paint chipping off keypad - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

The paint on the hard keypad buttons is chipping off between the right soft key and messaging key, it looks terrible when the backlight comes on. I've found where I can order a new keypad but don't know how to replace it. Does anyone know how to replace the front keypad of the TYTN II.

on the tytn wiki on here, I recall seeing a link to someone who'd completely disassembled one, that should provide a general basis to work off of.

Broken screen/Scratched housing replacement

Hey,
about a week ago, my kaiser fell out ouf my hand and had it's face slide across ceramic floor while being stepped on. This leaving my LCD screen smashed with a beat up/scratched face.
I have ordered the face, lcd and D-Pad buttons. The only problem is i cannot find anywhere on the web (including this side) how to replace the lcd and case. The closest i came to what i needed was the FCC site, showing the dismantled Kaiser in different peices. No instructions were provided on how to take it apart. Any help?
Check this site out. It has a guide on dismantling the Tilt/Kaiser and can be use as a reference to do what you need done.
Good luck!
BTW, where did you purchase the replacement parts?

Beautiful! Thank you.
Nice he got the guide for the kaiser
i cant find a guide that a simpleton like me could use to replace a screen, has anyone done it?
What's so hard about using the guide above??? Don't see what the issue is. If you can't do that then don't even bother opening the device.
thought i'd get that response but i can't afford to go down any other route other than do it myself. does anyone know if you have to follow the whole guide (i.e. seperating the two halves of the kaiser) to get access to the screen? also, i still cant see anything about how to replace the screen, just how to get into the back of the top half of the kaiser, could anyone elaborate on the proceeding actions required?
thanks in advance for all your help,
josh

there are a couple of posts on this site. You also need (although some have suceeded without it) a special plastic hook tool.
Check this out & GOOD LUCK, may the SCHWARTZ be with you!

Yes you must separate the two halves. There is absolutely no way getting around that.
The guides show you how to remove the screen however it does not show the actual picture of the screen outside the case. The last screen shot in the guide is the very last step you do prior to the screen being lifted out of the casing
no u don't have to seperate it completely when i did it I opened it enough to pop up the lcd and slide it out there are other users that have done the same, it all comes down to preference.
Buttons in wrong place on D-pad (outer keypad)
I bought a replacement D-pad (outer keypad) from http://cnn.cn/shop/index.php. When I received it, I found that the buttons were in different places than the original keypad on my AT&T 8925 Tilt. After installing the replacement keypad, at least the damaged keys are gone, but the stinking buttons are in the wrong place.
In the Settings menu I was able to reassign four of the eight buttons. But I still have four buttons in the wrong place. Unfortunalety this includes the green and red telephone buttons.
My question is, does anyone know where to get a replacement keypad with the correct button layout? For mine to be correct, the green and red phone buttons would be on the top.
Incidentally, I have seen this keypad in some photos of the HTC Kaiser (not newer photos).
Otherwise, if someone knew how to reassign all eight buttons, that would be just as good.
Thanks
hey imasri29 where did you find the replacement case? i did the exact same thing with mine and need a new case!

hey cwright. i bought one of those too still waiting for mine. but can you tell me if all of the icons on the buttons lights up.
The guide link no longer works, anyone have an update guide?

I found this from another thread, looks like he moved everything here from windows live storage and blog:

[Q] Stylus Problem - PLEASE HELP...

Hi,
When I pull my stylus - nothing happens... doesn't turn on or unlock device.
or during a call opens "notes".
Everything is Checked - it should do it, but it won't...
Any Ideas ???
Thanks
Take out the stylus, then remove the rear panel from your diamond. Look to see if the tiny magnet strip has become dislodged. This happened to mine after I'd had it just two days... it made it difficult to insert the stylus, and it just felt all wrong, because the strip had stuck itself in an awkward position. It also wouldn't recognize when the stylus was withdrawn.
I very nearly returned my diamond under warranty, until I looked closely at the stylus aperture and noticed this issue. I fixed it with a tiny spot of super glue on the magnetic strip and deft use of some plastic tweezers... saved days of re-programming a replacement.
Mr. Orange owes me a beer I reckon ;-)
Thanks for the reply...
The magnetic strip is there... I feel the magnet working...
but the diamond doesn't recognize when its in or out...
Anyone ?? Help - is it hardware or software ????
also a problem with the magnet strip
I own my diamond now for three weeks and something went wrong with the magnetstrip..it looks like it is still inplace but the magnetic force is stronger on the outside of the phone then on the inside (where its supposed to be) I'm trying to move te strip in the right position. but is not working.(seems like te strip is in the correct position)
It just happened. Really annoying..The phone goes on when I remove the stylus. (and the stylus is holding , but I don't get "the magnetic snap anymore"

Keyboard Light problem

Hi ppl! I recently purchased a Kaiser replacement housing with keyboard to substitute my old and damage keyboard. I followed the procedure described in the HTC thecnical manuals and got the phone back together. After booting up i found out that the keyboard doesn't light up neither the CAPS and FN key when I press them but all the keys work! I tried the old keyboard back and works perfectly but when I put the new one it just doesn't light up... Anyone as any idea of what might be causing this problem? I suspect it's hardware problem but I'm not sure and I don't have any software that allows me to test if the hardware is alright... If anyone can help I would be very thankfull... I went through the forums and seems none eve had this problem...

Kaiser Woes

Want to see if any other Kaiser users have had these two problems and if they have any fix:
1. Keyboard buttons aren't responsive (about half), meaning you have to press them hard for them to work. I'm suspecting this is from the sweat when i'm at the gym but then again it could be a keyboard aligning problem.
2. When I slide out the keyboard, the screen flickers in two places in a circular manner.
I know both are hardware issues so if anybody has any ideas, i'd appreciate it.
I have the same problem with unresponsive keys. I've had it a while and I've never used the keyboard with wet or dirty fingers. A friend got the same phone at the same time and has always had a more responsive keyboard, even from new.
If anyone has any ideas on fixing it, I'm all ears.
I'm curious, has anybody fixed their Kaiser's keyboard with the keys needing to be pressed hard in order to work?
Hard to press buttons
Im assuming it just needs cleaning out but any other ideas? Going to look for guides to take apart just hope it doesnt void a warranty
spray some windex on it.

Were you successful in doing this? I don't mind opening up the Kaiser, I just want to know what i'm doing and what the culprit is.

Removing keys on front panel

Hi. I have a problem with the buttons on the front panel. The up key (those over the optical keypad) are not working properly - it stays in almost clicked state, and even touching a button near this one activates the up key.
Can anyone tell me how I can open/disassemble the front keypad. In youtube all I've found is front panel/rear panel disassembly, but I can not see how to remove the buttons from the front keypad. And even if I guy a new housing, it does not include the panels on the front keypad. So I need to fix that problem by myself.
1) the video on youtube doesn't show you how you get the front keys out, but ince you've folled the video you pretty jus pull the keys out from behind!
2) if you get the proper OEM housing it does come with the keys (but not the optical one/Enter) go to cnn.cn, it can be found there

Thanks man! You really helped with the first comment. I've opened my X1 and fixed the problem with the key. Soon I'll have to clean up my keyboard (Fn key, and space are not always working).
