UK T-mobile Users - feedback on reception and poll - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Could all UK T-mobile users provde feedback on how they are finding the reception on the T-mobile network? As an ex-Kaiser user, I'm finding reception is quite poor, the Diamond usually showing a couple of bars less than the Kaiser. Additionally, HSDPA performance is poor and intermittent.

Mine shipped with 25.03 and I am not impressed with the signal or data at all. I am finding it is dropping calls where my Vario II was fine.
The battery usage is quite high too so I am recharging at the moment and I think I will take the radio to 25.05 tonight....Not sure whether I should try another OS ROM.. seems too many to choose at the moment
Cheers
Aidan

I have tried all of them and now on 25.11 which seems to hold a 3g signal longer but not very strong (2bars ish) better than 25.06 but not a huge difference. I am prob thinking of moving back to 25.06 because it got more better signal for gps purposes, as i said not a huge difference in phone signal.
In all honesty Im what dissappointed i couldnt get a strong 3g signal on motorway. Oh well just wait for the next new radio to test

Radio (Phone) problems

Is it just me, or is the radio/phone reception on the Diamond really weak.
I know I'm using a UK phone in the US (so disabled HSDPA etc) but getting/maintaining a connection with either T-Mobile or AT&T is a real challenge.
WiFi and GPS work well so I know those bits are okay at least, but I don't trust it as a phone!
My Shadow (HTC Juno) and BlackJack II (T-Mo and AT&T respectively) are rock solid at home, but the Diamond spends more time searching for a signal than connected (and hence eats battery)
Is this a common problem? Any suggestions to improve things?
I'm in the UK using a UK diamond and I also find the phone signal to be very weak compared to my Tytn 2 which had an awesome reception.
I'm with Orange and I live in an area where I can only just get a signal with no bars to 1 on GPRS and always looses the signal, searches then picks it up again, now my Tytn 2 always had at least 2 bars on GPRS and sometimes even held a decent 3G signal.
Apart from the crap phone radio which should be easily fixed with a radio update the GPS and Wi-Fi is perfect, the GPS reception is much better than my Tytn 2 was and outdoors my Diamond
usually picks up 2 or 3 more sats than the Tytn 2
All the problems with the phone are software problems so give it a little time and the Diamond should be one hell of a phone
Gotta hope they hurry up with a radio update.... I'm still carrying my Shadow so people can call me and the Diamond to play the ball game
Had some weird GPS issues (with SportsDo mostly) where it just loses connection to the GPS (kinda annoying when I'm out for a ride and get no stats at the end... my BlackJack2 is perfect)
I hate the fact that any update results in a hard reset and the need to re-install/configure everything... but I'd happily to do right now to make this reliable!

orange touch diamond reception problem

Hi everyone,
I have a touch diamond under a week old, I have used it both inside and outside the house and have checked the coverage online on the orange website and also by calling customer services.
I am not getting hardly any 3G coverage and most of the time it stays fully on the G coverage and switches to 3G and quickly back again and sometimes HSDPA.
I have contacted orange and I am going to send the phone back as I am not happy with this at all.
Is there any rom i can apply I have seen the radio .25 one which apparently improves reception but would I be able to reset everything back incase this fails as well?
Please can anyone help me out I love the phone but browsing is so slow without 3g!
I am in the same boat.
My Orange reception is useless with the phone when in my house finding it hard to even get a signal.
I am fairly certain that its not the phone as I put the sim in another phone and reception was equally bad.
Luckily I also have a T-Mobile contract so will be putting the sim from T-mobile in the Orange Diamond as soon as I can get it unlocked!
Orange is good for me with stock rom and stock radio.
I live in a 2g zone in the countryside, so yes internet is a bit slow for browsing and youtube sucks but call reception is excellent.

Works fine for me
I live in Wycombe and have great reception. Always have 3G and a lot of the time I even get HSDPA. I am using original radio and TLR3 ROM. It used to work well on the original ROM but not as good as since moving to TLR, even though this shouldn't make a difference!!!

