Got mine today and found a "secret" compartment in the box. On the bit that covers the phone there is a small tab. In here is two CD's one with a couple of Apps on it and the other is the quick start.
You've all probably found this with no problem as I know you lot are all smarty people, but I only found it hours after putting the box away

Well, one cd was a Trial of MS Office 2007, the other was the manual (in the Dutch version). Not very exciting...
As said, one CD had some M$ trial software and the other CD had the PDF manual ( I guess its cost saving since you view it on the PC rather than read a printed manual) and SPB GPRS monitor software. I had to register @ htcClub to get Sprite backup.
I hate the Diamond's box. It is hard to stack it somewhere upside down due to its odd shape... We bought two diamonds, one for my mom and one for me. When i was doing the setup for the 2 phones, my table were in such a big mess with all those stuff around...

The same here. What we seem to be missing with the Dutch version is the SPB GPRS monitor software. Although Sprite backup is available for download.
Maybe someone with another non-English version has an idea how to get the SPB GPRS monitor software?
Hi Guys, I don't know too much about the difference in phones, I know I love the HTC Trinity but, my Network is offering me a Nokia E71 as an free upgrade, is it worth it?
I tried to read a little about the Nokia E71 and it sounds good so far however, am I gonna be as happy as I am with my HTC Trinity, is there anything I am gonna miss? I will always be a part of this forum regardless of which phone I use.
its a NICE phone. I think it looks a bit gaudy, but the keyboard's nice. And i've developed an intense hatred of wm, so any cahnge is nice.

Hi fzzyrn, thanks for replying. It interest me what you said about WM, do you think Symbian OS would be any better before it is cooked? Can you bake/cook Symbian ROM? Hmmmmmmmmmn, I am here doing some serious thinking.
no idea about the rom cooking, but it doesn't seem likely. You see, alot of higher end nokia users are businesspeople, and nokia is generally pretty good about software optimization.
i dont like that i have to install a whole bunch of software to get my phone the way that i want it when the e71 (or e61i in my case) already comes with pretty much everything that i use. Also, i've found touchscreen wm to be a bit difficult to use.
the question is, what do i use?
The answer- calender, alarm clock, phone, contacts (alot of them), sms, email.
i wont say the wm isn't "fun", but for the kind of stuff i do, its not particularly easy to use, and i get impatient waiting for the slide keyboard to change screen orientation.
What netowrk you on, if you haggle a bit, you might be able to get the Diamond if they offer it.
I used UIQ (so symbian, but not exactly S60) amd it was great. I had a P1i and it was touchscreen. It worked fine for what I wanted, but was a bit slow in opening things.
Overall, for calendar, contacts email, the small things symbian is ok, for word, excel, long periods internet browsing, stick with wm

LOL, I wanted to take it, the network sales rep made it seems like the best thing since slice bread. I will take it then, to be honest i wanted to wait a bit longer to see if they'll carry the Diamond. I don't think Three UK is gonna carry the diamond anytime soon.
From what I've heard, they are best suited for Symbian Operated Phones. My Trinity is actually from Orange (got it from my wife, she had issues with the touchscreen) but i unlocked it and now I am using it on 3 uk.
The TYTNII is the only wm phone they carry and I heard it isn't going too well on the network.
Oh well, I wanted a diamond but a E71 will work just fine I guess. I use my phone mostly for business (email, contacts, calendar task, notes, etc.) I don't use the MS Office application that much, all that could wait untill i get to the Office. I do surf the web a lot though especially when I am out on site. I really appreciate the feedback on the subject
yep. go ahead and get it.
send me your trinity if you want hinthint.
Send me the E71 if you don't like it, hinthint.
I have more posts than he does hinthint.
REAL subtle.
Bump...I have more posts than above!
touche, galaxys. touche.
yet i have more posts per day.
Sorry guys, sorry to disappoint you all but my wife wants to have a go at the Trinity again. Sorry!
I am going to Order the Nokia sometimes this week and see how it goes, at least if i don't like it I can send back if it is under 14 days. I'll keep you posted.

