It's Quadband ! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Look at Phone ->Options->Band. There it says clearly that you have the choice to select a 850+1900 GSM band.

Yep, but it doesn't connect...
Well that's what people said when they found this ages ago.

Ah, but look what's up now at HTC Store, "Diamond Americas" due in August:
850/1800/1900 MHz
3G: 850/1900 MHz
So, not quadband, but bands that will work on AT&T in U.S.! Woohoo! Hopefully Touch Pro will follow suit.

If I have to wait until mid/late August, I think I'll just hold on a little longer and get the Experia. Quad band. Nuff said.

HTC TyTN II Product Sheet on HTCClub.net

On the website HTCClub.net they have the product sheet for the HTC TyTN II a.k.a. HTC Kaiser a.k.a. HTC P4550.
Source: HTCClub.net
So, something interesting that I am noticing here. Since I am in the US, I am concerned about whether or not this thing will work on 3G here.
I go to www.mobileplanet.com and look at the coming soon devices and find the TytnII listed:
http://www.mobileplanet.com/d.aspx?i=151727
Click on the description, then go to the bottom left column and you'll see:
"This phone has the 2100 UMTS UK version and not the 1900 UMTS US version network."
Now, I look at the spec sheet posted above and see that the HSDPA freq. that this phone will use are 850, 1900, and 2100. This is the same as the 7501 where the 2100 is for Europe and the 850/1900 is for the US.
Additionally, if you look on their product page details on mobileplanet, you see "UMTS (tri-band, 850/1900/2100 MHz)" listed under features. So, again looks like US compatibility.
Anyone who has been testing this unit in the US find that it has the selectable freq. and has it working on Cingular/ATT?

Did you save the sheet onto your hard drive? They removed the sheets from the site.
*EDIT* I've been asked by HTC to remove the product sheet until the press launch of the HTC TyTN II, as soon as the device has been launched the sheet will be placed back online*

This phone is being released by US AT&T.. so I would think it works with ATT's network.
Why would ATT release a phone that can only be used in the UK?
Yes, it does have 3g in the US. The phone will house the same hardware regardless of where it's released.

Diamond & ATT

I couldn't help myself. This phone seems perfect so i ordered a diamond that will arrive tommorow. Now my question is if anyone thinks the bands for US are present and need to be unlocked or if this will end up on ebay . Thanks!
There's several topics about it there.
You won't get any 3G in the US with it, and you'll only be able to use the 1900 band for voice/GPRS/EDGE.
Actually you are incorrect. 1900 Mhz is supported w/3G w/AT&T in certain areas. Unfortunately my Diamond is not even getting an EDGE connection. From what I am hearing the Diamond is only supporting 2100Mhz frequency w/3G according to HTC. Which to me makes no sense.. I am blogging my experience with it as it is the first production unit in the USA.
You just said i was incorrect and correct in the same paragraph lol
This is where all the confusion starts.. For GSM/GPRS/EDGE it does 900/1800/1900 MHz - only 1900 would work in the US. For UMTS (3G) it only does 900/2100 - neither of these frequencies are used in the US.
The protocols and modulation used are completly different for GSM/GPRS/EDGE vs UMTS. The dispersal of uplink and downlink frequencies is completly different. Just because it can do 1900 for GSM doesnt mean it should do 1900 UMTS.

You should get edge. Edge is an extention of GPRS but requires a different BTS (radio tower) setup. Its possible you don't have a strong enough signal, but it sounds like your confident you should have edge in that area.
The only thing i can suggest it to try in a different area - like the centre of town. Also, confirm your APN is setup corectly, the [G] may just be telling you GPRS is available, but not that you can attach.
I know with my elfin it takes a little stronger signal to initiate the Edge icon the first time (ie. after a hard reset). I can't get an edge signal inside my office but once I walk outside for a minute or two, bam I have it. Then when I go inside I still have it.

Diamond had UMTS(2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900),UMTS(800+2100),UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800) and UMTS(1700) depend what rom you had in your Diamond and where you bought your Diamond , At&T should be show 3G in US and T-mobile used 3G (1700 Mhz) in New York area
The platform in the phone can support all those bands, so you might be able to see them (like in the test rom) but the antennas are not there. So you won't actually be able to pick up a signal.

