Does anyone know, if I buy the Diamond with an international HTC warranty, and then I replace the ROM with one of the ROMs in this forum, does this immediately revoke the HTC warranty ?
I know that I can later revert back to the original ROM, but someone told me once that when you revert back, HTC can still know that you changed the ROM. So will I still have warranty ?
Anyone has experience with this issue ?
Thanks!
as has been discussed here thousands of times before, YES. Upgrading with a ROM that was not released by HTC for your particular device will immediately invalidate the warranty.
And yes, HTC can tell if you've changed the ROM in the past cos you have to update the SPL as well, which unless OliNex have updated to allow putting the original SPL back on, then you're warranty is out the window.
You want a warranty, don't update with anything other than what you get from the HTC E-club.
You want to update with ROMs from here, you take your chances and hope that HTC don't notice, but your device better be totally dead when you send it back, or they can see that you updated.
Unless you send it to t-mobile of course, they've replaced three of mine cos their repair centre (SBE, SME or something like that) just replace most phones without checking the ROM.

So, once OliNex allow us to put back the original SPL back on, I can update to any ROM I wish, without any fear with voiding the warranty ? (assuming I go back to original SPL and ROM before sending it back).
Thats assuming your phone is in a state that will allow a reflash...
cheers

This is a dumb question I am sure...
I am getting a new phone from Cingular warranty since the touch screen stopped working on my current one. I am guessing I will get a new phone and swap in my SIM card. I am guessing they will send me a unit with 2.25 loaded on it.
I have been running summiters ROM (2.3) and really like it but I have a few questions...
1. Do I need to CID unlock the new phone or is this controlled by the SIM card? If I do, from what I have caught up with on the boards, I can no longer use Lokiwiz , so what do I do? I found a post from Faria http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
that talks about downgrading, unlocking and then upgrading again but it seems to have mixed results.
2. Assuming that I solve #1 are there any challengers to Summitters 2.3 with CF2 + multiinstaller for folks on Cingular? I don't see any up.
3. Possible most important... Do I need to reflash my old phone to what it was shipped with or the official 2.25 so I don't have problems with the return. I am doing this all via mail so I wouldn't think they would check, but figured someone here had done this before.
As far as number one is concerned, you do have to CID unlock your new phone. The CID information is on the phone not the SIM card. Also, I didn't have any trouble downgrading from 2.25 in order to follow the directions in the post that you linked there. I had to do it when I had my phone's mainboard replaced.
For question number two, summiters AKU 2.3 ROM still seems to be the latest ROM out there for us Cingular folks.
Lastly, for number three, it couldn't hurt to flash back to an official ROM. I didn't have any problems when I had a summiter ROM on my phone when I sent it in for service (the USB port was broken so I couldn't reflash), however it's better to be safe than sorry ^_^

Thanks for the reply... should get it tomorrow and hopefully all will go well.
seems like everything has been answered, but i do want to add to question #3... I would flash back to an official rom, techinically according to the warranty process any rom that is not an official rom does void the warranty. So i would flash it back to an original rom before sending back. Im not saying they check, but i would hate to send back my phone with an un-official rom and get stuck with a $400 bill for a phone thats not in my possesion anymore...
Yesterday I updated my Tilt with the Official HTC ROM but didn't like it much. I put back on 6.0. I had to install HardSPL to get 6.1 on. Is there any way to go back to the original SPL? Well the real question is, if I have to send it into AT&T, would they notice that I put HardSPL on?

yes they will. You need to first revert back to original spl and rom before u can send this back to att
Ok guys... at the risk of sounding like a noob, I'm seeking some clarification on the Greenscreen issue in relation to my experience this morning...
New Oz Telstra Touch HD (SPL 1.15) received last night... downloaded latest EnergyROM this morning and used latest USPL (2.5) to flash ROM (via Windows Seven x64 with reverted drivers).
I wasn't expecting to see the greenscreen issue but alas it booted with ugly g/screen... I just turned off the screen and did a little research, got confused, turned screen back on and all was good (colour had returned to normal).
It appears that the colour is only screwed up during the boot cycle... once finished everything returns to normal.
So, what I'm asking is can someone advise me what I've done wrong and how I rectify the g/screen... I don't wish to use HSPL and I'd prefer to keep the original SPL if possible.
I couldn't find what ROM version the EnergyRom is - maybe that's where I've come unstuck??
Your help is always appreciated,
Cheers...
Well I gave up on using USPL and flashed the latest HSPL and all appears ok at this stage (at least no further g/screen).
Hope this helps another Telstra HD user...
I think it was because you went straight from 1.15 to a 1.54+ ROM, and because you used USPL it didn't update your SPL.
By using HSPL the SPL was obviously updated to a newer version, if you want to use USPL I advise updating to an official 1.54+ ROM and then flash to a custom ROM.
I'd say you're right... I wanted to use USPL primarily for warranty purposes but I'm not sure what the implications are for flashing a later official SPL with the Telstra THD anyway so I figured I'd just bite the bullet and use HSPL (and hope that if I need warranty I can still access the bootloader to revert to stock!!)
Any Oz Telstra users out there who know if using a stock SPL other than Telstra can void warranty?

ive got a telstra HD, u cannot use the original SPL on new roms whether they are wm6.1 or wm6.5. this will give you the green screen issue and no reception (ie your radio is disabled)
flashing a newer SPL will void your warranty as there isnt one available from telstra. flashing HSPL will also void it. double edged sword really.
Crackwhores guide to flashing 1.56+ roms is a sticky at the top of this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
Any different SPL or ROM will be used as an excuse to void your warranty. If there was an issue I'm sure you could fight it in a court, but at the end of the day it would be many times cheaper to pay for repairs or get a new phone if they wouldn't fix it under warranty.

Bugger... but you're 100% certain on this?
I gotta return my touch hd for repair (Wifi and camera are not working). I do not want any surprises when it comes to the warranty, so could someone please tell me what spl should be on my device if I have flashed the latest official rom from HTC. I currently have 1.54 that I manually added when I flashed the 1.56+ roms from this site. Can HTC tell that I manually put it on my touch hd versus their software flashing utility? Thanks

As long as you have official HTC rom on device (no matter when released) and don't have HSPL or cooked rom, you are fine to return device and not void warranty
I am facing the same problem also, the thing is after the spl, for some rom the start up screen will looked lees color, or funny.
I there any way to revert to the original spl?
yes sounds like you need to revert to stock spl 1.14.0000

At the bottom of the thread is a section on how to revert to stock SPL.
The SN of my device is HT99RKD00766, I want to flash it back with the ORIGINAL ROM so I can send it in for warranty, (no network problem).
I have tried to go on the HTC Support site to see if there was an "upgrade" for this particular SN but it shows not available, is there any way or sites to see which original rom this phone came with ?
Thanks !!!

I don't know of any. You can see some of the official roms here.
Depending on your country and the language you can theoretically choose one from the list and then match an appropriate spl to it. The feeling is that as long as you have an official HTC rom and spl you should be fine for warranty purposes.

As state by ClydeB1 here, as long as you have official rom & SPL on your device, you are fine for warranty purposes. It does not need to be the orginal rom which was on your device when you purchased it. Use link provided by ClydeB1 and flash offical rom on your device.