if you get it for free, of course, take it.
using it is a different story. i used nokia for several years (symbian 60 and 80) but since i am used to WM and the forum here, no chance for nokia anymore (only for my wife)
I have another thought guys. Check this out, I can now switch network and go with o2, get an iphone or stick with 3 and get a Nokia E71 or a TyTnII.
The Nokia 71 is new, iphone 3G is new and the TyTnII is old, been out since 2006 I think. The iphone I would have to pay some money for but that unlimited data plan and hotspot is a bit interesting to me. It is getting a bit complex for me now.
what do you use your phone for?
if you're heavily into business and calender, stick with the e71
if you're a "birkenstock wearing, clove-smoking vegetarian hippie" (not my words, 500xp if you can identify origin), get the iphone. Actually if you listen to music pretty heavily and you don't mind the software keyboard, get the iphone.
DON'T get the kaiser. What with the age, the video drivers (the mobile division of ati closed down, its that bad...) and the size, its not particularly worth it.

I've been hearing that phrase since college and to be honest, I never knew where it came from. I was busy googling the phrase and still haven't found its origin, i give up, you are gonna have to do me a favor and tell me.
its a term that the Princeton Review uses to describe the most politically liberal schools and institutions.
There may be another origin, but this is the one that i picked it up from.

It would have to be one of them Ivy Leaguers huh?
I've put a entire twist in this phone hunting thing. I just happen to Call a certain network about their phones and plans and guess what? When I got off the phone to them, there is a diamond on it's way to me, will get it Tuesday. 700minutes, unlimited text, free htc diamond all for £30 a month. Did I mess uip or did i get a deal.
I was looking forward to the Nokia E71 but, the screen too small, got used to a bigger screen. The keys are too small, I kept hitting a few of them at ones. Other than that it is a great phone. Someone told me not to use the touchflo on the diamond and I'll be ok. Is that true?
Just been told by T-M that my Compact V that I ordered last Friday is not coming as it's out of stock. Also they want to pay £65+7 (upgrade+delivery) for Flex35 tariff while for the same monthly amount unlocked D2 is for free e.g. on mobilephonesdirect.co.uk (Combi30+w'n'w).
Is there any reason to wait for Compact V? Or there is just an aesthetic difference between the two?
Unlike the unlocked version directly from HTC the MDA Compact V will have some interesting additional software add-ons. TouchFlo3D will, like their older products, have a tab filled with widgets, for example for facebook and twitter.
In addition the device will come with a 2 GB microSD card and a 7 day trial of the CoPilot GPS navigation software, with the first 10,000 customers to register getting a free 18-month subscription to the navigation service.
Compliments of wmpoweruser dot com.
Google, who knew?

I got a case with the D2.
the most notable difference would be the exterior. The compact V has a rounded bottom, and the dimensions all around are slightly different. This made me go for the original TD2, to find a cradle and car holder more easily.

This appears to be the killer flaw in the Compact V design - they have fitted a rubber cover over the connector at the bottom so it cannot slide directly into a car holder. Apparently there are gaps either side of the connector which are exposed if you remove the rubber cover so this isn't a practical option either.
Does anyone actually know how you get the 18 months free on co-pilot working ? Mine just seems to have 7 days free !

I've been on the phone about this several times.
Noone at t-mobile will admit to this offer ... they say I have to speak o co-pilot ...
Then all co-pilot people say they don't know about it and I have to speak to t-mobile.
Going round in circles.
If I can get the postcodes in TomTom working I'll be happy!!!!!

You have to of taken an 18 month contract to recieve the free Co-pilot. The Press release is on the T-mobile website. Goto this link - http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/about-t-mobile/media-centre/ and look for the one titled "The Fifth Element".
It explains it in there, so T-mobile have no excusses!!!

P.S If anyone has recieved the free Co-Pilot on a 12 month contract and are on Friends And Family deal then please let me know. Because I can then argue my case to get it!!!
Difference:
There seems to be an issue with changing left softkey of MDA V. Entry of path will be ignored.

