Help! My Phone is messed up! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Can someone help me? I read through the WIKI and did a search and couldn't find anything. For some reason, my phone just totally crapped out! It won't get a signal at all then after like 5 mins, it gets a full signal and I try to make a call. It just goes to "Call Ended" almost immediately and can't find the signal again. The phone will randomly accept incoming calls, but if I answer it drops the call. Also, for some reason, I can't connect to my Windows Mobile Center anymore. I am running Kumara.DK.2.WWE with 1.65.24.36 radio. It was working great, then I just stopped. This happend to me before and I flashed a bunch of combinations of ROMs and radios, and nothing worked. I also tried all the HardSPLs to no avail. Then, like 3 days later, it just started working again.
If anyone has any ideas or could help in any way, I would greatly appreciate it!
Oh...by the way it's an ATT Tilt and i'm in Houston, TX if that matters.

Sound like a flaky radio chip. Hope you are under warranty.

As long as you are the original owner of the Tilt, you are still under warranty since the Tilt has not been out for a full year.
Follow the instructions linked in the Wiki to revert your phone back to original AT&T specifications, and then call the warranty group and have them send you a replacement phone.

Yeah...I just got the phone in March...Thanks for the information! I really appreciate the quick responses!

Calls drop

Guys,
When I got my P3600 some weeks ago I didn't experience any problems with problems with calls dropping. But ever since I've upgraded to WM6 I am experiencing this problem... the calls drop at random, sometimes I can talk for hours without any disconnect, and sometimes the call drops and I cannot even call the person back... And even after downgrading to the shipped rom, I still have this problem... That made me wonder if maybe I have had problem when I got the device but at that point I was just lucky not to have calls dropping.
Yesterday was the last time a call dropped on me. I couldn't call the person back, the phone didn't establish a new connection. When I finally got the person back on the phone (2 minutes later) he/she said that the whole time she thought I was driving through a tunnel and that I would reconnect because... I stayed connected at the other phone... After 2 minutes, she said, the connection was finally broken and that's when I was able to call again.
So sounds to me that windows mobile disconnects me and that the operators network still keeps my number connected.
Well, needless to say, I want to fix this issue. I have a 3G Vodafone NL subscription but I read that 3G could be the cause of my issue. so I've just disabled 3G. Now I'm just running on GPRS... Which isn't how I want it to stay. Any ideas, same experience/ pointers how to solve this?
Thnx. Arend
Reply from HTC
This is the reply I got from HTC:
Try to remove it off 3G go to settings / phone / band - then select GSM from the top drop down menu.
Should now reset.
If it comes up with an error, turn on flight mode then do the above again.
Click to collapse
So based on this reply it seems that 3G might be causing my issue.
I replied to HTC:
I have followed your instructions but now I can only use gprs... but I have a 3G subscription with my provider. So even if this workaround works, it's not to my satisfaction.
Pls advice.

