Is your Diamond getting Hot? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

is anybody else noticing their diamond gets very hot below the battery? doesnt seem right....
if im using the phone or talking for more than 10mins i find my phone is gettgn really hot. just wondering if i got a faulty phone or there is a fix for this?

yeah, happens to me too
it's when it's under heavy load like movies/talking/internet

apparently it has got to do with the build of the diamond...
plastic cover also plays a part.. poor heat ventilation..
on a personal note.. it does get hotter with wifi on.. other than that my diamond is pretty much "cool"

Search fellasss

ROM
It depends your ROM version. I've read somewere that pre-european ROM version cause very high Temp. If your Diamond is an Asia version, try to update it...

Kaiser is getting hot

Hi,
Sometimes my Kaiser is getting very hot on the backside of the phone. Specially when WIFI and BT is on or even more when GPS is running.
Anybody else having this problem?
mine got pretty warm while i was installing apps and charging it (PC-USB) for the first time; look on the bright side, a battery explosion or a dead Kaiser can only mean a replacement or a lawsuit.
Yes you are using lots of juice when running Wifi and other processor intence apps this is normal if it gets so hot that you can not touch it then I would be worried but until then just use it for a pocket warmer in the winter
Mine gets quite warm when it's charging in the car, but not so much that it becomes a problem. I haven't the issue with BT or GPS though.
It's just like the Honda service manager says:
"They all do that."
When I first opened all the possible connections on my 8525 (WiFi, BT, 3G and phone) it got darn hot.
I think you'll find my posting of the same question over in the Hermes section.
They all do it. No worries.
As Austinsync says, it's pretty normal. Mine is a bit variable - sometimes wifi does not heat it up much and other days it is very warm. (probably to do with how close you are to the router - if the signal is weaker it struggles and heats up more)
Mike
my hermes does the same thing. not too fun when talking on the phone and charging at the same time...
They will blow up at 115 degrees F...

Now I know how to stop those folk that just talk and talk and talk....
Tell them my phone has reached 114 degrees and is about to blow my head off.
Of course that may be an incentive for them to keep talking
Mike
Woah, I thought I was the only one with this problem and was just about to post about it.
*plans casemod for phone, with either 120mm fan or liquid cooling* hahahahaha
Now you know why the battery has a dirty great heatsink on it...

My Diamond is TOO HOT!

I mean you can fry an egg on that thing after almost 5 minutes of use. Never happened to my TyTn II.
Anyone experience this ?
It's a feature Helps to keep your hands warm.
How many degrees does it reaches?
(Try to look at this using something like BatteryStatus...)

Im still within my 15 days swap policy. I can exchange it if the device if faulty. But if his is a common problem to Diamond then I will just wait for a better ROM that might fix it.

A new feature of Diamond!
Where does it become hot (hottest)? The middle part of the back, where the battery is?
Or lower or upper part? Or the whole unit?
I am just wondering if this is a battery problem or if this is due to hot chipsets...
Either of them would not be good news... honestly
I've an idea to fix this.....
Try to use it inside the fridge.....
You can't say HTC didn't warn us thought... they said they would be launching a HOT new phone... who new they've meant it literally

Its actually the lower part of the phone just under the battery. Its very uncomfortable to hold. I just don't want this thing to explode one day.
Obviously, Im the only one who had this additional feature on his phone.

Dont feel left out I, also have that nice feature however it's not that bad. I, removed the battery cover and it's warm at the bottom while battery is rather cool.
I remmeber back in the day when I first got the Tytn II its had the same problem but after the chefs started cooking custom roms the problem went away completely to non existent. I'm assuming its a ROM issue.

Seems to be where the QualComm chip is (see attached image - snipping tool 4tw )
If the image equals the real architecture of the Touch Diamond, the main processor is the reason for that. Probably not the smartest idea to just put it right beneath the surface...
Judging upon this, the Touch Pro should actually do better (even if the chip gets so warm) because the keyboard is between the main unit and the palm of your hand.

That makes me wonder if there is some stepping problem of the CPU running on full throttle by what reasons soever... If this gets fixed this might also have a significant impact on battery life.
Can't wait for custom roms to see what this device is really capable of.

i disabled the htcflow and i watched the microprocessor's activity with the batterystatus plugin. nothing unusual. it might be that WITH htcflow the the situation changes....
Looks like touchflo puts so much stress on the processor. Although its 524,if not mistaken, it feels a lot slower than the tytn which is 400Mhz.
Disabling touchflo changes the whole situation. The device is very fast and responsive(Still Hot). But whats good it is without the touchflo!!!
same here that thing is bloody hot not to mention horrible battery life on wifi since you must use maximum power for it to work properly...
anyone got a link for battery status?
I will try to deactivate touch flo 3d and put the cube much more convenient I think, anyone tried that ?

