Address Book Recovery - Off-topic

Whats up guys my friend somehow lost his address book on his ATT tilt does anybody know of software or any method to recover them off the disk or whereever windows mobile keeps that data? all suggestions are appreciated

1st I don't know the answer,
but I'm curious, how can you lose it? surely either he did a hard reset or deleted it?
use dotfred's pim backup, and keep a backup on a memory card or pc. i think it's stickied in development or in the general forum somewhere, it will prevent things like this happening again

lol i am not sure how he did it he just told me he plugged it into the computer to sync and it kept having sync errors basically active sync wouldnt connect to his device and then all of the sudden none of his contacts were there cause I told him to just backup everything to his sim card instead of wasting time trying to get active sync to work and all of the contacts were gone

active sync issue w/ new rma

i just got a new phone do2 rma from that auto complete problem i was talkin about earlier.
I made sure i backed up everything to outlook & did the sprite backup. however now i am trying to sync the phone & im not able to sync on my laptop or my desktop for some reason. do i need to reinstall sync to remove my old phones settings from the PC's or something? or is it a problem on phone that'd prevent any successful sync's?

WTF? i just lost all my contacts/tasks/calendar

OK.... so ive had my phone attached to my Vista machine all day... nothing out of the ordinary there.... i unplug it to take some pics... then when i go to email the photo, it says there aren't any contacts... so i figured it was just being weird.... i reboot... AND EVERYTHING REALLY IS GONE!!! lol
what the F**K!!!
Has anyone experienced this!? can the PIM file become corrupt or anything? Is there anyway i can get it all back? :'(
(txts/emails haven't been lost)
Thanks
If it's been plugged in, presumably it's been syncing with your desktop Outlook or Exchange server? Contacts/Tasks/Calendar suggests an activesync issue rather than some kind of data loss on the device, especially if other things are still intact. It may be you need to resync and/or check for deleted items on the desktop.

That's the thing though, i setup the sync partnership to not sync anything (i just use the connection to use a remote desktop tool).
Plus, none of my personal data from my phone has synced with my PC ...
ARGH
ARGH is the right answer! I store all of that data on an exchange server and just re-sync when I flash a new ROM, clear storage, or just mess everything up from tinkering.
Happened to me once when I tried to charge my phone with a USB cable connected to a laptop that didn't have Outlook. I ended up with no contacts, no calendar entries and no tasks.
Soo annoying - i havent even changed anything on my phone/PC.. it's just randomly decided to erase it all... no mention of sync conflicts... nothing.
I dont know what to direct my anger and hatred at.. Vista or Windows Mobile.....
I'm thinking.... vista
happened to me before lost 150 contacts, only had 50 on SIM. Sucks I was freaking out when I didn't have anything in my contacts. Same thing I unchecked all boxes and just use it to connect to SOTI pocket controller.
When i got home and tried to sync with my home PC, it started the 'new partnership' wizard... so somehow it seems the whole damn sync relationship had been deleted.... niiiiiiiiiice!
Ohh well, luckily i had most of my stuff backed up... but it's still sh***y not knowing why this happened...
I had a look in the ActiveSync log - can't really make any sense of it though... there's nothing obviously wrong in there :S
Oh well!
I have the same experience, in fact suddenly all my SMS and outlook folder just disappear from the phone. The phone just decide to clear everything for me for no reason.
The partnership with ActiveSync or Mobile Center just disappear for no reason and I need to re-establish them every now and then. Not sure it is a HW issue or SW issue.

Lost Outlook Contacts New Active sync Connection

I am wondering if there is any way to salvage my contacts. I formatted my computer and resync it and it deleted everything. Every other time I connected it before it would ask before or it would merge them.
I doubt there is a way but I would like to know if so.
do you have a backup of your phone that you can reload?
lost Contacts
Hello,
I had the same problem on older devices running WMobil 5.0 and 6.0
becauce i have syncroniced with 2 computers i got all back. so it is nessesary to make a contact backup in outlook for that case. anyway its good to have
IN OUTLOOK FILE/IMPORT and EXPORT/EXPORT TO A FILE/Personal Folder File/ Contacts/CHOOSE Lokation and Filename/finish ok
if you make that periodicly, so you can get old contacts back you allready erased.
Greetings
Michael
lost Contacts
and allways create backups on a separate made partition and put importend files also on external drives
No I do not have any backups. I figured between the phone and the PC that there was no reason for another backup. I never thought that active sync made for mobile phones would think it's ok to erase someones entire phone book and replace it with nothing. I think that is a serious design flaw it should have at least had a warning before it did it. Anyways I figured all was lost as soon as it happened. I found an old phone and got some of the contacts back but I lost everything that I added in the last year unless I have a saved txt msg which I only keep a weeks worth usually. O well SPB Backup is installed now Lesson learned.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Syncing Problem to a New Computer

I have a Tilt. It syncs fine to my old laptop which just dies on Sunday.
I have a NEW laptop which has a slightly different name.
The Tilt is going to sync flawlessly to the new computer - it started and I stopped it because it was going to duplicate my 1350 contacts etc.
I would like the system to realize that the contacts are identical on each system and that no sync is needed.
I told it not to sync at this time - it then immediately started syncing and found 0/1350 contacts and was about to start duplication when I stopped it.
Has anyone done this before? I am suspicious that I am going to hae to MANUALLY delete one by one the contact in my phone so that when it syncs it will not duplicate - if this is really what I need to do - does anyone have a quick way to purge the contacts in a phone?
Thanks
Bill
If your old laptop is dead I can assume you won't ever use it again to sync, so:
On the phone, open ActiveSync, Menu->options, delete any partnerships there.
Connect to the PC, recreate partnership, and on first sync it should give you a popup asking what to do (sync, phone replaces PC, PC replaces phone). Choose PC replaces phone. All the info on the phone will be deleted and replaced by the PC's data.
This is what I've been doing numerous times when formatting my PC. I would sync before formatting, then save Outlook's PST file, format, restore my stuff including the .pst, then sync again using the above method. I understand you restored the PST on the new computer as well.
Of course what's on the phone but not on the PC (what has been done on the phone since your last sync with the dead laptop) will be lost.

My friend, Thank you.
This forum is a wonderful place. To be able to come here and ask a question before I toddle off to sleep and have it answered perfectly before I get to work again is magical.
Please have a great day!

Backing up/ extracting contacts via USB?

I tried searching for a similar thread but couldn't find any, so sorry if this is a duplicate, but is there a way to retrieve my contacts over USB? I somehow managed to destroy the screen on mine (while it was in my pocket no less) but the phone still works (i can call the last person i called prior to it breaking). Is there a program to get the numbers off the phone via USB/ a file to dig through in the phones internal memory where they are stored? Any advice you can offer would be incredibly helpful. I made a backup maybe 3 months ago but theres about 3 numbers in there that would be pretty hard to get again.
If you connect to USB with Active Sync on, you should have the contact sync to your Outlook. This is not happening?
something isnt working correctly with that (i never set it up prior to the phone breaking, not to mention im a bit worried about it deleting the contacts on my phone, it did that once before) and without a screen on the phone its hard to fix it. but i can get the windows explorer dialogue to come up, which is why i was wondering if there is a way to get the numbers that way?
