So up until now, to those developers and programmers for mobile apps, who always wondered how these apps were made or would be made for WP7 using Visual Basic 2010. There is the Windows Phone menu in the program. Ofcourse with .NET Framework 4
Go to this link >>> Trying out Visual Basic for Windows Phone 7
ENJOY!
http://create.msdn.com/en-US/ just found this today haven't checked it yet though
NICE!!!!!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this only for the professional versions of VB?
Not the free Express editions.

Has anybody checked out Microsoft's new mobile site? while working through the various menu options/links... keep an eye on what the programs LOOK like. Outlook, Contacts, Excel, Word, etc all LOOK different to WM6!
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/startdoingmore/
I'm guessing this website is based upon WM6.1 ?? Just an idea
Click Start > See the Experience > Stay More Connected and a Kaiser pops up. Its also under the phones section.
Yeah I noticed that!! I wonder why don't they have it listed on the main screen of phones though! oops!!! I take that back! just needed to drag the scroll bar to the right Glen... doh!!
Wow that looks fab. Either it's just fake mockups or it's Photon (windows mobile 7).
Taken from microsoft-watch.com regarding the WM roadmap:
Microsoft is working to deliver Photon, the successor to Crossbow, to cell phone and PDA providers by Q4 2007, and launch it officially in the first or second calendar quarter of 2008, according to slides from a Microsoft official's March TechDays presentation. Photon will include a "new flexible shell, modular containers and the 'Yamazaki' Windows CE kernel," according to information on the slides.

To be fair, MS need to pull their finger out... although I'd NEVER buy an iPhone, I have to admit my eyes starting watering when I played with it the other day - the OS is beautiful!

YAMAZAKI! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111LOL! 4
What the hell is a Yamazaki?
Apparently Windows CE versions from 4.0 onwards are named after whiskeys... and apparently Yamazaki is a whiskey... don't ask me!
CE 6 (Yamazaki)
And Wikipedia has only a small amount of information on Photon:
Windows Mobile
Microsoft is currently working on an upgrade to the Windows Mobile platform codenamed Photon that will be powered by Windows Embedded CE 6.0. Leaked videos of devices running the software show a new graphical interface. The software would merge both Smartphone and Pocket PC versions in one Windows Mobile version - the new interface optimized for both direct touch and button-based interaction, reducing stylus use. Microsoft Photon has been in development since the release of Windows Mobile 5 and is scheduled for release in the first half of 2008.

Here's to hoping for a free upgrade
I'm sure the ROM cookers on here will make a "free" upgrade ;-)
There is a webcast of Windows CE 6.0 R2 launch this friday morning... although its mainly for the developers, it will still be interesting to see whats truly new in CE that WM will be able to make use of.

Hi,
I want to start developing for my HTC Diamond but don't know what tools are best nowadays. I used to develop in Visual C++ Embedded 3.0 years ago but that doesn't seem to be available anymore.
My Question... Are there any good free tools for me to start developing for Windows Mobile 6?
Any help is appreciated!
Best regards,
EP

THis at best seems to me a WAD theme. Or am I wrong, may be I would be more interested to see me wrong this time.
Looks like yet another shell program, but apparently a good one
pretty fancy when he posts a link can you put it up here?
here is the post from the guy who put up the video

yaa it seems something like those shell programs. I don't know if it will be anything more than just few windows program. @ryan don't worry you will surely get one when it will be out. Cheers.
i will contact the coder i think that windows vista for kaiser will be released very very very soon
If it wasn't simply a Shell User Interface then why would it run within Windows Mobile?
I suppose you're going to install Desktop applications on your Kaiser? Like everyone can afford 300+MB for Office?
It's bad enough on full sized PCs
Without bringing it to PPC platforms as well. Aside from the 'resource' issues already referred to, there's also the fact that even WM 6.1 doesn't offer full driver support for much of the hardware it's commonly (and officially) installed on. A good example is that unlike the desktop WHQL driver certification scheme where many of these drivers are included in native OS desktop builds, there's no such luck with Windows Mobile and it's a free-for-all with Microsoft allowing devices to be sold with their OS and no proper driver support. Maybe WM 7.0 may correct this (for example by offering full Qualcomm MSM72xx chipset support) but thats no help for Kaiser owners wanting to play video using just native apps.
What's really needed is to get the current Windows Mobile OS sorted and working reliably with full performance (and that additionally includes sorting the poor performing shambles that is currently known as Activesync/WMDC) before trying to add additional 'cosmetic' features.
Look for it

this looks sweet! can't wait for it to be available!
It is January.
That looks awesome! I spent days trying to find the stupid "Vista Portable Edition" Wisbar theme and never succeeded. Grab it quick, cause I'm pretty sure the reason the previously mentioned Wisbar theme was so hard to find is because Microsoft forced people to remove it. This is great though.

