WM6: Will the storage still be deleted, when battery is gone? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi Community,
i am searching for a cheap Windows Mobile device.
The MDA III will probably be my new one, but there is one thing i have to know, before i can buy the device:
I want to upgrade the device to WM6.
In WM 2003 the storage is deleted, when battery is gone.
Is it the same with WM6?
Thx!
Jog

it will be deleted eventually yes. Depends how long you leave the device uncharged

Well, actually, it will be restored from persistent memory once you restore power.

WM5 - Do power failures still wipe BlueAngel?

Hi,
Some may remember from a previous thread that I had problems with my SPV M2000. It appears when it goes through a power outage, I sometimes have to wait some 2 days for the entire device to run out of juice before I can get it to turn back on and run normally.
Needless to say this is a pain in the butt and results in me not trusting the device and taking my laptop with me wherever I go!
So... My question is, if I upgrade to WM5 on this device, will it still wipe itself during a power outage?? Or is that dependant on hardware as well - that the BlueAngel doesn't have?
Thanks in Advance.
It won't wipe itself, this is one of the primary benefits of WM5 and the biggest reason why I upgraded.
If you are having issues whenever the phone briefly loses power (e.g. changing battery), then there is a good chance your backup battery is broken.
No it's fine whilst swapping batteries and dropping the sim in and out. It's an issue when the main battery gets a chance to run out.
Then when I plug it in again (or place a fresh battery on it), the whole thing is dead with red flashing light. The only answer seems to be to leave it uncharged for a few days until it wipes completely and then plug it in before restoring my backups!
WM5 saves state
The only thing I lose when I run the battery all the way down is the date/time with WM5.

Which to be fair I wouldn't mind losing!! I think I'll probably end up upgrading, is most of the software compatible between the two or should I be looking for updated versions?

Most of it is compatible, but I'd go looking for updates anyway just to be sure. Always best to be running the latest version IMHO.

Anyone figure out why the WM6 Wizards turn themselves on?

First, props to everyone on this project. I upgraded my T-Mo MDA to WM6 yesterday, and what a fun day it was. Thanks to all for the WM6 preview!
Unfortunately, since this is my main phone, and I use it for work, reality forced me to downgrade back to a "stock" WM5 ROM.
I had everything sorted out in WM6- syncing, bluetooth headset, all my software installed, etc. but every time I set the thing down, it would turn itself back on within 5 minutes.
Just for "data collection," if it helps, I used the Orwell ROM, and had SPB Pocket PC Plus, and Voice Command 1.6 installed (since the "built-in" one didn't do BT.)
All the other little weirdness I could I live with (the "turn on wi-fi" never saying "Turn off," no camera flash, etc.) but I can't have the thing turning itself on randomly all day!
Thanks again for the glimpse of the future!
After switching from the stock wm6 (rwell) to the pdaviet3 rom i did notice a lot of bugs gone.
to your stated bugs:
Cam light works
Phone is not waking up by itself
battery doesnt seem to drain as much as with the 3.3 roms
faster even without overclocking than 3.3
if there is anything u would like me to test let me know
cheers
on mine i set battrystatus to lock the phone after i would put it on standby so when i would hit the button it would turn the screen back on. but after it gets locked it would stay off. So i figured if you lock your device the screen will stay off.
im on pv3 and the powerups still occur, i have a feeling its Batterystatus doing it, because my brother also has pv3 in it, but no powerups...

I just recently re-installed PV3 from the 3.3 rom because of battery drain issues and since re-installing I havent noticed anymore powerups. I have the 1.4 beta ext. baterystatus installed.

Do you use push email?
im sad to inform you guys........that i think it is the batterystatus that is causing the power ups. after reading this thread last night i removed batterystatus and i noticed that my phone did not power on after i would put it on stand by. and it really saddened me because i like this program alot. do you guys think there might be a solution out there. what other program can i use to over clock?

There is a solution, faria seems to know it but he's not sharing
Shame...
Nope, battery status doesn't seem to be it. I removed it, restarted but it still turns on.
This majorly blows!
Did a hard reset... Now no start-ups, push-email enabled (so it is not the cause).
i have the same problem with pdviet3, i did a hard reset... no powerups until i setup exchange server, its got to be something with push-email, i downgraded to wm5 until theres a fix.
OS itself
Hi guys!
I have such a bug for about 6 months. The same sh** I’m eating just from wm5 AKU3.2, & wm6 didn’t change anything.
I tried it in different ways: several releases of wm5 AKU3.2 and wm6, with and without ExtRom cabs installed, with or without any additional progs, also several versions of radio. Nothing helped!
Some good news: I found out the cause, when it DOES wakeups and when – not.
It very simple to check: just REMOWE password to LOCK your device – it will NOT wake up any more!
Reassign password – and soon it will be awake!
So I had choice: 1. – NOT to assign password for PDA locking, or (as I do so for about 3 months) 2. – to set BatteryStatus option “DeviceLock on Wakeup” on – just like someone wrote above – and switch off device twice.
So, it OS itself brings us this bug!
Is there a doctor in the house?
i stand corrected. i am with you rusigor. i took the password off of my 8125 and to my surprise no more screen power ons. i have battery status set to 299 and ive noticed also that my battery is lasting longer with my password. off. i dont know if its just me. but i've noticed it. so i guess no password for me :-|
HOLLY ****!!! All the hair I've been pulling out!!! I wouldn't never suspected that device lock was causing this. I've started to blame batterystatus.
THANKS! THANKS!
wakeup issue
i had the wakeup issue on the pdaviet3.. i took lock off and it worked... i have the wifi bug..
when wifi is connected i press the icon on taskbar and it dont say turn wifi off.... any ideas?