To be honest I have tried the trial of Co-Pilot and far prefer TomTom. I just cannot get the postcodes in TomTom to work (even after applying the postcodes 'fix').
D2 has no usb cover on the bottom, DV has a clip in cover.
D2 has more camera options than the DV.
DV has useless tabs on TF3D like widgets and TV and Video....they do nothing but direct you to the tmobile homepage. You could do the same thing by clicking Internet. I think on the D2 they have Camera and something else as a tab?
DV has no facebook intergration available.
D2 is better at handling downloaded software
DV comes with a 2GB card (1.5 GB is taken up with the copilot trial software)
D2 comes with no card in the box
DV has no HTC branding whatsoever apart from the battery.
DV has no flippy clock and the home screen doesnt flip up like the D2
I think the curvy look of the Compact V is much better looking than the boxy D2. Only annoying thing is the Tmobile ROM with its pink theme and useless tabs. But I like the speed of the ROM. It is very snappy. I wonder whether its worth flashing as I want to get rid of the Tmobile crap but I really dont want to mess the speed after flashing ROM. Anyone already flashed any ROM could comment>?
update on the copilot offer - spoke to T-mobile a few times and eventually told to speak to ALK Services, the makers of Copilot. THey told me that YES, Copilot live is to be offered on an 18 month subscription BUT this offer starts on 8 July 2009. I've just arranged to return my newly acquired TD2 (on their 7 day return policy) with a view to re-ordering in a couple of weeks

I've flashed to a custom rom from that pink T-Mobile nonsense and it works a treat. I did the same with my compact iv. Just make sure that you follow all the instructions of our esteemed members on the forum if you are unfamiliar with flashing to a new rom.
The handset now runs quicker and takes advantage of the all of the features HTC intended ( + a few extras thanks to the chefs !).
Hope that helps,
mickey
Thats good to know.
What rom did you use?

I flashed my ROM the day that I got my phone, yes the Compact V T-Mobile ROM was fast, faster then my custom Duty ROM on Diamond 1.but the newer Rom is faster still. I went for Tom Topaz WM6.1 for now, will look again in a month or so to see if there is something better out.
Out of interest, has anyone got the G sensor to work when viewing pictures, it worked on the original Diamond but not on the Compact V.
Also has anyone got Opera text to reflow if zooming with the zoom bar?

Dear Phone,
I feel privledged to know you... People call you many names like Kaiser, 8925, Tytn II, Vario III, and many others, but you will always be my Tilt. I remember when I first held you in my hand about 2 years ago.. You just "felt right" on my palm. You were very flashy and new... You had a QWERTY slide out keyboard that the buttons were big enough for my "man hands" (unlike your predicessor, my HP iPaq). But at the same time, with your keyboard sled in, you fit so nicely in my pocket.. (Screen facing into my thigh of course to protect your screen)
I remember our first vacation together to Florida from Wisconsin, where you told me right where to go using TomTom... Every turn, and you even managed to work where I had no cellular signal in the Mountians.. And I did not even need to buy you an external GPS "puck".. You did it all yourself without any outside help. When I was low on gasoline, you knew right where I needed to drive to.. When we stopped at motels that had free Wifi, you helped me check and reply to emails, and even IM people on yahoo and aim.. Then when we finally got to Florida, you were the first thing in my hand to call everyone to tell them the great news... You were there at Disney world to snap a quick picture of the family and the fun we had there... and even told me what the weather had in stock for me each day..
When I was at work you were with me... If I had to kill some time, or were just bored, we could play Ka-Glom or Call of Duty to pass the time.. And don't forget the time we played with your emulators.. There was more than once while waiting for appointments in offices and such that there was a crowd that formed aroudn us while we played Super Mario Bros 3 or some SNES game at full speed... You would never let me get bored.
If I needed some information, you surfed the internet like no other before.. I could choose whatever browser I was in the mood for, Skyfire, IE, and others... People would have their iPhones and such, but they had nothing on you... You has a 16gb storage card so you could keep up.. But your internal browser was compatible with orb so I could also access ANY of my 300 additional GB of movies, TV shows, music, and whatever else I had on my home computer... We used to love to play the game "Anything your phone can do, mine can do better". And when I just wanted to sit back and watch a movie, you screen would tilt up to the perfect angle for me to set down you down on the table and watch... And with my stereo bluetooth Motorola S9 earphones you came through loud and clear over distracting background noises!
There were rough times too... I flirted more than once with another... We can not forget when I set you aside and was seen out another.,.. But I always came home to you and learned my lesson... My son even fell in love with you and had to go otu and get one just like you as well... You may have aged some over time.. the shiney metallic layer on some of your front buttons may have flaked off... You may not be the newest and latest that is out there... But I know you are the best... You are the one that has stuck by me for these few years, and I hope many more. I know others have long since abandoned you for a Fuze or whatever the current flavor of the month is, but I will be with you until the end..... Or until I can afford a Touch Pro 2 (just kidding, sort of)... Thank you Tilt for all your hard work... I would not be the same without you..
You proud owner,
Todd in Wisconsin USA
This is so heart touching that I must say goodbye to my trusty 8525 and also follow the call of the Tilt. I want to feel this experience too.I need the GPS security and the friendship on the open road of Mr. T or Ozzy's voice leading me along the way. I must have the Tilt.
I think you will be happy with it.. and now with Tilts being "old" their prices are very affordable for most people.. But personally I prefer "C3PO" as my trusted voice on the road... He sounds rather refined and always calls me "Master".. But seriously.. For me, the Tilt is the best phone ever.. Since getting a tilt I have gotten : a HTC Touch Cruise, a LG Incite, and one or 2 others.. I always came back to the Tilt within a week or so... Sure, there is no g-sensor or FM radio.. but the g-sensor is cool, but nothing that is really that functional.. and with unlimited internet, you can stream most radio stations (even XM/Sirius stations if you have a subscription).. And the tilting screen.. Most people, even other Tilt users wil say it is sort of cool, but not that useful... But wait until you get used to it (assuming you take advantage of watching video on it)... hacong one that just lays flat on the screen will not be acceptable after that... I truely beleive it is the best phone ever...
ever since i got mine from a second hand store i have fallen in love with it. It is hands down the best phone I have ever used. I only paid 200 for it and once I learned how to put new roms on it my phone had a life that I had not know before. Battery life is the only issue I really have with this phone and even that I am willing to put up with just beause I love this phone that much. I recommend anyone who is serious about their phone get one of these it has made my experience the best I've ever had.

