and just Islam) a big NO NO??? I think we’re all adults here (well most of us);-) and we need to think out side the box. This discussion is no different then any other off topic post on here.
Now with that said Ladies and Gentlemen lets keep this clean and lets get to know each other.
Cheers
Farhan

Salam,

Nice to see some brothers here.
Salam, Muslim from the UK here..
I think its quite alright to have a thread like this. I mean we're just saying hello to fellow brothers, AND the topic is in an offtopic section of the forum.
For those on this forum that are even offended by the word Muslim should just plain sod off.
original topic of this thread was to allow other Muslims to come and greet each other. This forum is NOT THE PLACE for discussing religious differences. Please don't hijack or take the thread off topic or else i'm pretty sure a mod will close it. So don't raise your fingers on other people's belief's; stick to the main topic. If you can't than don't reply, its that simple.
p.s. looks like lukybandit beat me to it but nonetheless same point.
I am a Muslim but i don't think Xda is the spot to tell the christians that they are wrong or for the christians to tell muslims that we are wrong; there are other places on the net where these things can be and should be discussed.
With that said please return to topic of thread and stop going off topic.

After being on these boards for a month, I realize that there is a lot of good information here. However, it isn't always in the easiest places to find quickly and it isn't that intuitive either. I keep seeing a bunch of newbie threads started here and I admit that I started one as well. I'm creating this post to put the first round of information out there and hopefully this will be valuable enough to get stickied.
G.W.E.N.I. - XDA's version of the FAQ. This is really valuable once you start sorting through it.
FAQ - Another source of information in a FAQ type of format.
TyTN II/AT&T Tilt on HTCwiki.com - This is a good source of basic information about the features of the Kaiser and the Tilt.
ROM flashing - This is the question that most newbies ask first so I thought I would post a link directly to the source of the info.
Search options - Options for searching XDA for information that you are looking for.
Recommended software - I'm going to start a thread soon about some recommended software to start with similar to this post but I want to gather more information before I post it.
Hopefully this will be useful to the community and it will get stickied.

The GWENI is a great place for info, but it isn't intuitive for newbies to look there first. Also, that is in the ROM development forum and not the Kaiser general forum. I know that when I was looking here first, I went straight to the Kaiser general forum first and was scared to venture into the ROM forum.
GWENI is more of a YOU CAN DO IT. Post.. Nothing wrong with it being one of the things a person needs to read first. I mean first in 1 gagillion threads. ...
Tater, that link is in my Sig.. That link Owns all other links.

I agree that an additional thread like this is really not needed (although we appreciate the thought of it). GWENI has all the information.
However I do agree that GWENI needs to be linked from the general forum as it is where most noobs will go first.
And to the OP....if you want to contribute with a comprehensive thread, stick to your idea of creating a thread that has a list of all software available for the kaiser: categorized, with descriptions, and links to other relevant info (software download, website, other posts with troubleshooting issue). I could see the usefulness of a compendium like that and there have been some attempts but nothing very encyclopedic.
I would create it in the software forum however, we need to drive more traffic to that section anyway.
Well If I remember Gweni's post, it was a chronical of a young girl that against all odds and stereotypes, managed to learn and flash roms on her phone. Inspiration to all. Considering I read a lot of threads, I might be wrong. (plus this headache is slowing my brain down) I do agree with Tigra, the Gweni post needs to be here too.
The other day I was browsing the Athena forum. And at the Top of their general forum they have an "announcement" which is basically The Forum Rules and FAQ. I thinking we need one of them.

Personally, I found GWENI too light on character development, but the narrative is very good.
And get your feline's right... I'm much better looking then this:

The kind of noobs that post the "I just got a new Kaiser tell me what cool thing to do to it" type of posts will not be helped by anything other than A DO THESE COOL THINGS TO YOUR PHONE FIRST AND HERE IS STEP BY STEP sticky.
They are like children on Christmas morning. They will not read, they will not search. They have the patience of a 5 year old. They want it now. We were all noobs once, some of us hung out read and listened and then joined and some of our most prolific posters , if you go back and review started out as serial threaders.
I think the best we can do to calm down the brewing conflict between seniors and noobs is to contain them in their own section. Those who choose to help can regularly review the section and help. Others can avoid it altogether. Get ready noobs to flame those irritating seniors who invade your forum with snide newbie remarks

Heh...yes I agree with most of that.
There needs to be an area for the Noob to feel safe, be helped by other noobs, semi-noobs, and more experienced members who want to spend their time in there.
I would love for some trolling seniors to get spammed back at when flaming an noobz ignorant post.
"Hey smartie pants...go back to your ROM development forum...this is for N0000000Bz. Now back to my original question... How do I charge this thing?"

