Is it possible to skin the default phone dialer? I have trouble dialing with my thumb so I am wishing I can make the buttons bigger.

I like the Dr.Shultz skin on page 7.
Make sure to explore your device with Activesync. Go to \Windows and rename Mfc80u.dll to anything (like Mfc80u.dll.old) to fix the Pictures and Video issue.

Check out http://www.paulya.com/etenskins.htm he's got some nice skins for the Eten Dialer (not Default dialer)...
I'm using the 44TI. In the past I used one of his themes and had the matching dialer... i think its the vista grass b theme with the vista trans origin dialer skin
Thank you everyone, ETen is exactly what I was looking for.
I use Matt_Jacksons blue theme and the new slide to answer phone canvas with the nice edition to cover the keys while in call.
However, Matt's theme came with a "kinda default" dialer and I would like to go back to the black on white original dialer to place calls.
Is there any way to do so by just replacing files?
I'm aware that the dialer in particular can be a very nasty animal... (been there done that on my Tilt).
I already tried to install PdG's VGA dialer hoping that after removal the original dialer comes back ... but .. guess you figured .. it didn't...

Edit: AFAIK the dialer is anyway skinable so an extract of the HTC dialer skin in VGA resolution would do, too. I have a Fuze so don't need video call.

Cause closed showaco extracted two bmp files from the HTC dialer. Replaced them in the Windows dir... done. Thanks showaco!
Hi guys,
I've noticed alot of programs seem to have smaller text & images when used on the new Diamond compared to my old Kaiser (Tilt).
For example, SMSSmiley's old icon in the compose form was a good size, now in the DIamond it is tiny along with the smilies. I've seen this happen going to a high-res VGA on a Dell Axim PDA too.
Is there any solution to this?

The only thing I can think of is that you're using third-party software designed for QVGA rather than VGA. I have no issues with the size of the built-in application icons / text.
Sorry, but I can't think of any other reason why you'd have an issue with size. If the application is designed for VGA devices, the sizes should be just fine
I know I am not the only one who really likes the HERO dialer, the layout and feel seem a better fit to me... the only issue is that I don't like the rest of the hero UI or ROM MODs currently for the Sapphire.
Does anyone know of an application that emulates this layout? I currently use Phonebook and know of no skins or mods to modify this applications looks.
Just for Clarification, I am talking about the Keypad look of Hero... as you dial a number your contact list will zero down to a possible person....
try useing a T9 dialer app, or I think the rogers rom has somethin like that...The htc dailer i think...

Here's a black dialer skin that covers not just your dial pad, but a complete skin for the HTC Sense dialer. I've set it up so that a few colours can be added to the standard black dialer, and included some samples you can try in "Energy Blue", "Purple Sencity" and "Disco Pink". (Hey, I'm told black goes with everything, daaaarling ).
This suits the HTC Sense dialer on the HD2 Leo, and as is the HD Blackstone is almost complete. (Actually it works fine on the Blackstone but with a couple of graphic glitches ) Skinning for portrait is complete, and landscape works but I haven't finished skinning it - hence the "beta" title of the CAB. I figured I'd release this now anyway. I hope you have fun with it....

INSTALL:
So to install is easy:
To be extra extra safe, before you install you can back up a copy of your phcanimages.dll file (in Windows folder on your phone).
1. Install the "Roosters Black Dialer LEO Beta2" cab. This will give you the standard black dialer as per the main preview image.
2. Copy the other "Dialer Overlay" cabs to your SD card, and install them after you already have the above black dialer on your phone to check out the other colour variations (soft reset for changes to take effect). To get back to black, install the black overlay cab.
3. Uninstalling through the remove programs menu will take you back to your standard rom's dialer.
Here's another preview showing the colour options:

Hmmm, I don't think so, but here is a couple of links to my other thread where XDA user SDroid was kind enough to try it out on his Blackstone. He's posted a couple of screenshots which show the couple of graphics glitches that appear with this dialer used on his Blackstone- these are the things I have to change a bit. Maybe you can tell which version of Windows he's using- I assumed it was 6.5 with Sense. Hope that helps.

