Hello guys, since it is my first post I'd like to say "What a wonderful forum!" Thanks for letting lamers like me be here...
I have a problem with my newly bought HTC Diamond..I don't know what and why happens but as soon as I connect the phone to my laptop via USB cable and activesync program, my Wi-Fi goes dead ASAP..it hangs on Acquiring network address and it gets one after a while but no traffic neither on my pc nor on my pda when I disconnect the pda I continue without internet on my pc...I have to restart for it to come and the process repeats itself over and over again
Thanks in advance for your help.
I used to have that problem with my thinkpad and my old smartphone.
Try settings -> all settings -> connections -> USB to PC
and turn off 'enable advanced network functionality'
errr try:
1) performing a hard reset on your Diamond and try this again?
2) try with different laptop?

I think you should try to disable your anti-virus / firewall / internet security program first. i suspect it got something to do it.

I think that is spot on. From what i remember, it was something to do with a 'Security feature' that microsoft implements in async 4, but it only seemed to affect certain intel chipsets (i could be wrong, it's been a while since i saw that happen) for wireless LAN.
Far as i know, there was a USB swithc application made here way back when, that microsoft then copied and put in the roms as USB to PC. hopefully it'll fix your little issue.
Yeah, activsync sets up a virtual network, which drives any connection manager or firewall you have crazy!
Depends on what combination of things your running on your PC.
I remember a similar problem I had and I had to enable Transient Packet Data=Allowed in my firewall. (Outpost Pro).
Thanks guys!
The:
Try settings -> all settings -> connections -> USB to PC
and turn off 'enable advanced network functionality'
did the job.
Thanks again.

I was gonna suggest that but guess you've found it. Looks like a setup or conflict issue with something else on your laptop.

I'm not quite sure this is the appropriate place to post, so forgive me if it isn't.
I remember some time ago, when still on my magician, that somebody had made a program so that, when connected to a pc via USB, the phone would be seen as a usb pen drive, directly accessing the sd card. I also remember it was only for WM5.
But I switched to Trinity, so now I'm looking for it through all of the forum: I hate to be the lazy b*stard, but I've been searching for the past hour to no avail: every time I key in usb, half of the threads in the forum show up, obviously...
So anybody remember what it's called?
Thanks for any help or indication
WM5Storage
After install you must goto settings> Comunications> USB to PC and uncheck that setting for WM5Storage to work properly. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for the quick answer you guys - you're simply great!

Just give me a error... "failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial"
you might need to shut down any background apps that are running. I had WisBar advance running when I tryed and it would not even bring up the screen. When I shut Wisbar down i was able to change the setting. could be a background app or today plugin that is interfering with it.

I think it's probably AvtiveSync, which is almost always runnig in the background, that is causing the error when you uncheck the USB>PC setting.

I solved this problem by deleting (temporary) my com connection to my bluetooth device (GPS).
DHCP client and RNDIS versus USB connection
As i tweak so much over time on my system, my DHCP client was turned off.
That's why my RNDIS device could not connect.
Through my local PC it needed to connect to the network DHCP server. CE seems to do this through XP's DHCP client services.
Turning these services on created the "advanced network connection" to work.
Big advantage to connect like this instead of turning off the RNDIS module and connect through 'normal' USB, is that my PC will now recodnize and automaticaly change from my private phone to my work phone (WM6.0 and WM6.1)
Network capability of my phone is achieved by having the right ip address in the 'external NDIS module' (networkcards). I had to do this manualy. Don't know why but; hey... Without network, still all Active sync options can be used, like installing or removing software, opening the mobile registry etc.
So: 6.1 can turn off the advanced network capability. My 6.0 with a lot of tools cannot.
But They both work better with my PC if I leave it turned on and turn on the DHCP client of my local PC.!
I hope this helps. It was a lovely solution after 5 hours of reading threads.
WM5torage is good program for that