With a long weekend coming up in the US, I may have time to start something like that. I'll create a wiki though because I don't want to be the sole person responsible for maintaining it. I'm pretty good at taking a cluster**** of info and turning it into something useful, usable, and intuitive. I do it a lot at my job. I'll get this started and hopefully something worthy. And I will post it in the software forum.

We garner support for the idea and then maybe a moderator will see it, think it is a good idea and talk to the admin (or create it themselves). Or a senior member who has a good relationship with a site admin...
Unfortunately I'm just an idea man I have no pull around here...

I see this working for awhile, but eventually they won't get any help and they will start double posting in other forums.
Honestly what are you expecting? For them to post things for each other to read such as guides? IMO it will be a forum full of the exact same questions over and over. The people just don't read, they come in, post and wait for an answer.

Possibly, but I think it is worth a try.
And I think it will appease those that are outraged at all the noob posts. If you don't like noobs, don't go in their forum. There will be enough knowledgeable people to help. I know that personally I tend to look in the general forums for questions with 0 replies and try to help if I can.
Even to answer a noob question with:
"You might be looking for this tweak...and you can read more about them in this guide...here"
goes a long way to educating a user and teaching them how to use the site properly.
EDIT:
I also want to point out that this will benefit more than just noobz. I find that the ROM development forum get's cluttered with legitimate posts from knowledgable users because they don't want to post in general. Posts in general often get ignored by many members because of the cluttered noob posts. By moving those posts to a new section, maybe we can claim general back and move things that don't rightly belong in ROM Development.
ChumleyEX said:

The section will not be about eliminating them ,but containing them. Obviously the section will only be as successful as we all make it. It will be up to more knowledgable people to answer questions, direct them to threads and teach them how to search.
As I said, once you get them past the ripping open the box and now I have to something cool immediately stage. Some of the most obnoxious newbies have settled down to the most helpful in this community.
I know I wouldn't mind cruising through there often to answer simple questions if it meant I could avoid 7 pages everyday of senior/noob fights in the general discussion pages.

Hell yeah, I'm back. Just finished my exam a few hours ago, had dinner with a ferw friends, and first thing I do when I get home, XDA!
Alright, my first click on the thanks button will go the person who can summarize, in as few words as possible, in the funniest possible way, what happened in OT since I was gone.
You may now begin.
Well the random image thread started and it's cool, the three word story has a user with underwear on and something written on it. And someone broke up, and also some repeat threads which were thrown out. And all sort of android vs apple fights. Android won. Chuck Norris thread started with bang but died down early, daily laugh is still holding on with boring jokes.
Someone started a thread what will u do if u had million dollar, man I would do nothing if I had that money. Also someone is finding best potato chips. Male Female thread started to find all girls on xda no luck.

Primarily this thread should continue where we left off due to our old thread by Mr Patchy Patch being closed imminently, this thread was for us who all got to know each other in the x10 forum and went to chat in an off topic fashion.
So here's the new one by me and now we may continue whilst keeping device specific forums clear and clutter free, so enjoy guys and gals all are welcome here no device specific ownership rules in place to post here, enjoy your new thread peeps!

What's the point of off-topic device threads here in the off-topic forum, since all of them are off-topic anyway?
Thanks for making the move. It looks like it's happening in every phone forum. I had reported the thread for moving but out of the 8 threads I reported today the old thread was the only 1 not acted upon. I was hoping that can at least leave a link in the X10 forum. I hope everyone finds their way here.

to make it easier for followers to find the new thread he named it similar to the original from the Xperia X10 forum.

Thanks for making the move. It looks like it's happening in every phone forum. I had reported the thread for moving but out of the 8 threads I reported today the old thread was the only 1 not acted upon. I was hoping that can at least leave a link in the X10 forum. I hope everyone finds their way here.

Actually, it's not better. That thread is an off-topic game, which is pretty much what off-topic is for. This is just an off-topic thread, in off-topic.

I see what your saying but i wanted to continue the one we had on the x10 forum, over there we all started out with or owned an x10 and we got to know each other and stuff and was fun. That thread is being closed in 18 hours so I figured this is the right place to continue it and as out layed in my OP all are xda members are welcome here.
So if there's an off topic section should there only be one thread? If I can't make off topic thread in off topic area then where to create one?
See my point? All are welcome but primary purpose is to carry on where the old one will end. If you don't wish to participate that's fine but I'm here to meet new people and make friends and have the thread in the proper place

There are 107 HTC devices here on XDA. Now include about 200 of the other devices, and we end up with over 300 device threads here in OT.

