SOrry if this is a stupid question but I was just hoping that someone can point me in the right direction and I would have looked through the forum but I just feel like with so many ROMs that I would have just got lost and confused.
So lately my Xperia has been bugging me frustrating me a whole lot so I was planning on flashing my first ROM and maybe I'll find something that gives me less trouble. So far it seems like Touch-It is the way to go because it is pretty legit. However I don't care much for touchflo so I am actually more interested in maybe trying a windows 6.5 rom and using SPB mobile shell 3.0.
So which ROM would be the absolute best for me. Panels are alright but I can do without them because I really don't change between them often, its too slow and I would rather Use ONE interface that I like a lot. I want speed because I am impatient. Don't want excessive bugs or issues. What is the best ROM to download in your opinion right now for Windows 6.5?
Or if you think you have another ROM suggestion go ahead and shoot. Oh, and please don't bash on me. I just want to have my xperia work well, I don't mean to annoy anybody

Ok, so I had the choice between the iPhone and the X1, and I think the X1 would we better for me as I would be able to flash custom roms on it and fix mos t of the lag. I'm about to order the X1 off of ebay. I live in the US and there at&t doesn't carry the X1 AFAIK (correct me if I'm wrong). Now, I have a bunch of questions regarding ROMs and other things.
Would I have to update my X1 before installing a custom ROM or would it come updated?
On average, how long would the battery last?
I heard it's supposed to have like 6 days standby time.
What are the risks of flashing a custom ROM?
I heard that Hard-SPL-ing it could "brick" your phone. I also heard that even after Hard-SPL, if you flash a custom ROM wrong or one that's messed up you could render your phone useless forever. If this is true, what are the precautions I should take before flashing my ROM (I plan to do it when I first get my phone, as I know it's laggy. I'm also running windows 7 so please tell me if I need to run XP or Vista for it to work)
Is there a way to fix a bricked phone?
What are some really good apps that enhance the experience of the X1? Such as maybe a volume enhancer? (as the sound is very low from what I know)
I already know of some, like Opera Mini, Touchflo 3d (comes with custom ROMs AFAIK) and Sbp mobile shell.
Even after flashing a custom ROM like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524043 , would it still be laggy when changing panels or while loading apps?
Does the case scratch easily? Is it necessary for me to buy a case if I don't want it to be all scratched up?
Do cab files that work on WM 6.1 also work on WM 6.5? Because I saw this: http://xperiancers.com/2009/04/22/how-to-use-your-xperia-x1-a-little-guide-to-windows-mobile/ , and I was wondering if the speed ups mentioned in that post work with WM 6.5?
If you guys think I'm making a bad decision by not buying the iPhone, please let me know what you think
Do you guys know if at&t offers the X1 so I can get a better deal? because I'm going to switch from T-Mobile to at&t very soon. (I live in the US)
Is there a way to make the phone landscape without a sliding the keyboard? Because AFAIK the Xperia lacks an accelerometer.?
I heard you can assign "shortcuts" or something to quickly switch from landscape to portrait. Need more info. on this.
Is it possible to Hard-SPL and flash a custom rom to ANY Xpeira? Like are there any that are "blocked" where you can't Hard-SPL it?
Thanks in advance.

You firmware version can not be verified until you verify it yourself DUH. What a dumb question. Your ROM IS YOUR VERSION. If you update the phone with the latest official ROM, and then flash a different ROM than you obviously lose the official ROM so update is pointless.
Phone lasts 3 days on standby now. It lasts 4-5 hours on usage.
No risks at all. But if you're not good at doing simple stuff such as flashing ROM don't get into it. PLEASE! It took me 24 hours NON STOP too help some clueless person flash his NIKE because he just kept doing it wrong and yet I gave him straightforward and in depth instructions. Other than that, flashing your from or updating your phone with an official ROM will delete all personal data.
If hard spl bricked your phone than you're obviously doing something wrong. If it bricked your phone, the developers wouldn't even release hard spl....
I won't suggest any Apps.
Yes, CAB files work on 6.5.
Don't get an iPhone. Don't get Xperia. Touch Pro2 is much better (especially they keyboard).
ATT does not offer. But you can buy the American version that works well on ATT's 3G.
Since when does a phone need an accelerometer to rotate? And yes you can use programs to rotate the screen (even tho accelerometer is not necessay....i guess you have absolutely no idea what an accelerometer is). But yes you can assign shortcuts or modify physical buttons. One program for example is AEBPlus.
All Xperia's can be hard spl'd.

