Hello everyone and thanks for the great forum.
sorry if I'm repeating someone elses question but the search proved fruitless.
My Kaiser receives an sms but gives no notification of it nor does it show in Inbox until after exactly 60min. (got this far now after sending myself one).
Then it will notify me according to my notification settings and the arrival time shown is 60 minutes earlier (sometimes less).
I know that I have received one because it comes out of standby and the clock shows that it is working on something. It just cannot get at it which can be really annoying.
I have lots of stuff on the Kaiser and do not want to hard reset yet. Surely the sms should at least show in the inbox?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Spec:
Kaiser originally locked on Orange UK now on o2 Germany.
HTC WM6.1 3.02.405.0 WWE
Radio 1.58.26.20
Software:
ilauncher, spb stuff, Kaisertweak, Pocket informant, Theft alert, Resco stuff, couple of SatNavs, Net CF 3.5, ip-dashboard, lots lots more
phoneweaver and other notification progs that took hours and hours to set up with profiles.
Mortbuttons with piles of shortcuts and menus.
UPDATE 11.12.2008
Changed the ROM and Radio to the following:
Hard SPL 3.56
ROM from BBR HTC 2.0 based on HTC 3.34.00.00
Radio 1.70.19.09
Anyone have any ideas as to what I could try next?
Thanks a bundle
bumping this thread up.
Hmm, theft alert.. doesn't that one mess with SMS? Most of these progs have features to silently activate them via SMS, and in order to do that it means they must intercept the messages before the system grabs them, evaluating them and forwarding them to the system if they are not trigger messages. The program could screw up and not forward the messages to the system correctly.
I'd try uninstalling that one, and if it doesn't help I'd go on with all others that would somehow be related to messaging.
THANK YOU KILRAH !
That sorted it. I honestly don't know why I didn't try that myself but sometimes it takes someone ike yourself to suggest it and I didn¨t suspect UTA at all. As soon as I uninstalled Ultimate theft alert and did a soft reset it started working.
A clear sign was the error message I got when I received the first sms after the soft reset:
"utamon.exe
InvalidProgramException"
and lots more...
Another soft reset and everything was fine. Should maybe have done a registry search to delete the rest but as long as everything is working I'll leave it.
Thanks again for your suggestion. It helped an awful lot !!
Glad to hear it works!

I have opened this thread to try and documnet some of the buggy Microsoft applications on the WM5 Rom in the hope that we can check this against other Offical WM5 Version
have started this thread so that we can document some intresting behavior of Microsoft software under our WM5 Build. As well as WM5 Behavior.
We need to be fair as we all know that the WM5 version that we have has not been released and some software might work on WM5 but has not been built for it.
I have called it Buggy and maybe that is not a good choice of words, however maybe it is.
So if you at Microsoft wrote the software it was not my or any other person who posts here intention to clam that its is your software is buggy.
Fact is somehow something is wrong.
I hope that owners of Offical versions of WM5 Can verify if they have found the same issues.
WM5 Internet Explorer
It seems that the internet explore does not download all the things that it used too.
In the case of the XDA forum over wifi you are no longer able to see if a post has been added or go to the last post as the icons that you used to press under version 1.40 and before are gone.
You also can't reply to a PM as you have no button to do it.
Thus XDA over WM5 and wifi is useless.

Can A 1.40 rom user please upload the same type of pictures so that I can add them to wiki, thanks
i'm having a problem with the message notification..
I just made a hard reset and formatted the storage, installed basic apps..and now, when i receive an sms with the power off, i only hear the sound, ppc won't turn itself on..
i could swear this was working before..anyone have the same problem?
d3vil, that's my number one favourite feature of the WM5 version of BA you're talking about there! Please tell me if anybody has it turning on from SMS, because if they do I can't ever hard reset my PPC! I have always meant that this is the correct way a unit should work, since it's often in the pocket when I get SMS, and I used to have Nice Start to make sure that no buttons or stuff was accidentally pushed because of that.
Humm, maybe i could be mistaken, maybe i never noticed it before..i guess this behavior is ok too, but im used to it turning itself on, useful for driving and at night when the sounds are off..
I think this is the default behaviour. Anyway, I always keep it on a charger when I drive one of my cars or ride one of my motorbikes. And of course I have TomTom running to warrn me of speed cameras...

