Hi,
I am trying to find a good facebook application for my new Diamond. On my Trinity I used the FrindsMobilzer application, but I cannot get that one to start at my Diamond (might be because it only works on english wm). I also tried snap2face, but the fonts and buttons are made to be small on a qvga and hence very very small on the diamond screen.
Any recommendations for facebook apps?
not sure of a vga app out there as of yet - i just browse on m.facebook.com or iphone.facebook.com i prefer the iphone one but no facility to poke on it

Exactly and FriendsMobilizer only works on WWE devices (it uses hardcoded path to program files folder).

And FriendMobilizer is just a web browser component in an application, useless if you ask me.

Snap2Face is coming a long way. I have been exchanging emails with the developer offering suggestions
snap2face is working fine on my ignito
what about Fring.com?
I have used Snap2Face and Friendmobilizer and they both have their merits.
Freindmobilzer, in my opinion, has a nicer interface and displays changes to friends accounts in a better way (I think just by using the news feed which you normally get when you log into Facebook) but Snap2Face has better features i.e. being able to write on a friends wall when responding to a post on your wall, and being able to upload photos.
I would love to see some sort of hybrid version of the two. Maybe with Friendmobilizers look (I think it is just a browser view but might be able to be replicated in a programme) and Snap2Faces functionality.
One problem I have now found though with Snap2Face is that if you have your Diamond plugged into your computer either to charge, like I normally do when at work, or any other reason which means the internal storage is not visable to the device Snap2Face sets up its own file called 'Internal Storage' to save its cache too. When you then disconnect the diamond the internal storage then comes back as 'Internal Storage2' which means any programmes i.e. camara and music player can't find anything they are linked two. I think this is only a problem though if you have installed Snap2face to the internal memory.
Just so you're aware the developers of Snap2Face recommend not using IE to access facebook with their program installed as it causes Snap2Face some issues. Mobilizer uses IE and I've found mixing the two renders the messaging part of Snap useless and it refuses to synch upwards any messages I send - it says they have gone but they haven't and at the facebook end they don't appear. It's a known issue apparently.

As most of you are aware i am assembling a rom with a help of few others that will include some of the most frequently used FREEWARE apps that will allow people to choose what they want to be installed, this way they are readily available...
Now i know what i like and what some others like.. but dont know what everyone likes... So here is your chance to list what FREEWARE apps you cant live without and when i feel this thread has generated enough ideas i will take them and post a poll to have people vote on them, then take the most popular ones and incorporate them into the extended rom.. in the end my final version will be for most providers, not just one!!

Well then. . . how about sneaking in pocket mech. lol Just kiddin'. Although, I would like to see a rom with all my paid for progs incorporated into it. I just can't figure the stupid thing out. What we need is a rom with loading screen on windows that lets us check and uncheck which software we want installed or not. But everything actually built into the rom. Now that'd be awesome.

I had trouble findin' TCPMP, as it seems like the main site's down. Luckily, I had it on disk. ;-) Enjoy.
My favorites freely available are
TodayAgenda
BatteryStatus
WM5NewMenu (this displaced PHM_Traylaunch for me)
Total Commander
Smartskey
Omapclock
QMail
Most of these are under development and change frequently, which makes placing them on the ROM problematic.
I now its a payable product but I find Phonealarm very usefull.
I am using TCPMP 0.81 beta, posting folder from my sd, just make a shortcut

Gs finder and alarmclock from here http://page.freett.com/todamitsu/index_english.htm
Omap overclock Plus continuous overclocking. I use it and it rocks!!
Utilities from pdamobiz rom

10) task manager
all these will take less than 500 kb
How about the photo contacts today plug-in from the treo w700

Is IE unusable on the kaiser with the bug i hear about? I usually use the joypad for scrolling down, is it still the same?
Compared to the Hermes, how fast is the Kaiser at building pages up? On any big pages (eg. ebay) the Hermes really grinds to a snails pace and even when you think it's finished if you scroll down it's still (slowly) inserting images. Sometimes it can take nearly 60secs to finish showing an eBay page.
cheers, John
Which bug?
I use PIE with PIEPlus 2.2 and it works fine.
It is slow though, compared to my old Magician WM2003SE But thats obvious (WM2003SE is not flash based OS, no persistent-memory, thats why faster).
I am waiting Opera Mobile 9, which I am not sure will ever be released!
Duke Nukem Forever
I don't notice any difference with the Hermes. What bug are you talking about exactly?
By the by: opera mini beta 4 runs great on the Kaiser.

