Exchange sync - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi guys,
I don't really know if this is the right place to post. If it isn't, please move it to the right section.
After almost two days I've been able to make the MS direct push work with my Kaiser and my exchange server.
One think I've noticed so far is that if I get an email and this email is moved to a folder by a rule, I will still get it on my kaiser, but it won't notify it by playing the sound neither showing the email counter on the home screen.
Anybody knows if it is possible to solve this issue?
Thanks.

which version did you use
hi,
which version did you use exchange 2003 or exchane 2007
if you use exchange 2007 you have to put your certificate on your phone
else it will NOT work
believe me i also got i working after a couple of days
now i am using exchange 2007 with all the options running !!

I'm using Exchange 2003 SP2.
By the way, it IS actually working, just I don't get any notice about the new emails that go directly in some folders.

I wrote to one of the Microsoft windows Mobile developers Jason Langridge (http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/default.aspx ) a while back about this and it is not currently possible to be notified with WM6 or 6.1. It is something they are going to consider for WM7 which isn't really helpful to your cause.
I hadn't seen this before, but maybe this is what you are looking for http://www.watchflag.com/home
Flexmail 4 might be able to do it: http://www.pocketinformant.com/products_info.php?p_id=mail&dir=wm although there was a problem with MAPI last time I looked.

How do you create or put your certificate on your phone? I have the same problem with Exchange 2007.

The basics of it are to open your Outlook Web Access page on your PC and 'export' the certificate by clicking on the padlock on the bottle right of the window. Then copy this certificate to your Kaiser, and assuming you are using a ROM from these forums you should be able to just open it in File Explorer and your'll get a message saying the certicate was installed successfully.

WM6 HTML Email Question

First of thanks to all you guys for such an amazing forum, I really have learned a great deal from reading the posts.
That said, I'm running WM6 PV3 version on my MDA with push mail enabled from an exchange server (mail2web). I receive mail no problem but am unable to view HTML mail, I thought that was a feature of of WM6? I have a "Get HTML" under Menu/View, but it's grayed out - what gives? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks all!
The Exchange server needs to be running Exchange 2007 for HTML on WM6.

That's what I figured. Thanks for saving me a great deal of aggravation in trying to fix WM6 when the issue is with the Exchange server.

Thank you, I was just getting ready to SEARCH all over creation. But your answer saved me a lot of time...
mail2web Exchange Servers
When will you upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2007?
Answer: mail2web.com is planning to upgrade all customers from our current Exchange 2003 platform to the new Microsoft Exchange 2007 platform, after its release. All customers Business Exchange Professional customers will receive a free upgrade to Outlook 2007. Microsoft Exchange 2007 is expected to be released in early 2007. The timing of this upgrade is still to be determined and is in part dependant on the release date of Exchange 2007.

that's what I got from the support:
First mail:
According to that site and others that have tested WM6 on 4SmartPhone, if you are using a legitimate version of WM6 you get HTML email for ActiveSync. That feature does not require Exchange 2007.

After telling them that this doesn't make sense I got a second mail:
We do not offer Exchange 2007 to our customers yet, and we know that some features of WM6 (like server-side mailbox search) do require Exchange 2007 to work.
However, HTML email does work on WM6 devices when used in conjunction with Exchange 2003 SP2, and that is what the people who reported did, using a normal 4SmartPhone account.

4smartphone
I just tried the 4smartphone Pro service to see if it would work for me on WM6I would love to be able to get my HTML mail but I believe this really is a feature we will need to wait for Exchange 2007 to provide. Does anyone know a way to get HTML mail to work? I am using emoze right now and love the push mail,Calendar, tasks that it pushes through. I dont like leaving my computer on but its on most of the time anyway. If anyone has a better inexpensive solution I would love to hear it. Thanks to all in this forum I am just a big nooooob here and love all this stuff.

I ordered an account from this outfit today
http://www.itsolutionsnow.com
I will let you know how it works out.
I have been using mailstreet but I don't want to wait around for them to upgrade.
http://www.itsolutionsnow.com offers unlimited storage and wireless active sync for only $10 a month USD
Mailstreet is $13 a month for 100meg $4 a month for wireless active sync and $6 a month for an extra 100 meg
I got my new setup instructions very quickly from them and this guy billy was very helpful in setting up some special features for me.
It works great. I love the new outlook web access also. Setup was a snap. From my experience so far I would recomend this company.
Computer9Cowboy are you getting HTML mail through the service? I tried 1and1 and 4smartphone and could not get the HTML part to work on WM6. Please let me know if this works. Thanks,

If you can live without push mail, POP3 already supports html email. It doesnt matter what server you use. I host my own email on a FreeBSD box here at home. I just have WM6 set to check mail every 15 minutes. I personally dont feel the need to know about email the split second it arrives, so POP3 works for me.

