Touch Diamond Quad-Band AVAILABLE!!!??!! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

The Quad-Band Touch Diamond surfaced on the CompUSA website:
http://www.compusa.com/applications...-_-Main-_-COMEM066-_-Laptops&SRCCODE=COMEM066
Do you people thing is legit, or a missprint?
I just placed my order, we'll wait and see, and hope for the best.....

You should phone them and check. If they don't know get the complete model number of the phone. P3700 seems to be the normal european version. I expect the US one to have a letter at the end.

I called them to make sure and the rep reassured me that's is quad-band.
But thats not really assuring anything, because this reps just read off their screens.
So the only way is to wait and see....
P.S. The price is a bit steep ($779) I wish I would have some more patience and get it from mobilecityonline.com for $699....

Its tri-band for sure. The US version will be available around Sept.
Im sure its a miss-print. Can you prove me wrong??? I will be happy....

Yes indeed, this is the regular version, not the US version:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/18/htc-touch-diamond-surfaces-at-compusa-with-quad-band-connecti/
What a shame, we'll have to wait a bit longer....

They will not have FCC certification until mid August so how can they sell it as US version? This is most likely the European or HK version.

Is it me or does CompUSA site look so much like tigerdirect's site? I hate tigerdirect with a passion and I did not like crapusa either when they were in town so no love loss there.

Thats probably because Tiger bought what was left of CompUSA -- something like 10 stores in Florida and Texas as well as their online sales.
Essentially it IS TigerDirect.

its the same touch diamond, read the update 2 on engadget, HTC contacted them and its fake.

Indiaplaza.in has it listed here:

for Rs36,499 with Airtel lock (whatever that means). The specification looks like a copy paste from the htc website and has 3G specs. Not sure whether both will be available for different price ranges- they are claiming delivery in 15 days.Anyone here from Mumbai or Delhi- Can you check Heera Panna/Palika Bazar ? In Bangalore -dealers are telling 15 days -1 month.Airtel call center does not have a clue about what HTC diamond is.....

The elusive diamond
On the HTC India site, it says that "The HTC Touch™ (sic) will be available through Airtel in top 25 cities across the country at a maximum retail price of Rs. 27,500.00 (inclusive of all taxes) and all authorized HTC resellers.
http://www.htc.com/in/press.aspx?id=49180&lang=1033
I tried calling some of these authorized retailers in Mumbai and none of them had a clue when it was going to be released nor could they even confirm the 27,500 price. Didn't bother calling up Airtel customer care as I'm sure they would be even more clueless.
A salesman at Alfa, probably Mumbai's most popular mobile phone retailer, expected the handset to retail at 40k. Indiaplaza.in is also listing it at a list price of Rs. 40995. Although I wonder if they really have it in stock.
So has anyone in India got hold of the diamond and/or is able to confirm the 27,50 price?? Please let us know!

HTC Diamond Delays

Hi,
I placed a pre order for the Diamond about 3 weeks ago from HTC direct. They where supposed to be receiving stock tomorrow (6th June).
Sadly i received this email from them this afternoon. At least they might be more reliable!!
"We have just been informed by the only official distributor of HTC products in the UK that the HTC Touch Diamond is now expected to come in on 17th June. The reason for the delay is a last minute software fix that needed to be applied. We appreciate that you have already been waiting a long time for this device, but it is better that known issues are dealt with at source rather then with a later ROM update or patch.
Please be aware that there are some grey-imports available in the UK. These are sourced from the Asian Market and thus come with warranty issues. HTC will not entertain warranty related repairs in the EU. Also, they only have a one year warranty. Also, they shipped without the software fix.
Be assured that your pre-order will be dealt with on the day the stock arrives."
I wonder if they're making sure every evice has the un-flashable spl?

ROM and RAM and grey import!!

