Turn The Backlight On When Unlocking - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi guys,
Sorry if this has been posted already but I can't seem to find it through search.
Is there a tweak where the backlight can come on when your trying to unlock the phone, it's a tad dark and if the light is bad it's impossible.
Cheers
Mark

Look at Diamond tweaks or config programs, from memory one of them allows you to set the backlight to full on when unlocking

had the same problem. the solution is simple
uncheck at backlight settings: dim the backlight if the device is locked
the backight will come on on lowlevel when you activatethe phone. you know you have to press the unlock in leftbottom corner. when pressed the light comes on full to press the second unlock in the middleof the screen.
regards W

I think they are referring to password locked. The screen starts dim and stays that way till unlocked. In bright sunlight you cannot see the numbers to enter the unlock code to unlock the device

I've found the Backlight Lockout setting in one of the config tools, it works perfectly until I soft reset. Any ideas how to get it to stay put?

In registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight
DimBKLinUnlockScreen set to 0
Or use the cab i created.

THANK YOU!!! Adding this value to reg was exactly what the Dr ordered!! Much much appreciated Surf!

Unlocking Screen with dim display

I have tried searching for the answer to this so please do not ridicule me if i missed it!
Is there a way of stopping the screen from being so dim when i press the power button to wake up device if it is locked.
I always lock the device when i am not using it and will quite often press the power button quickly to turn off the display. When i come to use the phone etc i press the power button to get the screen back then press unlock at the bottom of the screen then the unlock half way up the screen, phone unlocked. BUT when the power button is pressed to turn the screen on and the phone is still locked the screen is so dim i cannot see it in bright daylight. Is there a way of making the screen brighter so i can unlock it?
David
simple answer YES!
The registry key here controls the backlight lock level:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
There REG_DWORD Key called LockLevel can be set between 0-10 (0=0%, 10=100% locklevel backlight brightness)
The system defaults this setting to 0, hence the dim lock display.
I have found however that the value does not stick after a soft reset/reboot, and goes back to default, so i have set a startup .lnk file that runs a reg script to set this value silently on boot for me.... you can do this yourself using the latest taskmanager 2.9 from here: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm (/silent command line parameter was only added in v2.9 so i can run a reg script without the prompts!)
I like to have a bright pin/unlock screen as i like to use the screen as a torch/light by just pressing the power button!!
Enjoy.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the answer to that. I too have been having the same problem, and it has bugged the hell out of me, especially on those bright summer days .
Thanks heaps for that!!!
Sorry for the delay, but many thanks for the answer! Damned annoying that was.
Regards
David
How do i make this .lnk file? What should it say? Where do i put it? etc etc. Sorry for the question but not done any of this before. The reg edit was easy enough but now i am lost.
Cheers

I also would like to do this, but havent figured out how to create a command line with TaskMgr that will execute at startup - would you share how it is done?
Also, when I set locklevel to any number other than 1, no dimming occurs when I lock my Tilt. I experimented because I thought I'd like a little dimming but not as much as the default - but it seems like it's all or nothing.
I hate the way the Kaiser and/or WM6 insists on spoonfeeding some settings to us, no matter how much we would like to permanently alter them!

BUMP - Anyone know how and what to do to make this .lnk file and then how to use it?
David
strange thing. When I adjust this value it messes with my backlight timeout. I normally have this set to 30secs, i.e. the screen goes dimmer after 30 secs. When I adjust the lockout value as described it goes dim after 5-10 seconds. am I doing this right? I wasn't sure if I had adjusted the value correctly.

I have searched all over can someone tell me how to get the \silent to work I have taskmanager v2.9 spent the last 2 hours trying to get this to work please give a bother some help
I think the answer is here...well, not an answer but at least an app that claims to do what you're looking for.
This answer may be too basic, but have you tried changing the registry edit and then NOT doing a soft reset, but instead doing a full power off/on? Some registry entries WON'T stick with a soft-reset, but will with a power cycle. The power cycle gives the OS a heads up that it's being turned off and writes things more permanently...

I always power cycle after a reg change (It forces a registry write and a SR doesn't) but it doesn't matter...this reg change doesn't stick after a power cycle for some reason.
EDIT:
BTW, I loaded BrightLock and it works perfectly.
Excellent seems to do what i needed!!! Cheers

I am experiencing a similar issue. My normal backlight on battery power is set to 1 minute, but after installing brightlock, it keeps changing to 10 seconds. I really like what brightlock does for me, but not at the cost of dimming the screen when I am trying to read something. Is there a configuration I am missing?
I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
See my next post.

