Outlook stores email body in memory - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
Although I properly configured Outlook to store the email attachments on the internal memory card, the email body themselves are stored in main memory (\Windows\Messaging), eating up tons of this precious resource.
Does anybody know what registry key I have to change for correct this?

Known issue, according to Microsoft

Solution: add a Regkey
In \HLKM\System\Inbox\Setting, add the String value PropertyPath, in which you can enter any location you want email bodies to be stored. Don't forget to delete or move the bodies from their old location and reboot the device to activate these new settings.
Worked perfect for me.

Newbie here. Can you tell me exactly where to find HLKM? I went into my Registry Editor and found HKLM but not HLKM. Thanks!

It is HKLM only, and not HLKM.
So what you found was correct.

I choose "immediately" in Outlook Email->Storage for deleted mails in the Diamond because all mails are still stored in the hosting PC. I still see two leftover emails in Windows/Messaging, but their size is 0 bites.

AHA! Awesome, thanks for the advice. So now I know how to GET to the above location, but I don't know how to "In \HLKM\System\Inbox\Setting, add the String value PropertyPath, in which you can enter any location you want email bodies to be stored. Don't forget to delete or move the bodies from their old location and reboot the device to activate these new settings."
How do I add a string value? I can't find anything in the registry that allows me to add anything. I'm such a noob, sorry if these are obvious questions to you!

Some hacks

Hi. I have some questions (maybe someone did it)
1.) How to put some registry settings into .cab (some desktop tool?)
2.) How to backup settings data (gprs, mms, etc) are they in registry?
3.) Anyone knows how to make my Wizard to use localized MUI files ( nls and MUI reg hack localize only Voice Dial)
4.) how to run outlook with as "new sms" - i need it for shortcut
5.) I have found screen settings with 16 bpp (default) i switched it to 32 and i'm not sure sth happend. Maybe it was a bit slower. Anyone knows does it affect to screen and what is max value (64??)?
Lost my reply thanks to ctrl+C not working for some reason. Let's try again.

You can use any CAB editor. I was recommended OCP Software's WinCE CAB Manager - it works great.

Yes. Your best bet will be to open up an existing operator settings CAB and adjust the values to what you're using, and then save the CAB again. This way you can just install that CAB anytime you need to re-set those settings. Search the forum for some example operator settings CAB files.

No idea. Although you can make a shortcut with...
32#"tmail.exe" -service "Inbox" -to ""
to create a new message, it will default to whatever is your currently active inbox. So if Hotmail was your last active inbox, you'll be composing a new Hotmail message.
32#"tmail.exe" -new
Will pop up an Account selector to let you pick where to start a new message in.
I'm sure there's an option to pick the account on the command line as well, but I haven't found it %)
You can always use VJSMS from vijay555's VJPhoneTools:
http://www.vijay555.com/index.php?Releases:VJPhoneTools
It's just a small app, and you can launch it with shortcuts as well.

Max is probably 32bpp - however, your screen is, at maximum, likely to be 18bpp. And addressing at 18bpp just makes things slow. See also:

'fraid I have nothing on point #3
ZeBoxx, you again?!
Regarding starting new appointments etc, have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=204692#204692
basically:
Append -new to each of the PIM tasks, eg
Start the apps as such:
\windows\addrbook.exe -new
\windows\calendar.exe -new
\windows\tasks.exe -new
Click to collapse
To start a new message, there may be other ways, I'm sure there are, but you can use my VJSMS with "" on the end eg
"....\VJSMS.exe" ""
Click to collapse
V
vijay: of course me again
And yeah, like I said, you can use "tmail.exe -new" to start a new message. However, it will ask you what account you want to send from.
You can skip that bit with the earlier shortcut - but it will default to whatever your current/last active Account was.
So basically, say my current/last active Account is hotmail... then what shortcut do I need to start a new SMS (which is in the "Text Messages" Account) ?
I haven't spotted a way, tried a couple of strings - no luck. Your app would surely work, but I can't help but think there's gotta be a way to do it with just tmail.exe

How do I find HKEY folder in Cingular 8125?