Yes indeed ITSolutionsNow has Exchange 2007, I can do HTML Email, I can set flags on messages and I can do server side search from the device. Plus I merged my archive back in to my account because they support unlimited storage. I don't have to worry about staying under my limit or purchasing extra space.

Exchange is more than push email it is contacts and calendar also. If I add new info to a contact in outlook it is on my device in seconds. When I add a new date in my calendar on my device it is on my computer in seconds. The new ability to flag messages from the device is pretty useful also.
On a sidenote I've just heard back from mail2web that they are currently testing Exchange 2007 and that they should be going live with it in the summer.

I understand that. I guess it just all depends on how you are using your device. Those features are a lot more useful for a business environment. I use mine for personal use. As infrequently as I update my calendar and contacts, cable syncing is fine for that, and pop3 is adequate email for my uses.
I do understand the advantages of push mail and contacts/calendar syncing. I have a blackberry 7520 that I use for work, and as the exchange and BES server admin, I could easily setup push mail on my XDA, the only problem is I need use of the direct connect radio in the 7520, so for now I keep the 7520 for work use, and the XDA for personal use.

Yes Mailstreet says they will have it by June.
I have to say that IT Solutions Now is the best deal that I have seen for hosted exchange anywhere, Unlimited storage is huge.

And this is why I'm leaving 4smartphone in 2 weeks when my yearly subscription is expired. I told them that I would like to have HTML email and they told me that they are not deploying 2007 for another 6 months. I'm a reseller for intermedia.net so I'm going to switch over to them.

WM6 and Exchange email issue

I'm using the Orwell WM6 rom and having problem syncing email with Exchange via GPRS. I can sync calendar and contacts with no problem and desktop sync is ok for email. But everytime I sync 'over the air' my email inbox ends up empty.
It all works perfectly with WM5.
I've read a few posts about problems with Exchange sync but haven't seen any solutions. Does anyone know how to fix this? This might be the only thing that sends me back to WM5 and I really don't want to do that unless I have to.
Thanks.
I tried to reproduce this error but have not been able to... I am using the PDAVIET3 WM6 ROM though, I use push-email and havent had a single issue with this ROM. Maybe you might want to try that wm6 version ( or pdaviet4 )
cheers
hmm I wonder if its because my Exchange is 2003 SP1. I sync on a schedule rather than push. Maybe SP2 is needed to sync with Exchange mail. Its a work server so I have no say in getting it upgraded.
I'll try one of the pdaviet roms. Thanks for the suggestion.
See if your IT guy can run through the settings. The only thing I could think of is he might not have the "Enable unsupported devices" checked. The screen below is of an Exchange server with SP2 installed. I assume that option is also in SP1.
Exchange 2003 SP2 is required to have Pushmail available, the scheduled synch should already work with SP1
I'd have your IT guy check the event logs on the Exchange box ...
I know it's not your decision but I'd really enjoy hearing the rational of your IT dept not installing SP2...
I remember when SP4 for NT blew up several of my servers (gotta love that BSOD!) but this update has been out for over a year and is considered critical.. and quite stable. Actually more stable than SP1...
Steven
MCSE / CCNA
Thanks for those suggestions guys. But it looks like I've got it fixed.
Before flashing one of the pdaviet roms I thought I'd hard reset the Orwell rom and see if that made a differance. And email is now syncing sweetly!
To make it even stranger, before the hard reset I found I could sync my sent items in email if I enabled that, just not the main inbox. Really strange.
I'm now reluctant to add any of the fixes in the Orwell rom for camera, mms etc. just in case they give me the old problem. But who cares. Exchange email sync is number 1 on my list.
Cheers.

Goodlink

I am using goodlink on my TILT and when i go to send an sms it doesnt pull my goodlink contacts only my sim contacts.. any clue how to access goodlink contacts for sms?
The Windows Mobile OS will only pull up the native contact list. If you are using ver 5 of GoodLink you can get the GoodLink server IT admin guys to be sure that the one way (that is from GoodLink to your native contacts) is enabled on your phone.
According to GoodLink literature the reason for this functionality is just for this reason and for things like Voice Command (or other voice dialers) that also use the native contact list. In this case the OS uses the native contact list for SMS msgs

Quick question .. how did you get goodlink on your tilt...my restore from backup method did not seem to work. Did you do an OTA install?
EDIT: See my solution posted below
What version of Goodlink are you running?
Do you know if your admin guys have upgraded to ver 5?

Just figured it out ... problem was I had goodlink on my 8525 too (which as of about 20 mins ago, when the fedex guy got here, is being retired), and I could only have it on one device at a time. Once I figured that out, just got a new PIN for the Tilt and it seems to be running the OTA provisioning without a problem.

