I reset my Tilt according to this link to get rid of AT$T bloatware according to this http://www.pocketables.net/2008/01/10-tips-on-fixi.html
The phone reacted much faster afterwords but PIE is having problems: links aren't high lighted, pictures aren't shown and when I try to download programs I get the "no permissions" error
Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? Don't suggest Opera 9.5, as I tried to install this from a download on this forum and the installation froze after 20K
never ran into this .. don't know why ur installation of opera got stuck.. i have a copy of the opera mobile build by gsleon3 in my 4shared acct: link in sig. try that one and u should get a install. also take a look at opera mini. i prefer it over pie and opera 9.5.
Awsome you said to do what he asked you not to.
Did you verify your connection settings for media net or whatever it is that you use?

thanks for the productive reply. my reason for suggesting was simply because he might have downloaded a bad cab or something of that sort. the build i recommended is a port from vga over to kaiser by gsleon3 and so far people who have used it are running it w/o problem.
and i don't think his isp settings are bad as he is only having this problem in pie; not in all data apps, or atleast he didn't mention he does.

ACTUALLLY dear friend, he does mention a problem with data, he can't download opera. Also, how is you trying to help with opera helpful to this post. At least I'm starting at ground one by having him check the settings. I would say make sure it's plugged in first but of course this is a wireless device.
oldfossil did you installed the advanced config stuff which allows you to save temp internet files to the SD card? If so make sure it's saving to the phone.

Ouch, I got stuck in a flame war!
Thanks for the replies.
I am pretty much clueless about newer systems (ergo the "oldfossil"). My brain is stuck in the days of pre GUI's when I did my programming and system building so it takes me a little time to figure stuff out in newer systems.
thesire: I couldn't find Opera in your 4share. I want to use Opera mobile or PIE over opera mini because mini doesn't allow secure connections.
So, my MediaNet is set to connect to the network using MediaNet. Is this correct? Should it be AT&T ISP? I can connect to the internet, I just don't get full content.

don't worry about your medianet settings they are fine.
Here is the cab for opera (its under the cabs folder)
http://www.4shared.com/file/5001468...126__Uninstallable__WM5_Compatible__QVGA.html
i would suggest downloading it on your pc and copy to your storage card (if you have one) and run them cab from there.

obviously problem w/browser not data connection. instaed of trying to argue read what the op is posting and help him.
OK you two. Sir Chums, The Sire, lets act like the adults we are. The benefit of a forum setting like this is people will come up with different answers.
Maybe Chumley is thinking of something in the Data Settings that the OP forgot. Maybe Proxy. Who knows the Proxy Causes weird issues.
And for TheSire, yes he asked about PIE but if he gets Opera working he won't have to worry about the PIE issue.
Thanks for more feedback.
I actually got Opera 9.5 working and have installed mini also. IE still doesn't give full content (some links are active, others are not; pics not shown).
An issue with Opera 9.5: When I try to log into my gmail account I get a blank white screen. Any settings/fixes I should be aware of?

I don't have that problem. The only solution I can give is to "Go around it"
Which is Download the Gmail.jar and install that in your Midlet Manager, which I believe you have since you installed Opera Mini.

^ A photo of my front room...
---------------------------
But if I go on my browser using web&walk, and browse FACEBOOK (an example), the quality of the photo's are EXTREMLY poor (very fuzzy):
^ A photo of me on my facebook profile.
Why does this happen?
Compression, ie compresses the image to display it in the browser.
That or the facebook site does it itself, your on the mobile version there.
The (P)IE doesn't compress pictures and I think that facebook also isn't the problem.
T-Mobile has a speedmanager where you can choose between:
- maximum speed (with picture compression)
- optimised speed (without picture compression)
- speedmanager off
But I don't know the URL for T-Mobile UK. For Germany it is:
http://speedmanager.t-mobile.de/
So is there anyway I am able to get around this? Because it's quite annoying trying to view photos on FACEBOOK, and they are very fuzzy.
Infact I have even tried Google Images, and again the pictures are still fuzzy.
Possibly need to get this solved?
I've searched a long time for the UK version of the speedmanager, without success. I suggest you to call the T-Mobile support. I don't know if it's free in the UK. In Germany it's free and I can call it at the weekend and in the evenings too.
Please remember to tell us the result and the URL.
It's not T-mobile; as far as I'm aware this is facebook itself. (I get the same thing on O2 and I'm not aware of any compression software, I'm on a different ROM for starters and going through wifi) I've never found an option to make the pictures of higher quality either. No doubt their iPhone facebook app works perfectly
As an afterthought: USE OPERA MINI. It's free, MUCH faster downloading, MUCH faster page drawing, works with full facebook, better zoom and navigation features, better finger scrolling, much more configurable... I only really started browsing the web on my mobile after I ran into that software package. Google it on your PC or your phone if you want to download it directly.
Rang T-mobile, and they advised me that I needed to use the T-mobile Web Accelerator
I had to choose the following options:
Device Type: Web & Walk Device
Manufacturer: T-Mobile
Product: Web & Walk USB
So I downloaded the T-mobile Web Accelerator file [3rd from the bottom]. Then after unzipping the download, your left with this:
There is a .cab file, which I copied over to my Vario III, but got the following message:
I also ran the setup.exe file from my computer. But that only installed the Web Accelerator onto your computer, and not my Vario III.
So yet again im stuck!!!

