Im a noob
Hi I am a noob and followed this guide but it did nothing...
Basically I have a 02 XDA II - it is locked and I want to upgrade it to windows 6/6.1 - I have been reading through the forum for a couple of hours now covering the wiki for himalays and other things.
I followed the steps on this - but nothing has been upgraded. So I guess this isn't how to upgrade to wm6?
So frustrating cos I can't seem to find the instructions on how to do it.
I believe its a rom i need right?> how do i put it on?
Should I unlock the xda first? (havent worked that out yet) or upgrade to wm6 and then it will be unlocked anyway?
Please please help I have been reading loads and trying to not ask obvious thigns.
i donot know if its SIM locked or not...try givinf xda2unlock a try
second, to upgrade you need a ROM, there are MANY roms in this Himalaya WM6 Forum...many of them have detailed instructions
it wont be any harm if you upgrade first...try giving it a shot and tell me
Ather
I have also performed 'Unlock Wiz/Himalaya' but all I get is 'The phone seems unlocked already' - but it is not unlocked - any advice with this also?
try to upgrade the rom simply, if u get stuck, we all are here
I am struggling through trying to work out how to unlock my sim and then flash WM6 onto my 02 XDA ii which therefore is a himalya - says PH10b in model no.
Anyway Im following one of the guides (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...0for newbies) and it says I have to establish whether it is a G3 or G4 or else Ill brick it and probably throw myself out of my window.
So I performed a soft reset and got the following information in red letters when I do it.
R 1.10.00
G 1337. 18
1.60.00WWE
I just don't know if it is a G3 or G4 and can't afford to brick this phone - so please could someone help me so I know which intructions to follow?
I will send best reply a stick of rock from Blackpool (famous for rock - its like sugary concerete).
Sorry to be unclear - it is sim locked - it has horrible 02 logos all over it.
Bastards.
Anyway it is sim locked and wm 2003 i think.
Im not clear about how to install a rom - i did update the drivers putting it in boot and then updating driver from what i downloaded - which I think was to resolve and issue with vista/xp as i am using vista.
Right now im trying to work out G3/G4 because i found what seemed to be a good instrucitonal post
lol, the xda2 doesent has g3 or G4 ... so flash away
So how do i unlock it and then install WM6?
Is there a step by step guide?
It is sim locked and i want to unlock it and install wm6
the Branding has nothing to do with the Simlock, my Himalaya is from O2 too, and all it had was Branding, no simlock.
I'm currently using E-Plus as my Provider, and i did not have to circumvent any simlock before flashing WM6.1 onto the Device.
Also, if it DID have a Simlock, it has probably worn off by now, since the Device is already older than 2 years...
I have managed to unlock the sim now thanks to the wonderful people here but still have no clue how to install wm6?
congrats , just download any ROM and enjoy flashing it
do i just download a wm6 file and put it onto my pda and then execute it? double click it? is it that simple?
Can u spefically tell me how to implement a rom?
i assume i download it but then what?
I am thinking I'll just brick it - then spend months on here asking for help... Id rather just ask beforehand and find out how to do it.
it's exactly like ather said, you downloaded the ROM, now you can flash it to your XDA.
Just do it like it says in the Readme and you should have no Problems whatsoever
Strange