try an iPhone and you will **** your pants.
See, for me, the Kaiser was an enormous disappointment. It's an ever-so-slightly better phone (you know, making phone calls) than my Apache, but everything else about it was worse. The hype machine said Kaiser would solve all my problems, but in the end, it was pretty much the same, but slower (damn, you, AT&T).
Now that my Kaiser's given out on me (I'm running on a loaner Kaiser ATM), I'm VERY EAGERLY anticipating my Touch Pro 2 coming to replace it when AT&T finally gets their act together.

The iphone is fast but it lacks customization, and the UI isn't as informational, functional or productive as windows mobile 6.5. I don't want icons with side scrolling pages... but large text scrolling down..and being able to customize the UI within the OS. Windows might be lacking in speed and in feel but I think they got down the hard part down 1st in the mobile phone/device..once they mimic iphones speed and overall feel..its pretty much done for apple.

Wow... How did my love letter to my tilt become an iphone topic? *cough TRAITORS cough*
The original reason for this thread was to see if anyone else would share their fond memories of their Kaiser.... So, anyone want to share?
Dancing with the devil
My friends,
I have to say when I saw this topic I too thought things in Wisconsin must be direly dull. But I have to say, The Tilt was a revelation for me. For the past two years, I have used and loved my Tilt. I have enjoyed trying multiple renditions of WM6.X and have enjoyed bricking my phone on more than one occasion. But trouble's a-brewing. I got a new Itouch for my birthday and have to say I am enchanted with all that it can do. Now when you add in the thought of being able to make phone calls out of the same device; well, I'm strapping on a pair of Depends in preperation of ****ting my pants.
Though you all may deny it, I know that you have all gone to an AT&T store and played extensively with an Iphone. I have too. And now that I near the end of my contractual agreement with AT&T, I find that I am duly ready to UPGRADE to an Iphone. I know that some people fell out of there rolling-chair when I said upgrade, but the intuitive-ness of the device is undeniable. It knows me as only a lover could. Will I miss the WM world? Absolutely. But I have to beleive that there are wonderful forums for the Iphone just as there has been for the Kaiser and the Hermes and the Raphael.
So watch out clean pair of underoos, i am preparing for a true colon-blow! Soon I will have an Iphone and will retire my Tilt to the top shelf of my tech-storage closet; never to see the light of day again.
Good-bye my friend.
you are da man bro
you da man bro. my Tilt was broken for 2 months..hadda cracked screen..i gotta replacement screen from Hong Kong for $25 and replaced it myself and now we are back in action. reading your post brought back sweet memories of my Tilt and I...i can't wait to see where I take this baby next. I live in Milwaukee and this tiny city just wasn't the same without my Tilt.