SE Responds to Signal Strength Problem

Hey guys ... I was just reading on the SE X1 blog (http://sonyericssonxperiax1.blogspot.com) something about cool X1 accessories and was very surprised when I read this:
"Other accessories include things to boost the phones use, like memory cards, an easily applicator chip to boost signal strength, car chargers to keep your Xperia working while travelling, and many others..."
Now I know that I m one among many here that think that x1 signal strength is very poor .. has anybody heard about this chip before and where can I get it, how much does it cost, how effective is it and how do you use it?
regards
I don't think that blog is official, and I highly doubt those "chips" actually work.
reception on the phone is poor. driving, building, walking... you never know when it's gonna go. pain the jane.
Those signal chips have been around for almost a decade. They don't work but don't take my word for it. Go to ebay and order yourself one.
well .. this blog isn't official ..
plus , i haven't ever faced a poor signal since i've been usin my X1

u will, i have fall signal whilst writing a text and by the time i have finished its trying to find a signal, even though i have not moved. im hoping that the r3 firmware improves this in some way, maybe release a new radio for the x1
I have any X1a on ATT and the signal sux. What's really weird I noticed is that the call is never handed off either (3G to E). Instead, it drops the call completely and then goes to Edge.

I've heard complaints about this with the iPhone 3G too. Probably an AT&T thing rather than the X1 in particular.
I'm on T-Mobile (so EDGE only), and it's been as reliable as any other phone I've had (aside from T-Mobile coverage sucking in general).

As far as I know, the signal strenght problem only affects some countries (UK, some part of USA, ...). It much depends on the operator infrastructure.
Here in Netherlands i dont have any problems with signal on 3g i can browse every where i want

i am in the uk, but my old sony w960i never had a problem. sony has already said that the signal is weaker due to the metal housing of the handset but there is a signal booster in the handset that comes on if it looses signal but sony says if drains more battery
I've the same problems too. I have to switch off the 3G/WCDMA to get the strong signal..btw, I'm from Indonesia..
yeah the signal is bad all my old SE phones had no problems but x1.....
Reception is fine here in Austria too.
And please, stay away from these chips. Only thing they do is stealing your money out of your pocket.

The problem is not with browsing... you barely notice a drop in the speed or change from 2.5G to 3G.
The problem is when calls drop or everyone else around you seems to get reception and you're still tapping 'please resend message'.
Might seem like a small problem to some but I'm doing around 2000 minutes a month and it get's on your nerves.
I like the phone so am looking for a fix / update.
Cheers,
DrSpain
Same in Belgium... No problem with the signal Strenght, often I am in HSDPA mode

This really seems to be an AT&T Problem. My X1 hands over 3G (actually 3.5) and Edge quite well during calls. I have here a low 3G signal, but good Edge signal. 3G is prefered so I´ve an handover quite often.
I'm on Vodafone in the UK and while my colleagues on the same Network have a signal using other phones, my X1 invariably does not. I usually have to go to the other side of the office to get a signal. Hope new firmware can sort the problem out.

I've got ATT/X1A in NYC and have no problem unless I'm in some basement. Perhaps the OP has limited himself by selecting a particular band and/or network type? I know if I purposely select WCDMA my 3G will drop because it's pretty spotty out here. Call quality is perfect if I have them both on Auto.
New firmware isn't going to fix it. It's a hardware issue caused by the build of the device, structure and materials used etc - they are blocking the signal slightly.

GSM and 3G sensitivity question

The original TD suffered from poor 3G reception. GSM wasn't much better either, How does the TD2 hold up on this?
Thanks
I use "3" in Australia, and reception on the Diamond2 is horrible. "3" is a 3G-only network, and GSM-roaming (which has high data roaming costs) is available.
With my old HTC TyTN II, I would get almost full 3G reception sitting in my room. Right now, with the Diamond2, I am getting 1 bar if I'm lucky. It is always dropping out to GSM.
This is a huge problem for me, as data costs is high while roaming. I am hoping that in the future, a compatible radio ROM would become available, so that I can try and get better reception.
Reception is not super, but it's all right !
GSM reception is very good ... whenever the TD2 finds a 3G network, it will only display the reception of that signal (which is lower as a standard) ... that is why reception 'seems' lower.

[Q]No 3G Reception, but lots of HSDPA

Hey everyone, long time reader, but I don't think I've ever posted before. I've had a HTC Touch Pro for a few months and I think its a great phone. Last was an iMate JASJAM.
I seem to get great HSDPA reception at my home, and a little bit in my office, but drops out all the time at work and goes back to EDGE, skipping 3G altogether.
This wouldnt normaly bother me too much, but 3 charges for going off their data network, and doesnt go towards my download cap, is additional.
I've tried out every radio that you guys have here for it, and none seem to help. And I have taken the SIM out of the phone and put it in my old JASJAM and it gets 3G reception fine in the same spot.
Maybe the actual physical antenna in the Touch Pro is very weak or something...
Any ideas peeps?
Thanks in advance
Forgot to mention, very occaisionaly in certain areas of canberra, I can get 3G reception and HSDPA, annoyingly enough, whenever I am at a 3 store
