I have been messing around with my tilt trying to get to know it and everything. it is my first real phone. Anyways I'm trying to get gps to work with google maps, and it just fails without telling me why. the only thing I see anywhere which says gps is the quickgps. I click download and it does. is there some other thing I'm missing here?
did u click "use gps" in google maps? if yes, and still no luck after a few minutes (assuming you are in an open space), go to options and gps settings in google maps and make sure that it is set by windows, if that still doesn't work, try setting it manually by selecting com4 and 56000 for rate.
under the settings check the first box that says manage automatically
and i think that rate better off 9600
I start google maps, then I click use gps. It says in the little blue box:
seeking GPS satellites (0) ...
for a while, then the yellow box says your current location is temporarily unavailable, then it goes back to the seeking, and back to the yellow box, etc.. just basically endlessly not finding what it's looking for.
I set the settings manually like you said and tried again. this time it said intializing gps and then finding my location, then it gives me this full screen message:
no gps receiver was found. make sure you have a gps receiver (built-in or bluetooh) that is turned on and configured to work with google maps for mobile. see below for instructions
and the instructions basically say configure it or contact your provider to do it for you
either set it up so it done automatically at the options page or
were are you sitting when you try it
since there was another reply while I was typing that, and it's still not working, let me be clear on everything I have set..
start > settings > system > external gps > programs > COM4
start > settings > system > external gps > hardware > (None)
start > settings > system > external gps > hardware > 4800
start > settings > system > external gps > access > checked
google maps > options > settings > set by windows
(i have also tried):
google maps > options > settings > manual > com4
google maps > options > settings > manual > 5600
yet I am unable to get anything
were are you sitting when you try this
at my desk in los angeles. I also tried it in a car in pasadena yesterday
firsly set it all to work automatically and then go outside and try again. space sattelites have trouble looking through roofs. have you not seen enemy of the state
Does yoru phone have windows mobile 6.1 or windows mobile 6.0. If it is 6.1 there appears to be a known problem with getting a GPS fix. Unfortunately no easy answer to resolving the issue. see this link

Good luck

This a not a problem with the phone, but with the current version of google maps.
For further discussion and workaround see this thread on google groups.
Scroll down till you see this and download the GPSviewer.exe file...it worked for me...
At current version Google Maps does not allow enough time to get
satellite fix.
It will simply timed out with the TyTn II.
But there is a workaround as pointed above: Use other application to
get the satellite fix and then Google Maps will work fine.
Here is a good application for this workaround:

I hope Google will fix this soon (please ... *begging*).

Hi all,
I have just got an MDA vario 3. I can use tomtom 6 with the built in gps fine but google maps does not have any options for gps at all! No where to set it up nothing !
Its google maps 1.7.1.4
Do I need to download any other software to enable the gps option?
It is set for com4 in setting in WM6 and Tomtom can find it and use it…
Any help?
The option is called "Show My Location". We forewarned, though, it doesn't function the same way a true GPS navigation app works. Basically, I use it to let me know when I'm getting close to a turn ... Google Maps does not (as far as I know) go turn by turn automatically based on location.
Edit: By the way, you have to turn on Show My Location before you have the option of using your current GPS location to plot your directions. You won't even see the option if you haven't told Google you have GPS with the Show My Location menu item.
thank you, I was looking for an option that said GPS!!!
Silly Me!
Hey all,
Tried the board search for a possible solution to my prob, to no avail so far:
I am using a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, GP5110, android 4.0.3.
Fully rooted, avast! security installed as firewall, running in whitelist mode - I rather allow those few application I like internet access and have everything else blocked by default, with the ongoing permission-hunger of most app developers I figured to be better safe than sorry.
My problem: Googles` Maps App is running perfectly fine, however when I try to download any offline maps (settings -> make available offline) it just opens a tab called "My Places", showing my map indicating 0.0MB/0.0MB, download never starts.
I tried whitelisting a number of different system processes - such as was necessary to get the youtube app running - but was not successful identifying the correct ones.
Anybody out there who could help?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Chris
Can you not turn the firewall off , download the maps you want then turn it back on ? I have managed to download offline maps but avast firewall was not on ..... just a thought.
Would probably work, but I'm rather looking for a permanent solution than a workaround... Thanks for your suggestion though!
Go to settings -> Clear all offline maps
Then open Google Play, uninstall Google Maps, then update Google Maps, Restart Device,
Now it works on mine. There should be a notification section called "Downloaded Maps" which tells you the progress, as well as inside Google maps.
Im trying to enable GPS tethering for Google Maps and I need to select "Allow Mock Location" in setting some where. Can you please help me locate where in the Gear this can be located?
its under the developer settings - which is hidden unless you unlock it - . while on the desktop (using Nova launcher) to get the developer settings, go into settings, about gear, then tap build number about 5 times to enable developer options. go back to the previous screen (still under settings), then scroll down to 'developer options', tap this and look for allow mock locations

