Hi,
I want to start developing for my HTC Diamond but don't know what tools are best nowadays. I used to develop in Visual C++ Embedded 3.0 years ago but that doesn't seem to be available anymore.
My Question... Are there any good free tools for me to start developing for Windows Mobile 6?
Any help is appreciated!
Best regards,
EP
Have a look as visual studio 2008 pro trial with the WM 6 SDK works very well for me

Has anybody checked out Microsoft's new mobile site? while working through the various menu options/links... keep an eye on what the programs LOOK like. Outlook, Contacts, Excel, Word, etc all LOOK different to WM6!

I'm guessing this website is based upon WM6.1 ?? Just an idea
Click Start > See the Experience > Stay More Connected and a Kaiser pops up. Its also under the phones section.
Yeah I noticed that!! I wonder why don't they have it listed on the main screen of phones though! oops!!! I take that back! just needed to drag the scroll bar to the right Glen... doh!!
Wow that looks fab. Either it's just fake mockups or it's Photon (windows mobile 7).
Taken from microsoft-watch.com regarding the WM roadmap:
Microsoft is working to deliver Photon, the successor to Crossbow, to cell phone and PDA providers by Q4 2007, and launch it officially in the first or second calendar quarter of 2008, according to slides from a Microsoft official's March TechDays presentation. Photon will include a "new flexible shell, modular containers and the 'Yamazaki' Windows CE kernel," according to information on the slides.

To be fair, MS need to pull their finger out... although I'd NEVER buy an iPhone, I have to admit my eyes starting watering when I played with it the other day - the OS is beautiful!

YAMAZAKI! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111LOL! 4
What the hell is a Yamazaki?
Apparently Windows CE versions from 4.0 onwards are named after whiskeys... and apparently Yamazaki is a whiskey... don't ask me!
CE 6 (Yamazaki)
And Wikipedia has only a small amount of information on Photon:
Windows Mobile
Microsoft is currently working on an upgrade to the Windows Mobile platform codenamed Photon that will be powered by Windows Embedded CE 6.0. Leaked videos of devices running the software show a new graphical interface. The software would merge both Smartphone and Pocket PC versions in one Windows Mobile version - the new interface optimized for both direct touch and button-based interaction, reducing stylus use. Microsoft Photon has been in development since the release of Windows Mobile 5 and is scheduled for release in the first half of 2008.

See that bit about "direct touch"...

Here's to hoping for a free upgrade
I'm sure the ROM cookers on here will make a "free" upgrade ;-)
There is a webcast of Windows CE 6.0 R2 launch this friday morning... although its mainly for the developers, it will still be interesting to see whats truly new in CE that WM will be able to make use of.

Could anyone here ever get windows ce or windows mobile working on a chumby?
Just wondering. I love my chumby one but it would be incredible if we could get windows mobile or win ce to work on it. Makes me wish I knew how to code n such. I don't know how difficult it is to port things to devices they don't belong on but if someone would at least look into it and let me know that'd be awesome. So... thanks!
Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Windows CE (and Windows Mobile subsequently) are currently built with kernels consisting of two parts, a device agnostic part, and a device-dependent part which needs to be tailored specifically to the device WinCE will run on. In addition, you'd need a new WinCE compatible bootloader, WinCE drivers, etc. To the best of my knowledge, Windows CE or Windows Mobile have never been ported to devices they did not ship on, which makes sense considering how WinCE is closed source and very device-dependent.
Alright then, good enough answer for me, lol. Thank you.
Hey, would anyone consider porting this app android.wordpress.org to windows mobile 6.5?
wow. 170 veiws and not a single reply?
Youll need the source code to do a port. Even then, I have no idea how similar the languages are of android and wm. (iirc android uses something based on java, while wm uses something based on vb .net, Im not a mobile developer, so please, someone with more knowledge chime in)
windows live writer is a pretty nice blogging software for windows mobile.
if not, you could always install xandroid and run the wordpress app there.
I really love Windows Mobile OS but my uncle gave me a Milestone for my birthday! I wonder that could anyone have an idea to set up Windows Mobile OS on my Milestone. I think this is a best combination! Maybe I'm so silly but I'm still hoping.
Waiting for news!!!
This would be nearly impossible if not impossible because of the locked bootloader no custom kernel can be loaded to run windows mobile

The nearest approach for windows is "Android windows 7" from android market.
You can use skin which look just like winmo 7 home screen. It's somewhere here.Search forums...
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
Thanks for all your helps and advice ! Maybe I will use the Windows 7 skin but I still hoping for a complete setup of Win mobile on my device . As you known, many device which use Windows mobile can use Android as the second OS, so why's the device that use Android can't use Windows mobile? The hardware configuration of Milestone is good enough to run Windows mobile 6.5 or maybe above (like Win 7). Why don't Motorola give an unlock bootloader on this device? It will a big problem for many modders in the world
PS: Sorry if my English is so bad.

I have a solution. You should sell the MS for somebody. According to you buy new smartphone that it is supported by WM. Recommending HTC HD 2 or 7
Android is open source so it can be ported to other devices.
WM/WP7 is not open source and can't be ported to other devices that shipped with a different OS i.e. Android. Even if you could it would be illegal to so do.
Android is so much better than WM/WP7 that you must be on some good w&&d if you think otherwise =P Learn to love Android and flash the good ROMs that people have made for Milestone, or sell your phone to someone who can appreciate it and get something that fits you "needs" better.
FYI a bit of searching on XDA would have answered this question without wasting time.
So up until now, to those developers and programmers for mobile apps, who always wondered how these apps were made or would be made for WP7 using Visual Basic 2010. There is the Windows Phone menu in the program. Ofcourse with .NET Framework 4
Go to this link >>> Trying out Visual Basic for Windows Phone 7
ENJOY!
http://create.msdn.com/en-US/ just found this today haven't checked it yet though
NICE!!!!!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this only for the professional versions of VB?
Not the free Express editions.
