Too Many messaging / email "system" accounts - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi Folks,
I just came across an interesting problem with my newly imaged Kaiser. When I went to create a new e-mail account, it gave me an error saying that i already had the maximum number. When I open the messaging directory, I see that i have 5 ( yes count'm five) different system accounts.
1) why are there so many?
3) which one is the one that is actually being used?
2) how do I delete all of the extra ones?
Here are all of the accounts right now
1) SMS/MMS
2) Blackberry
3) System
4) System
5) System1
6) System2
7) System3
thanks for all the help!
thanks!

Hi,
this happens due to improper installation of the blackberry client.
best hint: make a hardreset and reinstall blackberry.

yeah, it's hard, I know. I've gone through this several times. I currently have 2 system accounts and can live with that, but the only way I found to get rid of them was by doing a hard reset....

Remove cemail.vol, which will delete all of your accounts - or see if you can remove each account manually?

deleting cemail might destroy BB functionality. afaik, one cannot remove the system account manually, but I may be wrong here...

that may still be a viable option. I may have to uninstall and re-install blackberry. But at least I won't have to do completely redo the rest of the setup.
thank you both for your suggestions!

See the DSM type number at the bottom of the account picker in the invalid system volume? take the first five or six numbers & do a registry search. Delet the parent key associated with it or, as I do it, use SK tools & delete, using the same method to search, the pimmail volume associated to it.
Easy!

Hmm,
Interesting approach, thanks! I tried searching the registery for the account name, but not the CSLID. I'll try that. The only problem, how do I know which of the 5 is being used?
With the amount of time, I've spend looking into this...i could've done a hard reset and resetup everything by now. LOL

Some hacks

Hi. I have some questions (maybe someone did it)
1.) How to put some registry settings into .cab (some desktop tool?)
2.) How to backup settings data (gprs, mms, etc) are they in registry?
3.) Anyone knows how to make my Wizard to use localized MUI files ( nls and MUI reg hack localize only Voice Dial)
4.) how to run outlook with as "new sms" - i need it for shortcut
5.) I have found screen settings with 16 bpp (default) i switched it to 32 and i'm not sure sth happend. Maybe it was a bit slower. Anyone knows does it affect to screen and what is max value (64??)?
Lost my reply thanks to ctrl+C not working for some reason. Let's try again.

You can use any CAB editor. I was recommended OCP Software's WinCE CAB Manager - it works great.

Yes. Your best bet will be to open up an existing operator settings CAB and adjust the values to what you're using, and then save the CAB again. This way you can just install that CAB anytime you need to re-set those settings. Search the forum for some example operator settings CAB files.

No idea. Although you can make a shortcut with...
32#"tmail.exe" -service "Inbox" -to ""
to create a new message, it will default to whatever is your currently active inbox. So if Hotmail was your last active inbox, you'll be composing a new Hotmail message.
32#"tmail.exe" -new
Will pop up an Account selector to let you pick where to start a new message in.
I'm sure there's an option to pick the account on the command line as well, but I haven't found it %)
You can always use VJSMS from vijay555's VJPhoneTools:
http://www.vijay555.com/index.php?Releases:VJPhoneTools
It's just a small app, and you can launch it with shortcuts as well.

Max is probably 32bpp - however, your screen is, at maximum, likely to be 18bpp. And addressing at 18bpp just makes things slow. See also:

Regarding starting new appointments etc, have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=204692#204692
basically:
Append -new to each of the PIM tasks, eg
Start the apps as such:
\windows\addrbook.exe -new
\windows\calendar.exe -new
\windows\tasks.exe -new
Click to collapse
To start a new message, there may be other ways, I'm sure there are, but you can use my VJSMS with "" on the end eg
"....\VJSMS.exe" ""
Click to collapse
V
vijay: of course me again
And yeah, like I said, you can use "tmail.exe -new" to start a new message. However, it will ask you what account you want to send from.
You can skip that bit with the earlier shortcut - but it will default to whatever your current/last active Account was.
So basically, say my current/last active Account is hotmail... then what shortcut do I need to start a new SMS (which is in the "Text Messages" Account) ?
I haven't spotted a way, tried a couple of strings - no luck. Your app would surely work, but I can't help but think there's gotta be a way to do it with just tmail.exe

GoodLink problem, anyone can help?