Yes it works, but the scrolling gets laggy once you have scrolled down a bit. The page download times are probably on a par with the TyTn. The Touchflo finger scrolling works better (once you get the hang of it).
Opera Mini works faster and scrolls OK.
Mike
Im not having any issues with PIE in general and I'm already getting used to the scroll feature. In fact I picked up my Trinity today and found it annoying when I had to use those fiddly scroll bars.
I wonder how it compares to the experience on the new iPod Touch?
I heard from a friend that the browsing experience on that was very intuitive - but then he is an apple nerd!
My bigger issue with the Tytn II is still the radio used. I am having real problems with the gprs/3G switch and both phone and internet connection have major problems coping when I am in 1 or 2 bars of 3G.
And I am still rarely getting a full 3G signal which was not the probelm with the later radios I have on my Tytn and Trinity.
I will try my Vodafone SIM tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

this is the bug i was talking/hearing about.
With the extra power and extra chips I was hoping the page building issue would have truly gone, it's my biggest gripe with my Hermes. My other gripe was the poor video playback on my Hermes (which has improved thanks to many WM6 roms), I hear this hasn't improved much either. I think I'll wait until a new ROM or a new device...
Touchflo doesnt work with my installation of Opera Mobile (8.60). Would have thought there would be 20 million threads on it by now so am thinking its just me with the issue.
Is touchflo something that has to be written into third party software of should it would with anything?
Opera Mini is the Java version correct?
New ROM will not fix that because it will be still the same IE.
IE is just slow, that's all.
Try Opera Mini and enjoy the super fast browsing experience.
You will never look back to IE, trust me.

Yes, Opera Mini is a Java application.
But it is running fine and superb.
Here what I got it installed in my device:
1. Install JBED-JAVA_MIDLET_MANAGER.2007.08.02.2.1
Get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49222&d=1188897204
2. Use IE and browse to mini.opera.com/beta
And follow the instruction to install it.
Note: Choose "High memory" version.
You are done.
Now, read this article below :
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
You will be able to:
1. Make a shortcut to the "Programs" folder
Then using the "Settings->Button" you can change the IE softkey to execute this shortcut.
2. Get rid of the network security warning.
That's it

All thats left is for it to be set as the default browser and take links from emails.

The shortcut part just doesn't work for me. I use Esmertec and my shortcut based on what I see in the appsdb folder is
#30"\windows\jeodek.exe" -run s3_
Whatever I do it gives me the message - Could not find MIDlet suite s3_
The file in appsdb is s3_suite.jar. Even still, I tried from number s0_ to s3_ to no avail.
Hope somebody can help.

Also the change in the selector file has my OperaMini still asking for permission. Any suggestions????

i could only get it to work witn Cloudyfa's JBed, not with the default JMM.
I finally got it to work with Cloudyfa's JBed. For some reason, JBed wasn't installed properly. It wasn't showing up and Remove Programs. I reinstalled it, reinstalled Opera, applied the shortcut/network warning fix, and all is working perfectly.
For other people having this problem, make sure JBed is showing up in the Programs list and in Remove Programs before you install Opera. Seemed to do the trick.
I will be doing all of this tonight, Thanks for the tips.
Same here, I too get the error message could not find suite s0_. The number is correct, but i noticed i dont have any .jar files in the appdb folder... Any ideas?
I also didn't have any .jar files in my appdb folder. I did see some files with s2_ extensions (eg. s2_.jah and _s2.obj) so I changed my suite link to s2_ and it worked. Once I got the link to work, I then copied the selector.utf file from appdb to my PC and ran the Fix.exe editor on it and copied it back to the Kaiser. Works perfectly with no more permission dialog, thanks so much for sharing!
My squence;
1-Install Jbed
2-Install Opera Mini and test to verify it works.
3-Create link in programs folder and test
4-Copy off selector.utf and "fix", copy back and it should all be good, with no more permissions required.
5-Map the program link to a hard key.
6-Crack a cold beverage of choice, life is good

