I've tried everything and I don't want to do a hard reset. Currently it won't let me use my gps, i tried download quick gps and that didnt change anything, I tried changing around the com ports, it just never worked since the start.
gps tool says
Fix not available for gnss dop and active satlaties
GPS fixed data says lattitude and longitude of a bunch of 0's
I see a bunch of red dots when I click on satelites? but it also says mode 2: fix not availible on the bottom of that screen

Try flashing the radio with the same version you use now. It's an effective way of resetting the GPS. Has worked for me before. Actually as late as yesterday

just tried the quadband radio update and it didn't work

Send it back for a new one.

Have you installed VOIP , that killed my gps?

I am also having the same problem, If i use the GPS tool or similar it can see 2 or 3 satalites but does not ever get a fix, really annoying!!!
Can anyone confirm for me if i should have assisted gps enabled or disabled (keep reading mixed info so i dont know if this works or not)
Many thanks
Paul

I had problems with the GPS too but now works great.
1) go outside !
2) disable A-GPS features ( Parameters -> Advanced GPS ), you can try to re-enable it later
3) let window Manage GPS ( Parameters -> GPS (third tab) -> check Let windows manage...)
4) launch HTC GPS Tool ( you will find links in the forum, search for this tool)
5) Open the right Port (as configured in Pameters -> GPS (first tab) )
6) Wait !!! ( for me it takes between 1 and 2 minutes to have a fix when outside )

k so i tried that, disabled a-gps, soft-booted device, checked settings in control panel (com 4, non, 4800, windows managed). Loaded gps tool stood outside and have 10 mins i can see the satalites but it is not locking or fixing my position. I also notice that on the satalite view i can see 5 red bars then they disappear for a few seconds then come back again, is this normal

Ok i never saw Red bars
only grey when no fix and blue when get a fix.

You have to hard reset your phone, believe me it's works after that. Some peeps had the same problem.

Yep, tried that too,, did hard reset this morning after reading that it works on another thread. Still nothing,
I am using TLR V3 Firmware and the 025 radio.

I am using the same radio as you though with elite 3.0. I haven't managed a fix yet, not with this or dutty's v2 with its included radio.
with the stock rom and 0.9 radio I could get a fix fine.
I had exactly the same problem as this on my kaiser. bloody annoying and not a problem I ever experiencd with my n95. perhaps it is something to do with nokia testing their products properly, who knows.

try this,
Advance your clock so that quickgps gets outdated, update quickgps
put back the clock to the correct time, quickgps will get outdated again, dont update quickgps, try to get a fix, will take sometime cause the GPS is cold booted now
then update quickgps after that

Where is this parameters and advanced gps tab?

Thanks for the advise i tried it but still nothing.
In GPS tool i can see lots of satlites but it will not get a fix and along the bottom of the screen i have about 5 red bars (i guess these are the satalites it is talking to)
this is getting really frustrating as i want to use this device as my sat nav, I will buy tomtom once i know it is working but i dont want to if it is going to be a waste of money

YAY I Got it Fixed
HI
Thanks again for everyone who has replied to help out with this. I have managed to find a fix.
I found this thread over at expansys
http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?k=100176
Installed the piece of software discussed in this thread, it looked at the gps and reported that it is acutally running at 9600 baud, the peice of software also picked up a fix in less than 30 seconds,
So i loaded up HTC GPS tool, set it to comm 4, 9600 and started in in hot start mode, stright away i get a fix.
Now i am really happy

Having Problems with GPS and AT&T Tilt

I purchased a tilt about 2 weeks ago and have been using the gps fine with navadi htc gps tool, ms live search, and google maps. In fact im on a trip in san diego today and i was using the gps earlier today with google maps. I was lost for a while and i couldnt get the gps to work google maps wouldnt lock onto a sattelite, next i went into the windows settings and it wouldnt save anything under the hardware tab. After searching the net and not getting anywhere i decided to run clear storage to reset the tilt. I reset it and now google maps says it cant find a gps device at all. So i installed and ran the htc gps tool. When the device is set to communicate on com 4 htc gps tool says open com port failed. When i change the windows options and htc tool options to communicate on com 3, htc gps tool gives me no errors but also doesnt report any data being recieved. Im really hoping the gps isnt broke i didnt do anything to the phone physically to damage the gps but i have been running the phone at 57600 baud instead of 4800. If anyone has any experince with this gps unit or has had this problem i would appreciate any help. Also if its agreed this is just a phone problem is there usually a warantee or should i use the at and t insurance i bought whats the best rout here im not sure if i saved the phones recipt.
learn to use the enter button on your keyboard...and try turning agps off
i just checked agps it is off
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
EnableAGPS=0
is there anything else i could try. Like i said i did clear the storage so everything should be back to default settings.