Please read this fot basic understanding: http://www.winguides.com/article.php?id=1&page=2&guide=registry
But how do I find it on the phone? or could I configure my 8125 through my pc's HKey?
Open Total Commander,
Make sure that the address is at "\"
Tap on "\\"
Then tap on "Registry"
There you go.
No Offense But dont touch what you dont know
If you dont know what HKEY means, or where its located, or how to access it and what to do with it you really really shouldnt mess with it. All it takes is one minor screw up, mistyped character, to turn you $300 - $600 into a paper weight. I would make sure you know absolutley sure what your doing before you mess with it. Not being mean, but trying to help you save your phone and some potential money. Im pretty sure it would void your warranty.....
I 2nd that Messing with Registry is always risky. That being said I use Resco Explorer and the Registry can be seen and edited via the Registry Editor Shortcut or inside Resco Explorer itself. I'd say do a backup 1st before hacking away... worst case is you do a hard reset if you really mess up IMO. Goodluck
Okey... I have a problem too...
I was able to find a registry folder. However there is no HKEY directory... All I got are: HKCR, HKCU, and HKLM...
How can I find HKEY?
fair enough.
HK stands for HKEY_
LM stands for LOCAL_MACHINE
CU stands for CURRENT_USER
Acronyms.

This is the answer I was looking for.
Thanks a million
Cheers.
I'm new to this also, and although I "shouldn't go messing with the registry," if I don't I won't learn.
I got both Total Commander & PHMregEdit the other day. I was able to navigate to and change the values in the registry to increase the cache size & use the 4-way d-button in Internet Explorer. They were pretty easy because all you had to do was change a value.
However, I would like to enable the Cap-Lock & Symbol-Lock indicator as described in the FAQ & on HoFo. I can get to the Control Panel & then to the keyboard directory, but I'm not sure how to Create a Registry or Create an Entry. Do I click on the "+Add Value+" at the bottom of the directory, the type "EnableIndicator" in the prompt that says "new value #1"? I tried clicking File-New Directory, and it made a folder, but I deleted that because I didn't think that was right.
Any help will be appreciated, I don't know anybody to learn this stuff from or anyplace other than here to learn it. Thanks.

Too Many messaging / email "system" accounts

Hi Folks,
I just came across an interesting problem with my newly imaged Kaiser. When I went to create a new e-mail account, it gave me an error saying that i already had the maximum number. When I open the messaging directory, I see that i have 5 ( yes count'm five) different system accounts.
1) why are there so many?
3) which one is the one that is actually being used?
2) how do I delete all of the extra ones?
Here are all of the accounts right now
1) SMS/MMS
2) Blackberry
3) System
4) System
5) System1
6) System2
7) System3
thanks for all the help!
thanks!

yeah, it's hard, I know. I've gone through this several times. I currently have 2 system accounts and can live with that, but the only way I found to get rid of them was by doing a hard reset....
Remove cemail.vol, which will delete all of your accounts - or see if you can remove each account manually?

deleting cemail might destroy BB functionality. afaik, one cannot remove the system account manually, but I may be wrong here...
that may still be a viable option. I may have to uninstall and re-install blackberry. But at least I won't have to do completely redo the rest of the setup.
thank you both for your suggestions!
See the DSM type number at the bottom of the account picker in the invalid system volume? take the first five or six numbers & do a registry search. Delet the parent key associated with it or, as I do it, use SK tools & delete, using the same method to search, the pimmail volume associated to it.
Easy!

Hmm,
Interesting approach, thanks! I tried searching the registery for the account name, but not the CSLID. I'll try that. The only problem, how do I know which of the 5 is being used?
With the amount of time, I've spend looking into this...i could've done a hard reset and resetup everything by now. LOL

Turning off keyboard auto pop-up?