I'll post their reply.
Further, if someone has more info on the subject please let me know.
Same problem here...
No issues before upgrading to WM6. Sometimes the call drops out after a few minutes, sometimes a few seconds, and sometimes already after a few rings. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 times to finish the conversation - very annoying...
I'm running the first official Australian WM6 release for Dopod/HTC, i.e. the one that got pulled off the web for a while. Possibly going to the newer release of the ROM update solves the problem? Even though I think both versions run on the same radio ROM.
I've used the same rom as you to upgrade to WM6. But in my case, even when downgrading to the shipped rom, I still had calls dropping. And like you, sometimes after minutes, seconds etc.
Still having no drops since I have turned 3G off. But I just wanted to look something up on the internet... took minutes to get the info on my screen with GRPS, so it's not much like a solution.
This is the reply of HTC:
Dear sir,
Regarding your situation with the device , I would suggest you, to? resolve your issue with the network coverage ,to practice a hard reset on your mobile with the following step:
START -> Setting->System->CLEAR STORAGE and follow the procedure, if you have already done this manipulation , I would direct you? to this service and check the right number on this area with your network ush the green button to call->then go to menu-> option ->Services->select the on the following list ->Voice mail etc-> and then get setting -> and check that the number is right with your network provider.
Click to collapse
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, I have performed hard resets... indeed, multiple
The second action they adviced, sounded a bit strange to me. But when I retrieved the settings I saw that there was no number filled in for voicemail. So I've entered 1233 (Vodafone NL voicemailnumber).
So maybe the last action has nothing to do with my issue, but who knows.
So now I am running again on 3G. I'll keep y'all posted.
Just checked it on my device and there is already an entry under voice mail. So I severly doubt that it has anything to do with the voice mail settings, too.
No, I guess you are right.
Further, since I am running 3G my signal I noticed my signal is weaker then running GPRS-only. My calls have not dropped since but I do get complaints that people sometimes cannot hear what I say because my line goes dead, and a moment later it's back again.
I've got another reply from HTC:
---
If a hard reset didn't solve the problem and the problem only occurs when switching to 3G, than this can be caused by the following;
1. Problem with the device.
2. Problem with the network, ???
I would suggest to test your SIM in another HTC device with 3G and see what happens. If it happens again than it is a? problem with the network. If it works with that 3G device than it could be a faulty device. The experience is that it is related to the 3G network himself. If it is a network issue, than you can ask them to deactivate the 3G/HSDPA.
We can't find this out for you in the UK, you need to see if you could determine the problem yourself.
---
Thus the support of HTC.
So now I have written an email to vodafone. I'll keep you posted.
Same problem !
Try to flash your device with ROM_Radio 1.41.00.11,

Ok... but I'm somewhat confused... are you experiencing the same problem with 1.41.00.11? Or did you solve the problem by flashing to 1.41.00.11?
2----> solve by reflashing with 1.41.00.11
Ok, I've upgraded to 1.41.00.11.
So far, I've experienced no calls dropping on me.
Nevertheless, I've also made a phonecall to Vodafone explaining the issue. They acknowlegde the issue... SAY WHAT?!! Yes... they acknowledge the issue and recommend turning the device to GRPS only. WHAT?!!.. Chill, they can at least try that, who knows, maybe I would have said yes.
So, I explained GPRS only is not an option since it is a tiny bit slower then what I am paying for.
They've put the call through to their 2nd line and keep me informed. So as soon as I hear something I will get back to you.
ps. What I found very great is that they did not cut it off with "Ow, you are using the HTC P3600... I'm sorry, we do not support that device." Vodafone NL, keep up this great level of support!
Ok, so far I've heard nothing from Vodafone. And so far I have had one call that dropped. So although that is a huge improvement, it still sucks.
So... now what? The way I see it:
1. I want to have fast internet on my PDA (3G), so only GPRS is not an option
2. There are problems with the 3G network which make calls drop every now and then
3. Vodafone isn't going to fix this in a short period of time.
So the question is: what is more import to me: 3G or a reliable phone connections?
The answer is: reliable phone connection.
So I will switch my network to GSM instead of auto and when
I really need fast internet I will switch to 3G.
Case closed... well, not really... but still, case closed.
Hi
I think is not the operator problem and could be the phone problem, I am using the D810 in Singapore with Starhub and have the same problem with drop calls once I use 3G network. If I switch to GSM only than is perfect no drop calls and calls quality improve also.
So sad having a 3.5G phone and can't use 3.5G service
Could be, but HTC and Vodafone confirmed me that it has to do with the 3G network. And I do not want to know the technical details about all that so I'll leave it at that.

Should it stay or should it go? Connectivity flaw in my hardware?

I'd been using my Tilt when it succumbed to the RLoD. I went through the warranty exchange process, and received my new (refurbished) Tilt.
Inserted my SIM, booted the thing up. It was weird - I live in a place where I get 4 bars and full 3G, at least on my old Tilt. This thing was connecting, disconnecting, and everything in between. The antenna icon either has 4 bars, an exclamation mark, or three moving dots beneath it at any given time. I was able to catch one quick call from someone, but everything was rather dodgy. I didn't even bother to try the data connection.
Must be a radio problem, right? It had 1.27.12.11 preloaded. So I flashed HardSPL, flashed radio 1.27.12.17, flashed Dutty's DualTouch V3 Final. Hard-resetted and went through setup. The connection problem was worse! Couldn't make calls, couldn't receive calls, couldn't send text messages (still haven't tried data).
Upped to radio 1.27.12.32, but the service is still spotty.
I doubt this is the problem, but do I need to call AT&T and "reregister" my new handset's IMEI number? What else could it be? Did I just get burned by the same reason this handset was probably refurbed in the first place?
Any advice would be great before I spend all the time restoring this thing to factory specs and then spending another hour and $12 to get yet another Tilt ASAP.
Thanks...
PS - Just tried data. This thing can't even connect long enough to get the weather in the HTC Home Plugin.
try this, I havent read it, but maybe you will find there a solution(if its not a hardware problem).

