I't since 3 das I'm testing .NET CF 3.5 on original ROM.
I installed it in this way:
download this and install the .cab into device (not internal storage):
http://rapidshare.com/files/74341832/NETCF_3.5_ppc_ce5.rar (thank you FAMAN)
the go to the registry in
HKLM - Software - Microsoft - .NETCompactFramework
and change as follows:
2.0.7045.00 -> set 0 (was 1)
3.5.7283.00 -> set 1 (was 0)
Soft reset
And now u have .NET CF 3.5 on your original ROM
Thanks, i will give it a try.
i am very curious on how much Speed difference would this make?
1) Will this overall increase the application startup speed?
2) Will this exhaust more memory than net 2.0?
Greatly appreciate it if you can shed some light on this.
thanks.
1) the feel is that of an increase of performace launching and executing programs.
2) the memory after a fresh start is 53.86 Mb (ROM: 1.37.408.3 ITA)

Does this mean it flashes it into ROM?
Did you notice any problems as a result of this upgrade?
Thank you for sharing
What? This means that you normally can not install CF 3.5 to diamond? Why? How is this possible? Isnt it a bug?
This just means that you tell WM 6.1 to use .NET 3.5 by default instead of 2.0
Both are still there.
thanks for yr hard work! I'm gonna give it a try!
Works finde on my O2 XDA Diamond. Thanks!
I used 'netcfcfg.cab' (attached) and did not bother going into registry.
Besides setting default .net version to use it can also define this per application.
erase 2.0?
some mentioned both version are still there after installing 3.5? Can I just delete 2.0? and how do I do it? thanks.
It takes alot of memory , even I installed it on "Internal Storage" , still it takes
abiut 2 Mega from internal memory.
I can't realize why the programers using .Net at all, and if they are using it, so they should use .Net comes with WM6.1 and not lame new .Net...

You can't delete 2.0 Since it's part of the WM...
I found out if you use netcfcfg.cab on your device you can choose what .net you want for each program.

I've been trying to install the .NET framework for my Tilt, and it keeps spitting out "installation unsuccessful". It installs fine on my computer, then it goes to install it to my phone via ActiveSync (Windows Mobile Device Center actually because I use Vista). The installation screen on my Tilt pops up saying it's installing, but the bar doesn't move at all, and after a few seconds it just says it's unsuccessful without giving a reason!
I'm using the stock ATT Tilt rom, 6.1 version. I haven't done anything special to it, so I have no idea why it wouldn't work...
Can anyone spare some sage wisdom as to why this won't install? I'm trying to use wmVista and it needs 3.5 to work .
Note: I downloaded the .NET 3.5 right from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en
Have you tried copying the NET CF3.5.cab directly to your Kaiser & then installing. The cab can be found in the installation folder on your PC or on this site if you do a search.
I've always installed from the cab file never from the PC installation so might be worth you trying it !
You might want to get the mobile version of .net 3.5...
http://frifor.com/download/IBI/NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.CAB
Download that to your memory card, then launch it with file explorer on your phone, and it should start to install all on its own. Install it to your device, not the media card, for quicker running .net 3.5, or if you want to save space install it to the media card, but it will run slower...
And FYI, the search function works very well, as well, if you had looked about 5 posts bellow this new one you created you would have seen a thread already dealing with this exact issue.

Ah, I saw that thread before posting but I assumed by his first post that his problem was different than mine. I just check it out again and saw the direct downloads for the cab file, so I'm gonna try that out. Thank you for your help!
(I'm a new poster, but I've been lurking around these boards for a while now looking for stuff for my Tilt)
Hopefully this works...
i installed .NET CF 3.5 on my device then after installing my camera is just plain black and doesnt show any picture.
problem solved!
- i installed Resco Registry Explorer and .NET compact framework 3.5 on my Kaiser
- opened resco registry and searched for the .NET CF
- disabled .NET CF 2.0 by changing value from 1 to 0
- then enable .NET CF 3.5 by changing value from 0 to 1
I had the same problem, used your link, it worked perfectly. THANKS!!!!

I recently updated my X1's firmware with the Sony Ericson Update Service. Since then I've been reinstalling everything. Only problem is, that for some reason I can no longer install Microsoft's .NET compact framework, which is required for some programs to run. Is anybody else having this problem, or know what to do about it?

I had the exactly the same problem after installing the RA3 rom update.
It always said that the .net framework cf installation unsuccessful when I tried to install using the .exe file downloaded from microsoft.
Alternatively, you can install the CAB file from your computer.
If you use windows, look in the folder:
program files>microsoft.net>SDK>compactframework>v3.5>windowsCE for the CAB file. I used this one, NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab, and it works. Now I can use a software that needs .net 3.5.
ps: if I'm not mistaken the .net CF 3.7 is a leaked version. Therefore, I prefer installing 3.5 to 3.7.

