Backlight Off Timer Automatically Set to 10 sec - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Does anyone has my problem? I've tried to set the backlight off timer in Setting > Power to a longer value. But everytime I lock my phone, this timer will automatically reset to 10sec!!
Very strange......

Yes, exactly the same here. Maybe it's related to some installed software. I guessed it was SKTools or Advanced Config (as they try to tune a better performance), or some registry tweaks. Did u install any of these, or did any registry tweak?
Then, I flashed it to ROM 137, and it's fine till now (SKTools not installed yet).

I have installed Advanced Config

I had the same problem, but when turning off the keyblock the problem was fixed...

Hi,
And what about the backlight off timer when having a call ?
During a call, there is no possibility to keep backlight on more than 5 seconds. A bit too short to think and tap a date or a note.
Nowhere to configure this timer.

No Display While on Phone

I'm new the the Tilt, so I trying to get it configured to work well with me. My problem is the display goes black while I'm on the phone. If can jog the volume and get it to relight, but I would like it to stay on during the whole call.
I'm in stalled Kaiser Tweaks and set Fast Sleep Disabled, Sleep Disallow, and HTC or Windows Mobile Dialer to WM5. I closed and reopened Kaiser Tweaks to make sure it though the changes were stored in the registry. But the display still shuts off during the call.
Any suggestions on how to pursue troubleshooting this?
Thanks,
Bernie
soft reset after you make the changes?
You need to disable "Fast Sleep during call"
Kdog,
I don't think so. I just softbooted so well see how it does today.
Elwyn,
Is that a different setting than the "Fast Sleep" I listed above? I can't find one called "Fast Sleep during call".
Thanks all!
Bernie
Install a registry editor program and verify that KaiserTweak made the changes necessary to disable Fast Sleep and Sleep During Call.
Go to: HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall, and make sure the value is set to 0. Repeat for HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall.
Soft reset your phone after changing/verifying.
NatA,
What is the second key to check? You gave the same key both times.
Bernie
Under Schaps Advanced Config:
6th section down: Phone
Phone sleep during call: Disabled / Enabled
Fast sleep during call: Disabled / Enabled
I have both disabled.
KaiserTweak
1st Section: Call
Fast Sleep: Disabled / Enabled
Sleep: Disabled / Enabled
Not had any problems with those two tools. If the setting isn't working then enable then disable it.
Seems to be working now. I think the problem was no reset after changing the settings. It is always a good idea to reset after a registry change?

Backlight problem

My screen will be darker after 10 sec.
I can set this again to 5 min. and after a few on and offs it will be back at 10 sec.
This is very annoying!
I thought i had found the problem, but it wasn't.
HKCU/ControlPanel/Backlight/BatteryTimeout setting up to 300. This is 5 minutes. It counts in seconds. But this isn't working.
Please can anyone help me?? A lot more have this problem.
I have the same problem, anyone the solution?

yes, my backlight stay's also on for 1 minute(my setting)...hope the sound problem is also gone..
It is a bug in keypad locking
I think the backlight problem only occurs if you are using the keylock feature by pressing the end call button for a couple of seconds.
You can try it out yourself:
1) set your backlight settings to whatever you want and verify it works as intended.
2) Now just normally switch of your phone (not locking the keypad) by pressing the power button, switch back on and verify that the setting is still correct.
3) Then do a soft reset and again verify that the setting is correct.
4) Now lock the keypad by using the end call button (press a couple of seconds until locked).
5) Now unlock the phone and check the backlight settings: they are put back on the default values!! I guess it is a bug in the keypad lock functionality.
Btw, step 2) and 3) are just for verification, you may skip these to reproduce the bug.
Actually, if you use the lock feature of the device (for instance by enabling AutoDeviceLock in the registry, see tweak 18 in the stickied Diamond tweaks thread) the settings are also reset to the default values.
Is this the case for everybody? Or is it just me that it seems the locking feature contains bugs.
FYI...I had this issue from the start when I was running the Asia HK 1.34 ROM image. I flashed it using HardSPL and put the Europe 1.35 image on the device and have not had the problem since. All backlight values work normally as of now....I recommend this if your device is the HK ROM and you're having the issue. Not sure if it'll work for you, but it worked for me....
The solution is simply
You have to change DWORD LockLevel present in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\ to 0 (zero)
And now your time of standby don't change anymore

backlight reverts to 10 seconds

I found this problem frustrating.
Settings > system> backlight > battery power > from 10 secs to, say, 2 min
I set backlight to more than 10 secs, but after 1-2 days, it reverts to 10 secs...even if I do NO perform any soft reset!
This issue appears with all the ROMs I have used: dutty, Romeo, original, etc
What can be the cause?
Thanks
Saulo866
additionally: is there an application which make me REALLY control the backlight time, so I can override this 10 secs limitations?
I believe that backlight is linked to paswword time: if password time is set to, say, 1 minute, and backlight to 5 minutes, which is longer than pwd time, very soon the backlight will "adjust" back to default 10 secs...
Please help