Maybe but I'm not sure how different the Rhodium dialer set-up is, so how much work is in it! Maybe you or someone with Rhodium could post a link to a complete Rhodium dialer skin (not just dial-pad), then I could take a look through the .dlls etc and check it out. The Blackstone and Leo share many common graphics so it's not too hard to make for both- maybe the Rhodium also shares many of the same graphics files?

Yes i can help you with this.
But the stock dialer the buttos for the video call and conferent call are white i see in your Leo they are black so i think you need to make them Black or Blue etc.
So i use your Blue skin for my Blackstone dialer and work the problem is that the other buttons are white i mean the last line this is the Rhodium Dialer

I had a quick look and there are some common graphics files, but also alot unique to the Rhodium- but I'll check it out properly once I've finished the Leo and Blackstone.
Can you tell me why there are two versions of dialer for the Rhodium- are they for older and newer versions of Sense? Shouldn't I look at the newer version?

Dude i dont know what you mean by Blackstone version but i must to tell you that the Dialer i send you the Rhodium one perfectly work on my Blackstone.
So there are alot of Custum ROM`s and depending from the cheef whats is cooked there some Mostly all Blackstone ROM`s use Rhodium Dialer.
The S2 i think is because there have 2 version of the Rhodium Dialer.
I edit it a litle bid and i can send you the Dialer that im sure its work under Blackstone and is complate dialer incoming calls etc.
You just need to use program like resource hacker to edit the DLL file.
Actualy i can help you with the Dialer im just not good with Photoshop if i was i im able to create the Dialer.
WHat you need simple is just to extract the Png and Bmp files from the file that i will give you and to create them Blue like in your Skin.
P.S Bitmap 74 is this that you are looking for
So must to be edited see the atachment, this is the bottom line buttons for the call video call and conferent call so i think that the background must to be changet to Blue or Black instead of white and also you can change the buttons colours to match the Dialpad look.

Hahaha- you snuck in that image while I was sending you a PM . OK all is good- I've already done that image as part of the Leo cab.
So how about this for a plan... What if you download the Leo dialer and pull that apart to find the images that you can use for your dialer, then package it up, test it out and post your cab. Let me know which images need to be modified in your cab and I can go straight to them. Should be able to get a Blackstone/.Rhodium dialer up and going in no time .
Now will try something and will make screenshoots how the dialer looks like in my Blackstone etc.

Dude you are FAST and that is looking the goods! Again I've already done most of the graphics that are needed to complete the three main areas (dialer/ in-call/ receive call) so I'll get to work on the images you highlighted.
For now though I'm hitting the haystack- thanks again this is a bit of fun and will keep you up to date with progress. Big credits coming your way and lots of thanks (from the 5% of XDA users who have figured out how to be polite ) coming your way!

Yes it works in landscape but I haven't skinned that part. It does however have the skin that was in my ROM when I did this, which I think from memory was the nullpointer evo dialer, which is also black and looks cool but different style. At least when changing from portrait to landscape you wouldn't be going from my black dialer to a jarring stock white dialer- you'd have two skins in one .
Unfortunately I don't have WinMo on my HD2 anymore and have been using Mango and AmeriCan Android so (I know you didn't ask) but don't want to make any promises anymore about finishing the landscape skin for this.

... and sorry for responding sooo late... (it seems that the older I'm getting to the less time I have for gadgets )
On my HD2 with your skin gives a really beautiful Dialer in Portrait mode. But when I rotate it it switches back to the default skin. Unfortunately it's manly beacause of landscape mode that i wanted the black skin (when driving at night the default skin is to "lightly" and my window holder holds it in Landscape mode).
But nevertheless thank you for providing it.