Thank you, that seems to be working.
.Net CF 4.0 is actually available with the MS Visual Studio 10.0 beta, but beware: the damned program erased all my contacts and calendar when I autosynced (and I had no backup because I hadn't autosynced in months AAARRRG!)
I have some problem to use v3.5, hence now try to get v3.7.
Thanks...
Hey,
following problem:
I installed .NET Framework 3.5 as I got my Diamond 2. But since saturday, or something else, all apps and games which need .NET Framework 3.5 won't start and "say" that I must install .NET Framework 3.5. So I tried to reinstall this, but than my Diamond 2 says, that I've already installed .NET Framework 3.5. I've also try to cahnge the value from .NET Framework 2 & 3.5 in the registry. But it wouldn't run! Please Help
Thanks!
PS: Sorry for my bad english!
Hard reset may be your only option.
I already thought so..
That's very bad! But thank you!
Do you know good back up programms?

SPB backup is good for system file restoral.
PIM backup is good for PIM data, however I find that restoring PIM data can f-up Manila.
You may want to back up your PIM data with M$ My Phone.
With any registry editor, I use Resco Registry, go to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework
There you will have 2 keys, that says the version, set to "1" the 3.5 version and set to "0" the 2.0 version; then soft reset and voila...
Are you having problem with your CAB files or you need more speed and stability, then use Extendir to prepare your cab files.
Extendir is a file system filter driver that significantly increases the performance of your phone, in specific situations even up to 12 times as fast and faster…
With the help of Extendir 98% of my old and new files now work perfectly on my X2 without any heavy battery usage.

The post is for three different threads as stated before, I used all the three threads together to product the result you see in my first post.
Answer to your question, check my attached file.
The software is really simple to use, download the file, unzip it and run Extendir Cabs.
and whats with extendir.dll which is actually doin the changes not the
extendir cabs which only makes cab files

Yes that is what I'm asking you to do just re-cab your Cab files with Extendir Cabs, Install your files as usual and just relax and see how your phone will perform. But if you want to go all the way, you can read the post about Extendir all cache and Preset Installer
And you still have questions just post in the thread and ShaDrac can personally help you.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530710
But from your questions, is like you are doubting the software???

Okay, so if i use Extendir on my Manila cabs, it should make sense work faster on the x2?
OK ... I used the Extender ... and here is what I did (and is it simple):
1. moved all of the cabs that I wanted to "extend" into a directory -- on my PC
2. ran "extendir cabs" and pointed it to the directory mentioned in #1
3. It generated a single cab with all of the cabs that I had moved into a single cab called the "directory name.cab" that was in #1
4. I copied the cab to my phone and installed it ...
That was it ... and it seems to work ... but I don't have any results that I can report ... only did it to day, and it is too early to say what it is doing -- but it seems to have better battery response ... note that one of the cabs that I "extended" was SPB 8 Mobile Shell. After the install, all of the programs worked and the install did not take very long ... shorter then installing the programs the first time ...
Now the questions ...
1. When the extender cab installs, it asks where to install the extender cab ... and I selected the storage card -- which I found strange since SPB 8 is normally installed in the device and not on the card ... It seems to work -- but should that have been installed on the device?
2. there only seems to be a single choice for the location of the install -- when I did it the first time, I installed in on the device, and it took up memory in the device when I hade "extended" cabs that were both formally in the device and on the storage card. I then addnd more programs into the directory for the cabs, and rans extendir cabs again and it created another file (called the directory name -- note that this cab is located in the same directory that the extendir cabs.exe file is located). When I copied it to my phone and installed it, it said that I had to uninstall the previous version of the extended cab -- which I did. (Note that I also tried to rename the cab to another name before installing it, and it still asked about uninstalling the previous version.) I am not sure if it is possible to use it for device located cabs and storage located cabs -- is that possible?
Well that is my experience with extender and how it is used ...

A thousand thanks for trying this tool, this tool is basically for Rom developer to use and cook applications into their Rom, back then people discovered using it to re-cabs our Cab files make them faster and less battery consuming.
Answer to your Questions : You just have to group your Cab files into two groups. First group for cabs that will be install into Phone memory, Second group for cabs in memory card.
Or you can re-cab your files separately.
Tips for better battery and more speed : You may know this, but for those that don't know.
* Install applications that runs regularly, runs in background or programs you use frequently into phone memory.
eg : Manila
* Install applications that don't runs in background, you don't use regularly or very large applications in Memory card.
eg : games
Hmm.. im not sure if im doing it wrong but what i did was use the program on the manila cabs and the other stuff, but when i restarted my x2 manila didn't bother to start up unless i install the non-extendir cab im not sure what im doing.
Here is what I noticed over the last few days ...
There is a significant speed increase in browsing (I use Iris -- gave up on the IE since I was getting warnings about using IE6 based browser and Microsoft does not appear -- at least i could not find one -- to have an upgrade) speed and also Bing is faster ...
SPB 8 is also faster ...
There might be an increase in battery life, but I am still evaluating that part of it ...
I will have to give this a try. Thanks for the heads up
will the droid pro+3.0 really work in xperia x2? haha..=)
