Anyone into politics?

Made a site ... based off Jim Brousarrd (if you don't know who he is or what he did, check out the main site before heading to the forums).

If you have already seen the video... would love to have you come in and join our discussion.... Direct link-->http://therealpatriot.net/cgi/forum
Thanks guys! Hope to see ya around!
Wow... honestly thought that what he did was pretty controversial. I mean.. even if you don't join the site... would love to hear what you guys think
Into politics? Are you kidding? I got kicked off the at&t forums... how's THAT for 'into politics'?
(didn't mean to hijack your thread... but could not resist the bait!)

LOL.... well don't have AT&T, but have heard some of the horror stories and saw something on the news that if you "talk bad" about them, they will drop you as a customer or something? That's hilarious in my book.

AT&T just has over sensitive forum moderators with inadequacy issues. FoneJunkie and myself were banned because of "political correctness". Our crime was we objected to having a Spanish language forum. I have nothing against the language or culture. All cultures and people to me are interesting, fun to be around, and find something to learn from. I just want people who choose to LIVE in the USA to learn to speak the language so we can communicate. That's not to much to ask is it?
Anyway, enough of political correctness and on to politics.

From Wikipedia, indigenous languages
North America is notable for its linguistic diversity, especially in California where it alone has 18 genetic units consisting of 74 languages (compare to the mere 4 genetic units in all of Europe: Basque, Indo-European, Uralic, and Turkic). Another area of considerable diversity appears to have been the Southeast; however, many of these languages became extinct from European contact and as a result they are, for the most part, absent from historical record. This diversity has been and continues to be very influential in the development of linguistic thought in the U.S.

One of the first phrases on that website, the first that jumps into my eye:
"The Land of the Free"...
There are over 16,000,000,000 people, about 250,000,000 live in the USA, so the rest of us, 15,750,000,000 are the poor souls living in the lands of the unfree? the oppressed? Don't you see that that phrase "the land of the free" is very insulting to the rest of the world, ignorant, short sighted, denying our rich histories, cultures and political systems?

ROFL... I second that. An English comedian (can't remember his name) was talking about how everybody says he has an accent. He says since he speaks the Queen's English, it's everybody else has an accent. I have to agree.

Your insulted because you are adding a word into that line that isn't there.
It is "The Land of the Free"....
NOT "The only Land of the Free".
And speaking of indigenous languages, neither English or Spanish is indigenous of the Americas. From Mexico (and slowly moving north) on down, Spanish is the language of their conquerors. Most of the culture is influenced by a country thousands of miles away. And of course most should know the history of the English speaking people and their relationship to Native Americans. And you French guys... all you got was some of Canada and south Louisiana.

Dutch girl??? I've heard some stories about you Dutch girls.
And of course "you French guys" was directed at.... well... French guys.
I'm Dutch and Irish myself. But here lies the problem with your argument. The term "Land of the Free" isn't arrogant. It's the truth (though that is being taken away more and more everyday). We have more rights then *most* other countries right now. You are playing with semantics.
How many other countries have what we have? We, as America do have our problems. Education is crap, many other countries have better health care than us, and we have this terrible habit of messing with other countries when we need to focus more on our own.
Even though we do have our shortfalls, the world is looking on us for those and not for all the good we do. We pass out more money to other countries than anyone else, we DO take in an unprecedented number of new citizens, and we are trying to work on our shortcomings.
So... with all the problems we currently face, do I love my country? Yes I do. I wouldn't have joined the military in order to risk my life to defend it if I didn't. My site isn't designed to belittle other countries. My site is designed around patriotism. It is also there as a open forum to discuss people that disagree with me.
momentarylapseofreason..... I like the way you think.
I want to add something to it too. I think we (USA) have the best form of government out of any country. But it has one major flaw, if I can call it a flaw. It is the fact it requires men and women of integrity and honesty to run it. And well, we are in short supply of that.