Hi, I recieved my diamond from expansys two days ago.
Everything is ok so far, except for the ROM and RAM which are far away from 256 and 193....is it because the device is a grey import (as people from other forums are saying!!) or what??
Anyway, if the device is legal and eveything is ok, why it is not allowing serial number registration with HTC website??
And finally, I really respect expansys and do think that they are decent people, but what should I do if the new versions have bigger RAM and ROM, shall I ask for return or any compensation (according to the UK rules)??
As i said in my other post, its a grey unit ie its not a uk model but an asian unit. Which means that HTC UK wont support it, if you have any problems you will need to send it to Expansys who will then sort it out for you...but you will not get any technical support from HTC. Also you wont get any support unless you rely on Expansys to supply any rom updates etc. You will need to register your serial number on HTCs asian website, then it will accept it.
As for Expansys being decent people??...i dont think so, the fact that they have and are still duping people into thinking that the Diamonds they are selling are UK spec, when they arent really speaks volumes about their practices. They have lost my business thats for sure, i refuse to deal with a company that cannot be honest and upfront...thats been proven by their constant deleting of posts in their forums.
Now if i was you??, i would return it, get my money back..wait a week for the 'real' uk stock to come in...hopefully next week they will be here and not only that you will save yourself some money as it will be cheaper than what Expansys are selling them at...in fact totalpda.co.uk are selling them at £410. Of course its up to you but if i was you, id be sending it back for a full refund.
The ROM/RAM is used by the device and not shown... What are the figures you have, as this may be the cause?
Currently, there are no UK release models available, and there should not be for at least a week...

Lets clear this one up for once and for all on the warranty front.
If you are say in the UK and buy a grey import then you are NOT supported or warranted by HTC UK. You can get support from the area in which the device was obtained from, in these cases Asia. So if the unit breaks you must return it to HTC in Hong Kong either directly yourself or via Expansys which will handle it for you.
You also cannot register a unit from Hong Kong on the HTC UK site and therefore for updates you must register units on the HTC regional site from which the unit was obtained, in these cases the Asian site.
Furthermore the level of warranty differs from region to region so in the EU many devices are under warranty for 24 months which is not the case in others and if a unit is sourced from outside the EU then it will only have the warranty period for that region which in most cases will be about 12 months.
The beef that most people have with this is that Expansys are not being completely transparent about this so people are buying them and then not knowing the full position.
Well and more to the point really . Customers are not getting a choice . They think they are getting a UK branded device as advertised when in fact thay are not. This is against the law in the UK as selling Grey Goods is classed as counterfit.
The warranty is your choice but i would not risk the word of a company that is clearly trying to pull the wool over it's customers eyes just to be first to market. You may as well buy a unit off Ebay which is far cheaper and you will still have to use country of origan for its warranty repairs.
Just my 2 pence worth
Ok guys. I bought my Diamond from Expansys as I have my Tytn II a few months back.
I did try to register its serial number through HTC and I got the message that it was not an HTC phone.
I then registered under a different email giving Honk Kong as a country of residence and when I tried to register my phone stil got the same message.
Any Idea???
Thanks

Did you try going through the HTC Asian/HK site?
legal
Gray is not illegal in the UK, Black is illegal you are buying a genuine product from the manufacture so its not Black or (i hope) stolen
What is illegal is false advertising but after looking at the site, there is nothing in there that is illegal, it in no way suggests anything about the extent of the warrenty other than contact them, it in no ways states that its anything other than a English UK phone, which it is otherwise it would be german or Japanise or something.
the fact of the matter is, its called GRAY for a reason, its not illegal but its not exactly very open either, common sence is needed here people, if someone is doing something thats to good to be true, it probably is, O2 have backed HTC for years now, if anyone was going to release genuine HTC UK phones then either O2 or HTC will do it first

True, but selling at those it where not grey market imports is illegal, and is also trademark infringement as the items are not to be sold in the UK...

If sold as an "Englis UK" device, that is what they should be. I believe these devices are in fact HK WWE devices, which makes it illegal.

Orange backed HTC devices far earlier than O2, and T-Mo have actually announced the device, so I suspect one of those would release the device before O2.

legal or not
it is potentially a copywrite infringment if HTC havent gave permision to sell it or indirectly sell it, that doesnt make it illegal until HTC says so, its quite possible that they allow first tire resells to pass on to europe, it is not however illegal just because itcame from The far east.
It is sold as a UK device, the device is English however, it may have been adapted to be english but its english, in the same way that a german book translated in to english is still english (all be it usually bad) they are not doing anything legally wrong so long as HTC approves to the sale ofits devices, and since they are getting paid for them one way or another its unlikely they will care much, and its perfectly ok for them to limit the warrenty on them as well, so long as its at least 12months, they will however insist that it is sent back through the original retailier it was brought from
i think some one posted in somware that register problem is coming coz HTC webpage not updated, or data not updated yet. he told he recive a mail from HTC.
anyway non of my business... i have no hand in HTC or Expansy or anything els.....

I believe since the devices where not sold with the intention of being sold in the UK, it probably is illegal, although as you say, HTC will be the ones to decide.

