cabs for WM6.0 OK for 6.1? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I've finally decided to move up to WM6.1 on my TyTN II.
My question is, would the cab files I currently have installed on my unit (with WM6.0) still work once I upgrade to 6.1?
The most important programs I want re-installed are primarily the TouchFLO upgrades (TouchFLO cube, Random Access, Task Manager etc) and the media upgrades (HTC Album and Camera; TCPMP).
Also, am I right in assuming all the standard programs that were installed in my phone when it was new (Mobile Office, WMP, Adobe Reader, etc) will also be in the 6.1 installation pack? I'll be using the WM6.1 I downloaded from the HTC e-Club site.
'appreciate inputs
TIA

Not sure, but probably most of the yes, it was the case when I did it. You would need to reinstall these cabs because programs can't be correctly restored when doing a ROM upgrade, even with programs like Sprite Backup.

Task Manager, HTC Album and Camera are included. I am not using the others. If you do a search on the forum and to be sure, you will probably find these programs updated and also in 6.1 cooked ROMs.

Yes, in some cases updated versions will be installed plus a few improvements that you can find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375979 and by searching. I didn't miss any previous WM 6.0 programs after the upgrade.
I strongly recommend a full backup before upgrading.

I hope you don't use GPS then

I don't use any of those cabs but some of them seem to have WM 6.1 compatible versions from searching here. You do realise that many people have had issues with GPS performance since upgrading to WM 6.1 from 6.0. Personally I wish I'd held off until HTC had really sorted these problems out (they still haven't) but now I've done it there's no going back (unless I want to send the phone back to HTC for them to flash it to the original configuration or risk voiding the warranty if I do it myself).

Thats where I got mine from and yes those programs are still there, as mentioned already, some are improved.
Further to the suggestion anoano made about backing up, make sure your backup software is up to date enough to be able to restore the files you need to a newer OS. Some older versions have problems with restoring to a different OS than that used to create the backup. Check the backup software makers website if in doubt.

most cabs are universal among WM5,6 and 6.1. if they weren't then the description, filename or faq would mention if it was only for a certain version of WM

Thanks guys. This forum is the best!
Flying Kiwi, you're now two for two with me I wouldn't have known about the GPS issue if not for this forum. What GPS performance issues do you mean? I don't really use the GPS, but it would be a bummer to eventually need it, and for it not to work. I mean, I did pay for the hardware right? Any signs of HTC working this out?

gps works but it can be slow at times whether starting up,talking with satellites, etc. most of the gps issues are either applications issues or the radio

The ones that are also detailed in this forum, both in this thread *Hopeless* GPS after 6.1 Update? and elsewhere. This thread covers it quite well (apart from the reference to quick GPS being the culprit even though a radio change makes a big difference).

I think the first step is to get them to even acknowledge it as an issue. Let us know what HTC say to you about it (or the carrier if it's a carrier provided device). Just mention exactly what you've told us here that you're considering using the WM 6.1 update but that you have read online about major problems with GPS performance afterwards.

good work with this post; very helpful.

What I meant was, that's my second post that you answered
I'll check out that post you mentioned and will contact HTC as well.

Why to upgrade to WM6

Hi, ALL
I have G3 T-Mobile MDA (Wizard), running Wm5 custom ROM from Xelencin and latest Radio ROM.
Also I have installed
SPB Diary, Pocket Plus, Weather, Imageer, Backup
Resco File Explorer
PhotoDialer Plug-in
WM5Storage
MemMaid
Some RSS Reader
iGuidance
MS VoiceCommand 1.5
IMPlus, Skype
Yahoo 2 Go, Google Maps, Live Search
TCPMP
etc
most of these on 2GB miniSD. Everything works. I use most of that from time to time.
I saw faria WM6 ROM. I saw MB Rom, I saw Mun's Rom. My question is - do I need to upgrade to WM6 ? Will it add something, which probably I'm missing ?
Or it is just to have latest Windows Mobile OS ?
Second big question - will my apps work with WM6 ?
Also if moderators think this question belongs to Wizard Mobile 6 forum, can you please move it

Do you need to upgrade? Probably not. I will say that most (not all) of the custom roms will give you more space and will run faster than the stock official roms.
Will add something, which you are probably missing? The quick answer is yes. You are missing the frustration that some of us go through with these . Seriously though, its hard to answer it, but for me I find the custom roms more stable than my original Cingular 2.25, faster, gives me more room on the phone itself, and just more fun to play with (but then I'm a geek).
I can't honestly say why the draw to WM6 other than the geek factor involved and the ability to show friends and coworkers that you are running WM6 (and they don't care anyone or don't even know what you are babbling on about).
I would suggest you at least give Faria's or Molksi's 2.3 and 3.3 ROMs a try even if you aren't interested in WM6. They are VERY nice and stable. But also, understand that you will have to fiddle and tweak with your phone for a day or two to get it back to where you want it.