Hmm.. no downloader for Tilt or any HTC models... maybe we'll have to try a different Windows Mobile phone? I will try 8525

They don't have the kaiser listed yet but the one we want is the "advanced version", which is the one that all the other WM devices use. You don't want the "basic" one. It still prompts you for the stupid "trusted application" every time, I'll just have to hack the reg once again.
The best part: It displays the FULL web page in the browse. Not some hacked up, trimmed down page, but the full page. You then click on the area of the page you want to browse and it zooms in. You can then scroll around using your fingers (think touchFlo) or hit the magnifying glass to zoom out. Yes, it is kinda like the iphone, but it does work very nice.

This is my very first time using opera mini, and I must say I like it. Its working really well so far. One handed browsing is simple. Web pages look alot better, and work out better. was that in the terms and conditions? if so its just a warning that data charges can occur while using it if your network applies charges for data. if your on a data plan then dont worry it wont cost anything extra.
It's a java app, so, it won't be avail as a cab file. Opera Mobile is, Opera Mini is not. This is Opera Mini (which I love).
And if yes, will it include WM 6.1?
Let's speculate a bit
I speculate, yes, an update will come... and I speculate it will include the video driver.
And tomorrow will be Christmas, and it will snow. Happy New Year!
and they will enable GPS just to please us
And they will give us more RAM. Oh, what good portion of laughing… ha, ha.
Maybe somebody heard about it from tech support or sth? Im SO looking forward to it!
forget it guys... here is an answer I got from HTC on my question about the missing update page on the website. (404 page not found)
HTC is aware about the issue we had on our website. However HTC does not have any update for the S730 for the moment but only for the S710.
As soon we have an update for the S730 it will be shown on the HTC website.

It's already clear that there is no update at the moment. The question is WHEN, if at all, the update will be available.
Because it is obvious that the update is needed for those ram issues resulting in unexpected application kills.
Moreover, HTC S730 is a quite recent model so upgrading to WM 6.1 would be a benefit not only to current owners, but to HTC themselves too.
So i'm curious whether my speculations are reasonable and maybe somebody actually knows something.
just emailed them, again.........
The best place to check is probably on http://www.htcclassaction.org/.
From what I understand, HTC are getting pressured into releasing an update/fix, though what this will include is not confirmed. Current estimates are late March for release.
Obvious updates:
Some way to close aplications.
A quicker web browser.
A clipboard to copy and paste text and numbers.

Absolutely! Obviously Microsoft can't control what third party vendors do in the way of providing software options but I was shocked that MS still haven't included a standard "Exit" option on their default applications. Did no one think that having to reopen Task Manager (sapping even more of the precious little spare memory) to close an application was bad usability?

Yep. IE still seems as sluggish as on my old SPV500, and that phone is about 4 years old now. Some vendors do Windows Mobile-based versions of their browsers, though. Apparently Opera Mobile is very good (http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/) but Firefox Mobile won't be around until later this year at the earliest (http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/10/firefox-coming-to-your-phone/).

Another obvious one I can't believe they haven't implemented. All we need are simple "select (on/off toggle)", "copy" and "paste" global options for all text input features. Ornetta's Notepad Mobile implemented this feature well (I'd highly recommend Notepad Mobile for text-editing, by the way - it's a lot nicer than saving millions of draft SMS messages to hold your thoughts: http://www.orneta.com/products/notepad/).