I have goodlink installed on my Kaiser and can't remove it since it is required by the company.
Well, the bad things are:
1. The goodlink main program "GoodApp.exe" can somehow start itself automatically. It really eat a lot of battery and can cause extra GPRS traffic.
I've remove the .lnk file from \Windows\Startup directory so that GoodApp can't start during system startup.
But, it will still run after several minutes and can't be correcly stopped.
Generally, there're two Good applications displayed in the TaskMgr: GoodApp.exe and GmdMoniterApp.exe, it's easy to kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe but when you want to kill GoodApp.exe, it will always prompt an error, though after that it seems the GoodApp.exe disappears in the TaskMgr. However it will start again after several minutes. CRAZY!
Anyone knows how to kill the GoodApp.exe so that I can run it on my will?
2. The Good software modifies the shortcut to the "Contact" menu (on the bottom-right corner of the screen). Normally when you hit the "Contact" menu it should display the contact list of your SIM card or so. But after installing Good, this menu points to the Good contact list. It's really annoying!
Where could I get the "Contact" menu back?
Thanks a lot!
I'm in the same boat, hate what Good Mail hijacks! Found a couple of ini's but since Good's support site is garbage, it didn't help much.
Have tried a whole mess of things, all to no avail....
If anyone else comes up with any suggestions, I'm all ears.
MBN
Just as a follow up, I've reflashed my phone umpteen times trying various "fixes" with no luck. Thought I'd found the registry entries (HKLM\Sofware\Microsoft\Shell\RAI) and tried tweaking those.... no help, DOH!
Tried to overwrite the various exe's with empty "fabricated" ones (renamed empty text docs and overwrote the Good mail ones), still nothing.
A couple of weeks ago I had a version of Good that at least left the contacts in my dialpad intact...latest version hijacked that one as well.
I have my IT dept contacting Good to see if they will offer any insight (not holding my breath). I fear I am left only with trying a third party PIM.... but the way things are going, Good will hijack that too!!!
If I hear or find anything, I'll update.
MBN
I have to say that GoodLink is the most dirty PDA software I've ever seen.
It uses a lot of dirty method to protect it from being disabled.
There are 3 main programs related with the protection(I can't remembet all the names):
1. GmdLockApp.exe: to protect your cellphone with a password. it will force you to set a password and you'll have to input the password every time the phone come back from standby mode (or so...).
2. GmdProtector.exe: to protect GoodLink components. With this program running, you'll never get a chance to modify any configuration of GoodLink (such as renaming a GoodLink program, or change a Reg key of it...).
3. GmdLaunchGuard.exe: this is the most dirty program, it hijacks almost all other application's shortcuts. Try to search "GmdLaunchGuard" in the Reg table you will find there's many results indicating the original windows configuration was changed by it.
For problem 1 & 2, I got a workaround so that you can at least modify some Reg key to do furthur test and can kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe & GoodApp.exe at last:
Steps:
1. Use GoodLink backup tool to backup it on to the storge card;
2. On the root of storage card there's a directory "GoodLink Backup", enter that dir and just delete the GmdLockApp.exe;
3. Also in that dir, rename the GmdProtector.exe to GmdProtectorBak.exe or something like that;
4. Soft reset you cellphone (by pressing both function keys then press reset) to let it return to the original state;
5. After restart, in the storage card root dir, there's a Restore GoodLink short cut, excute it will restore GoodLink to the memory;
6. Enter Windows\Startup dir, delete the short cut which points to GoodLink;
After above steps at least GoodLink will not start immediately after system startup, but it can start at anytime (I'm not sure).
However you can kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe and GoodApp.exe in the TaskMgr. You'd better stop GPRS before you kill GoodApp.exe, or it will prompt you an error.
For problem 3 (actually it relates with displaying the contacts), I still didn't find a good way to resolve it (simply rename the GmdLaunchGuard.exe will not work, and perhaps will make you can't load any program).
However you can see your SIM card contact by pressing "Send" key, it will bring out the contact list though it's very inconvenient and lossing some functionality such as smart searching...
You can rename the GoodApp.exe so it will never be started.
I could probably live with the constant presence of Good, I just hate that it hijacked my contacts....
It links contacts to only one of our company's address books, and it happens to be the employee addy book.... doesn't exactly help me much.
Oh, and have I mentioned that it's pushing Lotus Notes...another favorite of mine!
Resurrecting an old thread here... I hate how Good hijacks the Calendar and Contacts softkeys and I want to work on that issue again. Has anyone made progress with that?
As far as the GPRS activity and battery life, if you launch GoodMail and then goto the options menu you can set it to "Work Offline" which prevents it from auto-checking for new mail. You can then go to that same options menu whenever you want and select "Send/Receive" to manually pull your mail.