I've used Spb Backup, Resco Explorer, WM5torage, Memmaid, MS VoiceCommand 1.6 all on Faria's AKU 3.3, WM6 MBE, and Faria's WM6 "the real thing" and they all work.
I'll defer to others on the rest of your list.
I know you didn't list it but, as you are using other spb products,
spb time doesn't fully work
How did you get Yahoo go 2?

It's only available for smartphones... You don't happen to have a link/file handy? :d
Yahoo Go 2 for smartphones and pocket pc phones:
This is where I got mines from, they had it as an option when it first came out but now it is hidden and they want your phone information to send it to you.
This link will get you the cab. file and the active sync download.

To tell you the truth I dont own a Shadow I built this for a friend of mine.
He tells me everything works with no problems.
Test it let me know what you think.
myhtc I downloaded your ROM first thing this morning. I've been using it all day. I followed the directions on how to install and it worked with no problems, it can't get any simper then that. So far everything I have tried works. I noticed you have the clock on the lock screen that alot of the ROMs don't have. I like the idea you added restart to the settings. Email works good and images are sent and received same size. I am having a little problem with sending and receiving images from MMS, but I don't know if it is because my signal isn't that great and even on WIFI it seems to be having problems. But I keep losing WIFI connentions.i will test it more and get back
Thanks for the reply please do let us know if your having connection problems it does sound like it not that there is anything I can do about it but it would nice to know its not the ROM.
this rom kicks ass
Q: is this rom cid unlocked already
mms is working and the images are sent and received same size. signal isn't that great at my home its not the ROM. and the wifi i have had problimes with it on the phone since I bought a new Linksys ultra range plus router

No it’s not.
My understanding of the CID unlock is that it’s only important when flashing an Official ROM and not necessary for a cooked ROM.
Reason cooked ROMs require softspl to bypass security checks, Official ROMs from other providers can be flashed after being CID unlocked without softspl.
This is just my understanding and it could be very wrong.

@liljay: will do. Just wanted to let you know that I'm by no means an expert with this stuff The Shadow is the first one i've ever worked on. The only reason people might of thought my work was good is that because until Hikey and -MyHTC- made ROMs, mine were the only option for wm6.1.
btw, -MyHTC-, which phone's XIP partition did you port from? I did it from the Q, but didn't know if there were any other options.

Not trying to cut in on the fun (getting a new ROM) but if you don't already know.. the way ROMS go.. there isn't so much as one being better than another.. its more of a matter of a ROM made with the developers thoughts, likes, and ideas in mind.. as how he/she thinks it should be..
so to say that one is better than another comes off as a bit insulting..

I believe there is a post here on the forum I have recently read about this such thing.. we don't need to make comments about making one person better than the other or saying one person's ROM is not as good as the other.. we are all at differ stages of the learning curve..
I agree, perhaps even more a matter of user preference. Both ROMs are very well done, however I happen to like ND4SPD's developer 1.1 edition, cleansed of all the T-Mo extra's.
It's fantastic to have these options.
Thanks ND4SPD & MyHTC for all your hard work.
First of all, really nice job on the rom. It's a lot more organized than mine, for one.
I did find one bug and it confirms kron2's problem. The WiFi loses signal intermittedly. I'm pretty sure its not my router because I have successful connections with a laptop and a desktop to the network. Which WLAN files did you use? If you used the emulator ones, I think it should work. If that doesn't you need to use the Shadow's WLAN SYS files.
I think we need more people to look in to whether the wifi keeps going out because I have the same problem on the t mobile rom I just went back to so I can ship it back to t mobile

I compared all WiFi files from the Shadow WM6.0, Dopod WM6.0, Emulator WM6.1 and this ROM they are all the same.
Then I compared the drivers from the Shadow WM6.0, Dopod WM6.0 and this ROM they are all the same.
So I can assure you that any ROM built with WM6.0 or WM6.1 will be using files and drivers.
Any issues with WiFi connection must be from the manufacture and there are no updates.