Agreed. It's crazy that you can cycle through types of messaging (Email, SMS etc) but there's no easy way to move between SMS subfolders (sent, inbox etc).
Off-topic, I'd really recommend trying SmartExplorer to replace the dreadful Windows Explorer. It's got some nice auto folder size calculations/displays, and allows you to "send via" (IR, Bluetooth, etc) which is a lot easier than trying to use the built-in Bluetooth connection managers/explorers.
Smart Explorer: http://www.binarys.com/SmartExplorer_en.asp
-Copy and Paste is definitely part of WM 6.1 for smartphone. However, Copy and Paste is available for free from Vito and has been for over a year now. Do a search for it, its a very handy app.
-HTC includes a way to close apps in WM6 professional. I'm suprised they didn't do so for WM6 smartphone. Eitherway, what I used to do when I had my HTC Tornado was program a long press of the Home Button to Taskmanager. That way I could easily multitask and close programs.
-Opera Mobile is just about nothing compared to Opera Mini. Seriously...get the free Opera Mini. It's the best browser available.

Opera mini is awesome, I will only love they could only make it work better in landscape mode (with the keyb out) it just stays in the same width and the lower part is missing.
I find eNatives SmartToolkit very useful as a replacement for the start button and a quick way to list/close running programs.
(Make sure you use RC08D though, not the latest version - this is buggy on smartphones)
The phone can change to landscape mode in browser and photo viewer when i rotate it. But i don't know how to change it in other application, any ideas??

According to the guy at coolsmartphone, it only works in the photo and web browser apps.
He clearly said he can change it in browser and photos. His accelerometer is fine. What he wants to know is how to manually rotate the screen in apps that don't support the accelerometer.

And as i pointed out above, it doesnt work unless your in the photo browser or web browser applications.
Im pretty sure given time, just like the Nokia N95 8gb which has a built in accelerometer, someone will program an app that woudl allow you to rotate the screen no matter what application or program you are running. At the moment on my N95 8GB phone, i have a neat little program called rotateme that does that function.

He clearly said he can change it in browser and photos. His accelerometer is fine. What he wants to know is how to manually rotate the screen in apps that don't support the accelerometer.

The word manual is crucial here. Windows Mobile devices can have the screen rotated manually, in the settings. The accelerometer has nothing to do with that.
Wow what a mess...
Spawn12: My comment was directed at 'walshieau', not you. He suggested his accelerometer was broken.
Dark Fire: Yeah that option isn't there on the diamond. The guy one coolsmartphone tried to look for it in one of the videos. 'ngod' also can't see it. Thats why i said you'd need some third party hack/program to do it.

Wow...That's quite rare. I wonder if the relevant registry entries are still there, and working. If they are, that's good. If they aren't that's really random.

Just a guess, but maybe it freaked out their accelerometer/flor3d stuff so they just removed it. I'm sure the registry entries and API are still there to do it tho.

Off Topic, but if you update to the latest N95 firmware it's officially built in now...

Yep your right, i updated mine a week ago and it does come with the rotate function built in...took them long enough to enable it lol.
ok an update, it ONLY works while you have opera browser open, and there is NO WAY to change it at the moment without an application doing it...

Yeah, I've been wondering for a while about what would happen in Opera and whatever else is affected by the accelerometer, if you had the Touch Diamond in landscape mode. Would everything rotate such that it would never be the right way up for you to read it?

yes it does, when closing Opera it reverts back...
AE Button Plus
AE button plus can do it when not in touchflo 3D . tested.
you can assign a hard button to rotate the screen.
ok i cant believe no one knows this but htc have disabled the screen rotation. has nothing to do with the g sensor. its disabled bc touchflo3d has been developed only for portrait and not landscape. other apps like the youtube app have also been designed for that. the manilla keyboard on the diamond has also been designed pretty much only for portrait. it just has a landscape qwerty layout.
its ment to be like the iphone where its portrait most of time. if you can overwrite the files within the windows folder im pretty sure u can bring it back. might be some registry too.