Is there a way to turn off auto keyboard in the registry??
As in, if you click on a field the keyboard does not automatically show?
You'd have to click on the keyboard icon to show.
I find it a bit annoying especially when using MSN Messenger and it keeps popping up and down when changing from contact list to convo.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip>:
Create or change DWORD TurnOffAutoDeploy from 0 to 1
Or download & install this cab:
http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/1836803/SIPUpDisable.cab
OR how about this
Use the Gsensor to activate the SIP?
IT would be great to just tilt the diamond forward and have the keyboard pop up then tilt forward past 90 degrees to hide it again
I will post this in the Gsen thread, maybe the dev's can work something out.
Jules
sounds great

You should use a propper registry editor. Resco Registry Editor, PHM or the one in the Task Manager 3.1.
Good luck.
anybody try setting this inside hklm\software\windows\messenger live\ or something like that? still pops up in ms.n messenger and this setting is cooked into the rom i am using.
I can't say good enough things about XDA Developers for archiving these threads. This registry hack worked perfectly on my Imagio. So many answers to questions for specific models just keep working on new models and new versions of Windows Mobile/Phone.
And thanks to Kortez for the original reply!

Youtube cache to storage card???

I normally don't need much direct help when it comes to figuring out stuff on my tilt phone but I can't seem to get this one!
I have the youtubeQVGA_working cab running on my phone, works perfectly yadda yadda, no problems there. But it eats up major memory on my device because the cache is located in the "/Windows" directory! I tried to go into the registry to find out how to switch it to a folder on my storage card but no luck, so in fear of screwing something up, I decided to ask around.
Anybody been able to figure this out, I'm sure it's not very difficult, but I'm probably just missing something. Can somebody point me in the right direction??
Well...
After a few more days of searching and messing around with the registry I still can't figure out how to switch the "/Windows/YouTube" cache folder to a "Storage Card/YouTube" folder where I can store my Favorites, History, Channels, and Search folders.
I realize I haven't been able to find the answer but I thought this was a fairly easy fix. Actually I assumed someone already did it, but like I said I haven't found it yet. Maybe I'm using the wrong wording in google.....
If it's any help I found a string in HKLM/Software/HTC/YouTube called TempFileLocation with a value of 1...
Help PLZ!!!
I am also very interested in knowing how to change the cache location of HTC YouTube too. I called HTC and complained because the cache on mine can get so high that the device runs low on memory, which then results in loss of ability to recieve SMS and emails. The HTC call center accepted the problem, but Sprint email rep and HTC email reps did not want to take responsibility. In fact, HTC email rep said the program does not belong to them. What a bunch of liers.
Why don't you idiots at HTC fix your software and stop lying. Why didn't you put more device memory on TP2s? Memory was cheap when TP2 was being designed so why didn't you put more memory for the device and change the location of caching to storage card for all your programs!!!! I am very angry at HTC because my SMS stopped working and I got in a lot of trouble. People did not believe me, and it is HTC's fault.
Someone please help correct HTC programmers stupid mistakes!
I have searched everywhere but can't find the answer. I'm sure that there is some genious out there who could help us out? How do we change the location of the YouTube cache?

Well, then you just use SmartTweaker.2008.v2.0 ..
you can see the reference and also download it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664195
Looked in the specifications but can't see that it has this option?

In order to cache more free and don't interfere with main memory, just move it to the memory card. Here's how:
1. Install Resco Registry Editor
2. Click Start> Resco Registry and come to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software>> Microsoft> Windows> CurrentVersion> Explorer> Shell Folders.
3. Knock cache, change the value data from> Windows guest> Profiles>> Cache to be> Storage Card> Cache and press done.
4. Knock cookie, change the value data from> Windows guest> Profiles>> Cookies> Storage Card> Cookies and then press done.
5. Knock history, change the value data from the> guest> Windows Profile>> History to be> Storage Card> History and press done.
6. Close the Registry editor.
