looking for any input on if you think it is worth it to go from the telus p4000 (titan) to the diamond that will be launching with telus soon. i think the specs for the diamond coming to telus are a bit different (gsm vs cdma) than what i have seen aroud the internet, so i was hoping for some feedback.
still so MSD slot, but overwhelmingly YES. 23MB free -> 200MB free means YES. Wait for a pro if you want the keyboard, but YES. The CDMA version even gets a 50% (900->1340mah) bigger battery, albeit for a (10.7->13.9mm) thickness increase. Its 2mm taller and 3mm thicker than GSM.
Yea I am thinking of going to the Diamond (my P4000 is dying) but should I wait for the Touch Pro (Raphael)? I like the keyboard, but how good is the onscreen keyboard on the diamond? I see that it is way more slim without the keyboard... Is not having the clickwheel annoying? other than the keyboard, is there going to be any other differences between the Diamond and the Raphael? ( I am on Telus here in Canada). Help please!

I am thinking of updating from an Artemis as I need a keyboard but I have some concerns:-
1. Is it worth it?
2. Does the t-mobile vario III have wireless disabled, like the Artemis did?
3. I am only 6 months into an 18month contract, so where is best to buy sim free in the UK?
4. Should I avoid the Kaiser from other vendors (e.g. orange) due to disabled features? I assume sim-unlock is easy.
Any other advice?
I have tried searching the Kaiser forum for t-mobile, wifi, wireless etc but can't find out for certain if t-mobile disable is.
Thanks.
I made upgrade from Artemis to Vario
Ad 1) MDA Vario III is great device and is much more better then (old good) Artemis - keyboard, GPS, big RAM and ROM .
Ad 2) Czech operator T-Mobile has Vario with WiFi enabled. Mda Compact III (cripled Artemis) is without wifi.
I have the Xda Orbit and AT&T Tilt right now and have been using both, and the Tilt/Kaiser is certainly better in performance, but if the size matters to you, the Artemis is still much better. in the pocket, the extra thickness and weight make a significant difference, as it does in the hand as well.
i like the wheel of the artemis, but my hands are always very dry (i use lots of lotion and can't really leave a fingerprint on things) so i can't barely grab the wheel, so the d-pad of the kaiser is good. i'd love the wheel if my fingers weren't so slippery.
i like the feel of the artemis' buttons a lot more, all the front keys, but especially the power button. its the best i've used of all my htc devices, while the kaiser(is the tilt different here?) has a very recessed button that's hard to push. i've had the magician and prophet with similar power buttons, but this one is much harder to get to. i don't need the keyboard, but its nice, and feels just like the herald's.
i only paid $380 for my kaiser, while i paid $525 for the artemis, which is fine, but i wouldn't pay +$700 for the kaiser since i feel they are equals for my purpose. kaiser is faster with a the left scroll and keyboard, but size matters a lot to me, so the artemis really nails it there. hope all that helps a bit, though i've wifi on both too
oh, sim unlock costs me $15usd on ebay. DO NOT USE NEWMOBILEFREEDOM. mufukas don't respond to my emails, but they leave retaliatory negative feedback real fast
Thanks for the responses.
Size isn't too much of an issue as I use a belt clip. Out of interest just how much bigger is it? I know I can check the specs, but they don't really mean much as it is hard to visualise.
I wanted to be sure that the kaiser had wifi if I bought the t-mobile one as their version of the Artemis had the Wifi chip removed.
The Artemis is a very good handset, but I really need a keyboard.
I was looking at buying a sim free from e-bay (or a t-mobile one) as I have another 12 months on my contract before I can upgrade. Looking to find the best place to buy if anyone knows of somewhere better in the UK.
size isn't that much different, just it feels feels different in the pocket. on the belt, there's not gonna be difference with the holster and all, but you should feel the weight difference a little bit. in my hand, its so obvious, but on a belt, should be negligible and you shouldn't concern yourself, as you aren't.
good luck finding the right one
Thanks,
Just saw one (brand new) go on e-bay for £295. Unfortunately I missed it, so better luck next time I hope.
I just (yesterday) upgraded from an Artemis (P3300) to a Kaiser (Tytn II), both HTC sim-free units.
Although I've only had my Kaiser for about 24 hours, I'm really impressed!
So far, I haven't come across a single problem with it that couldn't easily be fixed by looking on here (thanks everyone).
I liked my Artemis, but (so far) I LOVE my Kaiser.