You mean "dumbed-down" like iPhone
Regarding the previous post of yours:
Did you **** in your pants because you couldn't copy'and'paste, didn't have 3G, didn't have MMS, the only "software" you can use on your iPhone are webkit applets for the browser, and so on?
(I know it got 3G and finally cut'n'paste this year, but that's about all that has changed since I "****ted in my pants" when I discovered how stupid I was to waste my money on such castrated dumbphone )
I am actually fed up of everyone raving about the 'new windows phone'. I know its a good thing it just starting to bug me a little. All I hear my friends saying now is OMG I want a windows phone! And Im just there thinking I've had one for the last 6 months! They've been around for years! Theres nothing new!
Atleast the ad campaign in working though!
Anyone else fed of people thinking windows mobile's are new?
i agree mike, theres a lot more apps for winmo than there is for apple iphone
but the advertising hasnt let the people know
i myself am the only person at work with one of these phones (touch hd)
and now both my supervisor and his boss want winmophones
A worry for me now is everyone will expect them to be a computer and then this forum will slowly fill up with stupid morons trying load XP on it.
As for mike's point about advertising that is so true. If Microsoft did advertise (or Htc) then they would sell 10x more because 'Windows' is on there.
Haha! Agreed 200% with everything said so far.
Here is one for the MEGA ANNOYING "there's an app for that" adds:

Too late for the morons part. We saw that when the Tilt came out and they basically gave it away for free. Using a 'Windows Phone' is really quite a different experience and these phones are light years away from being idiot proof. That's why I love them.
anyone else seen this yet

Windows phone ad imo its really really odd...
Saw it in the uk last night, without the at&t bit at the end

Hadn't seen it but don't think it's odd infact a advert that doesn't go we can do this, we can do that and still gets the point across
Just good to see advertising as it's long awaited.
Well windows phone is light years ahead of the so called I-Prone ... even a win mo released around 05 can beat the I-Prone.... and the one thing that I-Prone can never give is the customization that we get from win mo... we can select the brand the ram, processor, screen size, design but with I-Prone there's no specialty....
And i think they should also have a app to show different screen resolutions or may be different brand name LOL...
Definately, thats all I hear WINDOWS PHONE WINDOWS PHONE
Someone was telling me about the 'windows phone' about 1 hour ago, and pulled out my Touch HD, got onto the settings menu and showed him device information - Windows Professional 6.1 lol.
I guess with the TouchFLO 2 people are thinking it is some other software.
Talking to an iPhone owning friend yesterday "Windows is getting into mobile phones now" he said. I nearly fell off my chair laughing!

Thats a very good advert!! Now they need to put it up on TV!!
i dont know about you all but in Latvia Iphone was advertised on TV , nokia also, but no sign of HTC!! I didnt knew about HTC until the end of 2008, when I wanted to buy a Dell Axim, but my dads cousin suggested HTC cause theyre good(he works with computers and follows the news about technology)- thats how I got familiar with the name HTC, and bought myself a Touch HD!! Only thing Im dissapointed about is- when I bought Touch HD I didnt knew about SE X1- if I would have known then it would be a much harder choice for me (between HD and X1, not HD and Touch Pro) But still - Im happy with HD

I just seen it earlier on UK TV, went to youtube to find it
Finally when i harp on to people about HTC they will know what i'm talking about
The night before last, my wife and I were watching T.V. and the new HTC commercial (the one showing the Hero, but without saying what model or service) came on and she said, "Wow, that's cool. Too bad it's only for Sprint." I said, "No, HTC phones are available for most carriers." She replied, "No, it just said 'Sprint'." I answered, "That's the HTC Hero, and it's available through Sprint. Other HTC phones are available on other carriers." She asked, "Then why don't you have one?" I picked up my Imagio and showed her where it says "HTC" on the back cover.
ETA: I've had WinMo phones since the XV6600 with WM2003
HTC phones have been out for ages now, but with this new advertising campaign and their new sense UI type handsets I think its going to quickly make it to the top. Ive been seeing more and more people on the street with HTC's and smart phones in general a good trend.