I did not have a shadow or dopod c750 yet. (I use HTC S710)
I cook this rom for one of my friend who use shadow in china.
when i finished it, i upload to fs2you, then my friend download and test it.
I did it blindly, just put the original OEM and SYS from emulator together.
The OEM part come from dopod C750 WM6.0 rom.

RamROM 1.00 --> 1.22WWE + GPS (thaihugo base)

I used thaihugo ROM as base for this. Thanks to thaihugo for providing this.
I added GoogleMaps, YouTubePlay, VicSoft Clear Temp, Adobe Reader LE for Diamond. Replaced current USBTool with modaco ShiftPack.Liberate. This fixes the Registry setting needed to install cabs. The only registry setting you need to do is changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang value to your keyboard. You can find those values in plirom 2.00 thread.
I have also placed links to USBTool under Programs\Comm (thaihugo ROM has here) and also under SnapVue Settings (ShiftPack.Liberate does this). Here in SnapVue Settings you will see a link to SoftReset too. This is exactly what Shift.Liberate does currently whenever you liberate using modaco's procedure.
Memory:
Free Storage: 28.58 MB
Free Program: 21.21 MB
Here is the link to download RUU_Signed.nbh
Use CustomRUU.exe that is available in thaihugo and plirom threads.
The next upgrades to this ROM are HTC Voice Recorder, once I figure out how to enable the microphone, .NET 3.5, Screen Capture, and HTC official YouTube Player replacing YouTubePlay. I am also planing to remove original calculator with 1-Calc.
Disclaimer: This is a cooked ROM and is supported by neither Microsoft nor HTC. Neither I nor the ones from who I learned how to cook should be held responsible for any malfunctions or irreversible damage that may cause by flashing this ROM to the device. Use at your own risk. Bottom line, I take no responsibility for the damages that may happen to your device by flashing this ROM.

Hi Martiare
There are two ways
1. you could use external bluetooth receiver that your vista side could use to connect using BlueTooth or USB, easiest and fastest way of doing it.
2. If you wish to use internal GPS of Shift then, you need to install either thaihugo's ROM, pliROM or RamROM, which can be downloaded from this forum (search is your friend). Once you install them, you have multiple options, but the one I use is using Franson's GPSGate Client for Vista and WinMo. I bought this for $49 and I feel good investment. Install GPSGatePPC on WinMo side, and GPSGate on Vista side. Configure GPSGatePPC to work on ActiveSync. Configure GPSGate to receive signals from ActiveSync. And install Maps software such as AutoRoute or Micosoft Streets, Earthmate etc. on Vista side and thats all.
Thanks

First of all let me thank you and all other "cookers" for your continuous effort. I've been following the birth and the growth of quite a high number of ROM's, and I still can't understand if it's a good or a bad thing... I mean: surely everyone that flashes a newly cooked ROM acts as a beta-tester for the "chef" and for all other users that don't dare or simply can't flash a new ROM each week. Moreover each new ROM, even if adds some (in)compatibility problem, solves many others (just think about the possibility to use GPS). And this is the good part of the situation.
On the other hand I feel a bit confused. Each new ROM has many good things, but lacks in others, IMO. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but for instance I would really like that PliROM's home could be the standard for each other ROM. And that's just one of the things that I (and each one of us) could point up.
May I suggest to write down a list of the components and let a survey start? If 90 people over 100 should prefer PliROM's interface instead of original Shift one (again: it's just an example), why to continue developping ROMs with other interfaces?
I say this because I'm absolutely unable to cook anything, and I think that many of us can't.
Of course I'll go on flashing new (stable) ROMs, trying to beta-test , at least for a few weeks... than I'll have to go back to work and I wouldn't run the risk anymore to loose data or hardreset
Pure Snapvue
Hi Sai ;
Even though the user interface is really limited , i -personally- prefer using snapvue ...
So ... is there a way for you to
-either let me know how to disable the top bar with the start menu on your liberated rom
or
-cook a rom only cab-install and gps enabled , so that i can go on my own way...
My very best regards

Because I tried and feel it's user friendly and the key buttons for both contacts and programscan be address. Also, I found it stable too.