Instead of just saying "problem solved", how about letting the rest of us know what happened....sorry rant over
acually im not quite sure what i did. I just set everything back to defualt in the gps settings com 4 at 4800 baud and the gps tool was able to communicate with the gps again.
Im just not quite sure what i did, i mean orginally it wasnt working with the default settings .
Also ive been having a real hard time getting gps locks lately i find myself having to use gps tool to constantly clear the gps memory, then i have to reopen it and preform a hot start. I never had to do tat befhore this problem. I have regular quick gps updates too. When i open gps tool it just tells me mode 2 fix not available. This happens after using google maps 2 or 3 times.

Have you been playing with the "External GPS" application? That's known to cause serious problems with the GPS, even requiring a hard reset (although I saw work being done to restore some registry settings to default to avoid needing the hard reset)
I dont think so im not even sure what the external gps application is. I use a tilt so i dont have all the cool htc stuff ive downloaded and installed google maps, ms live search, quickgps, and the navadi htc gps tool. I did a hard reset and am still having trouble locking the gps in with out using gps and clearing the gps.
Strange part is i was on a trip and google maps was working fine all day and for weeks before the trip. All the sudden it just stoped getting a lock. Didnt drop the phone change any software settings or anything.
you most likely didnt have to do a hard reset...to get a good gps lock you need to download satelite information through QuickGps every 6 days but i do it everytime i use my gps through live search to get a god satelite fix everytime. and with the externa gps settings i set it to any port usually com 0 and never mess with the software tab , only hardware...the baud rates too you dont need to mess with that, just choose a com, quickgps download and soft reset u should always get a fix...if thir are still problems search for gps tweaks

GPS doen't work in my HTC Diamond

I purchased my HTC Touch Diamond few days ago and I have the following problems:
Item 1:
After testing several programs (Tomtom7, googlemaps, etc.) internal GPS has never work.
QuickGPS works ok (because in reality only uses the data connection).
The phone was originally with ROM 1.37.456.2, and I also tried with Elite 1.0 ROM. With both ROMs internal still do not work.
Any suggestion?
Item 2:
When I receive a call usually the "Answer" button is pressed in the case involuntarily. Thus the call is answered without knowing it.
Is there any way to minimize this problem?
Of course I appreciate any suggestions.
Ricardo from Uruguay.
Do you have A-GPS (Assisted GPS) enabled with AdvancedConfig ?
If so, disable it.
Very strange...
Can you give us your Radio version ?
Did change something ont the GPS settings ?
Please find the solution at my post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408560
GPS doesn't work
I have Agps Disable.
I have already done many Hard Resets.
Now I am using "HTS GPS Tool". In the setting tab aI can see a lot of information coming, but Satellites used is 0.
Of course no other navigation software is working.
Do you recommend any other ROM?
Thanks in advace for any suggestion.
Ricardo.
I have the same problem
I have AGPS disable
The first time, i run my tomtom 6, it works very well, after i reboot my diamond, it doesnt work any more, i wait all the time for the signal GPS
I use the original ROM, but i dont think it is the ROM problem
This is a common problem.
Don't bother messing around with settings it wont work, just do a hard reset and the GPS should come back

everybody do that ?
If your programs wont access GPS, and you get no GPS by altering the 'external GPS' to com port 4 (program) and Com 0 or 2 (hardware) and ticking the 'let windows manage GPS' box, then GPS will not appear unless you do a hard reset

