No Sound on Text - Update Required?? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

So I've done the tweaks to get the phone to wake up on sms, enabled sounds for events and all, but still I get no sound or even vibrate alert when receiving a message.
Another post said that it was fixed in the latest ROM, but I have searched and found numerous different versions and dont want to go installing the wrong version or whatever (one version I downloaded was Asia?!)
I'm UK based.
ROM: 1.37.405.1 WWE
Date: 06/12/08
Radio: 1.00.25.03
Protocal vers: 52.26a.25.09H
Could someone help me out with if I need to update and which version (Found a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400411)?
Thanks.

I have the exact same problem, i have tried all the tweaks I found online:
- enable smswakeup in registry
- ticking the box in sound and notifications for display message on screen/vibrate/sound alert and all combinations of those three
- making sure volume levels are up
- checking all the settings in advanced config
- disabling smsthreading (which seems to start this behaviour for some people) checking smsavailible is still active then re enabling smsthreading.
- with soft resetting after each
all to no avail and i am reluctant to perform a hard reset, scary.
I believe it set in after a spate of installations, including, advanced config, S2U2, gyrator2, a trial of pocket shield and resco explorer.
Most people seem to have their problem solved by one of the above solutions, so if your reading this and are in the same boat I suggest searching the forum for them to try first, if the problem is not resolved then welcome to the club, post your situation and hopefully we can figure this one out.

Got the same problem.
I also checked settings (in both windows and in Advanced Config). Not using S2U2 or pocketshield.
If any of you did a hard reset and it helped, please post. (dun want to backup, reset and find out it has not been fixed...)
My ROM:
Version: 1.93.479.3 WWE
Date: 07/25/08
Radio: 1.00.25.05
Protocol: 52.29.25.12H
Small update.
I think I have found a fix, at least to set message sound to one of default ringtones.
1. Open TF3D Settings tab
2. Choose Sounds
3. Toggle last option two times (so it goes back to your current passing another)
4. Click More (right softkey)
5. Go to the second tab
6. Choose New SMS sound
7. Select some inbuild ringtone
8. Click OK
9. Repeat steps 4-8 skipping step 7
10. Test it.
Some of these steps may be unnecescary, there may be a better way to to this. Unluckily I don't have money for so much text messages to find a better way.

Tried this tonight, no luck.
Im thinking if a solution doesn't come along it'll be a rom update, then slow installation of the software I currently have to find the culprit (if any).
ROM: 1.93.405.1 WWE
Radio: 1.00.25.05
Cheers for the effort

HELP!!! VERY URGENT!!! MY SCREEN FREEZED ON BOOT COLOURS

Hi
I am really desperated
I have upgraded my PDA2K to wm5 and was working ok until today that freezed on the bootable colour screen.
What should I do? Please help me
NO WORRIES at xda-developers
All you need to do is go to the (Boot options) Just reset the device, as soon as it starts quickly press Record and Camera button together before the version appears at the bottom. Use the record button to scroll up and down and camera for switching it to YES or NO. Leave the top one (Enable KITL = No) and the rest of two i-e (Clean Registry Hive) and (Format Storage) change both to YES. Then press Mail button. You will see a white screen, wait for a while, you will see a start up screen for the fresh setup  If the problem still exist then put into Boot Loader (Record + Power and Reset) the device will show you Serial and USB when it is docked with the cradle. First install the W 5 again, hope this will work, if all this doesn’t works, Downgrade it to 2003 SE, Only by installing the correct ROM (available here at XDA-Developers that is without EXT ROM) cause other shipped ROMs won’t work that are provided by vendors. This will work for sure. Later you can upgrade it again with W5. And yes if you want to stick with 2003 se, just unhide the Ext Rom and simply update it with you shipped ROM provided by your device vendor. Good Luck
I'M STILL IN TROUBLE - PLEASE URGENT HELP
Thanks for your kwik reply.
I have tried all that you have porposed but still nothing.
I have tried "Just reset the device, as soon as it starts quickly press Record and Camera button together before the version appears at the bottom. Use the record button to scroll up and down and camera for switching it to YES or NO. Leave the top one (Enable KITL = No) and the rest of two i-e (Clean Registry Hive) and (Format Storage) change both to YES. Then press Mail button. I have tried to downgrade following the intructions but when should recognise the ROM comes completely in blank.
Please help.
More info please
Finally I was able to downgrade it. Will leave it like it is. Thanks for your help.
But now I have another problem. is crashing all the time, what can i do?
Prefer (HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio)
 no problem dear, just upgrade it again to W 5 Prefer (HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio) and this time make sure you stop all these services. rapimgr.exe, outlook.exe, winword.exe, wcescomm.exe, wcesmgr.exe.
(Right click on taskbar -> Task Manager. End the mentioned processes) Do Not Install Resco File Explorer cause it hangs!
Hope this time you will be more prepared to face these kind of problems.
And if you really want to stick with 2003 se, format your device with 60 kb and unhide the Ext Rom, when you see the extended Rom in (Settings -> system -> Memory -> Storage Card), then just reinstall your The Original Shipped Rom (2003 SE) that can be downloaded from the carrier.

