I woke up this morning to find that the touchscreen on my Wing was completley unresponsive. I still had control via the D-pad and soft keys. I tried everything I could think of, including a hard reset. Unfortunatley, now that I hard reset it, it's stuck at the "Tap screen to set up your Windows Mobile device". Obviously, I can't tap my screen. Is there a way to bypass this so I can at least get to the today screen???
The only that I know to bypass it includes making a custom ROM with that part disabled. I think you should call your provider and get a replacement if you still have a warranty on it.

You wouldn't happen to have one of those custom ROMs laying around, would you? hehheh I called T-mobile, unfortunately, I'm 12 F'n days passed my warranty! I slapped it good and it went from "Tap Screen" to "Align Screen". Damn.
If I have several backups on my storage card. If only there was a way to activate one of them, that would restore my phone without having to set up the screen....
ive had this happen to a wing before...i think its a hardware problem i just called tmobile and the sent me a new one

Yeah unfortunately, my warranty is expired. I'd have to call the insurance company and pay a $115 deductable
Could always look into replacing the screen yourself? I've seen directions for replacing it on a kaiser around somewhere. Also sounds like all you need is a digitizer.
And quit smacking your phone.... phone abuser!!!

hehe, I trashed them... they were broken ROMs... but I'm sure that I could probably break another one... or maybe it's time for me to create a Windows Mobile non-professional ROM...

LOL I treat my phone better than I treat puppies (which is excellent). What's a digitizer?
Its the hardware for the touch screen... I'm sure if you asked someone in the accesories forum they would be able to point you in the right direction
Hehehe i sale complete used housing, with 100% fully workable LCD

So the touchscreen on my Tilt randomly died yesterday evening. No response from any on screen commands, though it still goes from dim to bright when touched.
Anyone else have any issues with this? I guess I'll have to bring my phone to AT&T today...hopefully I'll be able to get a replacement..
Try a hard reset first (but sync your data with your pc before you do)
I had the same problem - a hard reset sorted it.
Just tried this, it boots to the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile based device" message that doesn't respond to tapping!
Great, now I have a brick.
Do you have a screen protector installed? I had a similar issue and when I replaced my screen protector with a new one, all was well again.

None as of now. Worst part is, I'm pretty much stuck. No phone service, no Tilts in stock to swap out, and AT&T doesn't give out loaners anymore..

If you get your phone less than 30 days, call AT&T customer service asking for a replacement, or ask for a discount compensation credit for your inconvenience. My Tilt got cracked (I think it is a manufacturer defect), and I talked to AT&T CS, and I got $200 credit. After all, I paid only $200 for the phone, but I have to pay to replace the screen. Luckily, I got American Express to pay for the repairing charges since I used the AE card to do the purchase. Try!
I have the same exact issue, except I spilled water on mine. When I am on a call for example the phone's dimmer lights up after tapping but no other responses. Everything else is great tho. Now I added a new rom and I can't get past the setup tap screen. Let us know what happened.
Out of no where my phone screen is mostly white with lots of multi colored vertical lines. I tried resetting it hard, soft, and reset it to the defaults. I still cannot see anything on the screen. I assume its a loose cable to the screen, but since i am under warrenty i didnt open it up. I already have a replacement warrenty phone on its way, but i dont wanna return a cooked rom. What do u guys think the best way to reformat the phone back to an original rom?
Can you take a screenshot of it?
I cant see anything on the screen. But ill take a picture of the screen...
http://www.dbhosts.net/bob/photo.jpg
Thanks
from what I can see from the photo your screen is cracked
No its not cracked at all. Ill try and take a better picture.
To take a better image, use MyMobiler (although i do suspect it'll give the regular windows screen).
that certainly looks like a crack to me, it won't be really apparent if its on the back side
yeah that is for sure cracked, well unless you drew on the screen with a black marker. you do know that if you send a warranty phone in that has physical damage they charge you the cost of the replacement phone they sent you?
i tried using my Mobiler (which by the way ****ing owns) and i dont see anything wrong with the screen.

can anyone say ****? How the **** could i have cracked? (obviously u cant answer that). I already started the warrenty process. Any smart ideas?
ive read a few threads that screens will just crack sometimes without real damage. sorry man that sucks.
I appreciate everyones help. Maybe they will look past this small "crack". Do u think its possible to re flash the rom without a working screen?
yeah i suppose you could flash it but you won't be able to calibrate the screen, try it and then check my mobiler to see what is going on.
here is my next issue. I cant find the text file that i stored the original radio and rom version. What is the best OEM to go with? *im an att customer and i got this phone thru warrenty in may*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568
i haven't read through it but that should help.
I've searched and could not find an answer. So I'll just start a new thread.
No matter what radio I use, no matter what ROM I flash, I cannot get my screen to respond to taps.
It was responding to manual buttons but no touch. I flashed to a new ROM hoping that would fix it, but now I can't even past the calibration screen...
This all just happened suddenly too. I have been using an iphone for the past couple of months so I have not been too concerned. However I wanted to use my kaisar as a modem at an offsite sales event but it's still the same....
Probly been asked a few times, but I took the plunge away....
Flame or answer away....
Just flash ur shipped ROM & see if it can back to normal again. If not, just return for warranty or repair.
have you updated your HardSPL?
if you have spl1.0 with the wm6.1 installed, these problems are common.

That may work. But I'd rather not downgrade to 6.0 if that is not the problem. Plus I have no valid warranty. ATT Tilt is from the United States and I live in Canada...