I had an old Qtek 2020 and flashed it successfully to WM6.1 No problems exept...... the phne does not conect to the correct provider. The SIM is for the Belgian BASE provider whereas it connects always to ORANGE. When I put the SIM in my new Diamond or in my very old Nokia phne it connects to BASE as intended. I reflashed to the original Qtek WM 2003 SE and same thing. Reflashed again to WM6.1 ans still it only wants to connect to ORANGE ??? What am I overlooking?
BTW if I donload the list of providers there isno BASE provider. If I download the list on my Diamond it appears whithout any problem.
it could be because of the Network Manager has old settings, try setting it up manually
i've got a qtek 2020i
but something went wrong with an upgrade downloaded from qtek netherlands.
now i can't turn it on it doesn't work anymore
in teh screen i can read
serial
v1.01
or when in the cradle usb
plz help out here i can't fint it with active sync.
inreally need the damn thing. it's like losing my right hand
it came with winmobile 2003 ce
maybe i need a more resent version.
I am not an expert by any means but the fact that it switches to USB when cradled means it should be reflashable with a new ROM, search the o2.ie site for their most recent ROM. Not saying their offering is the most recent but it should get you going again
i searched but i can't find anything.
i don't know were i can find it
and if i do how does it work?
my telephone is using Orange / T mobile
Ok I had the same problem recently and managed to fix it using mtty.exe, and a working flash file.
The procedure goes like this:
Get mtty.exe, ( I found a copy on a file sharing site using google ).
Open Activesync and disable the USB option in connection settings, you'll need the usb port for mtty.
Put the device in the cradle, and check that it says USB , (it may say serial 1.01 at this point, don't worry, this happened on mine).
Run mtty.exe, and select USB, this will open a terminal window allowing you to communicate with the device. If you don't see USB as an option then exit mtty and try plugging the USB cable into another port.
Once you have the terminal window open, type task 28 and press enter, this will format the DiskOnChip.
Once this is complete and there are no errors, exit mtty, and run the upgrade, this should hopeully restore your Alpine.
Hi Guys,
I just rooted my T-Mobile Unlocked G1.
After doing this I updates it with Jesusfrek 1.5 ADP.
I want to start learning to create Android application so I was trying to connect the G1 in USB Debug mode.
When the option is selected and connected to usb it does not recognise any new hardware.
On mounting I can view files in the memory card.
Without mounting also I can see Disk Drive>HTC Andoid Phone USB Device
I want to use the device to test my application.
Please help.
Please note: I have bought an unlocked G1 and not the Dev Phone.
Thanks,
Chinmay
Hey Got the problem Solved :
Problem - G1 Not detecting in Debug Mode / ADB Mode
Reason - Windows Automatic Driver Update for USB Disk.
Solution:
Edit the registry
Disclaimer: be careful what you do in regedit.
If you're not sure, don't use it
- Open the Registry Editor (Start > search/run > regedit)
- You *may* need to be administrator to do that
- Search for "vid_0bb4&pid_0c02" in keys or values. It makes take a
while. If you find in a value, delete the whole key folder.
- Some keys might be "locked": right-click them and add "everyone:
full control" to the permissions. Then delete the key folder.
- Repeat the search till no more instances are found.
- Close regedit.
Now the devices will ask for driver and locate the android-sdk\usb_driver\x86
There the phone is now in ADB Mode.