Anyway to schedule automatic shutdown & restart

Hi all-
I'm coming from a Treo and used a neat little app called Treo Guard. I could schedule the radio to shutdown in the evening and restart in the morning. This really improved by battery life.
I've looked for a similiar app for WM but have come up empty handed. Does anyone know of anything?
Using AT&T Tilt with ATT ROM.
Thanks-

Try SK Tools. S-K-K-V Software, they make SK Schema too.
Hey
Keep searching! I read a thread and a guy posted a cab file that did just this. He had it reset every day at 5 AM to give his phone a "fresh start" every day. Sorry, but I don't have the link but I can say that I read it within the last 1-2 days. I will take a quick look and see if I cant find his post again.
I use Sprite backup that came with the Kaiser, it will reboot after a scheduled backup!

You can probably find a software to shutdown at a pre-determined time, but restart when the the phone is off? hmmmmmmm.
Unattended resets:
1. Pocket Max Phonealarm can be set to do both the radio off & reboot.
2. SKSchema can do it.
3. John Cody's Alerts (www.omnisoft.com) can also be set to do it. (Only smartphone no touch screen. Sorry didn't read the whole post
If your intentions are to shut down to save the battery, it really isn't necessary. When a WM phone goes into hibernation, it will use very little battery if any. If you are wanting something that resets the phone on a daily basis, many will do that. As someone else mentioned, Sprite Backup will do it and that is the one I use.
With Commmgrpro you can schedule those things depending on the time, the weekday and the location (followed with gsm cells assigned to profiles)
scheduled soft resets
maybe this post is also interestening for you ?
cheers

Registry erased?

Ok, this has happened to me several times and i have never figured out why this has happened.
today i went to school and since we were having a test i turned my tilt off. after the test i turned my phone on. the tilt went through the normal boot (but i didnt see the att animation). then it went to the phone setup/align screen stuff, this is when i relized im screwed. after that i reset (to avoid the reinstall of the att software).
so the over all damage done is, my registry seems to have been competely erased. all my settings are lost, but as far as i can see all my files are there.
has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have an idea what caused this? the only thing i could remember that is a cause of worry is that my main phone memory was down to about 2.3mb.
if its possible to get registry back please help, but really the only thing i want to know is how to prevent this after i hard reset and start to rebuild
:-(
are you using a fancy rom or a boring one?

Boring normal ATT rom, i have just seen to many problems with others....
maybe try the new updated one?
saying this probably doesn't help u much, but i had the same thing happen to me too, except i didn't turn it off or anything special. I just rebooted and lost the registry like you did. I don't think its your free memory though, i had over 40mb free when it happened to mine.
Nothing you can do except backup nightly so you can be prepared for next time.
If you're using the AT&T ROMs, Sprite Backup is installed by default.
Hope this helps!

Buy a MicroSD Card, they are relatively cheap, you can tell the backup program to only keep a certian number of back-ups (I keep 5). It also comes in handy if you want to try a new Rom.
You can also auto reset the device after the back-up it helps with stability.

Slow WinMo

After installing the new Rom's (I've tried thaihugo, saiweb and pli6128) in all of them my WinMo works very slowly if I have Vista working, and I've lots of difficulties to have 3G connection in Vista side.
As anyone experienced this also?

Totally agree...
Needs a full reboot after flash, its sort of halfway 'tween a soft n' a hard...
I've left my Shift without battery for almost 1 hour. Still WinMo very slow when Vista is on.

Have you loaded lots of SW on your WinMo side (limited memory on this one)...?
Have you got X-Button set to kill each app when closed..?
Are you trying to use WinMo while USBtool connected and device is Syncing (always slows the system down if you have lots of contacts/calendar entries)..?

Didn't load anything else except what comes in the rom, and configured 4 mail accounts withot attachements to save space.
X-Button configured to kill.
I don't want to use WinMo but as it is to slow I cannot have 3G connection in VISTA side.
When I start Vista the problems begin, sometimes my screen in WinMo side, becomes very strange, I reset WinMo from Vista side and get Unknown SIM status in WinMo, etc...
Flash your original ROM and test again
If it's still slow, and you still get a "crazy screen" sometimes, your hardware might be bad.
Although... if hardware is broken, mostly, these devices won't do anything at all. Strange one...
Try flashing original ROM, test again ?