WOW
On my Vario III I am unable to view the FULL FACEBOOK, which can me very annoying. Just installed this Opera Mini and the FACEBOOK loads as the FULL version. Very please about that! Pictures are somewhat clearer.
The bad quality is because of the "m.face....". It's a mobile site, for small screen devices.
Try going to the full facebook page, or using Opera Mobile/Mini to render the full web page.
Also, try the Webnwalk MSI file as that may install to the device.

Well, I guess you're stuck with either m.facebook.coms bad (but low bandwidth!) graphics, or using Opera Mini/Mobile to render the pages properly. But, since you have Web'n'Walk plus, the FUP is pretty good, so shouldn't really need to go for the lightest option...
Well I have installed the Opera Mini on my vario III & boy am I impressed. Facebook loads like a treat, and I am able to view the applications, as apposed to hardly viewing anything on the "m.facebook.com"
Also when I used to browse eBay on my phone with mobile internet explorer, and I was unable to read the item description. However with Opera Mini I can view the listing as you would on the PC.
Picture quality is better on the Opera Mini browser, but still a little fuzzy. But again I think I can live with that.
Thanks for introducing me to Opera Mini!!!

If you like Facebook on your mobile, then I recommend downloading Snapface from http://www.magnifoca.com/

I second that.... I am using Version 1.25 although there is an update to V1.30. I do not want to update since the version I have works flawlessly and I am used to it.
super easy, use file explorer or whatever software you use that does the same thing, go into the phones "windows" folder, go down to the program called internet sharing, copy it. Now go to you folder in the windows folder called "start menu" then "programs" now paste the program here or one of the subfolders. DO NOT PASTE SHORTCUT. now you should be able to go under start menu programs and start the program. You will probably notice that it says something like at&t isp, change that to media net, conect to your computer and press the tab that sais connect and you should be golden.

How were you able to remove the ATT tab?
The problem with Opera and MEdia Net is that you need to go to about:config and the Opera config page will open. Next go to proxy and you will see it is now blank. You need to enter the proxy information but I do not remeber what it is but I know there was a post here that spoke about it. I too am searching for the post and if I find it I will edit this message.

if you do opera:config there are some proxy items in http and https that point to www.cingular.com (or something like that). I deleted them already so I can't tell you exactly what they are but that is the answer.
Maybe someone else can look and post it.
In "\Application Data\Manilla\" there's a file called "InternetPortal-en-US.xml"
In an application like TotalCommander, edit the properties to make it NOT Read-only, NOT System File, and then transfer it to your PC. Edit the file in notepad, replacing "http://device.home/" with whatever url you'd like and then "Media NET" with whatever text you'd like it to say. Transfer it back, and put the attributes back to what they were. See my picture below of what I've changed it to.
On that note, you should remove the cingular proxy as described before, and also under Adaptive Zoom, make sure to set the Maximum zoom to 200, minimum overview zoom to 30 minimum zoom to 100 or 80 ish. (it looks much better on a VGA (not WVGA) device).

I tried that. When I deselect Read only and System in TotalCommander and then press okay, the changes are not saved. If I go right back to Properties to they are still selected!

are you using a Fuze? I have the same issue on a Fuze. Before, double-tapping would zoom it quite nicely, now it doesn't and there's a zoom slider.
More importantly, now all sites are redirecting me to mobile versions of the page. What gives? I may have to hard reset my device to get to the original Opera version supplied...

I have just released a new version of Cinemo. From now on Cinemo will be hosted here: http://www.danielgary.net/cinemo/
The new version is really just an interim release that enables image caching for the movie posters and allows automatic updates to Cinemo. A message box will pop up to notify you when the new version is being installed.

P.S. I know the site is ugly. I threw something up there just to host the file for now. I will get something pretty later.

Edit: Maybe for a future update you could query the "total $ gross" for each film on the list? Might be a cool addition.
Works well. One suggestion is to have a list of theaters that are within some range of your zip code. Many people go to neighboring zips to go to their preferred theaters.
I will be keeping an eye on this as it would be more convenient than loading up Fandango every time.