so are you saying if u put it in USB mode it disconnects and not be able to detect it as new device? if its not disconnecting, then its working fine... and go ahead and use adb mode
1st, do you have the SDK and drivers installed on your computer. 2nd, do you know what ADB is?
Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or i will be forced to ban you for 3 days or till you learn.
Thanks

Hi,
Yes I have the SDK Installed and the Environment variables set.
I dont have the Dev phone but I have the dev phone firmware updated on my T-Mobile G1.
Does it require a different cable.
I need to get the phone in debug mode so I can start testing my applications on the phone. Testing the app on the phone is netime better then the emulator.
You missed the 2nd part of question 1 and you didn't answer question 2.
Does 'adb devices' show anything?

ADB shows no devices connected.
When I read the instruction on getting the G1 on Debug mode. It said that when you connect a new hardware would be detected then install the new hardware with the usb drivers in the SDK Tools. - this never happenes when I connect my phone. It does not detect as a new hardware
I can see removable disk in My Computer - if I try to access it says please insert disk. Files are not accessible without mounting the SD Card.
Instead of the Removable Disk being detected the phone should be detected in debug mode right ?
Have you turned on USB debugging in Settings>Applications>Development?

Hi
I have tried the dummies guide concerning updating the HTC USB drivers but had a couple of issues:
1. If I press F8 during the boot process I get an abreviated version of the bois setup which has no selection for turning off digital signing of drivers. I have an ASUS motherboard so to enter the bois I press the DEL key. Whilst in the bios I can see no option for turning off the digital signing. The instructions in the thread simply don't work.
I have done some searching and found web pages that explain how to enter the command window, paste 2 or 3 lines of text to turn off digital signing and put W7 64 bit into a sort of test mode. I have done that and have "Test Mode Windows 7600" in the bottom right corner of my Desktop. I still can't install the HTC USB driver as it brings up an error due to being not signed.
Without installing the new driver I cant change my ROM. There must be others in the same boat having changed to Windows 7. Please help.
Ok a few things:
I'm on windows 7 x64 build 7600, I'm having NO problems, just connect your device in windows let it connect with active sync
Then de-connect your blacktsone, shut it down, and hold volume down button then press start up, it will now start in bootloader mode
Now re-connect and wait for it to get installed by your pc!
If you really DO need htc drivers
Go into your bios
Turn of any quick booting AND turn off full logog display
When windows is starting AFTER the bootscreen you'll get a screen with some sort of TABLE in it with all your hardware and all they're IRQ's
at THIS moment when you see this table press f8
Then you get a boot menu
and you can follow your guide with turning off the signed drivers etcetera!
Great Greet Giblet
wow dude, treat me like the idiot I am. Step by step please.
"Then de-connect your blacktsone" - i guess you mean take out the USB cable?
I wait for it to get re-installed but nothing happens whilst in bootloader and the word serial stays at the bottom of the screen
OMG
Oh my god, I am really frustrated becuase I managed to get it to work with your help but I don't know how. I must have tried everything 10 times without luck then all of a sudden it worked.
If only I knew what I was doing wrong I could pass it along to the next poor sap.
Thanks for your help.

Some options to get a new ROM on your device:
Alternative Option: Run ROM from storage card (this requires HSPL on your device)
- Connect your phone to your pc with the usb cable
- Choose Disk Drive option on your phone when presented with the choice.
- Extract the downloaded rar and if not called BLACIMG.nbh rename the romfile to that (ruusigned.nbh is commonly used so rename when so)
- Copy the BLACIMG.nbh to your phone's storage card via Windows Explorer where it should show up as an removable harddrive.
- Disconnect your phone from the pc once copy has finished.
- Shut down your phone.
- Press Volume Down (left top of phone) and keep it pressed while pressing the Start button (on top of phone) once.
- The bootloader (red, green, blue, white screen) will now start, it will detect the new rom file and ask you if you want to update your current one.
- Confirm and follow instructions on screen
Done.
As for your unsigned drivers i can offer some tips:
- Press F8 after you have seen all your hard drives recognized in the bios bootup screen but before you see the Windows Logo.
- F8 might be set as a bootselector menu by your motherboard manufacturer, if this gets in the way of trying the get to the F8 options from Windows you can disable it in your BIOS (to enter press del)
- If you have Windows 7 Ultimate you are entitled to XP-Mode which is basically a built in virtual machine of Windows XP within Windows 7, some people have been succesfull connection their phone to that XP installation and were able to update via it.
Hope this helps. together with the previous poster's comment you should come a long way, good luck.

Hi en_ky!
I was following the other installation method "Installing Windows XP with Windows Post Install (WPI)" that you can find on this forum, but basically should be the same.
Anyway, regarding WLAN on the WPI method it says:
"13. WLAN: Drivers are copied to c:\wlandrivers, install from there when you are asked for them later". This step is just before installing CYGWIN
After finishing with SwapResolution,
"Now it usually asks about the WLAN drivers, see step nr. 13."
"If it asks about drivers for Windows Mobile, just answer yes until it finishes."
"To get Wifi working, you have to copy the "copy HTC Shift XP Drivers\WLAN\sdbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ say yes to the replace dialog and reboot."
"DO THIS IN SAFE MODE ONLY. This is how I got mine to work. I had the same problem with the yellow and not working wifi code 10 in the device manager."
"If you copy this without being in safe mode, it will not work because after the reboot the system will replace the overridden version with the old one again."
So check again all the steps and do the last one in Safe Mode (I think here is your problem)!
Good luck!
thank you for your reply,
I tried to resolve my problem with help of windows update and an eterneth connection for internet. At first it doesn't start with the same yellow ! But after a restart, it starts!!!!
Many thanks to you in any case; i know that your answer will be usefull for another person with this problem!
