Backlight randomly defaults back to 10 Sec - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi Guys,
Although I set my backlight to stay on for 2 minutes, it randomly defaults back to the 10 second timeframe.
Why does it do this and can it be prevented?

I have the same problem. I did a hard reset, and it was fine, until I hit lock, now it's happening all over again. I adjusted it in kaisertweaks, but it just ignores it. Screen always dims after 10 seconds.

Check backlight and power setting for both battery and mains.
If you are also using S2U2, check the backlight settings there also. Whatever it says on S2U2, it will override the other settings.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
MAC

backlight reverts to 10 seconds

I found this problem frustrating.
Settings > system> backlight > battery power > from 10 secs to, say, 2 min
I set backlight to more than 10 secs, but after 1-2 days, it reverts to 10 secs...even if I do NO perform any soft reset!
This issue appears with all the ROMs I have used: dutty, Romeo, original, etc
What can be the cause?
Thanks
Saulo866
additionally: is there an application which make me REALLY control the backlight time, so I can override this 10 secs limitations?
I believe that backlight is linked to paswword time: if password time is set to, say, 1 minute, and backlight to 5 minutes, which is longer than pwd time, very soon the backlight will "adjust" back to default 10 secs...
Please help

Are you using Blackberry Connect AND Tomtom?
Blackberrry Connect is running all the time. I have the same 10 second issue whenever I exit Tomtom.
I usually end up doing a soft reset to fix the problem.
Thanks: here my answers:
1. I do not use blackberry
2. TomTom: yes, it is installed, but I use it very rarely, say once any 3 months.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks and waiting

When you go into the Backlight settings, try clicking on Menu at the bottom, then Power, then the Advanced tab, and set it there and see if that helps. I think that was what I finally did to help this out.
Maybe it's opera mobile 9.5 beta (if you have that on there.) It's been shown to reset notification settings, and I've also had my backlight timeout reset to 10 seconds as well as the notification settings reset.
Same pb today
Go in parameters, power and encrease the time of run before going in stand-bye when using battery.
It resolve my problem
I had problems with a few roms that would present this problem after sync'ing with exchange outlook. if i didn't sync, no backlight problems, after sync didn't matter - ten seconds the light would dim.
anyone else have problems like this?

I have encountered this issue & it relates to the "Fast Sleep" function from the phone module; whenever I get an incoming call, it resets the backlight timer from 3 min to 10 seconds. I used Schaps Advanced Configuration to disable the Fast Sleep, but it resets w/an incoming call. HTC says that despite the registry changes; they are overriden by the factory settings coded in the phone module.

I found this occuring after sync'ing to exchange to be the case. If I didn't sync, then I wouldn't have the problem with the backlight issue. Everyone that is experiencing this problem has to do something with WM6.1. If you do enough research you will find this out to be the case. Some chefs that modded their roms prevent this from happening, so far I have only come across one cooked roms that prevent this.

Hope this helps.
If anyone knows how to patch this problem, let me know.

Backlight settings ALWAYS defaults to 5min

I have a tytn 2.
I set the backlight to go off after 30 secs but it ALWAYS seems to default back to 5 mins.
I have SBP mobile shell & S2U2 installed.
Any ideas please ?
oppostie problem on tilt
I have the opposite problem on my WM6.0 Tilt with stock ROM.
After every soft reset (daily, because I have a daily scheduled backup) it always reverts to the minimum setting of 10 seconds. I'd love to get it to stick at the maximum of 5 minutes.
Yep, mine keeps going back to 10 sec. but mine does it everytime I push the power button to wake it up. quite annoying when you are trying to read websites and the backlight goes dim instantly.

How do you check message?

Hi, please forgive me for asking such a dumb question. I imagine my problem is not that uncommon. By default, the phone turns off back light if I don't touch any key for 30 seconds (feels like shorter than that). Anyway, I dial in to check my voicemail. Due to the length of the message, the back light turns off. It looks like there is no key other than the power button can bring the screen back. Sometimes, I have to press the power button a couple of times before the screen comes back, then when I try to delete the message (by pressing 7) sometimes I don't even see the keypad any more. It's just a bit of hassle. Can you tell me how you would do it?
thanks very much!
I'm not sure if there's an option for the phone not to switch the backlight off and/or go to sleep while in a phone call.
If you want to control the duration before the phone switches off the backlight or goes to sleep, you will have to change the backlight or power settings ujnder Settings -> System.
didn't know when and how it was set at 10 sec backlight

Thanks! I went into Settings -> System -> backlight and realized that it was set to was set at 10 sec on battery. I don't know when it got changed. Reset it back to 30 sec. should be better now. Changed the power to turn off after 3 min, too.

Backlight time out disabled..??

I was driving with Tomtom on my diamond 2 when suddenly the screen blanked out. Exactly after 30 minutes the screen went black. I pressed the power on button again, and tomtom was in the taskmanager list, so I could enable it rather quickly again.
I checked in Settings - system - energy - advanced and the settings were default. I did some testing, and without external power after 30 seconds the screen blanked out again. So, on external power after 30 minutes, and after 30 seconds without power the topaz shuts down the backlight.
This wasn't the case; I use tomtom a lot. Did a hard-reset after all, but no succes. The backlight/screen goes off on the same time, regardless of the settings. regardless of the used program. (my diamond 1 first dimmed the backlight, and after a short period the screen went completely black. The 2 doesn't do this..)
Anyone some ideas??
What ROM are you using?
If you have used a cooked rom, it might be something in there causing it...the 6.5 rom I have from Tom seems to do a similar thing but within 10 seconds the dim kicks in even though the power settings say otherwise
Do let us know!
I have the original HTC (Dutch) Rom.
After some testing, it seems that only Tomtom gives this problem, although no matter what settings I use, the backlight dims at 30 secs/ 30 minutes (without/with external power).
When I use Coreplayer, the screen stays on.
I just upgraded to the new htc rom (21-07-2009) but the problem persists. I just asked HTC; will post their response.

Lockscreen time out not following normal screen timeout.

I have a T3 on 5.1.1 - stock everything, not rooted (yet).
Screen timeout is set to 1 minute.
If I press the power key or home key to turn the phone on, and just leave it sitting there the screen will not shut off. It has been on for 7 minutes so far. Not sure how long it will stay on.
I've had crappy battery life and now I think I know why. Power button or home is getting turned on in my pocket and it won't turn off.
AFAIK, no other timeout settings have been changed other than the Settings -> Display -> Screen Timeout set to 1 minute.
Is there another setting somewhere that is specific to the lock screen's timeout? I can't find one anywhere.
Edit: Has been on for over 20 minutes.
Looks like the lock screen will turn off if I set screen timeout to 15 seconds or 30 seconds. If set to 1 minute or 2 minutes (haven't checked longer than that) the lock screen will not turn off.
Bummer... Oh well 30 seconds it is.
Can someone try and recreate this?
Set your screen timeout to 1 minute. Lock your phone then turn it back on. Does your screen turn off after 1 minute?
If not, set it to 30 seconds and see if that works.
I don't have a t3 or lollipop installed so not really a comparison.
My 910t on FireKat (4.4.4) has always been set on 1 minute and times out just as it should.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I have the T3 Stock 5.1.1. Screen timeout is set to 1min. Lockscreen turns off in 4-5 sec. That's normal based on all the phones I've had. I would factory reset or think replacement
I'm about to root so I'll do the factory reset then. Don't want to flash any ROMs yet as I like all the features of the Note from TW and not ready to lose them. I can live with a 30sec timeout if needed. At least I know it's not a known bug and it may just be the way it's behaving now and might be fixable.
Thanks for trying it out!