No you can flash it with a custom rom whenever you like.
On average, how long would the battery last?
On average with a fair bit of wifi usage it'll last 3-4 days, less with constant voice usage.
I heard it's supposed to have like 6 days standby time.
Probably 6 days without using it

To be honest i've flashed loads of phones and even if it bricks it temporarily you can always reflash it. Windows 7 makes no difference if you flash from the memory card.
Is there a way to fix a bricked phone?
I would guess if this happens you can always reflash the standard rom, however I have no experiance with this.
What are some really good apps that enhance the experience of the X1? Such as maybe a volume enhancer? (as the sound is very low from what I know)
I've got no problems with the volume but there are probably volume increasers out there.
The trick with reflashing is going for the best rom for you. I use the bare version of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509891. However with most roms you will loose the panels but honestly I dont think that its much of a sacrifice.
Does the case scratch easily? Is it necessary for me to buy a case if I don't want it to be all scratched up?
No in my experience the case is pretty tough but if you put it in the same pocket as your keys bits of the sony logo will come off. Having said that the build quality is miles better than any other phone with a similar spec.

All cabs i've installed have worked on 6.5 fine.
If you guys think I'm making a bad decision by not buying the iPhone, please let me know what you think
The iphone is a good bit of kit but it depends on what you want to use it for. If you want a replacement mp3 player and phone and you like itunes the the iphone is probably best for you. If you prefer a phone that you can customise use any software on or simply prefer not to be locked to apple the go for the X1. You must bare in mind though that unless you need to get a new phone now there are a load of new winmo phones about to come out with better specs.
Do you guys know if at&t offers the X1 so I can get a better deal? because I'm going to switch from T-Mobile to at&t very soon. (I live in the US)

Im fairly sure that you can set a button to change from portrait to landscape, at least there are with my old hermes.
Is it possible to Hard-SPL and flash a custom rom to ANY Xpeira? Like are there any that are "blocked" where you can't Hard-SPL it?
As far as I know there is no way that a winmo phone can be "locked" to prevent it from being flashed.
Thanks in advance.

I've just remembered a good video guide to flash your rom is here if your still curious: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
Thanks a lot for your input guys, it really helped. One last thing. When people say that Manila is "integrated" with WinMo, does that mean that Manila acts as a separate panel (like I've seen in many videos) or is there something I'm missing?
"Does the case scratch easily? Is it necessary for me to buy a case if I don't want it to be all scratched up?"
The brushed metal backside battery cover on my black Xperia started picking scratches and metal base started showing through the edges almost within a week of normal usage. A crack on the casing also developed within a month. After just a month of using my X1 carefully, it looks like a year old worn and torn down 50 cent phone. Stay away from X1... HTC Pro2 is a much better deal...
I would get the iphone. I'm seriously considering the iphone as the sony ericsson repair team are useless.

My two cents:
Flashing a ROM deletes all previous installs/updates/whatever.
Normal use - 1 day.
Heavy use - 4 hours.
Minimal to non-existent.
No.
RAFO lol.
Depends on the ROM, but it will never be perfectly smooth.
Just like any other phone.
Yes.
Depends on what you need. If you need a useless outdated device to show off infront of your friends - getbn the iCrap.
If you want a pocket computer - get the X1.
Also, Touch Pro 2 IS NOT better than the X1. I made a thread about in their forum. Search for it. It is called "Touch Pro 2 sucks. Here is why.". I would put a link, but I'm posting this from my X1 and I'm too lazy to do it lol.
I don't know.
Yes, you can map a button to do it.
Yes.