What are these programs doing in startup?

I noticed in all Diamond ROMs there are a few programs which are always loaded at startup, but I doubt if that's necessary.
I mean these:
1. BioTouch.exe. Needed with the Cube but nowadays useless? When I kill this program nothing's wrong (I believe).
2. Opera9.exe and OperaPreL.exe. Why are they loaded? When I want to start Opera I simply hit the Opera link.
3. Sddaemon.exe. This program did something with the sd-card I believe. But we don't have an SD-card anymore.
4. SAPSettings.exe. For other devices to connect/use my Diamond or so? I don't need it...
5. Some other: MediaHubMini.exe, APLauncher.
Anyone can explain why they're there and know how we can get rid of it?
For some programs (BoiTouch.exe and SAPSettings.exe) I use a dummy file of 0 Kb and copy these to my \windows. So these programs don't start.
I just want a clean memory without any unnecessary ****.
EDIT: Seems the BoiTouch.exe is needed to scroll left/right in sms, internet.

at least at this one i can answer. it was discussed in an another post (don't remember witch). after somebody has the guts to test it by stopping it the conclusion was that once stopped you are not going to be able to switch between yr e-mails with the horizontal swipe.

yes you're right, I just read it. Will edit first post.
They are my questions either!

Please keep testing! I killed all these processes once and nothing happend. I guess till we find out the exac explanations it is good idea about dummy files - I will do it.
Any other experience? Please post it!
And how do you stop them? Are they in the Startup folder? Don't have the phone on me (duh) but I don't remember them being there...

Yes, I have exactly the same entries as well as "Wktask" (I know what this is) and "Services" ...
If I can move the the 3 you mention above, it would be great But I don't want to blow apart my device ("Services" looks serious and "poutlook" looks like mail related which I rely on!)

I guess I should leave it alone.
I don;t do anything with the speeddial, so I'd like to know how to get rid of it

I think sddaemon has nothing to do with speeddial, it is needed for "Voice Dial or Voice Command". So you can safely delete it if you don't use voice command.

How to select multiple contacts?

I am trying to copy my contacts (or at least some of them) to my car phonebook through bluetooth but I am not able to do that because I did not find a way to select multiple contacts in Diamond. Is there a way to do that?
Start>Contacts>Menu>Select Contacts>Several/All
All or whichever contacts will or can be seleted
When they are all selected as you want
Menu> Send Contact> Beam
It will then open a Blue tooth Screen and will search for your Bluetooth Phone system when found click on it and away you go.....
On my Blue & me it did all this automatically for me.

I could not find that option in the menu of the contacts of my Diamond. There are alot of options but no (several/all) option. I can copy or delete one by one. Are you using Diamond too?
Same here i can't find the option "Select Contact" in my phone, i too find this as a problem..
guys, make sure you read my articles, I've also answered this q in one of my articles...
see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...deleting PIM (calendar - contact - task) data : both PI and AF (see Chapter 2) support mass selection. That is, third-party software only.
Must be a Rom thing can't remember me having it when I had original ROM have upgraded last week to new ROM from Vodafone might be that.....

Outlook stores email body in memory

Hi,
Although I properly configured Outlook to store the email attachments on the internal memory card, the email body themselves are stored in main memory (\Windows\Messaging), eating up tons of this precious resource.
Does anybody know what registry key I have to change for correct this?
Max
Known issue, according to Microsoft
Follow this thread on MSDN:
http://blogs.msdn.com/outlook_mobile/archive/2006/09/26/772244.aspx
Solution: add a Regkey
In \HLKM\System\Inbox\Setting, add the String value PropertyPath, in which you can enter any location you want email bodies to be stored. Don't forget to delete or move the bodies from their old location and reboot the device to activate these new settings.
Worked perfect for me.

I choose "immediately" in Outlook Email->Storage for deleted mails in the Diamond because all mails are still stored in the hosting PC. I still see two leftover emails in Windows/Messaging, but their size is 0 bites.

AHA! Awesome, thanks for the advice. So now I know how to GET to the above location, but I don't know how to "In \HLKM\System\Inbox\Setting, add the String value PropertyPath, in which you can enter any location you want email bodies to be stored. Don't forget to delete or move the bodies from their old location and reboot the device to activate these new settings."
How do I add a string value? I can't find anything in the registry that allows me to add anything. I'm such a noob, sorry if these are obvious questions to you!