The ROM on these devices is the HK WWE ROM. It is a WWE ROM rather than a "UK English" ROM. And, all the german translations I've witnessed have been pretty good
I got mine from expansys and manged to join club HTC with the serial number no problems on the europe site.
Question is when a update comes out will it ask for a serial number and will it be valid then.
My bad just tried to register the devive and yep does not register. Guess ill have to wait for people to release the update on here really.
Register on the english version of the HK site. At least you can get any roms released for that region (and share them here too!).

Where to buy in USA?

I want to buy a Diamond or a Touch Cruise because the voice call issue of the Diamond.
I looked GSMARENA and I want to ask if someone can remomend their sponsors.
In deep, I need opinions about phonesource-usa / bargainoffers / cti-miami / cechowireless / cellsholesale. Was anyone bought his HTC or other here to recomend?
Many thanks in advance.
Where to buy?
I want to know also.... where can I buy a Diamond Touch in the USA?
Well Texasaggie1, you have 5 places that cells this phone and many others.
I bought mine off ebay. I stay in mississippi. Im using tmobile which uses 1900 gsm. I havent had any issues with calls. It picks up better than my tilt was in some places.
TD in USA
I got mine from California, but cant recall just after they came out. I did some whats called....googling... and found two places that will sell USA 850 gsm phones in July and August if you want to wait for a 850 TD. Personally i will buy a USA 850 TDA when they come out and will probably sell my triband. I guess I got one of the GREY so called phones. However it works like a charm with just the usual issues that everyone has, however I really like it. I have two places that will be selling the USA 850 phones so far.

WRONG!!!!! they are not illegal. When they talk about grey imports...it just means that the product was destined for another part of the world but somehow some retailers managed to get it for their region ie alot fo the grey units in the UK were for the Asian market. Only problem is that having a grey unit means you wont get any support from HTC uk...you would need to register it on the Asian site of HTC and also for any warranty repairs you would need to send it back to them in Asia. Although places like Expansys have said they would look after warranty repairs etc themselves.
Oh ok cool Haha. I thought they meant grey as in the colour of the actual diamond. 'Cause mine is imported and the area around the LCD and the hardware keys look slightly grey and I thought there was actual 'black' versions. I would love to have a complete black looking version. Is the O2 version completely black or does it have that grey kind of look as well around the LCD and the hardware buttons? I wonder if I'd be able to switch the housing later on.

Nexus 5 - Hong Kong

For anyone who cares the Nexus 5 is officially out in Hong Kong. Its being sold by LG, rather than Google. Price is around HK$3,800 - 3,900 depending on where you buy it. Big name retailers such as Broadway are selling it. Only the 16GB model is presently available.

no. LTE wont work in North Americia. But 3G will work of course.
Damn. I had a feeling LTE wouldn't but was holding out hope. Oh well, guess I'll have to play the patience game some more..
Hond Kong LTE use band 3, and the US version of Nexus does not support that.
But does anyone know on the UMTS 2100, is HSPA supported by the NEXUS 5?
wonder when nexus 5 32 gb will release in hong kong.. right now for that price its still a steal!

HK Google Play store would be a very welcome development.
I think I am probably going to wait it out for around a month or two and hopefully the N5 price is drop a bit or at least a 32GB model will make its way to HK, otherwise seems the Oz store has the best value at the moment.
Fortress
Dear All,
I was at Fortress MK (MK New Century Mall) and they are selling it for $3,880.00. The guy says ONLY 16GB and I asked about 32GB and he said no. I don't believe him since he had to check 5 minutes to give me a price on the N5. Late Nov. HK PlayStore have it? I highly doubt it. I'm waiting till close to Christmas to buy it as the price will go down and retailers will have discounts.
if u go to "smaller" shops in mongkok/wanchai etc. the price is now in the range of 3700+..
Make sure..

Yes, parallel import will be cheaper in price but watch for what you get. Remember, US version (D820) won't work in HK for LTE. We have (D821) which is international version to work for Asia. I would stay with Fortress, Broadway etc. to be safe.

As long as the smaller shop confirms its HK stock and you can get local warranty through LG I don't see an issue buying through them.
Remember the D821 is also being sold in Australia where the price is actually quite comparable to the North American prices. But you won't get local LG warranty if you get that.
Was at Broadway Shatin on Friday, asked if 32gb was available, sales said usually Hong Kong only get one version.
Agreed that it is expensive to buy from them, if really available through Play Store at end of November then Ill be one of the first to buy from there!
Was just in WCC.
Asked two shops for price, one said HK$4.2k the other said HK$3.9k!!!!! Local stock.
Wasn't going to buy and was in a bit of a hurry so didn't ask around too many places or try and negotiate for price.
