Cant get edge On Diamond only GPRS in US - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey guys Just picked up the Diamond
I cant seem to get the E icon only G. which I believe is for GPRS. I know At&t 3g wont work but i thought @ least edge would
I tried the stock rom and the elite Rom still same issue
I have manually input the media net settings
wap.cingular
[email protected]
CINGULAR1
the isp.cingular setting wont work for me
Im located in 21117 zip if that helps & my blackjack gets a 3g signal and my Iphone gets the Edge signal from same location
GPRS is hella slow DSL reports have me @ 39kbit/sec please help!

Are you sure EDGE is running the 1900Mhz frequency in that area? Your other phones may be locking onto 850Mhz which may support Edge, but 1900 may not.

Kaiser keeps switching from 3G to Edge

A friend of mine just purchased the Kaiser to be used on the at&t network. He lives in a 3G area in the USA and for some reason, his phone will not hold the 3G connection. It wants to switch to Edge. Is there a manual setting to stop this from happening or a new utility to enable/disable certain connection. Is this normal for 3G to do this. Any information I can pass on would be greatful.
Thanks
I think it's an indication that 2G is stronger than 3G in your area. My Kaiser always hold 3G connection all the time where I live. You can "manually" force 3G. Here is one the many ways to do it: on Windows Start menu, go to "Setting" then "Phone" (on the "Personal" tab), click "Band" tab, then use "WCDMA" for network type selection (default is "Auto")
Thanks for the help. I'll pass it on.
While the Kaiser is my first ppc type phone and I cannot claim to be expert I do think that this is a normal reaction of the phone to what networks are available.
I live in San Jose Ca. and must, perchance, move up and down the peninsula in the normal course of work and life.
I see my Kaiser switching from Edge to 3G to unnamed all up and down the peninsula. It is best for 3G in the cities and worse up in the hills -as one might expect. I also get the best 3G connections in the evenings and night vs. the daytime when, I assume, more 3G users are taking up bandwidth.
It is unfortunate that where I live is an Edge (during the daytime) area though I am paying for the 3G data plan.
3G issues with the TyTnII
Hello all:
I post on the AT&T HTC forumn and had this thread sent to me by another poster there.
I also have a TyTnII newly aquired from MobilePlanet on Weds. I am having the same issues with 3G. It briefly flashed the G icon on boot up then switches to Edge with all 5 bars. I've tried the manual mode fix, no luck. The wcdma gets no signal and the gsm goes back up to 5 bars same as auto.
Then theres the inability to register my serial # on HTC's EU site. Says SN is invalid... MP has had several reports of EU devices doing this.
I'm in the US, NorthEast NJ area. And in the middle of a known 3G area.
Bill
Can anyone help Bill out? How many of you CAN use 3G on the USA at&t network without a problem? He's trying to see if it's a setting issue or a phone issue. I'm not in a 3G area so I can't help him here.
Thanks

I get a 3g signal when I go into Philly (I live about 45 minutes outside the city) It holds it just fine as well. Is it possible you just have weak 3g coverage where you are? I actually shut off the 3g on my phone as I have no 3g coverage at work or at home and the 3g connection discharges the battery in a hury.
I'm on AT&T as well.
Oh - BTW - I also can't register my phone with the eClub either. I sent an Email to the HTC Webmaster but have not had any reply in 3 days. I'm not too confident in HTC's support.

Getting the H-icon on the MDA Vario III

I own the MDA Vario III and am very pleased with it. There is one thing however that I stil haven't been able to get working since the Vario II and that is the H icon.
What I want to know is if it is enabled on the Vario III. I know it is on the TyTN II as my brother has that and it showed the magic H icon. Have any (dutch) T-Mobile users here ever have the H-icon appear?
Is in the phone settings 3G net enabled?
Not sure what you mean by that.
3G is enabled as I am getting the 3G icon. What else should I check?
see this thread.
I'm not sure whether T-Mob controls the HSDPA over their network or whether it is solely controlled through a registry entry.
As of yet, the other HSDPA users on this forum haven't been so helpful as I've posted a few queries about HSDPA on a variety of areas, with limited success
HSDPA on T-Mobile NL is not in service yet, but should be available soon. I've only seen the H on my phone once in Dublin, Ireland with O2.
I get a H in UK but I have a feeling HSPDA might be officially setup by tariff. I am on W&W plus if that makes a difference

No, I am on WnW basic, and I get the "H" within london
I dont get it where I live (just outside london)
I did ask T-Mobile (via email)about HSDPA and capped data-rate
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) (Sometimes known as High-Speed Downlink Protocol Access) is a 3G mobile telephony protocol, which allows mobile networks to increase their data transfer speeds and capacity. T-Mobile currently support HSDPA speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps (Megabytes per second)
Access to HSDPA speeds is currently free on T-Mobile, however the customer will be charged based on the amount of data transferred (subject to Price plan and allowance)

though I worry aboute the "currently free" phrase ;-)

H? Oh dear... does someone wana tell him :/
I've been curious about this too. O2 doesn't have a 3G license, which is why they used the Jap technology i-mode (which as we know flopped). So where is the iPhone's 3G coming from? I think it's from '3', but I'm not 100%. So if you're not in a '3' coverage area I would guess this is why you don't reception on this band.

LOL (H) = HSPDA
HSPDA=7.5Mbps Approx making it a shed load faster than 3G
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity. Current HSDPA deployments support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbit/s. Further speed increases are available with HSPA+, which provides speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s downlink.

im sorry, i LOL'd when i read that.
I didn't even notice the H in his post LOL. Strange how he either gets GPRS or HSDPA though, and never any 3G.
yes this is strange - well at least it explains it. i put my 3 sim in and i get 3g straight away, oh well i can connect to internet anyhow so.... all is good
thanks for help guys

No 3G, HSDPA, or EDGE reception..only GPRS?

Hi guys as the title says I never receive any 3G, HSDPA, or EDGE connection on my O2 XDA Ignito...only thing I connect with is GPRS/GSM (i.e. the G icon shows in the taskbar)
I know I've turned off HSDPA connection in the menu, but why do I never get any 3G or EDGE connections?? I'm on the Orange UK and T-Mobile UK network...tried both and none give me anything except GPRS.
Anyone know what the issue might be? Could it be a hardware problem or is it more likely to do with the settings?
Cheers
have you considered the fact you dont live in a 3G area lol

lol yes but its not just my area...you can't be telling me I don't get any 3G throughout london city...?? I've also checked the orange and t-mobile website and they do have coverage in my area.
isnt it turned off?
Get navdavi commmanager and you can turn 3g on / off with it.
I think there is an option in settings somewhere too.
Turning off 3g turns off Edge/HSDPA too.

[Q] Give priority to HSDPA over EDGE

I'm using TMobile with my Note right now and they've rolled out HSDPA in my area, but I'm almost consistently connecting to their Edge network. Is there anyway to give priority to the HSDPA signal?
I've tried to use the RF Band Selection secret menu, but the code I've found (*#2263#) doesn't seem to work.