With newer smartphone models on the horizon, I don't know how wise a move it would be to buy an X1 now unless it's a really good deal. My X1 is holding up fine for my needs now, but it's not as polished UI wise as I would want it to be. Since I don't understand a thing about ROM cooking and the fact that I'm using Mac's keeps me on my stock ROM (though once updated on a Windows computer), but that's not something I'm necessarily unhappy about. Sure, I'm curious about all the ROM's out there and different UI's but I feel the phone is really stable now. I haven't had a crash for quite a while, which I feel is worth celebrating considering it's WinMo
This phone scratches WAY less than most smartphones, because it isn't made entirely of very cheap plastic...
HTC's other branded phones are pretty notorious for their cheap housing and they crack/scratch/break quite easily.
The three main UI overhauls are Manila (TF3D), SPB Mobile Shell and PointUI Home 2. There's a billion cabs you can skin different things with, so no point in gathering this information until after you have a ROM installed, since different ROMs come with different things installed already.
i have an X1 here in the states on AT&T and it works great. they support it fine.

well you answered your own problem right there. the X1 has literally unlimited UI options and fine tuning capabilities. i'll be the first to admit the stock UI leaves a lot to be desired, but anyone can get it to work/look exactly like what they want with a little bit of reading
Hmm, well I HAVE considered other smartphones. I've had a Nokia N73 with Symbian S60th edition for like 2 years now (great OS, just bored of it), so I don't really think I'd want another Symbian phone like the Nokia N97. I've also never used WinMo before, and I know it's not really that good (which is why there's touchflo and custom roms ) , but I also want to try something fresh and new. I've also considered the HTC Touch Pro 2, but At&t doesn't offer it and it's like 700 bucks unlocked when I could get the xperia for like 450 bucks unlocked (ebay). Other than that I really dont know what other phone I could consider buying.
Thanks for all these replies guys. I didn't really expect this many.

I'd be happy to read a noob-friendly tutorial for Mac users if you could direct me to one. But since I haven't seen either from the day of purchase, I'm keeping with my opinion for now.
Having the ability to mod/customize doesn't take away that the stock Winmo and SE UI is shoddy though. If it were good in the first place it wouldn't need/inspire customizing.
AT&T will offer the TP2, but yeah that phone is not cheap, even with subsidies + rebates...
I got my Xperia X1a used for $400 and works great. I hate how cheap the HTC branded phones feel...
Would I have to update my X1 before installing a custom ROM or would it come updated? You have to install Hard-SPL which is very easy.
On average, how long would the battery last?
I use mine pretty much all day (music, video, calls etc) and it lasts for about 24hrs until it needs a charge.
What are the risks of flashing a custom ROM?
It's very easy just read the tutorial thread.
What are some really good apps that enhance the experience of the X1? Such as maybe a volume enhancer? (as the sound is very low from what I know) The volume really isn't that bad, It's no 5800 although it gets the job done.
Does the case scratch easily? Is it necessary for me to buy a case if I don't want it to be all scratched up? If you treat your things with care you won't have any problem.
If you guys think I'm making a bad decision by not buying the iPhone, please let me know what you think I bought an X1 about a week ago and it's great although I suggest you try it out perhaps at the store or a friends to see if you like it.

Please refrain from calling someone a liar whoever you are. I am only saying what is a fact with my phone. I have been very very careful with its use and protection. Just beacuse you are lucky to not have a bad experience with X1 doesnot qualify you to suggest others are telling lies. I have been using high end mobile phones even before you were born and i know what i am talking about. Dont misguide users with your baseless judgements.