ROM date: 03/02/05
Radio version: 1.15.00

Where can I download that from?
thanks for the reply
Where can i download the HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Wizard with 1.5 Radio from?
good decision
Use the current avaialbe Wizard ROM, later upgrade Radio available at http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/func,fileinfo/id,225/. Just run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe in Bootloader mode.

Problem with Qtek 9090 Camera

Hello people, I have a question for you. I recently did the Upgrade of my Qtek 9090 to WM 5 (device data now is PH20B WWE 5.03.02 1.12.00). It seems to be working fine (have yet to test wireless connection), but I discovered that I can't get the camera on the phone to work. For some reason, it simply does not react to camera button. It also does not react even when I try with the manual startup of pictures & videos application. Does anyone has any idea how to get out from this one? If this is any help, the original phone data were PH20B 0 B WWE E DANGA102 1.40.00 0 0 1.40.147 1.12.00 12.00.
Thanks a lot
Simple but crucial question: Which WM5 rom you flashed? Have you read specific information about this rom? maybe this one requires some post-instalation operations?
Basically, I found this ROM on www.buzzdev.net, and it only stated BA WM2005 5.03.02WWE - standard upgrade. It is basically the only one which worked for me, since every other dumped me (the model of the phone matched the ROM). However, there were no additional explanations for this, so I am stuck. Is there any registry tweak, or aditional piece of software which could make it work, or I will have to go looking further for better ROM?
As long as we don't know what is the problem with the ROM, we cannot help you - some ROMs just had camera support cut out, others needed installing additional software, some had errors.
About model/device check: please take any recent WM5 rom (baniaczek's for starters) and just read carefully flash instructions from Wiki - there is no problem with device check, if you understand what you do and how you should do it.
Thanks Jakub for good advice, I've been doing some reading and I tried baniaczek's latest issue from the web. However, I've got stuck. Namely, MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe does not work in my case. It simply tells that there has been communication error with the device, or if it starts it tells that this ROM upgrade utility was not designed for this device. I tried the other way with BaUpgrade.exe, with usage of EditFix.bat and xda3nbftool.exe, but it seems that I'm doing something wrong - each time I get the message that the specific ROM was not written for me and that I should check my vendor. Is there any way to get out of this, since now it seems that I can't do no upgrade or downgrade at all?
Thanks a lot in advance, I know this is mostly due to my mistakes and usage of unchecked ROMs.
Thank to everyone who was trying to help me. I did some experimenting in order to solve the upgrade issue, and I solved the problem. This is how I did it: Namely, I downloaded KitchenAKU3.5v2-xplode, which also contains useful readme. Basically if you want to have MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to work for you at all, you have to put the device in Bootloader mode (press power + record simultaneously). After that, the upgrade went smoothly, after I designed my own rom, which was very easy with xplode's tutorial.
One more thing I did was that after the upgrade, I did a soft reset and "cleanup" of the device. after the soft reset I changed following options on the boot screen using camera and record buttons:
“Enable KITL” set to NO
“Clean Registry Hive” set to YES
“Format Storage” set to YES. (again on xplode's instructions)
After that, I confirmed settings with pressing of the mail button. One minute later, I had fully operational and very fast QTEK 9090 running WM5.
I hope that some things I did will be useful to other people trying to fix their blue angels. And of course, thanks to Xplode for making an excellent user-friendly upgrade.

freezing when lock is enabled

I bought 2 HTC Kaisers and followed instructions on the kaiser upgrading forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
I have changed them from Chinese language to WWE 1.56
Now I notice that, on both devices, if I enable the locking of the device (with any password) after several minutes the device freezes.
Symtoms: backlight decreases (even if I set 100% bright)
- start menu icon is un-rensposive (both the top-bottom button and by using the stylus)
I need to soft reset in order to regain control of the device.
I have used the official ROM WWE and also these ones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336509
in particolar I am now using the BIG STORAGE Rom by austinsync: same problems...no improvements.
Please help!

