Noob, here just wondering what the difference is between a soft reset and a hard reset. Please let me know.
I could be wrong
Soft reset = restarting the phone
Hard reset = reloading the software on the phone.
Something like that.
A hard reset will destructively destroy all unoriginal data on the ROM and return it to its original state, with default settings, files, etc.
Soft Reset: Restart the phone and doesn't affect software and data installed or added on the device
Hard Reset: Back to Factory settings - all data and apps not backed-up on your computer or on a memory card will be erased.
Be aware that in order to back up some apps before a hard reset, copying them on the memory card before the reset is in most cases not enough as most apps modify the phone registry as they are installed and used...so make sure to keep apps cabs backed up too.
is their an echo in here?

Quick question: Will hard resetting WM5 bring it back to its virgin state - as if I did a re-flashing? Or does it keep some reg. settings or files? I'm just concerned that some of the files or reg. keys installed by the patches will stay there after hard resetting...
A full reset, with formatting of storage and cleaning of the registry hive, will wipe the slate totally clean.
Hello Guys,
I did a hard reset my Diamond and installed on it Elite 2.0
I then noticed that anything I placed in the internal storage was not deleted after the hard reset.
Can someone explain this to me ?
what's the difference ?
where should I install the softwares I want ?
thanks a lot guys.
You can install software wherever you want - but some may not work properly after hard reset as it need registry keys etc ... . Internal Storage is not erased after hard reset. It`s because of lack of microdrive slot so you can make your backups to internal storage when are you going to do hard reset. If you want to clean Internal Storage you can do it from Settings menu.
And finally if you used search you could find all this info here as this was mentioned several times.
I already searched the forums and found a few threads of other people suddenly missing their internal memory. The only solution i found was installing some hotfix and then doing some sort of wipe. This was ment for one specific version of the Diamond and i don't which one i got.
Anyways i have an exchange sync with a policy to use a keylock. Somehow in my pocket it sometimes tries to unlock and fails, thus enforcing the exchange policy of wiping my device It happened twice btw, and i did find a registry hack to disable it - but that's not the point in this post.
Anyways I can't see my internal memory - only the 100Mb default storage. Both on the phone and on PC link - the full 4Gb is missing.
What should i do?
if it doesnt appear even after wiping which i presume you mean to be a hard reset, then first try flashing a stock ROM. If that still doesnt work then do a hard reset selecting volume up to format NAND flash (which is your internal storage).
Thanks Supersanj - i finally remembered i posted a question here and after almost 2 months i pulled myself together and did a hard nand reset That wasn't too hard and it seems it solved the problem
Just a quick one - going to do a factory reset as I've installed Froyo and I think it would help a few small problems I've had - will the data on the internal SD get wiped with his?
Not sure about going through menu or three button menu but using #*272* definitely wiped mine. Sadly my SMS backups were on there as well as pictures I wanted to keep.
Cheers, I'll make a backup before going ahead.
I have an idea to move the Anti-Thief to ROM than keeping it in Phone Memory.
Even a hard reset won't remove it.
But I couldn't manage to move the Data of Anti-Thief to ROM.
Hard reset remove all the Data like Sim number, Gmail attached email address.
I tried it with Android Lost.
Anyway to implement it in better way?
