Youtube cache to storage card??? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I normally don't need much direct help when it comes to figuring out stuff on my tilt phone but I can't seem to get this one!
I have the youtubeQVGA_working cab running on my phone, works perfectly yadda yadda, no problems there. But it eats up major memory on my device because the cache is located in the "/Windows" directory! I tried to go into the registry to find out how to switch it to a folder on my storage card but no luck, so in fear of screwing something up, I decided to ask around.
Anybody been able to figure this out, I'm sure it's not very difficult, but I'm probably just missing something. Can somebody point me in the right direction??

Well...
After a few more days of searching and messing around with the registry I still can't figure out how to switch the "/Windows/YouTube" cache folder to a "Storage Card/YouTube" folder where I can store my Favorites, History, Channels, and Search folders.
I realize I haven't been able to find the answer but I thought this was a fairly easy fix. Actually I assumed someone already did it, but like I said I haven't found it yet. Maybe I'm using the wrong wording in google.....
If it's any help I found a string in HKLM/Software/HTC/YouTube called TempFileLocation with a value of 1...
Help PLZ!!!

I am also very interested in knowing how to change the cache location of HTC YouTube too. I called HTC and complained because the cache on mine can get so high that the device runs low on memory, which then results in loss of ability to recieve SMS and emails. The HTC call center accepted the problem, but Sprint email rep and HTC email reps did not want to take responsibility. In fact, HTC email rep said the program does not belong to them. What a bunch of liers.
Why don't you idiots at HTC fix your software and stop lying. Why didn't you put more device memory on TP2s? Memory was cheap when TP2 was being designed so why didn't you put more memory for the device and change the location of caching to storage card for all your programs!!!! I am very angry at HTC because my SMS stopped working and I got in a lot of trouble. People did not believe me, and it is HTC's fault.
Someone please help correct HTC programmers stupid mistakes!

I have searched everywhere but can't find the answer. I'm sure that there is some genious out there who could help us out? How do we change the location of the YouTube cache?

Thanks for answer, but I want to change the location of cache to storage card because when looking at long youtube films, the cache fills up and fone gives error messages.

Well, then you just use SmartTweaker.2008.v2.0 ..
you can see the reference and also download it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664195

Looked in the specifications but can't see that it has this option?

I join the question, how to move the cache to the memory card because it takes a lot of main memory.

In order to cache more free and don't interfere with main memory, just move it to the memory card. Here's how:
1. Install Resco Registry Editor
2. Click Start> Resco Registry and come to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software>> Microsoft> Windows> CurrentVersion> Explorer> Shell Folders.
3. Knock cache, change the value data from> Windows guest> Profiles>> Cache to be> Storage Card> Cache and press done.
4. Knock cookie, change the value data from> Windows guest> Profiles>> Cookies> Storage Card> Cookies and then press done.
5. Knock history, change the value data from the> guest> Windows Profile>> History to be> Storage Card> History and press done.
6. Close the Registry editor.

Storage memory

Hey everyone I am just looking for a solution on how to clear up some storage memory on my att tilt. It has a full stock shipped rom installed. I don't have too many aftermarket programs installed either and if anything I have most programs installed on my 4gb Card. I keep getting the low storage memory message on my phone and I can't even send new mms messages or read new ones. Out of the alloted 125 mb free storage ram I am running less then 1mb free memory. Program memory however is fine.
Do you guys have any solutions to clearing up some storage memory other then removing the Att bloatware. What is the primary cause of low storage memory? Right now I have about 2+gb's on my storage card and I would like to use that to save my files if that is an option.
Please advise.
Thanks
try clearing your internet explorer cache. This is done by opening IE, and go to Menu > Tools > options and pick the memory tab. tap the Delete Files button, and see what that does for you.
I did that and it cleared up over 40MB of memory. I use Opera exclusively now just because of that. I wish someone would fix the issue of not being able to redirect IE's cache to the SD card.

Damn that was a great fix man. I just cleared out 60mb's of storage. Thats crazy. Any other pointers?
Internet cache path can be changed using schap's advanced configuration tools, stickied in the 'development and hacking' in the general section.
Y'all should read posts in general too, since there is alot of information that is not Kaiser specific...
Hope this helps.
Look at this recent thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349683

I am aware of that program, but it is a known issue with the Kaiser that PIE will hang if the temp files are redirected to your storage card.
....unless it's been fixed and I missed it.

Nope, I haven't heard about a fix either, although I haven't encountered it personally with my TomTom maps on my storage card. I never thought about this before, but perhaps me having a class 6 helps? dunno.