I think I got rid of this annoying “dim” problem without .lnk file and scripting.
What I did is the following:
1. Downloaded and installed Taskmanager 2.9 from: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
2. Opened Taskmanager and went to Regedit
3. Deleted LockLevel folder from HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
4. Saved
5. Rebooted the phone.
After rebooting, system recreates LockLevel folder, however, “dim” problem is gone.
Unit still dims the screen, but pressing any key triggers the bright display.
Suggestion: Export registry and backup your device before playing with Regedit.
can some one please re-post brightlock? mediafire link seems to be done and this is doing me nutter

2 New Utils.. (BrightLock and TouchControl)

Hey guys, I thought I'd share with you all 2 new toys for our Kaisers/Tilts.
BrightLock is a small utility that gets installed in to your startup folder. It will stop the Tilt/Kaiser from dimming the display every time it is locked. It replaces the needed for a script to hack the registry each time.
Touch Control gives you an easy way to tweak your touch screen sensitivity without having to dig through other tweak tools.
Both are available on my RapidShare folder:
http://rapidshare.com/users/C7VW57
I'll put them up as packages for Chefs when I get a chance.
isnt the touch control already there when you have touch flo or if you have any kind of cube installed already...?
I don't know, I don't install either with my roms.
Thank you for both of those, I don't use the cube either. These will help man.
I don't use touch but BrightLock fixes the last (non-driver or lack of driver ) issue I have with the Tilt.
Thanks
TouchControl isn't related to the HTC Touch or cube. It's just for adjusting the sensitivity on the actual touchscreen. Same as recalibrating only you look at it as a slider.
brightview seems utility..touchcontrol seems bloatware
brightview seems utility..touchcontrol seems bloatware
thanks tho for the apps
BrightLock is a great idea, BUT it changes the backlight setting to 10 seconds on my TyTN II, an unacceptably short amount of time. Maybe there's a simple fix for this issue??
-Bob-
doesn't kaisertweak already give that change for touch sensitivity?
Can anyone give me the registry entry to try the backlight fix, since the BrightLock app won't work for me. I'm wondering if a manual edit causes the backlight setting to change to 10 seconds too.
EDIT: Found it!
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
There REG_DWORD Key called LockLevel can be set between 0-10 (0=0%, 10=100% locklevel backlight brightness)
EDIT 2: It looks like editing the LockLevel has the same result as BrightLock, the backlight turns off after 10 seconds. I'm way too dimwitted to be able to function with only 10 seconds of backlight, so I guess there's really no fix for me.
Thanks.

TouchControl Requirements
I installed TouchControl on my Tilt and it is requesting a newer version of .NET. What version does this program require?
I am using the latest official ROM version from HTC.

They are compiled against .NET 3.5
Rebecker, that's really odd. All I'm doing is forcing LockLevel to 10 at boot then dumping from memory. It's a quick fix to save the user from having to setup scripting/etc.
LockLevel should ONLY affect the brightness when locked.
I tried "Bright Lock" and it changes the locklevel key to 10 (full brightness) at power On, but has the side effect of changing the key "Battery Timeout" to 7 (seconds) which dims the display in 7 seconds when the phone is unlocked as well as locked.
Haven't found a way to get a bright screen at power-up to see the screen to unlock it (with a short timer like 7 seconds), then revert to the backlight timer setting (like 30 seconds or more) once unlocked!
There is another thread dealing with short backlight issues and it seems that LockLevel and BatteryTimeout are linked somehow???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351709
What do you think the BatteryTimeoutTemp key does?
EDIT
In any case, if you REMOVE Bright Lock, then re-name the DeviceLock key like the referenced thread describes and soft reset, BINGO, the Backlight comes on bright for about 7 seconds when locked AND it stays On for the duration of the settings>backlight timer when un-locked!

Couple of (I Hope) Easy Tilt Questions

I had an 8125 and now I have a tilt. In making the switch I have run into a few anooying problems that I am sure someone already solved? I have looked all over the forums so if these are answered, could you please point me in the right direction?
1) The ever popular PTT issue. Took me a while but I got it going. It was interesting that there was an incompatibility between the fix and BatteryStatus. Not sure what THAT was about? But it is working now.
Soooo...How do I get button FIVE to appear on my button maps? Neither the stock button feature in the settings nor AEButton Plus shows button 5, the camera button. It would also be kewl to map the OK button on the side, but I am guessing that is too much to ask? *Blink*
2) I have set the brightness at about the medium level (that was a disappointment because I was able to set it to the lowest on the 8125) but somehow the backlight keeps going dim after a time. I have looked all over the parameters to configure this but I can't find it? How do I keep the display from going dim on me? I have the tilt set to sleep at 1 minute and I do not have the backlight going dim at all, so I don't know what else to do?
3) Now that PTT button is mapped, I did what all of you did, I set it to Voice Command. But of course the push and hold I want the convenience of RECORD like I had on the 8125. I have tried all of the shortcuts and such I could find on this site and everyone of them put the voice recorder on my screen but did NOT initiate the record feature. Is there no way to do this on the tilt? I think I remember something about a parameter? /b or something like that? I tried to find it again but I was unable to.
Thanks for your help, guys...