Thanks - that's the first place I looked.
My phone showed 4 bars when I woke up this morning, so I called my voicemail. The call IMMEDIATELY ended, and the four bars were replaced by an exclamation mark.
I'm going to restore it to factory condition and most likely return it... this phone is messed up.

Call Quality Issues - Lack of audibility for other person

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following problem...
When I make a call or receive a call the person on the other end of the conversation says that I sound really quiet and that they can barely hear me. I have tested this myself and found the audibility very poor.
I've a Eurpoean model, operating on the o2 network in Ireland
Please don't flame me and tell me I should have searched as I have read the other thread on "call voice quality issues" and this is a seperate issue as in that thread they claim that they sound robotic to the other person whereas I sound fine but just barely audible
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is a major issue with the phone.
Also please ignore my signature as I haven't had a chance to update it and I've a very poor internet connection at the moment so I can't do it right now
Thanks
Hi,
I'm also using the Diamond on O2 in Ireland and I've not experienced that issue. People seem to be able to hear me fine.
Could be a firmware issue. My stock ROM was some old ME firmware but I've since flashed to 1.93.401.2 WWE. Works very well in all respects, and you never know it could help with your volume problem.
Hi thanks very much for the reply
Hoped someone else from Ireland would see my post
What radio are you using and what SPL?
Where did you find the ROM & radio? I searched for the ROM reference you gave in your last post but it showed up nothing. I'm probably not searching correctly though. I want to make sure I flash an identical version to yourself to ensure I have a successful resolution to this problem cos its driving me mad at the moment
Thanks
Hey, sorry for taking so long to reply.
I upgraded to [ROM][WWE]HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.2 5.12_1.00.25.05_Ship (post is here) after first flashing my Diamond with Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex from here.
Having done that, my radio is at 1.00.25.05 and the ROM version is 1.93.401.2 WWE. After putting on the HardSPL, I flashed the actual ROM but I didn't take any extra steps to upgrade the radio. Seems like it was included in the ROM update I downloaded. I see tutorials around the place for flashing a different radio, but that didn't seem necessary in my case.
I should also mention that my Diamond is DIAM100 (reset whilst holding the Volume Down key to check if yours is a DIAM100 too) as I think there are issues using certain SPLs with different DIAM versions.
Having done this upgrade, Opera is much faster and more stable, TouchFLO is very fast and smooth and everything is generally hunky dorey. The Diamond goes together pretty well with O2 Billpay and the 250mb data add on. I don't understand this iPhone hysteria where people are thrilled to have an 18 month contract for at least 45 quid a month. Go Diamond go.
thanks a million for your reply
After spending most of the day reading I managed to get the problem solved by installing hard SPL and updating the radio... I'm not sure how it fixed it but it did so I'm happy
I'm on o2 prepay... unlimited texts to any network is very appealing... would love a data package but don't want to be tied to a contract
thanks again
Good stuff.
Would still recommend upgrading the main ROM aswell though, its much more stable and smooth than the stock ROM.
Adios
Dave
I had the same complaint. Everytime I talked to someone, they complained about the quality of my phone call.
I called HTC and they said when the new ROM came out, it would help. It had something to do with the lack of 3G or another band.... I can't remember which band but the point is, for us, in the US, the choice of bands was the problem.
Now that I've updated my ROM, I've had no issues.
Mark
I have this issue. I hear the calls loud and clear but the person on the other end claims they can hardly hear me.
I'm using ROM 1.93.456.2 WWE from 7/10/08
Radio 1.00.25.05
Any recommendations on what to do?
Thanks
hi
in my case it was my microphone that was broken on the phone
i returned the phone to HTC to repair it and since I got it back its working perfectly
The way to check if the microphone is not working is to record yourself talking using the voice recorder. That will tell you if it's the microphone or not
Thanks. I checked and, although it isn't going to win any sound quality awards, I don't believe it's broken.
I'll maybe compare it to my Touch and see if there is an obvious difference before proceeding.
Hopefully it can be corrected in a software change...
I think I have the same problem. I posted it on the "Support Centre" thread.
My Diamond was working fine, I did some ROM updates with no problem. One day my wife started complaining that she could barely hear me. That was the case with everybody else. I could hear them perfectly but my voice was too low for them. Checked the volume and restared the Phone with no results. After a lot of random testing the phone came back to normal. This problem happened again a few days later and I noticed that people could her me fine when i was using the stero phones, but could barely hear me through the embedded mic on the Phone. This time only a hard reset was able to bring the phone back to normal.
Now things are worse! After a hard reset or a new ROM update the phone works fine for a few hours than the problem starts and nothing can bring it back to normal (only a hard reset).
I dont think it is a hardware problem because the phone works after the hard reset, but I tested some different ROMs an the problem persisted.
At the moment I am downloading other ROMs and RADIOs to see if it does any good. If someone has any idea I would love to hear it!
Thanks in advance.
@ Maddog
That sounds exactly the same as the way my problem progressed
I tried numerous radio's & rom's to try solve the problem and immediately after installing a new rom or radio the microphone worked (therefore i assumed it was a rom/radio issue) but like you it stopped working soon afterwards
Eventually no matter what rom I installed no one could hear me on the other end of the call and after ringing HTC they told me it must be the microphone. I sent it back and they fixed if for free. Must say I was impressed with their service
Thanks Lassykk,
Not a good news for me as my cell is from europe and I live in Brazil... well, I think I am going to buy a Jawbone2 Bluetooth headset and will try to live with the problem untill I travel back to europe on the end of the year.
Thanks.
I live in ireland and my nearest repair centre is in the UK. They were happy for me to send to the UK and they fixed it and sent it back to me with minimal fuss.
I assume you could send it to your nearest repair centre. Might be worth looking into it. You need proof of purchase though if you bought it off ebay or somewhere you didn't get a receipt
Hope this helps