so, do u mean that, one time i do a soft reset, then a hard reset have to be done for GPS?
My Diamond once lost the ability to get any GPS signal, but this is how I fixed it...
1. Go to "externalGPS" then "Access" tab then Untick the checkbox then hit ok
2. Turn the device off
3. Turn it back on then tick the checkbox then hit ok
It should now find a signal (May take about 2 mins the first time)
I've spent hours reading every thread on here and other forums about GPS not working and changing every com port in gps manager, and nothing worked.
Its just so much quicker to do a hard reset.
Don't waste your time. If you can't get GPS back by changing the com port settings a couple of times, then don't mess with it all night. Do a hard reset and get on with your life
I had similar issues. Seemed to get solved for me by repeatedly selecting and uselecting the "Use GPS" in Google maps. Not sure if it's the same issue but it solved it in my case.
My gps stopped working, too. When I pleaded for help here, Akito gave me this solution:
"The HTC GPS tool is for download at http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853...C_GPS_TOOL.cab and it's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 .
In the first screenshot in that thread you can see a drop-down box which says "hot start". What I do is to first click the button "open"... then in the tab "sattelite" my problem gets confirmed (can't see any sattelite then). I go back to the first tab, I click the drop-down box, select "cold start", click Nav. Init. click the button close and immediatly open.... et voila, it works again. Sounds quite complicated, however once you've done it a 1st and 2nd time, it's a piece of cake lol"
It worked immediately. Try it - and you will send the kindest thoughts to Akito, too.
When I used HTC tool, the only port that could be opened was port 3 and 7. After opening either of these, when I pressed INIT, I got the response "Unable to Send NMEA command"
So there was definitely some problem with the GPS being "seen"

Maybe one of the guru here can help you,

Those are the settings I have as well!!
I lost gps functionality after flashing to a new ROM.
Radio .07 and doing a "warm start" in htc gps tools got it working again, now from cold (ie initialising device to getting lock) is 25 seconds. (20 seconds to initialize gps, 5 seconds to get a lock!)
Try using gps gate,it will automatically configure gps settings and then start destinator,it should detect the inbuilt gps receiver and give you a fix,I had exactly the same problem with destinator 7, it just would not detect gps after using gps gate everythings fine, hope this helps.

Changed the radio but still the same .It will not find any satellites.Maybe the gps chipset is %^$%$#.
ok, your GPS module is detcted, right?
In GPS test, can you see signal of satelites or not?
Flash your radio again and do intermediate hard reset before phone fully boots. If doesn't work flash both rom and radio (hard reset after each!). Just had the same problem on my diamond (solved today) and had it in the past on Kaiser. GPS detected, gps tool see sats but they are permanently red and flat (like they wouldn't have any strengh at all) And its always to do with radio so don't worry about your chipset.
I just read another thread and found this:

POST394:
Hi,
After i had some GPS-Problems (no Sattelite link etc.) i tested many combinations on my own. At the End this works on two Diamonds:
1. Follow the "Unlock description" if necessary
2. Flash your ROM (i used the AZTOR V6)
3. Hard-Reset your Device! <- Important
4. check Com-Port
5. Cold Boot yor GPS
6. Warm Boot yor GPS
7. Hot Boot your GPS
8. No link-Problems, no Lags and very fast Sattelite link (after a few Tests: First Sattelite Link ca. 2 min. After first using GPS ca. 20 sec. to Sattelite-Link)
Important: After installing "Sensor-Lock" my GPS was completely Dead.
I don`t read the completely Thread but i hope this is a little bit helpful.
Greetings
Jerry