Mine pushed out 4.9.3.21 and it's working just fine...
I got our admin guys to upgrade to 5.0 then upgraded (it automatically loaded it). It looks a little different to 4.93. its not that much of a big deal except you get a nice RSS and the ability to make a calendar appointment private (finally). BUT admin gets to see all the apps you have on your Kaiser and they can lock anything out! you can also get your admin ppl to allow good contacts to be used for native lookup (phone, sms etc.) but it didnt seem to function as well as activesyncing contacts (it doesnt show company name - in fact it doesnt sync company name and you end up with lots of UNNAMED contacts).
I also had a couple of issues on the install becuase Activesync forces you to add a password and Good doesnt like this when it installs. tyherefore in the end i did it via ahard reset.
All in all, its a luittle better. im testing it for stability before they roll it out to thers where I work.
Please report back on the experience - It would be great to know how things work before I try an push for the upgrade as well.
How well does that RSS work, and is it only set up on the phone, or does it sync with your Outlook acct? (ie - is it a box in your exchange account like the native rss support in Outlook 2007)
Good vs. BBC
I have used goodlink for years starting on my treo 650 then my trusty (kind of) 8525. The whole separate contacts thing really annoyed me so when I got my tilt I switched to, dare I say, blackberry connect. As opposed to using separate software to manage the calendar and contacts, it uses the built in wm apps so the contacts issue goes away. Just something to think about if you have the option to use either one...

Hi,
Something I have already done but they all sends us to the exchange server ...
The issue is that niothing changed on the exchange server and I was able to sync wth my S710 .... why no with the TYTN2?
Hi there,
I get the same problem on my Tilt only not all the time. Usually my phone works fine, but then about once a day I go into active sync and notice that I have this error and I have to soft reset my phone and sync again. Then it goes away for about another 24hrs. before I have it again and have to soft reset.
I posted a topic about this and have tried googling it also to no avail.
If anyone has figured it out I'd appreciate it.
It sounds like you don't have permission to sync with that phone.
Try going to the your oma (outlook mobile access) site with a computer, then your phones browser. I'm not exactly sure the url of your outlook mobile access, but it should be something similar to this:
Webmail URL = https://companyurl.com/exchange
OMA URL = https://companyurl.com/oma
If you can access the basic oma mail, you should be able to access exchange to sync so check your settings. If you get an access denied error, contact your nearest IT person.
Dave
I fixed it by opening up Outlook 2003 on my PC, going to Help and then running "Detect and Repair". Has worked flawlessly sense then. *knocks on wood*
more info
what did you do to fix the issue in outlook 2003. Is that on you pc at work or at home? My issue is the same, except that my pc at work is connected to the network it does not access the exchange server over the web. I have been beating my head against a wall since I got the phone, and I can't get it to sync over the air. And was your phone hooked to the pc when you did this?. Thanks

Unable to add an exchange email account, with a self certificated certificate. (SSL).

I recieved my new Nokia Lumina 920. I was some what disgruttled to find that i was unable to add, my companies email account using a self signed certificate. On my Android mobile using the same certificate, everything is added and works perfect.
What is so diffierent using Windows phone 8, using self signed certificate. And if there is a fix, can you let me know how to install it correctly.
The following error message appears when sync takes place
"There is a problem with the certificate for (domain name) contact your support person or your service provider. Last tried 5 minutes error code 80048888"
Exchange version : Exchange 2010
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I know this will not help but, I did this myself to setup an Exchange 2003 server with a Self signed cert, I had no problem installing it (downloaded it via a hotmail account and just touched it to open it/install it)
I have done this on 7.5 and 8.0 with no problems at all. A problem with your cert ? Is it expired ?
Make sure you reboot your phone after you install the Cert, I had that issue with 7.5, it would not see it till a reboot...

Your phone should honor the Exchange CAS Server's certificate if you install the certificate of the CA which issued the certificate for the server.
And keep in mind that the principle name in the certificate should match the DNS name that your are using to connect to the server.
You will have to install the public key certificate of the CA issuing your self signed certificate. The certificate itself won't be enough as it can't be verified as when the phone checks up the path of trust it won't recognize the signing certificate. Hope that makes sense?

Hi Guys, you have solved my problems. Excellent support keep it up. I eventually exported the public key and installed it directly into the phone now my Nokia 920 works beautifly. One more question, I did get an error 85030028 and googling this said to go into IIs, click on active sync, then select SSL and tick ignore client certs... is that the correct way to active sync.. well the main thing is the phone is syncing as normal.
Thanks again

Haven't dealt with this myself but I guess it is possible that the phone tried to authenticate using one of the certificates you installed previously instead of using the credentials you provided but it's really just a guess. As long as SSL is still enabled the encryption should work and I see no issues with the setup.
If the setting causes ActiveSync to sync over HTTP instead of HTTPS that would be a concern so I would check if that is the case.