I was able to hit the internet and use other data connection apps fine. I did have it connected to the PC. Disconnected, no change. Cinemo wouldn't work, other apps would.
Did a soft reset, everything works fine. I guess there must have been something that didn't take or load completely until after the soft reset.

+1 for the gps, works like a charm! I use flixter on my ipod touch, and this works just as well for locating movies and since both are very similiar in UI, its really nice to have the familiarity from one device to the other.
Just letting everyone know I have movie synopsis working on my test build. Look for a new update to Cinemo in the next 24-48 hours. It SHOULD automatically update itself when you run it. I will post letting you know when it should be available.
thanks for this app i would love to be able to watch the trailer. maybe you could link it with the youtube app
awesome app, been following it since the first thread. the only thing missing for me would be saving favorite theaters other than that this is perfect. it's helped me out a couple times, thanks!
looks like this is going to be a great app - I am in Canada and i cant seem to enter a Canadian postcode as it caters for zip codes only! I also tried the GPS and it found no cinemas in my area and im downtown Toronto!
Potential feature add: would be great if you could add a feature to be able to enter dvd titles and get it to check the ratings on imdb and metacritic!
Hey thanks for the great app!
Is there a way to add more theaters to the list?
I have to change my area to get different theaters and i much rather just have all the theaters within the area be displayed.
Vancouver, BC, canada working decently!
I agree with some of the others. There needs to be an option for more movie theatres both when viewing the actual movie times and in the theatres tab. Also, itd be nice to check times for other days in advance. Like being able to view the times for Thursday when it is still Monday. Other than that I think it looks really good. Until theres more theatres I am stuck using Live search
every time i change the zipcode the app shuts down with an error. also, sometimes when i open the app it shuts down with an error. tried it on my sprint diamond and touch pro with same results. when it does open without errors it works great though. is there an explanation why there are errors so often? i'd say i've received an error about 40% of the time.
thanks for making this, it's a great idea and very useful. it's much easier and faster than having to open a mobile browser or some other app. keep up the development!
great idea love the concept. would you be able to make this for wqvga devices?
thanks in advance

I am not sure why I have started to get this. I have more then enough room on my SD card. I have used it in the past and liked the app. Would love to have it on my cell but I am not going to change roms.
So, basically can anyone confirm issues on install? does it have to do with the 3.7 .Net that is being used?
Thanks,
SoBBie
pretty cool app.
i think it would be nice if you could enter your user account information for fandango.com or movietickets.com. that way if you see the movie you want to go see, you can just tap a "buy now" button, and you are good to go. maybe it could pull the confirmation number as well or something.
Hi guys!
Could anyone please explain to me, why, although all "data-eating" features are disabled, my phone from time to time is constantly connecting to the internet? Push internet is disabled, automatic weather updates disabled, opera not working, mail receiving set to manual, etc, and it still tries to connect!!! What for??? Is there a way to prevent it without using heavy artillery like "nodata"? Generally, I'd like to understand why the bastard is doing it and feel secure that my phone is not secretly using a data connection in my pocket
Is it quick gps?
Could use some logging program to see what comms it is doing I spose?
I'm new to Win Mob so I don't have a name for one atm, but should be possible to google.
Discovered the same phenomenon, my device was surfing the web for more than 4 hours yesterday before I discovered. I disconnected the connection manually, after 10 minutes it was surfing again. T-Mobile says: Windows Mobile is doing it, there is no way of preventing it, but upon request they would terminate my mobile internet for good to "solve" the problem. I wonder what these people smoke these days....
Greetings, Studebaker
me too yesterday, just installed nodata...
Hello,
I am new one to WM, but I was wondering about it few days and I can say that you can stop it.
1. - you need to stop PUSH Pages in Internet - this is the most important, because I had there 5 pages prepared for Push internet and they were loading every 6 hours
2. stop Push Email
3. of course you can stop Quick GPS, but it is connecting once a week
You need to shut down the browser through the Exit command not only the corner cross.
After that it is not connecting

Yes, I've been wondering what's the good of 'exiting' Opera when you really haven't exited it at all. Why would HTC want to hide Opera from the taskmanager when it's really still running? It doesn't make sense.

It's Opera itself declaring itself to be a background process. There are many of these running all the time. I've just cleared all the items from the 'task manager' in the top corner of the UI, yet my device still has 20 tasks running.

So you're saying it's not TF3D in my TD2 that's making the difference, but the version of Opera that differs from the one on my TD1?

I suspect so. It'll be remaining in the background in order to do the push internet stuff I reckon.
You can remove it from the "System Exception List" under:
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\Opera9.exe
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System\OperaL.exe
I just renamed these keys to:
Opera9.exe_
and OperaL.exe_
Restart the device afterwards!!!!