Hello everyone,
the moderating team assigned to your forum has decided to no longer allow any offtopic threads whether those were previously sanctioned by moderators or not.
We have come to this decision due to the fact that those threads offer absolutely nothing to the device specific forum or to development in general.
After all the name of the site is xda-developers.
If you feel the urge to engage in any offtopic discussion, the offtopic forum is always at your disposal.
As such, this thread will be closed in 24 hours from this post.
Please understand that this decision was made only to streamline the forums and to enhance the user experience.

Hello Everybody,
We would like to remind everyone in this forum that even though this is the off topic section and we like to have fun and joke around, that the forum rules still apply here. As of late there has been a lot of "trolling" of new members, or newcomers to OT, and especially new threads posted here in the off topic section. This is something that needs to stop. Here at XDA we are an open forum and any member is more than welcome to post where they choose to (assuming of course that they aren't spamming up a dev thread with questions etc etc). As with any forum if you see a thread that needs to be closed use the report button. Also, as with any other forum unless you have something to contribute to the topic of the thread in a friendly way please do not post in that thread. As cliche as this sounds it remains true. "If you have nothing nice to say it is wise to say nothing at all."
What may seem as a harmless joke to you may come off as rude or offensive to a member that doesn't know you or understand the fact that you mean what you say as joke and nothing more. If you want to "troll" stick to joking around with your friends that way no one mis-interprets your posts as an attack on them personally. Members of XDA deserve to have peace of mind when posting in OT and at the moment they do not have that luxury. Violators of this rule will be considered spamming and your posts will be deleted without any prior notice. Repeat offenders will be dealt with according to XDA rules.
To give you some recent examples of why were are saying this please look at the threads linked below
[Q] Chair Type
The Longest Sentence
How Do You Shave Your Legs
iOS7 Discussion
Girls on Xda
The last one was by far the worst!
I know this seems like we may be picking on you but please understand this is not the case. This is the type of behavior we expect from each and every member on XDA no matter the forum. To all members who do choose to violate this rule, if we have to, the moderation team will hand down official warnings and infractions or even bans if necessary. Remember this is the last thing we want to do. We only want anyone and everyone that wants to join in on the fun of the Off Topic section to get their chance to do so without feeling like they are not welcomed in the section. Here at XDA we are all one big family so lets act like it.
So lets sum this up for everyone. These are not suggestions but these are the rules here on XDA!!!
No more "IBTL" posts.... instead please use the report button. That is what it is for
No more "GTFO NOOB" posts... if you ignore them they will leave you in peace.
This is a public forum and therefore all threads are public too. You may not decide who can post in a given thread, if you want a private members club start a social group.
No more spamming/trolling new threads! Only post if you have something to contribute to the topic. Anyone who wants a chance at having a thread in OT deserves a chance to have one of their own and its not up to you all to decide what stays and what goes :highfive:

Ahh Alright... BTW why isn't this thread locked ?
EDIT While you guys are here, could you basically define Off Topic? I mean, we have something completely off topic and that's in no way related to XDA and there is some "off topic" that somewhat related, like tech stuff. Currently there is a bit of confusion over this that brings a lot "spam" over here.

Because there are undoubtedly going to be some questions about this and a little discussion (serious discussion mind you) goes a long way.
This is all really silly.
I actually saw the iOS7 thread from your link and wow, I would've loved to just discuss the operating system without anyone saying "Apple sucks Android 5ever hahahaha if you think iOS is worth talking about you're wrong omg!"
Because while I like to be silly (and poke fun at apple) at the appropriate times, I also like to have deep and meaningful conversations about electronics and whatnot without having a fanboy come up and start a pointless argument.
and some people (no one in specific) need to cut their... stuff they're doing with the "Inb4 lock" and whatnot. It doesn't add to the conversation, it doesn't help the OP if the OP is asking a question, and it basically does nothing productive. If you think a thread should be locked/is spam, report it and move on.

Anything not related to the devices or development for them. This however is not the appropriate time for a "what is OT?" discussion or "My (insert device here) off topic thread relates to the device and should be moved back to that forum" discussion.
This is about making sure that the off topic forum is accessible to all without being needlessly trolled or made to feel in any way unwelcome.