Are you using Blackberry Connect AND Tomtom?
Blackberrry Connect is running all the time. I have the same 10 second issue whenever I exit Tomtom.
I usually end up doing a soft reset to fix the problem.
Thanks: here my answers:
1. I do not use blackberry
2. TomTom: yes, it is installed, but I use it very rarely, say once any 3 months.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks and waiting

When you go into the Backlight settings, try clicking on Menu at the bottom, then Power, then the Advanced tab, and set it there and see if that helps. I think that was what I finally did to help this out.
Maybe it's opera mobile 9.5 beta (if you have that on there.) It's been shown to reset notification settings, and I've also had my backlight timeout reset to 10 seconds as well as the notification settings reset.
Same pb today
Go in parameters, power and encrease the time of run before going in stand-bye when using battery.
It resolve my problem
I had problems with a few roms that would present this problem after sync'ing with exchange outlook. if i didn't sync, no backlight problems, after sync didn't matter - ten seconds the light would dim.
anyone else have problems like this?

I have encountered this issue & it relates to the "Fast Sleep" function from the phone module; whenever I get an incoming call, it resets the backlight timer from 3 min to 10 seconds. I used Schaps Advanced Configuration to disable the Fast Sleep, but it resets w/an incoming call. HTC says that despite the registry changes; they are overriden by the factory settings coded in the phone module.

I found this occuring after sync'ing to exchange to be the case. If I didn't sync, then I wouldn't have the problem with the backlight issue. Everyone that is experiencing this problem has to do something with WM6.1. If you do enough research you will find this out to be the case. Some chefs that modded their roms prevent this from happening, so far I have only come across one cooked roms that prevent this.
AKADonny's Rom
Hope this helps.
If anyone knows how to patch this problem, let me know.

Backlight & Device Lock? Grrr.....

I spent half of last night and the last 3-hours searching on here and via Google but am stumped if I can solve this issue.
I have a ROM based on the HTC Official 5.2.19212. Included in this I have Battery Status (now HomeScreen PlusPlus) and the Tools page is set to enable 'DeviceLock on WakeUp', 'Lock if Device is Off or vice versa' & 'BackLight Fix for 10s-Bug & 30 sec.' (these settings are included by default in the ROM). I also have the BackLight settings for Battery Power set to 'Turn off the backlight if device is not used for 30 sec'.
No matter what I try the Battery Power BackLight settings ALWAYS revert back to 10-seconds in the GUI, however in the registry it is 7-seconds (HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\BatteryTimeout:00000007).
It looks like if the Device Lock kicks in (either manually from the Today Screen or as a result of Battery Status) the registry entry changes to 7 and there is nothing you can do about it. This is by far the most annoying thing with the Kaiser (and it seems most other WM6 devices based on my searching). I have tried some of the StartUp utilities that are supposed to fix this as well as all the registry tweaks I have found and the the behaviour is always the same.
Believe me I have searched and searched and there seems to be no solution that I can find for this. Is there one that I have missed?
Andy
(There is another issue where if you go to the Battery Status settings the registry entry [HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel] always gets reset to 0, however as I don't open the settings to Battery Status very often this isn't a big deal).

Already found that and it doesn't have any solutions...

Latest post from Cingular Forum:
The backlight has not dimmed in nearly four hours after I set HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\ACTimeout to 0.
I did a soft reset and the setting remained 0.
I put the phone into stand-by (quick press of the power button) and when brought out of stand-by, the value of ACTimeout was reset to 8.
I have been getting so pi$$ed off with this I just disabled the Battery power backlight settings and deleted the registry entry that keeps getting reverted:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\BatteryTimeout]
This was just to stop it dimming after 10-seconds - i.e. just leave the backlight on regardless. Anyway its now behaving exactly like I want it to - The screen will dim after 30-seconds whether its locked or unlocked. If I hit the power button or the Device Lock on the Today screen the registry entry does not return (so far anyway) and its still waiting 30-seconds before the backlight dims. I need to do some soft resets etc, but it's looking good....

Backlight randomly defaults back to 10 Sec

Hi Guys,
Although I set my backlight to stay on for 2 minutes, it randomly defaults back to the 10 second timeframe.
Why does it do this and can it be prevented?
I have the same problem. I did a hard reset, and it was fine, until I hit lock, now it's happening all over again. I adjusted it in kaisertweaks, but it just ignores it. Screen always dims after 10 seconds.
Check backlight and power setting for both battery and mains.
If you are also using S2U2, check the backlight settings there also. Whatever it says on S2U2, it will override the other settings.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
MAC