I guess all of us US early adopters must hope the hardware is there and can be enabled with a future flash.
T-mobile in the US uses 1900mhz for GSM/Edge and only has 3g in NYC, so I'm figuring that it's a cool stop-gap device until something is available for T-mobile 3G.
so anyone have the rom that had thoose bands....
confused
so im a little confused.... If I buy a diamond on ebay, it wont work in the US? or 3g just wont work? does the diamond accept a sim card?
On AT&T it will give you only GPRS! On Tmobile (NEW) it shows EDGE!! I dont understand this at all!

Voice and EDGE will work just fine as long as you are in a major area that uses 1900 band. You might have weak or no signal when you are in smaller rural areas since those usually extend into the 850 band.
You will not be able to use 3G since the Diamond only supports 900/2100, neither of which are used by AT&T
It looks like if you have ATT you are hosed for both voice and data, as most of ATT voice and data (Edge) is 850mhz. Most if not all of T-mobile voice-data-Edge is 1900mhz so you will have at least Edge. If you're looking for 3g data you're SOL until the US version of the diamond is released.

I don't think HTC cares about America too much any more because it's iPhone territory. As they haven't used their own branding until recently, I think HTC are looking to gain market control and loyalty, and that's easiest where the iPhone hasn't been a huge success.

Again, HTC seem to like doing exactly what Apple are not doing, so they may go for multiple carriers. As far as I'm aware the Touch Diamond, and its branded versions, are launching on every network in the UK. That's the complete opposite of Apple's 'one network per country' policy, and they consequently seem to have dropped it (for example, in Italy).
AGREED 100%!! I have been saying this on my podcast for quite a while.. It is a huge mistake. I am now saying since I just received my Diamond that I took one for the team.. I will post my review as the days go by...

Is that true on the U.S. Phone? Or is there an actual "Quad Band" G1 being sold?
I know this has probably been discussed a ton on this fourm, I just wanted to ask my own way! Thanks

Do you mean Dream? As in xda-developers > HTC Dream: G1 > G1 Q&A
I'm not quite sure what the question is here.
BUT yes the G1 is a Quad Band phone with the ability to run on those 4 different frequencies.
Most data devices IE: Windows mobile phones, Android phones, Blackberry's, etc. are Quad Band devices.
it IS quad band, however it doesnt do HSDPA/HSPA on all 4 freq.'s, dont bother getting excited, its only quad band for edge, lol.

So does this basically mean no HSDPA 7.2 Mbit goodness for G1 users in the US? I've been trying to find a definitive answer on this since I live in the Philly region that is currently covered by "Very fast mobile web"

No, it means that it will only do 3G on the service provider for which it has compatible HSPA frequencies.

AT&T does own some band 4 license and can in principle do LTE in band 4. Just that in most places they don't use band 4 for LTE, but all their LTE phones support it. It could be that they are using band 4 in some cities, but not in any major/big city as far as I know.

I don't think LTE:13 means band 13. I've seen, for example, HSDPA:9 and HSPAP:15 on my Galaxy Nexus, so I think it's some other scale.
The only North American LTE band that the N4 has the radio hardware for is Band IV, so it must be an AT&T Band IV deployment.
Not exactly impressive speeds or latency for being on LTE... I get as fast or faster on Tmobile HSPA+. Could it possibly be saying LTE but not really giving you the speed?
What were your speeds before switching the LTE on?

Looks like the T-Mobile version does not have LTE, so that will not work.
UTMS [3G] HSPA(+) [3.5G] should work as the T-mobile version has the same bands as the AT&T version.

The AT&T model seems to lack the 1700 band T-Mobile uses, although all the rest of the frequency are present, and will most likely to work with T-Mobile's upcoming LTE network. If in your area, T-Mobile uses the 1700Mhz frequency, you will have a problem.

Barry,
You probably bought your phone by now. For whatever it's worth, I just checked with HTC about Developer Edition of the "One" and although it lists all the frequencies in the spec sheet, they said it will only get 2G speeds on the T-Mobile network. Yes, that is 2G. Not 3G, not UMTS either, and of course no LTE. You might be better off with the AT&T version then. On the other hand, I just signed up with AT&T 4 months ago and have nothing but disconnects, dropped calls, garbled speech or no data whatsoever in my area. I have an HTC One X+. To me, it looks like they totally did an awesome job in marketing, when I was getting excellent reception and none of the above problems with T-Mobile. Again, it could be the area or AT&T's network.
I hope that helps.
Take care,
MW