Hehehehe... you're inviting yourself to be flamed... A bit of search would have given you answers. Check out the sticky's related to tweaks. I would recommend installing Xperia Tweak or some other applications like Pocket Toolman and SKTools etc that can let you make changes to your system settings.
can some one recomend a rom for speed and reliability thats stripped down but still has most features of new wm6.5 packages but not bothered about manilla or titanium... the plan is to run a very fast reliable rom then install all the apps i like and have spb mobile shel 3.5 as the ui i think this will make the smoothest and eye candy combo ava'bke for tp2.
anyone come in with any input please! discussion...

look at josh perfect black, hey have a stript version and i.m use the full one and that one is really fast
well i am goin 2 try that! and install the missing apps i need thats been stripped out.
what makes a device faster surley it dont matter how many apps are installed i am sure the amount of services running in the back ground are though.
i will be interested to see how a stripped rom using nothing but spb shell 3.5 runs compaired to manilla and titanium. idealy i think 6.1 is fater than 6.5 so maybe will use 6.1 rom as the base as 6.5 holds no other features imo other than a horrible start menu and a few different layouts in the settings etc.
i want services like face book twitter msn hotmail/live and location and weather on all the time but any other service can be stopped / took out if the device will still work with out it and not limit me to installing any future apps.
why dont chefs cook in spb shell and lose the htc crap ( its a hardware company imo and a damn good one best mobile hardware out there) all being let down by the aplications and reliability.
ff topic
look at hd2 specs they blow all others away yet when ever some one uses our fone or we show are mates something low and behold it will make u look a prick and freeze or not do what it should have done anyone else feel this lol!
dont get me wrong i am a hard core winmo guy and allways will be but part of me is wanting an iphone 3gs as a "2nd" fone for games and social front cause winmo is lagging behind.. there emulators work brillantly so do there gps apps now they hav tomtom and even sky sports and a banking app from natwest grrr whats going on! lol

SPB software is not free and sold at retail, if chefs were to cook software like this in, it would open up a massive can of worms.
Chefs respect (or should) the intellectual property of others, so this will never happen.
and htc and microsoft are free and open to be copied changed and edited? its all a grey area but i agree we dont want to be atracting the wrong attention indeed. like microsoft spokes person said its up the the manufactures and htc said about the chefs out there we cant live with them and we cant live with out them meaning they know that cooked roms sell there devices cause neither of them can get it rite in the first place... spb i suppose ont deserve to be dragged in/ ripped off cause like you say there a seperate entity// maybe someone can show us how to cook it our selves for ppl that own the software?
you can flash a lite rom without manila and htc staff, then install spb software or others by yourself
I HIGHLY recommend The Cell Series V7. Fast and looks the best!
Valkyrie's ROMS are excellent
Any ROM in here is a good choice!
PS: How will define eye candy and speed? If you can define that two, then suggesting a suitable ROM might be easy...