I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. After having read the other threads I appreciate you have to stand in the middle of a field for i to pick up the satellites. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still isnt picking them up. Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

Hi
Sure I will use pliROM as base for the new version, or may be I will have an option that would install HTC Home like pliROM does or SnapVue like thaihugo does. I think I would go with this optional one.
Thanks

Honestly I don't know if they might have removed it. But to be sure, look if you have any data comming in. Do you have any sattelites inview when using HTC GPS util? Look at the sattelite tab.

in HCTC GPS Tool (Settings tab) press Open Button, in the lower part you will see some scrolled text, when you run GPS software for the first time you have to wait for 15-30 minute to recieve the signals, then go to Satellite tab the no. of satellite used must be 3 or more to get your location, thise what I did, hope it is the correct way.

I agree with you completely. I don't think they would have removed it. It may be some issues with the position or something related to GPSGate configuration. I also come into issues where it would take good 15 to 20 minuts to lock my Shift for the first time especially with overcast skies, evenings and inside the building. I may be wrong too, HTC might have removed the GPS altogether in the newer systems, but that would be a drastic step for HTC. If they do so, I would suggest buying RAON Everun and tether it with a Kaiser or Hermes would be cheaper. You would have a GPS receiver on your WinMo, and have bluetooth, SD, Wifi handy and you could connect your Everun to that and it fits in the pocket, eventhough the screen is nearly 5" as opposed to 7". But that is cheaper alternative and runs on more manageable XP. And installing GPSGate on WinMo and XP gives me to have the GPS on bigger screen.
Thanks
Ram
Got the GPS Tool running again. It's hovering on Sat 32 and 14 with the odd scan of no. 1 on its own. Going to leave it on the windowledge overnight as the field isn't really an option!
I'm used to using a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike that takes seconds to find the sats and TomTom on my Hermes in the car and also it's own in-built Toyota Effort. None takes this long to find satellites.
But it is fun, isn't it!!!

Yep, it is kind of slow, once you get the location fixed, and it uses 2 satellites, the things move pretty fast. I have quite a good number of GPS devices, and all of them are pretty fast when compared to this.
Thanks
Ram
So the GPS Tool locked up the WinMob side , it mustn't have liked being left on all night! Pulled the battery and reset. Hey Presto the sky is full of satellites tonight and all is working fine!!!! It takes ages to take its initial reading of where everything is, has a real good think about it and then decides to work.
Now looking forward to any future incarnations.
Many thanks to all

info about x04ht (japanese softbank diamond)

it's been a couple of days since i bought this device, and i thought i should summarize some findings.
1) you cannot skip autorun process. if you soft reset during autorun, the device will start the setup process from the beginning.
2) if you turn off security in registry (HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/1001), it will refused to connect to desktop pc. you need to leave the security setting non-0, if you need to sync with your pc all the time.
3) sspl does work although it gives you a black screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621
4) softbank ap is hidden. you can make it visible, with the usual trick of ConnSBM and wifiwake.
5) internet sharing is removed out of rom as usual.
6) mms client is made by arcsoftware, and integrate to messaging. but this app doesn't seem to work without softbank certificate.
7) it seems like most of the oem apps are signed by softbank, and they don't run without the certificate.
8) good news is the japanese thumb input works without certificate so that it can be run on other wm6.1 vga machines.
This is a very important post -- thanks so much for being a Guinea Pig! I was going to get the Raphael (X05HT) when it comes out in early December, but may reconsider if it is not possible to even upgrade a rom. (the Diamond/Rapheal are very similar). However, before we come to that definite conclusion, can you describe the problem with sspl? What is the error? Are you trying to upgrade using windows xp or vista? As much information as possible would be helpful. I am sure somebody here will be able to solve this!
As far as it being locked goes, I was sort of expecting that (After the Hermes fiasco). My main irk though, is possibly not being able to upgrade even a rom....
One more thing: how is input using the keyboard? Does it do a good job?? (Especially in Japanese). That was one reason I was going to wait for the X05HT -- not to mention it having more memory to work with. Cheers!
Not 100% related, but I recommend the Emobile version of this phone. I still have a Softbank phone, which I now use exclusively with a white plan to talk to my wife, but I much prefer the Emobile packet-hodai plan to the gimped Softbank version. With my softbank phone, packet-hodai only covers sms/mms and Yahoo mobile browser, if I used the "PC site browser" I could get charged a lot more.
Anyways that thread if anyones looking for a Diamond that is easily ROM upgradeable in Japan (believe it's also coming out on DoCoMo): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440684

there is no error. sspl starts, but it does not go to the bootloader screen (the tri-color screen), but remains blank. the backlight is still on, but the screen is totally black.