YES . I wanted to mention also that the Wifi sensitivity is really bad you have to crank it up to the maximum to work decently. This is a radio problem and im sure by Sept. when they release the US version rumors have it that it will have an updated ROM version from HTC tackling these issues.
I still prefers a cooked ROM

My diamond is getting hot - yours too?

Hi,
I'm using the diamond for a month now, and when i'm on a call for lets say an hour or less, it becomes really hot - i feel like i ll be able to cook eggs...

then i might consider installing a new radio version..cause it gets really hot....
when i ll be able to synch my diamond =!!!
in mine diamond temperature depends of using wi-fi
if i'm using wireless lan and the "power save mode" is turned to best batterry mode there is no such a hot....but on "best performance mode" temperature of the phone is much higher...
so i think that everything depends of wi-fi

yep, mine too...
I got the diamond less than a month ago, I also felt that it gets hot, especially when you're working him hard but I upgraded the ROM a week ago, and I think that it's better now...

Yes, once you have found the right radio/rom combo, heat like that shouldn't happen in general use. Mine used to over heat with SwiftBl 7.5 ....don't remember the radio I had back then.....after the switch to 2.03 roms and for me, the use of 1.08.25.20, it has been running much cooler.
Come on it's 600 mhz there running *notso optimal* inside that tight case
Ever navigated 2 hours? Almost starts to shine then.
Chips can be around 85 degrees before malfunction, so let it be. You manage 50 degrees with diamond, that's safe but feels very, very hot.

mine gets hot when i recharge it
My phone gets hot when in use or charging.
Doesnt bother me as its a small phone and as already stated the heat is a side effect of the componets working hard!
on a sunny day ,in the car, plugged into the car charger and running tomtom gps, homescreen plus shows 53°c after 10mins.
Well I guess it may not be any danger for the device itself but I'm pretty sure it's not very good for the battery since heat can overexcite the chemicals in the battery & shorten its overall lifespan.
off: give your phone a girl to chill him up )
on: yeah mine too when i use gps, internet and charge the battery
Mine gets hot when I turn Wifi on.

Milestone heating up when using GPS-Navigation

Hi,
when im using GPS-Navigation my Milestone always becomes very hot after a while of usage.
It does not seem to be App-dependent since it became hot when using Navigon as well as when using Sygic.
Mobile data is disabled, screen at auto-brightness and CPU at 800Mhz max.
Does this occure to someone else?
Is this normal or can it brick my phone?
I dont want anything to melt inside my phone (j/k its not that hot actually..)
yup ...
i put it in front of the car vent system so ac can coll it down
but this is common, i have a friend with a htc desire that has the same problem and same solution.
Alright thank you. So im not alone..
But could it become so hot that it damages some HW-Parts?
Mine also becomes fairly hot when using GPS and data connection - even on stock rom without any overclocking - so this seems to be "hot by design"
But I guess the heat could cause a 'bubbly' keyboard to fall apart.

i think so .. that's way i use that method to cool it down.
I've used the milestone gps to log my sailing activities in the sun and ambient temperatures of +30degC. Never had any problems to say the least except for the hot rear. IMO its normal for the milestone to run a bit hot coz i've also noticed similar issues when using only wifi. So don't think there is much you can do. Just thank motorola for building a tough piece of kit.

[Q] Samsung Ativ S getting crazy hot!

Hello folks,
I find myself wondering if I've got something going on with my phone or if it is just me. I find that the device gets very hot with little usage. I find it hot by the camera/led, but it's definitely hot throughout. I know it's not easy to confirm if it is, as there are variables. But if anyone has noticed it, it would help me with my decision to return it for a new device.
Insight from other owners would be great! Thanks!
I've got the ATIV S too, mine doesn't get hot at all.
I used to have the Samsung Focus, and that one did get hot by the camera when playing games, and it would occasionally reboot if it got too hot.
I do the exact same things on my ATIV S now and it doesn't even get warm.

I can confirm that - a friend of mine bought (i intend to buy one for me in the days to come) an ATIV S, and in certain cases it really gets hot in the zone just beneath the camera/LED. I don't think it's going to be a showstopper problem, but still we could say it's rather design flaw, then a real showstopper problem. but one thing is almost 100% certain - it's not a certain unit (yours in that case) problem. I suspect the plastics is not spreading the heat well enough as it was with the aluminum Omnia 7 for an example. Still - Quallcom's processors are known for years, that are always hotter than the equivalent ARM chip. I guess it's a matter of perspective - if it's a problem for you, and you can return/replace it - do it. If it's not such big of a deal - just enjoy your new phone

Getting hot - software issue
Hey guys,
I discovered that in my ativ s, with gdr3 preview for developers that it gets crazy hot only when screen rotation is turned on.
So I turned it off and no problem now.
Please let me know if you have the same issue.
cheers
Mine gets somewhat hot when I play games, which is normal.