very insightful
I prefer the NRGZ28 ROMS.
No, I prefer the Deepshining.
Well, I prefer the Valkyrie.
I think the Cell series are the best.
How about Jackos, Twopumpchump, Josh's, LeoPard, Mccune, AthineOS, Aruppenthal, Bhar's, Da_G, daxy, Sergio, eras2r, ...
Stop asking which is best. It is a matter of opinion and need. And the answer is different for us all or we would just have the Miscrosft version and xda wouldn't be needed. Try them until you find what you are looking for, or cook your own.
Please close this thread and those like it.
Hi all,
I know we've got some great cooks here, and so I'm hoping one of them will help! I have been playing with ROMs since I got my Tilt2 (ATT) and I have been pretty happy with some of them, yet still not quite completely satisfied. Some come close to what I want, but all seem somewhat finicky with my ATT phone (my wife has refused to let me play with her Verizon Touch Pro 2, something about me breaking it
For me, the holy grail of ROMs for this phone would be:
A fast, Manila 2.5+, Windows 6.5 (or 6.5.3, if its rock solid) ROM with no frills or cooked in software.
A simple user interface, something normal but snazzy looking. If it could be like the original Verizon one that'd be awesome, if not the normal HTC would be fine.
Basically, I want a stripped down speedy version of the normal HTC look, but haven't been able to find it. I MIGHT be able to learn how to cook my own, but cannot currently spare the time as I'm in grad school.
If anyone could help, that would be AWESOME!
if u dontmind trying... try DA_G rom... its built for AT&T so your keyboard will work just fine its 28206 built and lite... alot of rom and ram space... no manila 2.5 so i was using SPB mobile Shell Pro...
Hi,
I am a newbie when it comes to smartphones and the rest. And this is exactly why I'd like to know what is/are the best ROM(s) on Touch Pro 2.
I'm currently using Windows Mobile 6.5.
The criteria should be:
- Visual effects
- Responsiveness (speed)
- Ease of use
- Minimal usage of the RAM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
this coming also from a newbie, which is using this ROM for a couple of months now. good luck!
There is no "best" ROM. It depends on your individual needs and preferences. Many people here generally frown upon questions like this, because its an insult to the hard work that the chefs do to create the custom ROMs, to recommend one over the other.
At the risk of contradicting myself a bit, I know the choice can be overwhelming for n00bs. So I will just briefly mention my personal experience. I used Energy for a long time, tried Deep Shining, and simplicity is my current favorite. But that doesn't mean that other ROMs are not great also. Valkyrie and Jackos also get lots of good response on these forums.
Thank you very much! I'll read through right away!!!
Oops! I didn't know I was trespassing. However, thank you for understanding me. I'll further my research using the names of ROMs you've given me. Thank you once again!
The fastest ROM I've ever tried was OndraSter's TouchFlo 3D ROM. Its probably the fastest ROM for the TP2.

Hi,
I am a newbie when it comes to smartphones and the rest. And this is exactly why I'd like to know what is/are the best ROM(s) on Touch Pro 2.
I'm currently using Windows Mobile 6.5.
The criteria should be:
- Visual effects
- Responsiveness (speed)
- Ease of use
- Minimal usage of the RAM

Try the JackOS ROM, i'm a fan! It's stable as a rock and he added OCT, so your phone is overclocked to 710Mhz by default.
He is a perfectionist as he wants to minimize memory leaks (read: low mem usage).
I can really recommend his roms
Grtz,

I too am new to Windows Mobile and found my ATT Tilt 2 a bit slow.
I've HardSPLed my phone, loaded all the different ROMS from NRG and after running them for quite some time, and screwing with them found that there are things left out that only the stock ROM provides....as in:
GPS
keyboard functions even after loading the keyboard fix it will not retrack.
Widgets that go missing after you have set them up....
Little things.....
I went back to the upgraded ROM form HTC.
I would suggest the same....
There's crudscraper which will free up some space and a couple of cabs that will give you 16 quick links and contacts but.......
I would suggest loading the basic HTC rom and purchasing SPB Shell.
Quite frankly, IT WORKS.
Later....
Go find the ROMs Wildchild builds. They are like stock ROMs but MUCH MUCH more stable and fast. Lean and mean. Link in my sig.
My 2 cents. Tried many over extended period of time from:
- simplest eras2r (but one of the most solid-like-a-rock with a good battery and performance) to
- Energy's huge variety of choices
- Wild Child's
- Simplicity's (was not very simple for me, had a couple of stability issues)
- etc. etc. etc.
Has never had a chance to actually try Jackos's. Just now tried Jackos's full s2 ROM. Flying, tons of storage and program memory, right programs, right layout for me. If this baby is stable, not sure will ever look for something else.
My personal opinion go with latest Jackos ROM, OndraSter did also meke some good ones, but no sense ...
I guess there really isnt too much to say anymore but just to try them all... The only thing i do suggest is making sure you do the "task 29" ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191) between flashes just so u know ur getting the most purity from all ur roms. Different roms offer different things and as u go through there post the objectives of the roms. Another thing i suggest you try is, getting a rom like Jackos S2, disabling sence from the options and trying the android prj. But at the end of the day u find the rom that fits u!
What ROM cooked with Maxsense would you suggest to a newbie like me?