Help with GPS

I tried everything and i am jst giving up. what can i do to make this friggin gps work? I followed everything meticulously on ppcgeeks http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36639 without any luck. google maps keeps search for satelites, and nothing. always number is zero. do you have any idea what could be wrong? i am on telus cdma network btw.
hi friend...
1st in which area of this sad world do you live??
2nd what is your mobile operator??
3rd do you have a costant/flat umts/gprs connection trought your mobile??
bye,
davide
i live in toronto. i had blackberry curve before this and the gps was smooooth.
this one is being alil biatch.
i am with telus
the third question i don't understand, but my blackberry curve was also with telus, for a week before diamond arrived and the gps was excellent. i don't know why diamond gps is so screwed up. as i said, my diamond is the cdma version. any help is much appriciated, thank you.
I think to know what can be... I mean that happened something similiar to me, but because I cook a new rom every week the problem has disapperead itself.
Anyway I think it can depend by an old problem relative to a dns library that can be overwritten by some software, like for ex some voip software, this cause the internal gps to stop working.
Just tell me if your gps is detected, I mean if your software (for ex tomtom) searches for sats or it says something similar to "gps not found".
If your gps is detected but the software searches sats for infinite time you must look this procedure:
I strongly suggest, just for have a fast response, to use a software like "gps tool" (download from here): go in an open space & install the cab file, then choose com4 => select "clear memory" => & finally "open", go to information window & wait for at least 5 minutes (you must be patient the 1st time), until you read: mode 2D fix... the bars go from red to green, when you have a fix press (in the 1st page) "nav init", after few seconds you can press "close" & exit the program, now open you favorite nav software & you'll get a fix in few seconds.
Instead if your gps isn't detetced you must look this procedure:
hard reset your mobile, because your dns dlls are corrupted
let me know if you have results... bye,

yup!work for me too!
hey ninja, lol. how's it going
suiller thanks for the help. i am going to give that a try. i hard reset my rom. i am on juicy 2.5. but it didn't change much. do you think if your first option does not help. i should flash another rom, maybe stock rom, and then put the one i want?
it depends... like mentioned above if your GPS works it just a gps cache problem, in fact soon as cooked the gps cache is empty or corrupted, so it must be reinitialized, doing so the 1st time takes long time
instead if your gps isn't detected, you can check in a minute also by lanuching gps tool, it is yet configured to look at com4 (default com port for gps in htc brand, the problem is somewhere else, I mean that probably the problem could be also in the rom you are using, if the 1st procedure does not work, try to restore your original rom, before carrying back your mobile for warranty be sure it isn't "self-mistake" (for ex by installing an "unofficial" rom)
for what I can say I cooked almost everything & just happened one time, many months ago in my opinion 99,9% of cooked roms doesn't touch gps at all, so I sincerely didn't remember what's happened that time
bye,
davide
hi. thanks for all the help guys.
i tried the gps tool. i installled it and selected clear memory, open, and it never stopped going through the numbers. same numbers again and again, but when i clicked setting it said mode 2 not fixed.
if i recall properly, the gps message i got from google maps was gps not found, but i am not sure ithat it's the rom's fault. it's very popular on ppc geeks. i tried qualcom method to solve the problem but it did nothing. mdata, info, is saved on my hone but no change. so i will try disabling agps, if no help i hard eefresh, or put another rom, if all faili go to fet it replaced, again.
thanks for all you support
ok, i reflashed to stock rom, tried the gps tool, it keeps showing the same method and won't stop. do i need to wait for it to stop?, cuz when i go to information it says mode 2 not fixed.
i am going to hard refresh, and put juicy 2.5 back on, and wait for your help. if nothing i will take it to the store.