Hey everyone I am really curious about how I need to go about accesing the internet throung the usb connection while my tilt is plugged in. I have read that previous versions of active sync had a feature called pass through which could be enabled / disabled at your choice. However in the current version of active sync this does not seem to be an option.
I basically just want to be able to browse the net on my tilt while I am connected to the pc via my usb cable.
Why because the at home internet connect is way better then the 3g network. This way I can download large files directly to my phone.
I have tried the registry edit as well as other methods. Still can't get the damn thing to work..
I am running the stock tilt rom directly from att. No mods no nothing. Also the version of active sync that I have came directly off the att tilt cd.
Please Help I appreciate your efforts in advance!
I have this workaround ( same situation with my X51V ) that you can try.
import the reg file or add the following key:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
Most works out of the box ( internet while activesync ... not sure why yours don't ... could be something that you did ??
anyway ... try the reg import and report back
I didn't do anything on mine and it is able to connect to internet through the USB whenever I connect it. WiFi is disable when the USB is connected.

when setting up activesync ... the last window allow you to enable WIFI while connected to USB too ( if prefered )
or go into ( File -->> Connection Settings ) and check "allow wireless connection on device while connected to desktop"
yeah tried the reg hack before. didn't change anything for me.
I also messed with the advanced network functionality box under start settings> connections> USB to PC.
No worky for me.
Is there anything else you guys have done on the phone? Should there be any other entries under network management? RIght now I have listed
Media Net
AT&T ISP
My Work Network
MY ISP
If you haven't MOD anything like you've said ... I would suggest a hard reset ... and don't touch that USB to PC setting !!!
things should allow you to surf while activesync right out of the box !

for real OH Jebus Hard reset. Just great. Well atleast i don't have too much on my phone.
Any other suggestions?
In your PC ACtiveSYnc' connection settings, you will have a drop-down under name "This computer is connected to". Take out Automatic there and choose Internet.
Sometimes ActiveSync will not recognize that your PC has internet. Tell me if this was it in your case.

Carty..

yeah my man did that as well... maybe I will try the hard reset and see what happens
ive been curious about this also. mine just seems to default to my 3g connection...do i have to disable this for it to use the active sync connection?
Nope. When Synced, ActiveSync' net is on first priority!
Regards,
Carty..
I wonder if you have the networks proxy set in your default internet connection and when you connect via as it cant see the proxy nd thus wont allow connection...
interesting i tried out the newest rom on kaiser upgrade section...the att rom. i was gettin the same behavior. i loved the rom but was only bugged by that. i went to a new rom and fixed that problem. something with how att handles activesync cant do the job.
And ATT use a proxy...

i tried the diasable proxy cab flying around...it was no good. I'm using a different rom right now. It only happened to me on that specific rom.
I would have thought you just need to check the connection settings and make sure no proxy is enabled.
regarding the Tilt and the proxy ... you could try out these 2 cabs at this thread ( 1 for disable ... the other is for enable )
look towards the end of the post ..."Sleuth255" had provided the cabs for you Tilt owners to fix the hidden proxy that is involved with AT&T Tilt
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1656670&postcount=1
if it works ... holler so that other Tilt owners can benefit !

Nice I downloaded the cabs. But before I launched them I took a look at my tilt for another second.
Keep in mind that I just did a hard reset and this is a stock att ship ROM.
Under start> Programs>Tools> There is a icon called proxy manager.
I clicked on diable proxy and did a soft reset. The problem is now fixed. I can browse the net while connected via usb through pass Thru.
Maybe the cabs do not need to be downloaded afterall as att already has them installed but thank you for the lifesaver!
Thanks people!
Hi,
I also used proxy manager to disable the proxy. Now whenever i connect my phone with activesync, it keeps connecting to the phone's GPRS (mediaNet). i look under the connections icon and it shows medianet connected, but not activesync.
anyone know how i can fix this to return to normal? i tried enabling the proxy again, but no luck.
HI,
I think I need the opposite
At work there is a very restrictive proxy that allows pie connections but, for example, does not allow to update the weather in HTC HOME.
There is a WIFI nearby that allows it...
Now, what I would like is to have my device ActiveSync'ed (so contacts, and so on are OK) while using WIFI for ineternet access...
Anyone knows if it is possible and how?
Thanks
Hello! I have a touch diamond only 3 weeks old! The last few days my diamond has gone mad. It won't connect to any PC no more. Everything else works. I can charge the battery and use my handsfree but not sync it with my Pc. I've even tried different cables and different pc's with no luck Could this be a software issue or is it more likely a hardware issue? Btw I have the latest original ROM from HTC. Anyone else had the same problem?
Thanks