Temporary Internet Files on Storage Card

I just got a Tilt and am running Alex's stripped ROM. I'm used to storing the Temporary Internet Files, History, and Cookies on the Storage Card with my Hermes.
I've Google Searched this and cannot find it.
I've tried to make the registry changes as follows:
HLCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders
Cache = \Storage Card\Temporary Internet Files
Cookies = \Storage Card\Cookies
History = \Storage Card\History
When I do this and reset the device, PIE won't work. It starts to down load files then just starts.
How are you Kaiser Aces doing this.
Thanks in advance.
I haven't tried this myself but I know KaiserTweak has options to change where your files are stored. Give that a whirl.
Unless you want a dead slow internet experience, don't do it. the only reliable place to move the cache to on these devices is a ram disc. But that's a bit of a waste on your ram & not needed. As long as you clean up your temp. iternet files occasionaly you'll be fine in device memory. As far as I know though, there is no reliable way to relocate the cache to SD at this time.
GS Leon 3
Thanks man. I do it on my BA and Hermes with no problem. I'll follow your advice.
Yeah, I n BA also. This is a different beast though.
No storage card for IE files..... SSLLLLLOOOOWWWW and/or DIE. Unfortunately, it is no good.
I've set IE cache to storage card and must confirm that IE becomes very slow and hangs so now and then.

sorry for the thread revival, but by "cleaning out" temp files, do you mean just deleting everything under:
\Windows\profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\*
?
I've got 37.9 MB in mine.
simplified. using your browser, go in to settings and delete cookies, cache and temp. internet files.
or you can use the cleartemp program and do it that way.

I did that (cleared cookies/cache/temp files in browser), it didn't remove any of the files in that directory.
so...
- did a soft reset
- renamed my \Content.IE5\ folder to \Content.IE5.OLD\
- did another soft reset
- opened PIE and browsed
- checked that a new \Content.IE5\ folder had been created
- deleted the \Content.IE5.OLD\ one
38MB recovered.
Just deleted 2 Posts as they were adding no value unless we are in a kindergarten.
Thanks for the thread, I just recovered 64mb

Onenote Mobile - where do the notes live?

I just flashed my Kaiser to Dutty and as a result it's wiped my Onenote Mobile notes (no great surprise there).
Before I flashed, I took a Sprite Backup. Does anyone know where the actual "notes" live? Is in a directory or registry entry somewhere? I'd like to restore them if possible. I have searched XDA Devs, but there's nothing I can see explaining this.
Thanks in advance...
\Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile.
I've been looking for a way to move them to another folder but I cannot find it.
Ta,
Dave
Thank You!
Thanks very much for this solution. I copied from the backup and I can see all my notes again.
You just saved me a lot of frustration
I love this forum. Every time I have some obscure question, someone has already asked it and, usually, someone else has answered it perfectly!
Thank you!
amazing
Amazing, I was asking myself this same question this afternoon on the way to school. You guys are amazing!
Thank you! Been flashing new ROMs and needed to back up my notes... this forum rocks!
one note 2010
dear all
one notes stores in local device memory instead of storage card. any solution to store the one notes 2010 files in storage cards. Please help me
just navigate to \Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile... highlight the "OneNote Mobile" folder, select menu edit, copy...then navigate to your storage card...place it anywhere you want it by hitting menu, edit, paste. Now they will be on your storage card for future retrival

But how to make OneNote store to SD?
Haven't figured that out yet either...still working
I think it's Pocket Mechanic that has the option to move applications to run from storage card...I've successfully moved most everything I've tried with it. Has anyone tried 'moving' folder to storage card with this app? I'm not sure how it works...if it leaves a shortcut behind pointing to new location on card maybe? I use OneNote for work, and can't afford to screw it up and have down time trying to fix, so wondering if anyone has tried that route yet?
UPDATE: Tried above method, and it did not work. Has anyone else found a feasible way to do this yet? With it storing audio recordings in .wav format, it's basically not usable without being able to store to storage card. I run out of memory in less than one minute.
The frustration continues
Hi everybody,
I have been grappling with this damned issue with OneNote 2007 on my HD2 forever. It’d be nice if some of the top dogs here at the XDA took a minute or two out of their busy schedules to fix us up with a way to force OneNote to SD card. I mean come on people, don’t you leave us at the mercy of windows unpredictable array of hangs, crashes and total system annihilations, give us a way out.
I have personally wormed around the registry and found a way for that whole attachment thing JVolger. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>OneNote Mobile>12.0.
Once there edit the attachments String value with your favorite registry editor and change the string entry with the address of the folder where you like one note to save your attachments.
Now if someone could figure out a way to force one note to save to the SD entirely, I would be one happy man!!

Anyone knows how to change Notes SAVE PATH ??