Cannot make or recieve calls

Hey guys, 1st post so don't be tooo harsh!
Did a search on this but couldn't find anything, my problem:
When i try to make a call it goes quiet then eventually it just cuts off with 2 beeps, i cannot recieve calls either. it is connected to the network (t-mobile) and i have coverage.
i did install tweeks form this forum, i've uninstalled them and done the "clear memory" function but still no joy.
T-mobile been messing me around about sending a replacement so just wanna see if there is a simple fix, it is still under warranty but would have to wait for t-mobile to have it back in stock, which i dont really want to do.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks
Kaled
Only time I have seen this (and I see it daily atleast on 2-3 phones a day!) is when a phone is barred/reported lost or stolen
But from the sounds of it, you got it on contract so I doubt thats the case!

ATT Tilt radio will not work on ATT 3G

Recently about two weeks ago I had the RLOD. I took the battery in and out a couple of times and the amber light came back on. Since then I have had problems with my phone. It will show a strong signal with the 2 "H"'s sometimes but I can not make or receive a call. If I call my phone, the phone I'm calling from will ring but my Tilt does absolutely nothing. I can't connect to the internet or send/receive text. Last week I went into my settings and forced it to only connect to the GSM/Edge network and the phone works fine.
I dont know what to do? Any thoughts as to what could be wrong? I need my phone working right because im using a BB Storm right now and it is killing me!!!!
I have tried hard resets to no avail. The only mod that I have done to my phone is flash the HTC TYTN II rom on my phone and I did that when I first bought the phone almost two years ago.
Please Help me!!!!!!
R 1.27.12.11
Seems like I've read this problem before, do some digging around and hopefully you can find the other threads.
Thanks! I tried a search and found some info but nothing quite like my phone unless im not searching for the right thing?