Hi!
I have a german version, but I try to explain. There is a "Fast synchronisation" option. You have to disable it.
You can find it in "Setup?" --> "Connection?" --> "USB to PC" ther you can disable it.
Greetings
I'm assuming you mean connecting via active sync??
I think it's Start > Settings > USB to PC > "enable advanced network functionality" or similar. It's random - try enabling or disabling. I think this is ROm version dependent.
Also in the Active Sync settings on your PC make sure USB is enabled. Check File > Connection Settings > Allow USB connections.
It always forgets this setting for me and is unchecked after each reboot.
Did you try turning off the phone and restarting your PC (I'm sure you did). Sometimes my Diamond is fussy about re-connecting once you remove it.

Thanks for all the answears! But I've already tried all that I'm afraid! Think I need to send it in to get it fixed! Can't see that this is a software problem

Hi Kjettern, did you ever resolve your USB not connecting issue? I am having the same problem with my TyTNII...but mine was after an upgrade. thx!
Tried this on two PCs with Activesync on now...
When I connect, the phone pops up the message about whether to use activesync or disk. If I choose disk, I can happily copy stuff from PC to phone.
However, if I choose activesync, it doesnt connect on the PC. I've tried manually connecting activesync on the PC, but it just doesnt find the phone.
Any ideas?
Did you use bluetooth to sync on that pc? If I sync over bluetooth and after that I try to sync by wire I get the same problem as you discribe .
I didn't try to find a way out just keep on syncing true bluetooth but one of the solutions maid be to remove the phone from active sync at your pc and setup a new connecion.
Willem
Nah. Just USB.
I just installed active sync for first time on my laptop here and it wont find. I'm wondering if its something on the actual phone I've deleted or something ?
Hi
Do you use Windows XP or Vista?
On Vista there are many problems but almost all are solved now just do a search on sync Vista in this forum and you maid find the solution.
Willem
Hi guys, I have similar problem. I can sync over BT but does not work over USB.
This problem is on my Vista laptop .
If I connect device with USB, I can find "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" in Device manager. In Network center, I can find new connection using this WMR adapter. But system is not able to assign IP adress for this connection.
Thats probably a reason why sync does not work.
I was trying reinstall Windows mobile center, disable antivirus, firewalls, update drivers...everything. Still does not work.
Any hints are appreciated.
Thanks Ladis
I have the same issue with windows vista and dutty 3.6 rom. It worked fine last time I tried in December, but I tried again yesterday and stopped working...
i have Duttys 3.6b, it was working perfectly. Stopped working after Vista reinstall... so its pretty weird
I found when using my laptop in battery mode activesync wont work but as soon as i switch to high performance mode everything is fine i guess its to do with voltage to the usb in diffeent modes
I'll probably try to flash there last Dutty's ROM V4 and see if there is some different
Hi,
I had the same problem when i change the ROM.
Go to Start -> Configuration -> Connections -> USBtoPC and below ActiveSync appers a sentence and comment to uncheck this item if you are facing problems with ActiveSync.
Test it.

I can not connect my HTC TyTN II to PC. Activesync is installed on my PC, firewall and antivirus is turned off, but HTC shows "status: connecting to host" and nothing happen. I tried Activesync 4.2 and Activesync 4.5.
In my mobile I also unchecked "Enable advanced network functionality"

Nice post,
Because I have same problem.
Thanks for publish this post.
I have the same issue. Also, the phone doesn't charge when switched on. Through much hassle got bluetooth PAN internet sharing to work but for one time only.
Am now preparing to hard reset - it has helped in the past on similar occasions.
The most probable reason is that we're dealing with a windows-phone here.
It's a great and multifunctional tool and among the other functions there is a tedious one - the habit to crap/brick itself from time to time. Oh well.
Good luck!

I reinstalled Activesync on PC, and made hard reset on TyTN II, but nothing has changed. PC shows HTC is connected and ready to use, but Activesync shows: "not connected" and TyTN: "Connecting to Host".
Although I installed wm5torage, and if it's activated and connected to pc my TyTN II freezes while I disconnect USB cable.
