Hi everyone,
I have a touch diamond under a week old, I have used it both inside and outside the house and have checked the coverage online on the orange website and also by calling customer services.
I am not getting hardly any 3G coverage and most of the time it stays fully on the G coverage and switches to 3G and quickly back again and sometimes HSDPA.
I have contacted orange and I am going to send the phone back as I am not happy with this at all.
Is there any rom i can apply I have seen the radio .25 one which apparently improves reception but would I be able to reset everything back incase this fails as well?
Please can anyone help me out I love the phone but browsing is so slow without 3g!
I am in the same boat.
My Orange reception is useless with the phone when in my house finding it hard to even get a signal.
I am fairly certain that its not the phone as I put the sim in another phone and reception was equally bad.
Luckily I also have a T-Mobile contract so will be putting the sim from T-mobile in the Orange Diamond as soon as I can get it unlocked!
Orange is good for me with stock rom and stock radio.
I live in a 2g zone in the countryside, so yes internet is a bit slow for browsing and youtube sucks but call reception is excellent.

Works fine for me
I live in Wycombe and have great reception. Always have 3G and a lot of the time I even get HSDPA. I am using original radio and TLR3 ROM. It used to work well on the original ROM but not as good as since moving to TLR, even though this shouldn't make a difference!!!

Could all UK T-mobile users provde feedback on how they are finding the reception on the T-mobile network? As an ex-Kaiser user, I'm finding reception is quite poor, the Diamond usually showing a couple of bars less than the Kaiser. Additionally, HSDPA performance is poor and intermittent.
Mine shipped with 25.03 and I am not impressed with the signal or data at all. I am finding it is dropping calls where my Vario II was fine.
The battery usage is quite high too so I am recharging at the moment and I think I will take the radio to 25.05 tonight....Not sure whether I should try another OS ROM.. seems too many to choose at the moment
Cheers
Aidan
I have tried all of them and now on 25.11 which seems to hold a 3g signal longer but not very strong (2bars ish) better than 25.06 but not a huge difference. I am prob thinking of moving back to 25.06 because it got more better signal for gps purposes, as i said not a huge difference in phone signal.
In all honesty Im what dissappointed i couldnt get a strong 3g signal on motorway. Oh well just wait for the next new radio to test
signal quality - Orange UK
Just changed to Diamond on Orange - updated to latest official Orange Rom 1.93.405.1.WWE and radio 1.00.25.05
I don't know if it's a diamond issue in general or an Orange issue or a faulty handset
The signal often drops to one bar or disappers, only to return to 2-3 bars a minute or 2 later
I have the option of getting the phone replaced if I'm quick, but obviously there is no point if its a common issue
If neccessary I could upgrade the radio, although this version seems to be the most popular
I have no issues with GPS lag or Wifi - just phone reception
I believe this goes to Diamond general.
I have it on Orange too, i came over from Vodafone.
To be honest i wish i had just stuck with Vodafone and waited for it to come out on there. The signal quality with Orange is just plain ****. I used to get signal everywhere in the house before, and now there are about 2 select places where i can make a phone call.
Its utter pants, i will for sure not be staying with them
At a guess I'd say your problem was with with Orange, in my experience with them signal quality is terrible.
A guy I work with was on Orange (he lives in the middle of no-where) and regularly struggled to get a signal, he is now on O2 and has full signal strength most of the time
I have same phone, ROM and Radio and have no problems at all. The signal on Orange is MUCH better than I used to get with T-mobile where I live. I also have a Vodaphone modem stick and signal type (3G etc) and strength are about the same as the Orange phone
So in summary I don't have this problem
hi i have a touch diamond orange variety and when i travel to scarborough uk i dont get calls and will just get a txt 2hrs late saying missed call and i cant send msgs out.
ive tried my htc tytn 2 and thats the same and i tried my bros omnia and thats the same.
i was wondering if anyone else had same problem either in scarborough or anywhere else on orange uk?

I'm on Orange in the UK and swapped to 3G as soon as I did I couldn't make any calls, turned out all my Phone settings were changed. On the services tab check Call Barring, Call Forwarding etc. I've gone back to my old sim only because the receiption for 3G was rubbish in my area. Hope you have better luck. tallen3
What do Orange have to say about it?
They blamed the phone, I managed to change the settings myself, Orange were less than helpful but probably about average for a phone company.
I was asking the OP!
But yes, unless you can actually see the mast with your naked eye 3G reception is a known issue with the Diamond. I have set mine to GSM only.