Certainly excellent points. It's gotten a little out of hand lately. Admittedly the amount of new users who can't bloody read has also gotten out of hand. (Which makes me wonder, isn't it possible to simply disable the posting permissions for <10 posts users in OT (and General)? That way they can still read, just not post. Would save us all a lot of time, irritation and trouble, not to mention the mods a lot of work of both deleting the posts and keeping everyone else from trolling.)
The problem is that most people seem to be somewhat confused as to the difference between 'fun' and 'trolling'. And there's also a difference between clever/funny trolling (which even the mods do from time to time), and outright offensive trolling so obvious even my sociopathic brain finds it pathetic...
You can be clever without being a total arse. (Yes, I know, being nice isn't my speciality either.) Nobody said we can't have fun. But bullying the new kids is exactly the behavior we all hated to have directed towards us in school.
But the Girls on XDA thread wasn't that bad before it was moved to off topic. After the move there were more deleted posts than remaining posts xD

With regards to the 10 post rule, I'd like to make this clear as it seems that it really isn't. There is no rule stating that you can't get your first 10 posts in the Off-topic forum. There's obviously a rule about spamming, and that applies here as well. So, someone posting "Hi" 10 times in the "Say Hi" thread is spamming, but someone posting in there to say hello and then engaging in conversation in other threads is not. I really don't know why there's such a beef about new people posting in OT, other than people misunderstanding the request made a while back to not spam.
</rant>
Now that's out in public I shall rest
And with regards to the girls' thread, it's that exact type of thread that we're trying to help here, hence it being mentioned in the first post. Sometimes trolling is funny, yeah, but sometimes it's just disrespectful, and that's what I personally dislike seeing.
**** just got real, Offtopic just got more serious. This is like moving from the Attitude era to the PG13 era :silly:
Just want to throw my tuppence in this here hat.
I agree with most of what has been said in the op and other comments. @ShadowLea comment about people not reading is true enough, as moderators how many times have you locked a thread someone has opened to post a video, or a picture etc? Only for them to open yet another thread to say 'WTF'? Ok so a lot of us plow in and spam the thread, this is done because most of the time an existing thread that has been going for a long time is only a couple of lines away. It's our way of reminding people that just because this is ot doesn't mean the search button was left at the door.
People with less than ten posts do get a raw deal in ot i admit, since I've been registered with xda the the ten posts issue has always been present as an understanding that users try to make 10 useful posts. People that make their all of their first ten posts inside of ot cannot be deemed to have made 10 useful posts. Ten posts isn't hard, even if it's in the form of a question. The answers to a simple question can be useful for someone with the same issue, using search.
A lot of the more respected and older OT regulars come here to chat with like minded people away from the constant barrage of pm's and questions from new users in their device threads, i actually have a lot of respect for quite a few people in here for maintaining as much calm as they do. Recently I've noticed that there has been a lot of posts that even by my "low" standards has gone way over what is acceptable, this really does have to stop. Users here are getting younger and younger, we tend to forget this because all we see is the avatar and words on a screen.
Imma gonna stop there as even i feel that im waffling about this again ( :thumbup take what points you want from the above, it's just my opinions nothing more.

Some of my first 10 posts were probably in Off Topic, and they probably weren't all useful. But they never consisted of simply "Lol" or "I agree" or "Hi!" or "Hahaha". Or worse, as @jugg1es says, threads about 'see this picture' or 'look at this video'. Especially when the destined thread for it is on the bloody first page!.
Those are the issue. If someone makes a decent contribution, they're not doing anything wrong, and they don't get trolled. (much.).
It's not the best solution, and I doubt it's even good idea, but this is exactly why many forums have an age minimum. (I believe we have some seriously good developers that are under 15, though. They are the exceptions that prove the rule.)
It doesn't matter how many rules or threads about rules we have. Fact is that only about 2% of new users actually reads the rules, even if you wave it in their faces. Hell, even if you made it a "must scroll to the end to select yes" thing some EULA's have, they'd still just scroll and ignore it.
The only people who really know the rules are those of us who point them out to the people that break them.
I couldn't agree more with a lot of the points being raised here. Even though I haven't been a regular in this forum for a while now, the issue which this thread refers to was an issue then and probably ever since the Off-Topic forum was even created. As I haven't been around here recently, I can't really say whether this issue has gotten worse recently (although I guess it must've done to require a thread such as this to be needed) but, as we're all aware, most of the time it hasn't really been a bad thing and has simply been a bit of harmless trolling.
The point ShadowLea made above about people not reading the rules is, again, something we're all more than aware of and blindingly obvious that it's the main reason why any ideas such as this, however good they look "on paper", will only do so much. The only true solution, that I can think of, would be changes to the actual sign up process.
I haven't really got the ideas on such changes or even if they'd be made but I see it as the only way to stop such problems from manifesting like they have.