Hi Welcome
Not sure bout your other two questions, but the backlight is easy
Look in Start/Settings/System/ Backlight
You want the second tab, which is for Battery Power.
There you can set the timeout for it.
PS: If you have already tried this, then sorry for pointing it out, but sometimes the obvious solution is hard to find
AEButton Plus
I am able to remap both the OK button on the side and the Camera button with AEButton PLus.
I do have a slight problem that I am looking for a solution and hope someone knows the answer. When I remapped the OK button on the side, the first press still gives me the start menu no matter what I have it set for. The second press does the function I have programmed for double press. But is there anyway to not have it give me the start menu on the first press? I have it as none in the standard WM6 buttons panel. And I have it as lock phone on AEButtonPlus for both the first press and double press. But it always requires double press to make it happen. Any ideas?

Keyboard backlight - can it be turned off?

In the dark, the Xperia keyboard looks awesome. But in the light, the keys are hard to see. I have to tilt the device at different angles to read the keycaps. The keys are silver and the backlight makes them disappear in ambient light. Anyone have a hint, like shutting off key backlight when the light sensor registers light? Would be a great idea if they could do it - we only need the backlight for the keyboard when it's nearly dark.
Just go to settings, system, power, backlight and tick auto adjust. This is what i use anyway and it means that the keyboard hardly ever lights up in the day but looks great at night.
Thanks, this makes the keyboard better.
But the screen is now a bit less ambient than I prefer.
Is there no way of killing of that backlight permanently?
Me too...
I´m very interested in a solution too because I´m having the same experiences ! (silverkeys / when lit up hard to see)
I'd like to turn off the backlight of cursor keys. I mean completely. Now they light up if I click the cursor key. Any idea ?
Almost a year passed with no solution!!!
Xda developers come on!!
This works for me
The app ToggleAuto is the best solution I´ve found. It simply turns autobacklight on and of. works for me.
Put a shortcut on your todayscreen for easy access.

a user "why?" from 4pda.ru gave such advice:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SonyEricsson\Illumination]
"QWERTYBRIGHTNESS"="50" . I have not finded this key and havn't ideas how it can be created. If your attempt will be successfull -- pls, post here. P.S. It must to make keyboard backlight adequate, it will not turn off backlight.

[Q] Disable capacitive button backlights

Any way to do this?
You could probably do this by editing your build.prop file, but make a backup first!
what edit in the build prop would work?
I can't say for sure, but if you feel like reading all of the lines, you probably could.
bump
I would like to see an answer, as well. I don't want to waste battery on illuminating these soft keys. Hopefully someone can figure out what file has the option to disable the lights
Do you have the Root Tools app? I think you can change it in there. I personally like my keyboard and buttons always on because the flickering makes my CDO go crazy and I'd rather always have a backlight when my screen is on than never have it.

I tried root tools and wasn't able to turn the lights off. I have a privacy screen protector, so when the lights are off, the button area looks completely black, flowing well with the screen. I like the look because it makes the screen look bigger
Anyone have any other solutions, preferably a solution where I can go through root explorer and edit some file?

Well, I sat down and read through build.prop line by line and don't think it's in there now. There's a free app in the market place that MAY work. It did for my keyboard backlight. Search something along the lines of "backlight switch", it has a green logo. I'll edit with its exact name when I get my Nand backup done with.

After testing a couple of applications, I found AdjBrightness successful in turning off the lights. The lights stay off, even when the application is killed in task manager so no wasted ram to ensure the lights stay off
In the options menu, simply check off 'Lock off button light"

This was the ultimate solution I wanted, as well. The same developer has an app called SensorsInfo, which tells all the output values of all the sensors (e.g. accelerometer, proximity sensors, and most importantly, light sensor). Maybe someone can find out how to alter the light sensor's function. Just a thought.
(I wish I could figure out myself, but the D3 is my first android phone, and before that, I had a windows mobile 6 phone. Hoping to learn more and more about Android as time goes on )
After a few days, I realized when restarting the phone, the lights turn back on. They turn back off when the program is opened again. This is a pain, so I hope someone can get a better solution
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness turns it off. But when the screen turns off it reverts the value back to 255 or 0, depending on the sensor. The value can't be changed if AdjBrightness' options are set, but it is not a service. No clue how it does it.