That's very hard to judge. But lets look at some examples:
I do not have the right to carry a fire arm and I'm very glad with that situation. If I face a situation of inhumane physical suffering, I do have the right to die and doctors do have the right to help me with that last wish. I have the right to grow, buy, smoke cannabis. Every 4 years I have the right to vote for 2eKamer (compare to US Senate, more or less), I can choose from hundreds of candidates throughout the entire political spectrum, even a party for animals is actually represented in parliament. I FEEL much more free than if I would have to live in the US. But probably much less free than lots of people in Africa, Asia, South America, Australia who can walk their whole life without crossing roads, without even being able to imagine a traffic jam, who can build their hut wherever they please, who can eat whatever they can grab.
You are playing with semantics.

This would be pretty cool however i've never seen it work out in any other forum. I think the best thing to do would be to create a poll and see where most people are located. Say there's a bundle in California, then we could have one in LA or some place close to all Californians. Same thing for other states, countries, even cities, etc. We could then all share our experiences. As for me, i'm in Southern California, hence the reason i used it
More or less this event might take place in the US or somewhere in Europe...only few asian are here...
It is a nice idea. Make it a convention and invite some guest speakers to show off the future of mobile devices, have reps from HTC and others perhaps like Sony, Motorola, Nokia, Jabra, etc... showing off newest gadgets and gear - Workshop seminars and stuff like that. It could be a fun time to meet some of our members in person, talk, show off our devices and envy the other person's device and a good learning opportunity as well.

it won't be an eyeball anymore. It will look like a convention, a meeting, etc. And that will be boring because everyone should be formal. Just an "ORDINARY' but "GRANDacious" eyeball.. exclusively fro XDA-DEV members and if you like we can invite M$ as our guest speaker..LOL
Just a regular GRAND EYEBALL, just to meet each and everyone here at XDA-DEV. No paper works, no signing up just beer and phones and girls too...

Agree with the poll
Starting form there we can see how many would like to attend and where most people is located
But I must say that I agree with Daveshaw that the best place should be where all this started: Amsterdam!
So who is going to create the poll?
Yeah, Amsterdam would be great! And there will be raffle promos and HTC Devices giveaways courtesy of all xda-dev's moderators and admins... Come one let's make this happen.

i agree however that safety, next of course to resources, is definitely the issue needed to be considered by anyone else. but who's safe nowadays? i dont think there's a better place than our own abode (just be sure our better half is out.. lol)..
a little clarification though about Philippines vis a vis Abu Sayaff (ASG). ASG concentrates mostly in northern part of Mindanao and now being relentlessly pursued. on the otherhand, there are great places in the Philippines particularly in Luzon & Visayas, although as i've said cant be considered safer that our homes. But on the brighter side, your 1$ to Php47.++ is quite noteworthy of consideration.... more than double the fun i guess
Btw, considering the "safety" issue as quoted, i voted for the last option (peace orb...)

We should meet up and see our fellow XDA members.
We should defiantly try in 2011 to meet up. Lets plan early, and then make the best arrangements for this.
Cities that the most members populate and can meet up in --
Europe -
Western Europe:
London - ??? and ???
Amsterdam - ??? and ??? - Thanks for the fix Chainfire, That was a big fail!
Eastern Europe:
Parague - Needs more user attention, WE MUST KNOW IF THIS WILL BE A HOT SPOT OR NOT!
Bratislava - Needs more user attention, WE MUST KNOW IF THIS WILL BE A HOT SPOT OR NOT!
USA-
West Coast:
Las Vegas - Galaxys and ~~Tito~~
Portland - ??? and ???
East Coast:
New York - ??? and ???
Other cities:
Mexico City
Cities/places into consideration:
Moscow
Sydney
India - Mumbai or Pune
Date:
Sometime in June, we just need to figure out times for each city then we can conference them together.
I know one major chef is from vegas as i've met him there before
I'm from southern california.. but vegas isnt TOO far.. I could saunter up that way for merriment
There is an old thread regarding this.
I think it´s a good idea
I like the idea! But I'm living in Holland... I'm wondering how you guys all look and talk.
NRG is from vegas.
Now I just have to convince my brother to have his stag in Vegas....lol
On a serious note, if any members are from Belfast or anywhere in Ireland and fancy a meet up........I would also be up for this