Lots of problems
I had lots of problems after upgrading, the main one being that I couldn't use ActiveSync any longer.
Aside from that, I reinstalled Rogers MyMail (thier version of Push email, which worked fine on WM2003). The app installed ok, but I could not view email messages. It showed messages coming in, but the screen wouldn't refresh to show the text.
After a soft reboot, the 'MyMail' section was gone from Messaging, only Outlook and Text messages remained. The app was still there as I could fire it from Programs, but I had to reinstall it to get visibility in the messaging folder tree. Same problem after several installs and re-flashes.
Has anyone got any third party mail apps working in WM2005?
Wiki says that word crashes, I tried to repreduce it and had no luck.
Can somebody confirm it and tell me how they got it to crash. thanks
-After I "installed" the german o2 wap flatrate, I couldn't connect to a WiFi and browse in the internet over Wifi. It only works with the WAP Flatrate.
-PIE is maximum slow
-I wanted to synchronise my stuff (contacts, emails etc.) with AS and my BA. After 159 emails (everytime) my AS says that I haven't enough space on my device though I have still a 100meg's left.
-BT Problem
Has anyone managed to stop SMS from working? Something I've tweaked or installed is preventing me from sending messages - when I tap the SMS option nothing at all happens. I don't seem to be able to receive them either. With all the fiddling (Kaiser Tweak, GPRS Monitor, SBP etc) who knows what I've done. Just hoping someone else may have stumbled over the same problem before I have to reset everything back to original (It's the only fault).
Thanks
Are you able to compose an SMS at all?
Have you verified that your Text Message Service Center number is not blank?
Please provide more information. Phone, ROM, Carrier, etc...
Thanks for the interest,
I'm using WM6 standard ROM 1.82.707.0.WWE (ie not cooked) on the Tytn2, the service centre number is there and is correct according to the carrier (Telstra Australia).
It used to work fine so I'm assuming that I've tweaked something I should have left alone, or one of these installs has jammed it up - just no idea what!
If I pull up a contact and tap the 'Send Text Message' option nothing at all happens, just sits there looking at me! I don't seem to be able to receive texts either.
Installed are the standard apps plus Google Maps, GPRS Monitor, Kaiser Tweak, Resco File Explorer, TomTom, SPB mobile Shell and Diary, QuickMenu.
I know it's a tricky one to fix from a distance (so many settings, so little patience) but any thoughts would be appreciated.
I had the same problem a few months ago and tried everything. Defaulted my tweaks and adv config etc. Eventually I had to reinstall my rom which is a cooked rom and all came back and have not had any problems since then. Hpefully you do not have to do this. You should try a cooked rom.
Ok I want to take a shot at this.....
Ok Does Telstra have the ability to send SMS to mobiles from their website? If so try sending one to yourself.
Next. Go into Messaging, Menu -> New -> SMS. Type in your mobile and Send.
Oh and Uninstall The SPB product Soft Reset and try again.
Let me know If that works.
Can't find a way to send sms from telstra (easily) so tried from another mobile. The other mobile says it can't send the message. I'm (almost) sure this is my phone rejecting it rather than a network of other phone's fault.
When I tap on Messaging in the menu nothing happens - doesn't take me anywhere at all. Same thing if I tap on 'send text message' option in contacts.
Removed the spb stuff, did a soft reset, still no go.
Keep the thoughts coming though. In the end it would probably be easier and quicker just to hard reset now, but it's the challenge of figuring it out that's interesting isn't it? It's going to be one of those dead simple slap your forehead things I reckon.
Thanks for all the help so far.
Have you tried reinstalling the Arcsoft SMS/MMS client? There are many different versions floating around XDA.
OK it's fixed. Here's what I did:
Discovered that the 'Messaging' menu item in the start menu pointed to a file called tmail.exe
Used file explorer to navigate to tmail and ran it directly
Fell over laughing when it actually ran
From that time on it works via any link, such as the start menu and contacts option to SMS
I have no idea what that's all about but I'm really happy to have it back - although I haven't tested sending and receiving texts yet
Interestingly a very similar thing happened to Mortscript - I have a script that rotates the screen and runs TomTom (not mine, found on xda-dev) and it wouldn't work either after all this fiddling until I ran it directly rather than through any links. Now it works fine too.
If anyone knows /why/ it happened I'd be interested.
Thanks for all the support. Really great knowing there's such a community around.
Alrighty then, spoke too soon. Now it works when the sd card is out, but not when it's in. Same old problem, tap on messaging and nothing. With the card out of the slot, messaging appears. What the heck is this?! Could it be something to do with where messages are stored? I'm also getting this storagecard2 problem each time I take the card in and out which is easy enough to fix but could be contributing I suppose. Any more ideas?
Edit: I repaired the storagecard2 directory issue, cleaned up all the references to storagecard2 in the registry (about 4), unticked the option to use the card to store attachments, and it seems to work. I've also re-synched and re-installed spb mobileshell. Last time it seemed to fail at that last step but this time is still working. Even after a final soft reset. I haven't reinstalled spb diary.
Has me stumped but works again now. Sorry to bore you all with this but someone may have a simple answer and the ordeal might help someone else I hope.
Based on all of these issues, I would definitely suggest re-flashing your current ROM again (not just a hard reset), and do a full format of your SD card outside of the phone. It sounds like you've got some major corruption going on...