The mods here are awesome. They are pretty much good fellows and lady who read and make judgement well. This xda forum needs to find more mods with similar attitude. They warn for all the right reasons and not for constructive criticism. Sorry to say with mods like that you will run your forum in to the future. You will force other trolls like me to go elsewhere where we don't feel harassed by stupid emails from outstanding mods that protect the site from people like me . Tough luck sweetheart, you're wrong there. I happen to be the youngest moderator at 19. I believe I'm classed as an adult by both UK (where I live) and US law. Adults moderate this forum, not children.
If I only hazed some branes, I could "make judgement well." :crying:
@KennyG123 did a retard say spidey....yes this retard did...
Well well.... I find your lack of Moderator love disturbing....
Cause we love you! ❤
We're trying our best, why you gotta hurt our feelings? :crying:

The mods here are retarded. They are pretty much morons who can't read or make judgement well. This xda forum needs to find some better mods with some brains. They warn for no reason even for constructive criticism. Sorry to say with mods like that you will run your forum in to the ground. You will force others to go elsewhere where they don't feel harassed by stupid emails from retarded mods that don't know wtf they are talking about most the time. Half of them English isn't there first language. So wtf are they doing moderating an English forum then? I'll move to another forum myself where children don't moderate.

Are we going to run it "in to" the ground or "into" the ground? I'm confused now You have me re-evaluating all the choices I made in life. Perhaps I shouldn't have become a mod... Then again, if they are all retards and simple things like "in to" and "into" confuse me so, perhaps I'm where I should be after all

I dont know if you can read or not but i used the search this thread box and got 53 hits on this thread about camera bugs why not use the tools the forums have instead of clutter up a thread with useless posts because you are to Fing lazy to search. Every time a member doesn't use the search button his penis shrinks.

Oh yeah! I see lots of "constructive criticism" by hypocritically cluttering the thread further with a personal attack by both calling a member "fing lazy" and telling them that their penis is shrinking. Then you want to go and talk about immaturity? LOL Your profile states you're 32.. Could have fooled me with a response like that as I'm 32 myself
Sounds like you need to re-evaluate your life good sir.
How about people being able to speak in English? Apparently you can't read English:
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please consider who is reading what you write and don't use profanity, sexually explicit language, rudeness or swearing including the use of characters to replace letters in swear words. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street.
2.3 Flaming / Lack of respect: XDA is about sharing and this does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) or rudeness. Flaming or posting with a lack of respect is unacceptable. Treat new members in the manner in which you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instructions when you can, showing them respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and / or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive and therefore, none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
It looks to me that you like to attack others for violating the search rule yet you feel it's ok to violate the rest so long as you feel it's justified.
These were rules you agreed to when joining XDA. If you need a translator to help you understand the rules that are already provided to you in the English language, I will direct you to one here: Help! I can't read!
What XDA needs are members who follow the rules and treat everyone they speak to with respect. You're doing us a favor here so allow me to show you the door: kan i pleez haz ban nao?

Would you like some cheese with that whine?
The above is probably the closest thing to proper English you have posted.... Ever! How long have YOU been taking English as a second language?
And thanks for the compliment on calling this 54 year old a child!
Member gets scolded with mild warning
Throws tantrum
Who is a child?
Threatens to leave!

I ride a horse so he speaks the english for me.
You should get a horse also. Also, my horse is pretty good at harassing tools when they start whining about, oh, what is it you're whining about? Personally, my horse would like all whiners to go to some place other than here. That way he can eat more trolls.
Oh, did I mention I ride a horse???
Speaking of horseys... @pstevep

Seriously, though instead of making yet another one of these types of threads, please act like a civilized person and contact the moderator or moderators in question that you are supposedly having issues with. If you feel, that certain moderators are not doing their jobs to your satisfaction, contact the Moderator Committee.
or
If this website is too much for you to tolerate, do what "others" are doing and find another website.

@travis82 - while you did not go about this in such a way as to provide constructive criticism or to receive good conversation in return, you do in fact bring up interesting points. (See there? A nicely structured sentence! I WIN TEH INTERWEBZ!!!!!! GIEF ME COOKIES NAO!!!) The most interesting is the point you make about warning for no reason (which is interesting in and of itself since the warning box is supposed to be populated WITH a reason), even with regards to constructive criticism (I took the liberty of ENGLISHIZING (that's a thing) your statement so as to make more sense).
So to that end, I ask that you contact me via PM, or the Moderator Committee, to submit your complaints and we will certainly look into them. We welcome constructive feedback (SWIDT?) from our community on how we can do better.