I hope you don't have A-GPS cofigured...this will surely screw up your GPS
in tweak diamond, agps is enabled. when i disable it and go to quick gps, it gives me an error, when its enabled quick gps downloads.
should i disable a-gps in tweak diamond?
sure friend, AGPS should be disabled if your provider isn't able to "provide" you that service, beucase it takes busy over & over your gps chipset
there 3 modes to update gps sats positioning:
1) quickgps, simply it's a database where are stored circles/ellipses made by sats, because they are always the same, that data are predicted, so for this reason those values are good also for the near future (at max 1 week), this is the "old" method used by years to make fixing times faster, even if resulting position isn't very accurate
2) AGPS, this should be the last & most intelligent feature, of course your provider must be able to provide that data, if your provider can do this it simply compares your current position (cell broadcast) with the ones stored in their database, and provides automatically to your mobile (trought a regular gprs or umts service) updates positioning, if your provider isn't able to provide this service your gps chipset will be always busy because it scans the network continuosly and other software like for ex tomtom wont be able to access the gps chipset anymore because like told above it is busy by another application
3) classical method, I call old school, and this is also the more realistic method, even if 1st time can take very long and if you don't use very much your navi software it is very annoying because sats runs fast simply it needs a program like gps tool or gps test to full the gps cache (1st time is totally empty), where will be stored current sats position (circles/ellipses), this method can also be reached with last modern navi software, like for ex tomtom7, you must leave it runs until it finds something, remember that 1st time can take up to 20 minutes... it depends also by region & sky conditions, in general in a good environment (ex openspace) for me & in my experience it never took over 5/10 minutes
so if your provider doesn't provide AGPS service simply turn it off and re-run the 3rd method in an open space and you'll see that something will happen
anyway if trought gps tool you are able to open the com4 port and you see data flows it means that your gps chipset is recognized, you have just to wait, if you want a faster/simpler app search here around for "gps test"... simply run it, it detects automatically your gps com port & starts to discover sats
hoping to have cleared something about gps system
bye,
davide
ok, i reflashed stock telus rom, then i flashed juicy 2.5, hard reset and here i am. i got diamond tweak, disabled a-gps:
with a-gps disabled, quickpgs does not update any more. gives me an error at the end.
so i am going to do clear memory with gps tool, but does baudrate matter? when i turn it on it is set at 5600 should i change it to 4800?
do i need to be in an open area when clearing memory, or it does not matter?
if this wont work, i will go in throug hqualcom, and make sure i have the settings posted on ppc geeks forum. i hope something will turn up.
what is the connection though. if a-gps is disabled, quick gps does not download. but when its enabled it does. does it mean telus supports a-gps or it shows that there is an internal problem with my gps?
thanks for all the help.
i installed gps test. it shows yellow circle and GPS starting up. above it shows hdop 50.00 Fix 1D, and baudrate is set at 9600.
does this also take a long time, or is it a good sign. if it shows this, does it mean my gps is working, but only needs to be reconfigured somewhow?
i was just outside for 1 hour, with the gps tool turned on. nothing. it keeps clearing memory, or so it says, but when i look the same numbers show up. i waited for an hour till it got dark and cold and went back. gps test shows starting up gps but never getsa round to it either.
i duno what to do anymore.
ah, where is everyone?
holy crap, finally, i solved it.
I had the same problem after setting AGPS in Advanced Configuration Tool. Nothing I did: soft reset, hard reset even installing new ROM resolved the issue. Finally I found the problem: Go to Programs-settings-phone-services-Location setting-get settings-On. This allows your phone to tell your GPS where you are. The GPS now finds satellites in a few seconds.