Yes delete the storage card directory, if it gets corrupt the unit won't send or receive SMS.
Speaking from experience here
Thanks guys,
I've re-done the storage card and all is still working ok. I'm reluctant to reflash while it's working so I'll wait to see how long it keeps up.
Thanks again.
I have a Touch HD and it is happily running Duttys XT3.9 manilla 2.0. I have tried many roms, and found the bugs in the manilla 2,1 just to much of a pain so i have been happily using 3.9 for a while. (BIG thank you to Dutty for giving my early Touch HD a fresh lease of life
Anyway, On all the ROMS i have tried i have a niggling problem, the txt notification sounds happily, all the other little bells and whistles chirp away happily with the exception of the email sound. Having selected it in settings it is "almost always" silent. you get the green dots on manilla telling you there is mail, it even wakens up and displays a preview on s2u2 but it is silent most of the time (only very ocassionally does it chirp "you have email") which is a bit annoying as my wife has a TD2 which happily chimes away everytime it gets an email. I even reflashed with 6.5R9 to try and cure it, the same thing happened, it will shout about sms messages but will not make any noise when it receives email, I have cheched all the settings in sounds to turn it on. Im now reflashed back to 3.9 and can only assume its not a bad flash or dodgy rom.
I have searched the forum and found a few references to the same problem, but no solutions?
Following reg entries are responsible for email notification. Check them.
There should be either a "wave" or "wma" entry for notification sound.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D65A-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}]
@="Messaging: New e-mail message"
"Duration"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000009
"Wave"="\\Windows\\xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.wav"
"Wma"="\\Windows\\xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.wma"
Thanks Tomal
Solution found, thread closed
Manilla is showing that I have 1 unread sms, when I check there is not. I click "all messages" to get to the WM inbox but there are no unread messages in there.
I have tried to go to tools and "clear SMS/MMS", this wipes all messages, and when I look in the inbox it's empty, but when i click on the "inbox"tab to show the whole sms tree I see inbox with a blue "1" in brackets. I have also tried a sof reset, with no effect.
Any of you guys come accross this before?
BTW this has only started since I recieved an SMS while TomTom was running, and I had to ignore it.
Cheers for any help you can offer
Perhaps the mail still is on the server. Try to delete the mail configuration and then configure it again.
no luck
I tried to do that, but was unable to delete the "SMS" account. I also tried inserting a SIM card from a different opperator, but this did no good either.
Hey all,
i've got the same problem since yesterday... posted it already in the topic where aqll post their problems with new WM6.5
hope someone has a solution!
I've got an official WM6.5 HTC german ROM
I'm having the same problem mate (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579772) but now manila home screen is showing i have 2 new messages when in fact i have none. I had a good scoot in the registry but there's nowt there to reset MS's inbox (as far as i could see but then again i'm not a reg buff).
I've read elsewhere that this "new message" is a known issue in WinMo 6.5..
Hoppe there's a fix for it soon...or someone here can help us out
Cheers
Mo
thanks!
Thanks for the info guys.
Has anyone seen this issue on WM6.1?