Do you have to be on Internet Tether to accomplish this? and I'm assuming you just installed Google Maps to the gear?
Bluetooth transfer the APK from your phone to the gear. It is the easiest way, I have found to transfer amd install files.
Help pls
Whenever i turn on allow mock location, it automatically turns it off for some reason i dont know
I have a Samsung s5 Version 5.1.1
Hello all you nexus 6 experts!
I am experiencing a weird bug for selecting the mock location app under developer settings. Currently I have three different apps installed - FakeGPS, Lockito and Go Walking Fake GPS Location.
Now, after I set one of the apps as the mock location provider, I can no longer select any other one. I can only choose "None" from the list or the initial selection. e.g. currently I can only set FakeGPS or "none" for the setting. After I uninstall the "stuck" app I can again choose a different one - but then the setting gets stuck on this one.
I am on a Nexus 6 with the July build of Marshmallow (6.0.1 MOB30O). It's running the stock ROM with franco.Kernel and root.
Anybody experienced something like this and has a solution?
Is there a way to edit this setting somewhere directly in a config file?
Same issue. Wondering if its a FakeGPS thing. PokeMon right!
I'm having exactly the same problem on Xperia Z2 (6.0.1). Any solution so far?

Okay Poke's... Figured out the issue. No doubt we all downloaded FakeGPS and moved it to /system right?
After moving FakeGPS back to /data (normal app) I can select other mock location apps (Pokemon GO Joystick).
You can do this with "/system/app mover" available in the Google Play store. Just enable "Show system apps" and scroll down to the app you want to move back to /data (FakeGPS). Then reboot and you should be good
Actually, I haven't moved my app to the system partition since Google's partitioning for stock images leaves little space to do anything with \system. Anyways - a Redditor pointed out one thing to me: even if the setting is not updating on the UI-side, it is actually updating properly on the backend. Basically, just select any other mock location app and it will work fine even though something else is being displayed. I was sceptical at first since some of my apps were crashing before and I interpreted that as a sign of a jumbled setting but now everything works fine.

That's true, i just realized it. To confirm this, when i open fakegps if i didn't select it as mock location app it tells me to do so and when i select it that message disappears even though the "select mock location app" section shows another app as selected. It seems to be just a UI problem.
edit.
guys my nexus 6 shows 2 location on the map. My current location and the mock location. How do i remove my current location and only allow the mock location to be active?
You might need to disable the Fused Location service.
And change the location settings to phone only. Also turn off Wi-Fi scanning if connected or around known hotspots/networks.
Or...enjoy the summer and actually walk around town like you're supposed to?
I'm actually having the same issue with the "stuck mock location app". I tried to remove those apps and I still cannot select the app I want to, in this case, Fly Gps.
when i take photos, it would give me a geotag that is significantly incorrect. For example, my address is 123 Fake St. but the geotag would be like 100 Fake St. Other apps that uses gps/location like google maps seems to be fine with precision. I once took a pic and the geotag would say i took it somewhere in the middle east (but im in Toronto) but it corrected itself.
Anyone had this issue and fixed it?
i have the geo-tagging issues on photos taken with the device where it says taken somewhere else to where I have taken it, even though when you look at maps or any applications that use location they are fine.
Mine is more like taking a picture at 100 This Street but it usually shows 100 Two Streets Away
You could try these instructions I got from Huawei
Regarding your query, we would kindly recommend to reset app preferences following the steps below:
1. Settings > Apps and notifications > Apps > Maps > Clear data/Clear Cache, go back and select Force Stop.
2. Settings > Apps and notifications > Apps > Gallery > Clear Cache, go back and select Force Stop.
3. Settings > Apps and notifications > Apps > Camera > Clear data/Clear Cache, go back and select Force Stop.
4. Then you have to return to Settings > Apps and notifications > Apps > More > Reset app preferences. At the end of the process restart the phone.
5. Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Location services > and use High accuracy.

thnx. Will give this a shot.
update: this worked but i did not 'reset app preferences' (tried this first as it would be a pain in the ass to reconfigure each app's preference). Thanks again