you mean, software keyboard? finally, it has japanese ezinput with japanese/english dictionary so you can type both japanese and english. the difficult thing with this thumb input is switching between words and numbers. the mode changes like alphabet(english only)-number-kana-katakata. so it is a little troublesome to switch english/japanese/number... better use qwer software keyboard to type passwords or email addresses.
it is kinda slow, and seems a little unstable. need to find a way to burn my own rom...
Did you read this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440684&highlight=emobile
Emobile also carry the same phone. Especially, see post 3.
Hopefully are able to solve this and tell us how you did it. Good luck and keep us informed. I look forward to having the same problems with my new X05HT in a few weeks..... :-D
Edit: or try this to unlock it: http://www.mobilefixed.com/shop/pro...id/39?osCsid=06590ca850536441a4721bc41a6d2fd9
I read elsewhere in this forum that it works.
i should have read the threads more carefully. i could install hard spl! the black screen was ok.

So you solved it? No problems? Let us know how a new rom goes! For Japanese input go here for a one cab install of the latest IME. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2905264&postcount=1
As for your data connection installation (should give access to unlimited packet rate, too) go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441400
Do let us know how it goes with a new rom. Speed better? More stable? Amount of free memory better? etc. Cheers!

i created a test rom based on the official htc wwe rom, and successfully burnt it on my x04ht! the original x04ht rom gives you only 20+mb free ram, but this wwe rom gives you about 50mb free ram. also, touchflo responds much faster!
as for japanese input, i am thinking about copying ime+ezinput from the softbank rom which i backed up.
will report more when i am done with my own customized rom.
i could successfully rebuild x04ht rom from the dumped raw files!
summary can be found here.

Did you ever do this? If so, could you please provide a cab? I am also trying to do a similar thing for my X0ht. The IME in the new models is a lot better than the old x01ht one. There are also plently of others who would love a cab if you can do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550&page=2&highlight=x05ht
Oh, and did you ever work out the settings for Arcsoft so we can use mms? It is exactly the same for the x05ht. (I really don't want to have to use mmslite after I flash it to English).
Best!

first, i thought i would use my x04ht with a wwe rom cooked with japanese functionality and apps from x04ht. however, i have changed (or had to change) my strategy since many oem applications in x04ht including arcsoft mms are security signed and cannot be ported easily, which means they do not run on other roms without softbank certificate.
it was a little time-consuming for me to figure out how certificate works, so i figured out how to port sys & xip from newer roms to x04ht instead. my x04ht is still japanese, but os is from a newer build with softbank certificate and "full wm6.1 functions."
having said that, i think it is possible to change the language of the rom quite easily once you can dump the rom and cook it yourself. the language is simply a matter of mui files and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI]. all 409 (english) muis are available from any shipped wwe roms, anyways.
as mentioned above, i have not figured out how to port oem apps without softbank certificate yet. also, i don't have dev environment to make a cab myself.
additionally, i found out the slowness of x04ht is due to default disk cache set 0. gps takes dozens of minutes to start working, which is almost useless. i tried to use it last night, but it was searching the satelites all the time. finally, gps started working when i finally got to the place i wanted to go to. i guess i need to replace the radio rom, but i have not figured out how to make a radio rom backup yet.
also there seems to be some memory leak, but i don't know whether it is the rom or htc apps... free ram of my x04ht is currently about 10 mb after one day. this is unbelievably bad.

ATT/HTC Pure - Questions (newbie)

Hi!
I am new to this forum but not new to HTC phones.
I just got a new HTC TD2 from ATT as the ATT Pure.
Great phone! and as of this Morning the MS Application store is working great.
questions I am sure many of us will have so might need a sticky
1. Bloatware - how do you get ride all the silly ATT apps/stuff?
2. if I load a new ROM from this sight will it be equal to or better then the RTM of 6.5? basically I don't want to loose the underlying features I just want generic + Radios + store (3G/4G)
3. if I load a ROM from here can I every go back to the factory ROM?
4. How do I: App-unlock, Phone-Unlock (if any) (not SIM unlock)?
5. Donation link - were is that!?
thanks in advance!
aethicus
Search is still king around here. That being said, there are unlock tools available. Check out the ROM development thread.
So far it looks like you are stuck with bloatware unless you flash a different rom.
Good hunting.