awsome will wait patientlly then jump on it lol
its getting late in the month is this still coming out you think? (i hope)
I think the developer is still not able to solve some issues. Its going to be end of jan in week time to come. Hope we will be having it in our devices by that time.
Hey, would anyone consider porting this app android.wordpress.org to windows mobile 6.5?
wow. 170 veiws and not a single reply?
Youll need the source code to do a port. Even then, I have no idea how similar the languages are of android and wm. (iirc android uses something based on java, while wm uses something based on vb .net, Im not a mobile developer, so please, someone with more knowledge chime in)
windows live writer is a pretty nice blogging software for windows mobile.
if not, you could always install xandroid and run the wordpress app there.
Is there any cooked windows mobile ROM for this phone, i9000?
does anyone know if Samsung will release ROMs for Galaxy with WM7?
This doesn't make any sense. Why would on install wm on the GS? Just get an HD2 or wait for a WM7 device.
Lol this is too funny.

The problem is you are not likely to find support for anyone doing this for 2 main reasons.
1) Most people prefer Android.
2) It would be illegal, Windows Mobile has a licencing fee that was not paid for with your phone. (You see Android ports on WM phones because Android is free, it isn't allowed the other way around)
So you should not maintain any hope that it will never happen.
Samsung has other phones in the works that will support Windows mobile. They've just announced a blackberry styled windows mobile at the commincaAsia conference this year.
I highly doubt their windows mobile line will come any where close to what their Galaxy (Android) family.

Cooked windows mobile ROM for Galaxy S i9000 will be performed in the future.
Can't believe that people still wants Windows mobile, I'm currently stuck with windows mobile and i get frustrated every day. Waiting for my Galaxy S to arrive =)
Like to microsoft use the the galaxy s as a test device for wm7?
Like how they are doing with the i8910 Omnia HD.
I think it would be interesting to see how it performs with the hardware in the SGS. I do miss some of me apps on me Touch hd which is why I've kept it, tomtom for 1 and its easier to get flash support (cant wait for Froyo).
Also easier to change the system setting such as the bluetooth's minimum bitpool coz my sgs sounds rubbish in the car.
Wait for WM for SGS????
Wait for WM for SGS???? Don't hold your breath... LOL
(Running WM in SGS is like putting a "fiat punto" engine in a ferrari...)
Why would someone want something as outdated as WM? This OS is dead. WM7 is years behind Android...
I've been using WM for the last 7 years. My last WM phone was a Omnia 2 - The phone is great but I regret so much investing money in a device which OS is no longer supported by Microsoft... My only hope is Android for my WM phone.
Why you ask ? For the fun of it, of course !
Of course WM is outdated, but it's be "fun" to play with it on the Galaxy S, that's all ^^
Prot windows mobile 7 on i9000
Hi. I am makeing a new open boot loader for galaxy. Ill upload a source soon
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This should be interesting!
Can WinMo actually be ported to other devices? I read somewhere that this is next to impossible since WinMo is closed.
Im guessing youre not spamming. Since youre registered since 2007.
I wonder how to make all the drivers? Although I've heard rumors that a SGS similiar device is coming for win mo. 7 so those could be used I guess.
*sigh* Closed source probably isn't a problem. If anything, it can actually be a good thing sometimes. It only generally benefits those who want to modify the core of a system (because it isn't extendible enough), or security patches.
For instance, even on Windows, IFS allows EXT3/EXT4 drivers to be developed without Windows source code, and Microsoft have actually evolved past Linux in regards to backwards compatibility (you don't need to recompile their modules every kernel release).
What's important is that the OS is designed for ARM, and their driver development SDK is comprehensive enough. So is it?
Right now im just makeing open bootloader to make it actually run. Else for drivers and all we need more developers. And this will take time
As i have gone through loader can be run since i have access to read n write on nand.

Where is it? I can't wait any more....
i would rather NOT run WM in my SGS
it'll defeat the whole purpose of getting the SGS
However if we can do Dual Boot, then it'll be intersting to play around with WM7 on the SGS
Since i have many programs that i still can't find replacement for in Android
it'll be handy to be able to Dual Boot to WM to run the old software