it was an old habit of disabling gps to emergency only. i didn't realize it would screw me over on a pda. well. nice nice nice.
thanks for all your help everyone, you ahve been great.
this means that your mobile provider supports AGPS feature
so it must turned on... well done

Locked GPS

Hi I have a T-Mobile Compact IV (HTC Diamond I believe) and my GPS has just stopped working. It comes with CoPilot LIve 7 Trial and has been working fine until I bought the licence code for the full version.
Now it says there is 'No GPS Signal' when I run CoPilot. I have tried QuickGPS and Google Maps (both pre installed like CoPilot) and neither of thoses apps work either!
I have read that the GPS chicp could be locked? Anybody came accross this problem before or have a solution to this. I have emailed T-Mobile, HTC and the makers of CoPilot. Seems like nobody is interested in helping now that I have shelled out for a licence code.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
GPS chip cannot be "locked" out...forget that
There are a number of great threads relating to GPS issues exactly as you described (too numerous to list though...) suggest you have a quick search and move on from there...
I expect that you need to clear the embedded data (use HTC GPS Tool, and clear memory) and then be patient for a first fix.......confident this will work for you
i'd also recomend GPS Tool, its availible here.
Just download the .cab file and run it on your MDACIV
Thanks for the reply guys. I have downloaded and tried the HTC GPS tool and it doesn't seem to find anything. All I get is the error 'Failed to send NMEA command'.
I have just downloaded Google Maps and tested that with the GPS setting and it just sits there saying 'Seeking GPS Satelites (0)...' for ages.
I have also tried lots of the other suggestions in this forum but with no luck. Its almost as if there is no GPS built into this. The only things I have hope for is to hard reset the MDA or to update the ROM/Radio. Tried using the reg edit tool and adv config tool to see if any settings are causing a problem? Could it be the update to comapct farmework 3.5 or the settings for the IP phone?
Unfortunatly I have followed the instructions to hard reset the MDA but it just seems to soft reset, plus what will happen to my installation of CoPilot as it was pre-installed with the phone. I have a backup done with the Sprite Backup tool that came with the phone but will this restore programs if the device is reset?
And the ROMs are all for the HTC Diamond. Plus not too sure about invalidating my warranty with an update.
Really starting to think the GPS has just broke on me. Which is a bit odd since it hasn't been dropped or damaged etc...
Starting to get a bit frustrated as there doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer any where on the web and no supplier is getting back to me (wonder why...?)
OK...it lookslike you have a few more options now....
First thing is make a backup! Do this now and save it to Internal Storage.
A Hard reset appears to be the next option...its fiddely to organise, but it sounds like you need to get a "fresh" install. I would then only install the HTC GPS Tool and then try and find your GPS using standard setting as installed. If it cannot be found then perhaps you have an issue with the unit itself.
As for your co-pilot, surely you have the install cab or disc that came with the unit?
Right now you need to know:
i) Are just the settings screwed up, or
ii) Do I have a faulty unit.....
If it faulty you want to keep the original ROM for warranty purpose (so don't flash that........yet!)
Hold on...
GPS is always OFF until the phone comes out of 'flight mode'. You can do this by activating at least one of the following (phone, BT, Wifi).
Some applications like Igo8 are able to access the GPS whilst the phone is in flight mode.
Other apps such as TT, GPS Tuner, BeelineGPS etc need the non-flight mode.
This can be set in the Comms Manager.

Not as far I am aware. I can and have run TT6 with flight mode engaged - on a BA flight. It starts by saying flight mode engaged at the bottom left, but still finds the satelites (as long as you are next to the window).
And yes BA allow the use of GPS for flights except at take off and landing.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
But I took the plunge and dislocated my fingers to perform a hard reset. After the hard reset the phone automatically re-installed all the supplied apps (CoPilot, Google Maps etc...) and it worked fine.
Tried lots of suggestions and tools but this is the only thiong that has worked. I have read lots of conflicting posts about how the GPS can lock due to several apps attempting to use it while other say its due to the phone not having it enabled as default. And then others say it can't lock!
At the end of the day the GPS worked in the morning and then stopped in the afternoon after no fiddling with the phone. This makes me feel like it could happen again.
As I write this I have just had my first manufacturer response. Its from the makers of CoPilot. They have posted the following :
Please go to Start Menu | Settings | System / GPS
• At the bottom left hand corner of the screen please select Programs and change the GPS program port to COM 4.
• Select Hardware at the bottom left hand corner of the screen and make sure the GPS hardware port to be set to COM 3 and the Baud Rate to 4800.
• Finally at the bottom left hand corner of the screen Select Access and check if the box Manage GPS automatically is ticked.
• Also, please go into START | SETTINGS | CONNECTIONS | BEAM
Please ensure that the beam is unticked as this affects the GPS pickup.
• Also ensure that you do not have any other GPS program installed on the device as this could also affect the GPS setup in Copilot.
2. Launch CoPilot Live on your Pocket PC (Tap on ""Start --> CoPilot Live"")
a. In the ""GPS"" menu, tap ""Options"" and tap on ""Setup GPS""
b. Tap on ""Manual"" and in the ""GPS Com Port and Baud Rate"" section, select the COM port and Baud Rate as provided by your GPS manufacturer (Com 4, Baud Rate: 9600). If you do not know this information, tap the ""Automatic"", then tap ""Next"" and CoPilot Live will search all available ports for your receiver. Note: If you are using a Bluetooth GPS receiver, your Pocket PC's Bluetooth Manager must be aware of the device before CoPilot Live can detect it.
c. Tap ""OK"" at the top of the screen to close the GPS Options. Note: CoPilot will remember the GPS settings on exit, so you will only need to configure your GPS on the first use.
Would like to have tried this but I spent quite a bit of time messing with COM port setting et all... and nothing seemed to work. Ho hum.
Anyhoo, again thanks everybody from your help.
Andrew