I have tried 2-3 Hard SPL's.
I suspect that it has something to do with the Hyperdragon 3 Diamond ROM. All my problems started when I flashed that paticular ROM.
I will try downgrading to 6.0 and see if that does the trick. I somehow doubt it though. I think that this may need another, trickier remedy, ie: unbricking a bricked PPC.
I was sort hoping that this was a more common problem and advice would be more readily available...
So I downgraded to the original ROM, but still the same problem. Perhaps if I also downgrade the SPL. Does anyone have this file?
Btw, though I am not a developer or anything I have been flashing ROM's for awhile.
This problem just came out of nowhere...

Also, make sure you run JumpSPL/SSPL-KAIS in order to successfully change the SPL.

Ya, I forgot about that thread. I haven't used that since I upgraded my spl to Hard3.28. I can understand why I would get problems with the RESTORED STOCK ROM that I flashed my device wouldn't work with the latest Hard SPL, but why would this occur with a ROM it was supposed to work with.
This wasn't something that happened after I flashed, it just happened out of nowhere... They key to fixing this understanding WHY. it may or may not be the SPL...

After you flash a rom or hard reset, are you able to get past the screen calibration?
Look here It will not fix the problem, but at least it will let you to bypass the "aligment screen"

No. I figured the problem had something to do with the SW, so I just flashed figuring that would fix it, but now it's basically useless (not like I'm using it right now anyway, but)...

I had a similar problem on my trinity. It was an hardware problem, a spoiled thin strip that is between the LCD and front cover. As someone told me that
send it to warranty would take a long time to get it back I replaced myself the strip and now is working...
It's probably a hardware issue. You will have to replace your LCD+Touchscreen and if that doesn't work, you'll have to replace the flex that connects the LCD with the motherboard itself.
I fixed a TILT with that problem. I ended up buyina a new LCD when the problem was caused by the flex
PS, LCD screen is way cheaper than the flex.
Hey. So it looks like I did buy a replacement warranty. So I took it to my guy and he said that he would just replace it. He asked if I wanted the same one or if I wanted to pay the difference and get a new one....
I paid an extra $250 and got a diamond...
Problem Solved.... See you in the Diamond Section...
had same problem - which i solved by dissasembling and putting few paper pieces under the screen to make a good fit of screen inside the housing - and it helped - touhscreen works fine

I had a similar problem with a Wizard and it turned out to be a bit of dirt that was stuck under the screen on one corner, resulting in constant contact that prevented the device from registering my taps. I removed the screen and cleaned it thoroughly to fix.
Also try "rubbing" the screen in each direction with both thumbs to see if you can slide the screen around and dislodge any dirt from the edges. The screen will move around slightly under the case without damaging the device.
I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

all fault related accessories when you come into Fonebiz.
Thats the only problem, i have already thought of this, although i don't have proof of purchase anymore, can i still get it repaired without proof of purchase?
ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?
Hi there, I know there are other threads on this, but I've got two questions;
I might be able to claim a repair on insurance - the policy doesn't state anything about rooting voiding it, but I'd want to play it safe and flash back the original RUU - now, the digitizer works on my phone, but the LCD is totally shot, can't read anything.
It's been a while since I flashed the RUU, so is there any point where you have to press a button or something on your phone to advance? is it possible to use ddms while flashing the RUU to see what you're doing?
Also, if I can't claim this on insurance, how hard is it to replace the screen yourself? I've seen a "genuine" (hmm.) LCD/tools set on ebay for about the same amount as my insurance excess, so this seems like it could work (if it's easy enough!).
Thanks!!

I've not done it personally but I have seen the guys in the phone shops doing it.
It's not that hard, but you have to know what and where to remove. Just go slow first.
pardon this but what is ddms?
Hi,
I have flashed RUU for my Tattoo at least twice. And as far as i remember there is no point you have to do anything on your phone. It will reboot (into fastboot i think). You will se progress on computer screen.
By the way, how can the LCD be broken and the digitizer not? Is the lcd shattered?
This is against laws of physics!
Oh, maybe I got the letters wrong but ddms is part of the android sdk, so you can take screenshots on your computer - also handy if you've broken your screen and need to know where to press.
As for defying the laws of physics, I guess the Tattoo is more special than we thought! the lcd is showing up loads of black/white cracked patterns (but a small it at the bottom works, so I can just about make out my dock. )
Thanks, insurance guys seem to be a bit more helpful now, so hoepfully won't have to resort to doing it myself.
Just in case anyone else has this problem, found this nice photo-guide to unscrewing everything: http://translate.google.com/transla...acenter.ru/razborka/htc_tattoo/&prev=_t&twu=1
haven't got round to it yet, but should do after exams.
Thanks useful info.
I have opened and dismentled everything my tattoo 3-4 times refering the guidlines. It is really helpful.
I was trying to resolve a touch screen problem. My phone acted like something is always touching at a point of the screen, so, I couldnot able to select a thing correctly and it is worst while typing using screen keyboard. So, I disassembled my tattoo and clean everything inside and assembled again. It seems working correctly for few hours then the problem reoccurred. And I disassembled again and again.
Atlast, I found out the problem was just on the screen protector, I have removed it and resolved the problem. Funny problem but it is worth all those efforts.
Bad Digitiser
Recently the Digitiser of my phone went bad. I tried flashing back the Stock RUU but did not succeed since it was not able to detect my phone. Then I just flashed back the backup of the stock ROM and took it to the Service Center. To my surprise the person didn't even check whether the phone was rooted lr not. Since it was out of warranty I still had to pay I still had to pay $45.