It is a known issue. Search the forum, I think there is one app to workaround this.
Sorry, cant give you exact info because I dont use password on my device.

HELP! Unable to SMS!

This is reallyl frustrating, have had nothing but issues with this phone..but yet like little sheep i've been following along simply because i had such a great experience with the original HTC Touch.
So now my latest problem is that i am unable to SMS - either by going into Programs>Messaging or through TFLO3D.
When i press new message or reply a blank screen comes up, almost like it's trying to load something, but then nothing happens. I can click on the input selector on the bottom right and change the various input methods and they show up just fine - however, when i type or input characters, nothing happens.
Have tried soft-resetting already - am hesitant to do a hard reset yet.
Has anyone had the same issue, and recommended fixes?
Thank You.
Have you thought about changing your ROM? What ROM do you have?

ROM Version: 1.34.831.1 WWE
Rom Date: 5/25/08
Radio Version: 0.93.25.NS16
Protocol Version: 52.24.25.08H
This is the original ROM that was supplied with my phone (bought in Hong Kong) - I checked the HTC support website, and couldn't find any ROM updates.
Would appreciate some help in upgrading the ROM if there is an update out there?
Thanks.
i had that for some reason for an evening, although i think it was actually t-mob uk that had the problem cos it was fine in the morning.......
Anyhoo, try this
Start
settings
connections
advanced network
SMS service tab
There is a drop down box that has four different settings:
GSM, GSM preferred, GPRS and GPRS preferred. I have noticed that some etworks like different settings to be used here. Try the three that it is not currently set to.
change to a different setting, and then turn the phone off and back on again properly (Not soft reset) just to let it hold the settings. try it for an hour or so and if it doesn't fix it, try the next one and so on.
You can also try turning unicode off, as i have heard that sometimes that can screw it up as well.
Note that none of these settings changes should stop you from receiving SMS messages.
Edit: scratch that, i really should read these things first!
it does sound odd, have you installed any third party apps that might be interfering? sadly a hard reset may be just the thing.....

Thats an old rom...id suggest you pop over to the Diamond rom forum and install the 1.37 rom there. The TLR 1.37 rom seems to be very good from what i am reading.

I concur. the later ROMs always have a few bug fixes in so thats yet another good idea. If you're going to hard reset anyway.....

3 strange issues. (can't answer calls, dialogue boxes are empty) Please help.

1. I can't answer calls. When I do both myself and the caller have no audio whatsoever. No incoming audio, no outgoing audio on either end. When I initiate the call it is fine, the problem only occurs when I receive a call.
2. The little box that pops up when you are typing to suggest a word is always blank. I can still click on the invisible word in that box to select it, so the words are still there, I just can't see them.
3. Any and all pop up menus are blank except for the "-" character. I can still select the items I just can't see them (This is obviously related to issue number 2).

Are you running the correct Radio Version, WM6.1 ROM's need a WM6.1 Radio, check the ROM's 1st Post.

The is a ROM Specific Issue IIRC, try a re-flash of a newer ROM.

I am running the newest stock HTC ROM. The one from hong kong. So there is no newer ROM to try and it is not a radio compatability issue.
OK I tried duttythroy Disable xt9.cab as was suggested and it didn't help at all.
However, I just realized something else about my issue that I didn't notice before:
2 and 3 are only when I am in Landscape mode. In Portrait mode it works perfectly.
Any other ideas?
Honestly #1 is the real issue though, so if anyone has any ideas to try for #1 that would be great.
Here is a bit more info:
ROM version: 3.34.721.2 WWE
ROM date: 09/30/08
Radio version: 1.70.OliNex
Protocol version: 25.65.30.04H

Aha!
#1. You did a SIM unlock didn't you . Re-flash you original Radio the 1.70.Olinex is a special patched one, not for general usage.
#2 Try Disabling Clear type in Landscape, there is an option in schaps advanced config to do it (under Menu, Clear Type Settings).
#3, I still don't know what causes this, sorry.

1. I'll try a reflash when I get home.
2 & 3. Based on your suggestion I just completely disabled cleartype and now 2&3 are both completely fixed thanks!
I switched to a different ROM and a different Radio and #1 is now fixed as well.
Thanks for all your help.