I think we should seriously have a XDA meet up, and schedule it for different cities and stuff on the same day, and then conference it all at the same time.
What would be an appropriate place to meet up? I know that I would't be able to take part in the merriment if its in a bar, maybe a Starbucks or bookstore.
Nerd-con 2010!!!!!
w00t w00t
I'm in ^_^
Where at?
I wont beable to go until I have the HD2, and that wont be until May 30(Contract expires), maybe early June, so we have plenty of time to plan this.
Where is another area that thrives with XDA memberization?
I know New York, and London are two common places that have XDA members in them.
Any input form them?
We should have the meet up be the same for those cities and conference them on someones laptop and talk through there.
Merge threads ¡?
Please read here, there was a lot of interest of some, and perhaps your idea of local meet-ups it´s more realistic

ROADDDD TRIPPPPP!
Vegas has a few interesting attractions and is always ready for a party / meet up
Vegas should be the main hub for the west coast. New York for the east, London for Western Europe, and some other city for Eastern Europe. Then we all conference live, but time zones will be a problem so why not have both conference separately, and we have them both recorded to see what was going on at the XDA meet ups.
Of course all XDA members can watch from each live stream.
We just have to plan this right. And get enough people.
We can always add cities too, if there are enough members in a city. And have more hubs, that can conference with the main hubs.

What is the Imagine Cup?
Imagine Cup is an annual competition sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corp. which brings together young technologists worldwide to help resolve some of the world's toughest challenges. The Imagine Cup comprises five major technology competitions, including Software Design, and four challenges (although the challenge number is updated annually). All Imagine Cup competitors create projects that address the Imagine Cup theme: “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems”. Started in 2003, it has steadily grown in size, where in 2010 more than 325,000 competitors representing 100 countries and regions registered for the Imagine Cup with 400 finalists coming to the Worldwide finals in Warsaw, Poland

G'day Cobbers

G'day
I'm David, and have been a member of XDA since 2006, back when Windows Mobile 5 ruled the forums, and Android hadn't even been thought about.
I currently work in IT Support at a University in Australia. Previously I was a project engineer with a defence contractor. I worked in avionics/electronics, and doing the company IT on the side. I have a B/Eng in IT, and am also qualified to work on aircraft avionics, though I haven't done that for a long time!
I'm obviously Scottish , but moved to Australia in 2001 when I was 21.
I was a BIG fan of the early O2 devices (O2 XDA II, XDA IIs etc), then progressed to HTC WM devices. I even made a few ROMs for the HTC Touch Diamond, which were quite popular
Then when Android was ported to the HD2, I gave it a try, and instantly moved across and never looked back!
I joined the XDA moderator team in 2010, and progressed my way up to Assistant Admin to @MikeChannon (he's not as bad as people say )
The mod team are a great bunch! Keep an eye out for our recruitment notices that go out every now and again
If you need help with anything forum related, please feel free to contact me directly. I can help with name changes, passwords, forum or account issues, pretty much anything

I hope they aren't affected by the severe, extreme flooding that is supposed to occur in the greater Sydney area. Fingers crossed!

So what’s a Cobber?
In the Yiddish dialect of Hebrew, a cobber is a friend, comrade or good companion. In old Australian slang, a cobber is a good buddy, a pal (‘ga day, cobber!) And in Britain a cobber is someone to take a liking to.

My translator (https://www.dict.cc/) just says it's Australian slang for buddy or mate. In German we call it "Kumpel".
Haha yea, it's Aussie slang for friend or mate
And I met and married an Aussie, and moved to Australia when I was 21.

The current flood is in the north of Sydney ... region around Port Macquarie.