I bought mine sim-free from SuperETrader (GBP421 including free next day shipping). Admittedly, it seems to be a South East Asia version (has Mapking instead of TomTom), but I've managed to register it with HTC ok, and I can live without the supplied TomTom since I already have it.
My advice is, if you can afford the upgrade, go for it - I don't think you'll regret it - I don't.
Thanks.
I think that's settled! I'm gonna try and get one. Just looking around, probably end up using e-bay though as I'm a tight Yorkshireman
The product site of the HTC Touch PRO has been updated.
I am so looking forward to get the pro
whats the difference?
Device Tour and Touc Flo 3D tab have been added to the PRO site

16MB are great... that' 4 mp3s
But 16MB mircorSD cards are so expensive... I guess because they are handcrafted
Up to 16 GB microSD
It's a nicely spec'd phone but a bit too thick for my liking - I had a TyTn at one stage and couldn't handle the thickness.
I've just ordered a Touch Diamond so let's see how that goes!
16MB!! what to do with all that space ?!?!?!?
I can't wait to get my hands on this baby (only about 10 weeks to go apparently). I have a Nokia N95 at the moment which is a good size and the touchpro is 3 mm thinner.
I've used TyTN II, iPAQ and Treo. I feel Treo's keyboard is the best, then iPAQ, then TyTN II. Touch Pro has similar keyboard as TyTN II. The keyboard is just not the keyboard I like, honestly, I almost start hating it. (that's why I sold TyTN II and bought Diamond.).
If Touch Pro's keyboard has no significant improvement, and the time needed for screen rotation is not improved, I won't consider it, especially I'm using a Diamond now.
Keyboard is a lot better
I have handled the Pro and can say that the keyoard is a lot better.
Like you I don't much like the TYTNII style keyboard as I find it too small and spongy.
The new keyboard is larger and takes up much more of the available space. It is also much nicer to the touch.
I already have a Diamond and prefer to use my thumb or a stylus. I am only put off the Pro as I don't actually use a slide out keyboard and don't like the additional thickness.
All the best,
Sam.
@Sam: Thanks for the info about the keyboard...
I am really lookink forward to it and I hope that it is really available from August.
For me, the thinkness is less than my current phone and since I have rather larger hands I actually think that this is better since it fits better into the palm of my hand...
Let's wait and see when HTC makes it available...
I'm betting it'll be around the end of August running into September when this thing becomes widely available.

Yep, as usual... I never saw a release announcement that was not delayed in the end...
Nice phone
yea i like the phone too but i don't think ill be able to deal with the size. looks like the keyboard makes the phone too bulky.. im surprised htc cannot back the keyboard a little thinner. other than that i think this phone is worth waiting for... can't wait for it to come out.
Hello all...
Thinking of getting a new phone and i have narrowed it down to these 2.. i origionally wanted an iphone but i dont wanna leave my contract to o2 so i can get either of these 2 from vodafone..
i really like the keyboard in the touch pro and my old phone was a HTC Wizard and when i upgraded this to the HTC Artemis i missed the keyboard but loved the fact the i'd practically halfed the size of the phone., the Diamond is a gorgeous phone and i'm just wondering what the size difference between the Diamond and Touch Pro is?
also is there any difference in features other than a keyboard?
my price plan at the moment is 500 mins 500 texts with unlimited internet for £30 a month...
i really want 3G because i'm currently using GPRS and its really slow
any ideas???
Thank You
KevAndLynds
touch pro has keyboard, flash, more ram, memory card support
u'll get more than 3G, u'll have HSDPA (14Mb/s rather than 3Mb/s)
I'd go for the Touch HD if it was me... depends on budget tho.
I was in much the same dilemma. I had an Artemis, well Tmobile's version of it, and was quite happy with the size of the device. I pondered for ages between the Diamond and the Pro and in the end went for the Diamond (mda Compact iv) and got it on £25/month for 12 months
My reasoning was that the only thing attracting me to the Pro was the card slot and possible better battery life, but I never ran out of space on my artemis with a 2GB card, the mdac4 has 4GB built in, and I am never far away from a power supply, home - car - work - car - home all of which have power.
The mdac4 feels a lot smaller than the artemis and it is also lighter. % days with it so far and I'm more than happy with my choice
I prefered the Diamond , less thickness and less weight..
4 GB is fine for me.., I had (and still have) P3300 (Artemis) with 2Gb and still have 300Mb free
Hey All!