Orange 3G works fine for me without seeing the mast - even indoors. But that can't be the problem because if 3G reception is to weak or not available then it should revert to GPRS or Edge automatically and will still allow calls.
To the OP - is it all of Scarborough or just particular parts? Does it happen anywhere else in the UK?

The problem I have with 3G on my Orange Diamond is that although the phone just clings onto 3G indoors (about 1 mile from the nearest 3G mast) it drops down onto GSM as soon as I make a call - with associated momentary call interference - and drains the battery a lot quicker on standby (I'm syncing with Exchange every 15 mins 07:00-17:15 Mon-Fri).
If I'm 50 yards away from the mast I get HSDPA, which is handy when I'm in my car queueing at the tip, not...
hi i finally had a call from orange they now say its scarborough that doesnt have enough 3g masts and they have planning permission in for some more.
its strange everywhere else is fine even when i have lower 3g signal than scarborough.
they recommend i leave my handset on auto which doesnt work so was told everytime i go to scarborough manually turn phone to 2g.
not a perfect soloution, and i wonder why scarborough is like that? ever since they activated the hsdpa.
thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
If your phone won't auto switch between the two then it is faulty and Orange should sort it out shouldn't they? Or is it not their phone?

well it does switch between but i have a two bar 3g signal and it doesnt work for calls as explained and therefore wont switch to 2g.
thanks for all your help btw its not just my fone its most win mobile fones that my family and friends have.
Hey everyone, long time reader, but I don't think I've ever posted before. I've had a HTC Touch Pro for a few months and I think its a great phone. Last was an iMate JASJAM.
I seem to get great HSDPA reception at my home, and a little bit in my office, but drops out all the time at work and goes back to EDGE, skipping 3G altogether.
This wouldnt normaly bother me too much, but 3 charges for going off their data network, and doesnt go towards my download cap, is additional.
I've tried out every radio that you guys have here for it, and none seem to help. And I have taken the SIM out of the phone and put it in my old JASJAM and it gets 3G reception fine in the same spot.
Maybe the actual physical antenna in the Touch Pro is very weak or something...
Any ideas peeps?
Thanks in advance
Forgot to mention, very occaisionaly in certain areas of canberra, I can get 3G reception and HSDPA, annoyingly enough, whenever I am at a 3 store
Well for the longest time I've had 3G activated on my phone but I've always connected to Edge. As of late my phone has been connecting to Rogers 3G. Sometimes it's stable, most of the time it's not. Connecting to 3G usually causes my phone and data connection to reset, usually back to G or Edge, and at times even causes my phone to soft reset randomly. Just wondering what's the deal with this and if I should just turn off 3G completely.
Maybe it's something you need to call your Roger's rep about? I'm on Rogers and I get 3G very consitsantly. I've had no issues so far. I dunno could it be the rom you're using?
its most likely a software issue. Try doing a hard-reset or try a different rom. Its either that or the 3G reception in your area isn't good. Try using 3G data with a different phone to see if its the network or your phone thats causing the problem
You guys are both using the X1 right? Cause I remember for the longest time Rogers didn't broadcast the proper 3G bandwidth for the Xperia... I dunno if that's changed since the X1 came out on Rogers
are you living in like a small town type of place or areas of the city where they don't really have that many or any signal towers? because that may be part of the reason why you go into edge a lot of times.
I think reception has always been a big issue with sony ericsson phones .
I lived in calgary, and when I drive up to general N.W. areas that are higher up in sea levels (such as edgemont (a phone reception killer location because a few years ago because they never had any reception towers up there) and parts of country hills) I get terrible reception.
my w810i, z610i, and my x1 has crap reception when I get to those areas from time to time.
anyways, hopefully you'll get it all figured out soon.
3G to edge to No connection
Hi I was about to open a new thread for it, then I saw yours. At least you are getting a 3G network. Mine just keep looking for it, then it finds 3G then Edge the H (I dont even know what that is) then there is nothing!!!!! Then it restarts again..........
Anybody any idea?
thanks in advance
Haha funny thing is, I actually live in Calgary and I only get 3G when I drive up North. I live in the South and I only get Edge but when I drive up to the University or am at the University in the NW, I get 3G. And yeah I've gotten H a few times too

im using the X1a from Rogers, so it does have the 3G bands. Im pretty much on 3G all the time and in some circumstances i get 3G+, which is probably a result of Rogers' enhanced 3G network
if im not mistaken "H" stand for HSPA......which is probably the same as me getting 3G+, guess it depends on the ROM being used.
If your using the X1i......then it could explain your spotty 3G reception
In any case, if your phone is restarting then try a hard-reset