Yes, I had it on 6.1. Only started last week, but I installed 6.5 last night so I have managed to cure it, albeit in a rather extreme way.

I don't think I want to re-flash 6.5.....but that 1 message symbol is realy starting to bug me!!
For those who fixunreadcount did not work for "ghost" messages.
Try using Ceregeditor it is simple to find, works very well... I used it for my HTC pure. If you have a problem unlocking your phone, there a few threads on forums i read on how to do it. If your phones already unlocked.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\sms\Unread
Double-click on COUNT and change the number to 0 (zero). You should see the change immediately on your phone -- you don't have to do a save. If it works then save.
Worked for me instantly! Thanks to rdphoto on ppcgeeks.com, any questions on anything ill try and help, hope it works
Hi all,
I have the HTC Pure. I got a few text messages at once and my phone slowed waaay down. I deleted the 3 messages that I had, however all but one of them were marked as read.
I called AT&T who in turn called HTC and said that this is a known issue but they have no fix in place and not planned.
So now, my phone always says I have one new text message, and I went and "cleaned" all of my messages; sent, draft, inbox, and deleted.
Does anyone know of a fix or a registry key that I can edit so that I don't have to do a hard reset?
Thanks!
I think it is just a problem from your current ROM .
Like such question , I will suggest you to flash a new ROM or install a new SMS APP.
it is easy to fix the problem after you change ROM
I've been having the same problem, and we are not alone...see thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584623
I know I can cure the problem by re-flasing the ROM, but I was hoping for a less painful solution......plus there is no guarantee the problem won't happen again.
I have had this with emails before. Here is a program which fixed that. I'm not sure if it will work with SMS, but you can try....
Looks like a DB corrupt... The count is in the registry but also in the DB...
If you have a DB browser you can try to find the entry and change it....
Or you may also delete the DB, Windows will recreate a new one for you...

Nope, that's not the solution. And what kind of new SMS APP do you suggest?
Instead, try to hard reset the phone (Settings > System > Clear Storage), but back up the data (phone numbers etc) wih PIM Backup or alike into a microSD storage card.

Thanks for the suggestion. May I ask wha the "DB" is? I am somewhat familiar with the registry and I use Total Commander to edit it if need be.
I think it is in the registry as well; one value I would think. If not, do you think reinstalling the MMS software would work?
there use to be a hot fix for this on htc.com but it was for 6.1
not sure if they still have it up
well i had that problem in the past, it seems i had deleted an unread sms in the "deleted items" folder. After i deleted that one...i didn't have an unread notification...
other than that, i can't think of any solution
Had the same thing. As was suggested do a backup of all your personal data and then hard reset. No ROMS to play with no software to install (except any you already have) clean easy and cheap.

I know this is a problem with WM 6.5 and not Manilla/TouchFlo 3D. I was thinking that maybe if I can find the cab that runs when you do a hard reset if that will reset it and just install the standard stuff on top of what is there already.
On WM 5 it was easy to find that CAB file in the Windows folder but on 6.5 I can't seem to find it...

I Ran FixUnreadCount, and it worked a treat! Did a soft reset and the counter disapeared.
Thanks again!
I met the problem too, and I reset to the default configration, then restore the contact list and reinstall programmes
hello i got the same pb on my sfr 6.5 today on text message :
to supress it i have tries the fixunreadcount then soft reset but no résult
then i have wrote a mail to my mobile phone mail account ; recive it then read it and tadaaa the unread notification on sms have disaper
Fixed too
Hi, I had this problem once before (last year) and ended up having to do a hard reset.
Got problem again the other day and really wanted to avoid another HR so did some digging. This utility worked a treat.
Ran it, counter still said 1 unread message; turned off and re-started, counter unchanged; happened to receive a call almost immediately so let it go to voicemail, checked voicemail and when I'd finished the notification had gone!
From what the previous post mentioned about sending self an e-mail, I guess it had something to do with the notification system receiving a prompt?
Anyway, sorted and v.happy!