Thanks FlyBoy,
So you have a Pure did you reload it?
Not yet, still playing with the stock rom, I've installed my favorites to add to the flavor like Youtube, Wifi sharing and a few from the new MS Marketplace.
So far I'm happy with the ROM, but knowing me, I'll probably end up flashing it tonight.

Please let me know how the flashing goes, what ROM/problems, I know several of us would love to know!
there was a person on the bloatware thread that mentioned they flashed and got more performance. I don't want to loose features like the radios, the MS Store, and Exchange integration. but what I do want is Youtube, Flash, etc. I understand it is supported. the new Opera browser is pretty good and the new IE browser is no sloutch. I don't like the Mail/SMS list, I prefer the threading features of WM 6.1

Will do.
Any ROM other than at&t is going to give you alot better performance all around. When I had my Fuze, I was using NRG's ROMs almost exclusively. Very fast and stable and he always includes all the good stuff without taking up all the memory either.

GTK! when you flashwith another ROM can you still go back to the factory ROM using a master reset? One would thing you are replacing the ROM in Flash and not the actual "ROM"
When you flash a rom you can't go back to stock unless you have the stock rom on a cd from your profider, read de faq's dude
Unless you know how to dump and recompile your stock rom you can't reflash it unless someone on here shares the pure rom which I think they have. Check out the ROM develpment section for Topaz.
I think you will flashing soon because Manila 2.5 kicks ass and the pure don't got it.

Excuse my ignorance here, but what is Manila?
Manila is Touchflo 3D. The HTC UI that sits on top of winmo
Question:
This also might sound like a stupid question, although I'm not positive...
AT&T Tilt = Kaier
AT&T Fuze = Raphael
AT&T Pure = ?????
I was going to start searching for new roms, when I ra into this little roadblock. Thanks guys!

The Pure and Diamond 2 / Topaz are the same thing. Different casing and slightly different chipset, but otherwise the same phone.
Playing With Pure
Hey again everyone,
Just got my new PURE yesterday, and went about loading up all my goodies from off my Tilt (anyone wanna buy a used Tilt???)...
One app I like using is WKTask, it allows the title bar to show mini title-bars for open apps (but I'm sure many of you already knew that )... anyway, here's a question for all those wonderful registry hackers out there who may also have just picked up a Pure/Topaz/etc. with a similar issue:::
I'm noticing that Opera 9.5 stays open in memory no matter what I do. I can use the exit menu item in the browser, I can use WKTask's Close or even Terminate, I can even use FDC Task Manager program to find Opera in the Apps list & kill it there... no matter what I do, it keeps popping back up, whether or not I have Manila running off the Today picklist.
The question here is: what is making Opera keep popping back up? Though I like the browser, I don't want it running in the background - until I want it to. Seems to me that maybe something in Manila is keeping a notification queue item rolling that opens Opera - but I've browsed through the notification queue and can't find anything that specifically mentions the browser...
This issue notwithstanding, I must say that I'm so far happy with the Pure (ex the bloatware of course). I've never been daring enough to flash non-stock ROMs... but maybe if the bloatware drives me crazy enough, I might just dive into the kitchen...
Any thoughts on the Opera issue? Thanks!!!

That was my first guess too. Check and see if push internet is off. I don't remember how to get there since I'm using 6.5.1 and Leo Manila but it should be easy.
OK... tried this, and WOW! The wonders of what you discover about your new device when you ask! (after searching, of course)....
I skimmed over the "Push Internet" feature in Manila settings somewhere, but didn't give it much of a thought, since at the time I didn't know what it was - hey, my Tilt didn't have Push-Internet. But seeing how freaking SLOW everything, including SPB Mobile Shell (which I somehow prefer over Manila - I know, it's sacrilege!) was running, I took the advice here about Push Internet, searched on how to disable it, found this link to an article on PocketNow.com which links to a file created by one of XDA-Developers' own, and voila! Instant gratification... and an over 10MB Program memory availability jump.
Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction! Cheers!