Hi,
I already did my research on this topic using the search function provided.
However, I can't get anyone giving the correct solution.
So,
Did anyone here knows how to change Notes SAVE PATH ??
I tried to change the registry in :
(HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Notes) from \Internal Storage into \Internal Storage\Notes
HOWEVER,
everytime I saved the new registry, and DO a soft reset, it always revert back to the original condition, and sometimes, the registry value is "\Internal Storage\Notes" BUT when I save new notes, it was saved in the root of internal storage (as usual).
Please help me to find solution for this one
Thanks so much guys...

omg....please accept my sincere appologies for my ignorance and for my feeble attempt to help in resolving such an important issue.
i solemnly promise to never, never jump and try to help without:
- reading the question (you so gracefully reedited after my answer) at least 5 times.
- searching the forum for similar problems.
- researching and learning all the wm manuals.
sarcasm aside, did you tried "my method"?
please note (pun intended) that even if i did not "get" yr question (but i did!), i certainly didn't deserve the slap. usually here we answer with a "thank you but this was not what i meant". try this next time...
and for the record, i do have all my notes in internal storage\notes as i said and with the simple method i described. no registry editing needed.
i also checked the registry and it is still showing "internal storage" and not "internal storage\notes". the path is not reflected in the registry and i do not have an explanation for this...
and here is the proof that i did understand yr question and that my simple, no registry editing, "just use the program settings" method works. look at the path and at first note....
sir... I'm sorry beforehand if I sound rude to you... and if it did, please know that I never meant to
Ok, back to the topic, I did actually tried your simple method, by going to 'Notes', and Options, Save to: 'Internal Storage'... but this eventually gets the 'Notes' to save its new files at the root directory of 'Internal Storage'.
How could you get that kind of setting to save your notes at 'Internal Storage\Notes' instead ?
Could you direct me and give me a guidance on how to direct newly saved notes files to 'Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes' ?
Once again, I would like to say thank you for your willingness to try solve this matter with me
When you're in notes theres a folder drop down list on the top left, you can add a notes folder there and it will put it in Internal Storage, I got mine in Internal Storage\Notes as well but can't get it working trying Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes

glad i am not the only one....that's the way to do it, nothing to add.
maybe is not recognizing more than 2 levels..."Internal Storage\My Documents\Notes" is a 3 levels path.
to the OP: glad to help when i can!
FOR KIEN & KUKURIKU :
Thanks so much for the kind explanation you guys have given.
Eventhough I can't save notes in 3 level path, but at least Im happy enough to save in internal storage\notes.
Thank you guys

Lost everything on SD Card

Sooooo I foolishly formatted my SD card from FAT16 to FAT32 without transferring any of my files over to my desktop, therefore, everything has been erased...the cabs I dont really care about as I can just add them again, however the pictures are a devastating loss, there were many pictures on that card which I loved and would like to see again. I am aware that there is a tool somewhere out in googland (and hopefully xdaland) that allows me to bring back image files. If anyone knows the name or location of this tool it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

I've used data recovery programs before but can't remember the name of which one i prefer. I'd recommend just doing a google search for either "data recovery software" or "picture recovery". There are many free ones out there so i wouldn't suggest buying one unless your too lazy to read up on which ones best.
If i remember the name of which app i've used before i'll post back,
Good Luck!
Solution is here

Try this
http://www.ufsexplorer.mobi/
if you format it i dont think you can recover it. formating wipes it clean. deleting simply deletes the address to where your data is located. recovery programs works by being able to relocate the data without the address.
@ denniegst: Somehow I don't think that formatting destroys data irrevocably. Otherwise utilities like Acronis Disk Director would be at least partly useless. And there would be no need whatsoever for things like DBAN, Eraser, Drive Cleanser... you name them.
@ OP: Provided you never saved anything on your newly-formatted SD card, there should be a very good chance of recovering your data.
At the time of typing this, I have a SanDisk-labelled RescuePRO mini-CD sitting on my desk. I got it with a memory card some time ago, never installed it, but it's supposed to save your bacon in situations such as these. Doubtless there are many others.
Ok, thanks for the posts guys, I believe I recovered the pictures. I used the RDMobile, thanks for the link!
slight problem, I ran the recovery, found the files, but when try to open it a pop up comes up saying;
There is no application associated with "Deleted SD Files"(what i called the backup) Run the application first, then open this file from within the application.
A bit confused on how to open the file to view my recovered files. any pointers
( I apologize for being a pest ;] )
...After looking through the settings, I thnk the problem might be where it asks me to define the file i saved...I am not quite sure what to define the file as?
sorry for the delay
I have not check these posts in a while sorry, the program you need is EZRecovery Pro, it will restore just about anything, deleted, formatted, raw etc.. do a Google/torrent search, by far the best and easiest recovery program I have found. And don't worry if you have written file to your card over the past few weeks, you would be surprised at how much data can be recovered even after a long period of write and rewrites. As always, if you like it, buy it.
try badcopy its good for memo cards and usb devices