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Pantech Matrix Pro phone, and if so...how would they rate it compared to the Kaiser. I am tired of the kaiser giving me trouble with a signal and can't send it in since I flashed it with a diff OS, so I figured I'd give up an get another phone because even swapping it out if I could would lead to the same problems (every friend of mine that got the AT&T Tilt/Kaiser still winds up having issues with reception...in regards to the bad resister or whatever the model has).
What are the advantages and disadvantages between the two phones?
I never had an issue with reception, if anything, it gets better reception than other ATT phones (my friend and my fiance' both have ATT).
It looks like you just don't have the right radio. Try flashing another radio and you will improve your reception. It's all about trial and error.
Try the radio in my sig.
As far as the Pantech Matrix, it's a toy compared to the Kaiser. Very cheaply made, bad buttons and not durable at all.
no offense but i kinda chuckled, the pantech has windows mobile standard, non touchscreen.... i agree with the post above me, that phones a toy compared to the kaiser... if your looking to upgrade, look at the touch pro

It's a problem with a resister on the board I guess. The phone works fine for a lot of people until you enable the flight/airplane mode. Once you disable and go back, the signal is never the same.
I have tried dozens of radios across multiple OS's now (ports of both 6.1 and 6.5) and all experience the same thing. There is even a thread about it.
I didn't notice that it wasn't touch screen, therefore I agree. So the Touch Pro would be better than the Kaiser eh? This sounds like something I need to look into. Hopefully it has a solid connection with no hidden bugs.
Does anyone know if it will be available on AT&T? Isn't the HTC Fuze (AT&T) the Touch Pro? If so, I hope that means Pro 2 will come around as well.
Comparing Apples To Oranges...
As someone who's owned both phones, Tytn II and Matrix Pro, I can say it's not the same comparison. The Matrix Pro is a smartphone not a Pocket PC. Yes, Matrix Pro has Windows Mobile GUI, but as mentioned before it's not touchscreen. A better comparison would be to the HTC Rose and the Matrix Pro. Both are excellent smartphones, but it depends on what you want. The Matrix Pro is incredibly compact and well designed with both a slider qwerty keyboard and slider telephone keypad, while the Rose only has the slider keyboard. The Rose has 256 MB of RAM and ROM while the Matrix Pro has 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM. The Rose is significantly longer and a little more cumbersome for my tastes. My favorite all around phone was probably the HTC 3125 but it only has the keypad making it horrible for texting.
I've owned several touchscreen phones, and believe me you get sick of not having a keypad where you can actually feel the numbers you're dialing, so if I were to say which phone was the bigger "toy" I'd have to give that award to the Tytn II as I've grown up to big boy phones now.
Finally, I tell everyone if you want to compare GSM phones go to gsmarena.com as they allow you to compare phone specs and pictures side by side to accurately determine the right phones for your needs and desires.
It had to happen, I am usually so careful, my phone case came off my belt and dropped by the driver side door. I didn't notice it until I was on the road. Sent my daughter out to get it and found that I had driven over the phone. The invisible shield had kept it from shattering and it is still working. I think all I need to do is replace the lcd digitizer, but I'm really bummed out. I loved my diamond.
Question is; I've got permission from the better half to get a new phone, what is the best option for an upgrade under 600.00 USD?
I've resurrected an old Pantech Duo to tide me over, and I am going to buy a new phone in two weeks when more money comes into the house. Let me know which way to go.
I've always wanted a Touch HD. Bigger screen (WVGA) is the main point for me. I don't know how much it costs in US, but over here in Malaysia, could get it for slightly less than RM2000 (roughly USD600).
I would like US 3g also, I've been seeing that the Diamond II and the Touch HD standard versions only support European 3G. I know the HD version that has US 3G is the T8285. The Diamond II version I think is the upcoming warhawk. They downgraded the cam in that version of the diamond II to 3.2 MP from 5.0 MP. I hate that but I wonder if it makes any difference.
Well, 5.0MP cam to 3.2MP cam makes no big difference (unless you're using your phone to take pictures for blown up reproduction later, which I highly doubt so).
I don't quite like TD2 of the big space at the bottom of the screen. Having the zoom panel there is just taking up valuable space.
I'm assuming you are in the US {you stated $600US} & that you are on AT&T {Go from Diamond to Duo}. First off, as long as you qualify for an upgrade, you can get any phone your provider has for less then $600. Personally, I suggest looking aroung the web for unlocked GSM phones. Other countries have much better phones then what are offered in the US. Currently Japan is playing with 4G phones, whereas the US is barely on 3G.
Click on the "Device Database" tab at the top of this screen. It will take you to PDADB.net which has extensive data on all PDA/PPC devices available & upcoming.
