Due to lag problems with the internal GPS i would like to use an esternal bluetooth GPS reciever with with IGO8. I have got this to work with TT& but only have the local map for this. When I try to set up in IGO8 I can't find a settings page. Is it possible to do this or am I missing something obvious.
You have to make connection to your bluetooth GPS receiver, assign COM port and then in iGO select that COM port and speed. And it'll work ;-)

Has anyone else had a problem keeping a Bluetooth GPS receiver paired with Tomtom. After much messing about I managed to get tomtom working and even paired it with the receiver, but when I switched off tomtom and restarted it the next day I had to redo all the pairings again, altering com ports etc.
Surely this can't be right
same problem here,
still looking for a solution, will post here if i found it, if you can find it first, please post it too...
i'm gonna take a look at the file properties written by TomTom, maybe they are setup to be readonly, making Tomtom forget it' setting and rest the com-port settings after every restart.
i m not sure yet if it's a tomtom problem or a bluetooth / gps problem of windows mobile 5.

Bluetooth tomtom
Look in the registry for the com9 change that to com7 (the com port you used for pairing with gps device. It should work. Bought regedit.net for editing the registry
try to change in registry
Where do you change it in registry edit
Did you open up the GPS control panel?
I found thizs excellent walk thru a few month's ago & have had no problems whatsoever.

I finaly found the problem: at the bluetooth pairing setup of the com-port, the default selection is to use a secured connection, but it seems like TomTom doesn't support a secure connection very well..
so if anybody else has this problem: remove the current bluetooth pairing of your GPS device, repair, select the serial connection, add a new outgoing port to be for example COM6 and remove the "secure connection" selection.
Open TomTom and select the COM port you used as at the Bluetooth pairing com port.
Now, when the GPS is turned off and back on again, the pairing will be remembered and TomTom will immediately recognize your GPS.
I hope this will solve some problems for other people too...

i just got my hands on a t-mobile navigate carkit with a
thb bury 021303 gps reciever
but i am unable to get a gps signal.
does anyone know how i set the gps so it will work?
i already installed the latest tomtom, the latest navigate software.
and i tried all of the com ports.
but still i dont have a signal.
Have a look at this
If this is the receiver you have, then you need to mechanically alter the device and change the NMEA settings.
I'm sure there is a similar explanation on how to do this in english.
Sascha
i checked out the site you mentioned.
i have a different gps mouse then the one that is displayed on the picture.
so unfortunally this work around doesnt work for me .
any other suggestions?
I've brought this GPS: http://www.techfocus.co.uk/GPS-Rece...TFSN20&tduid=9c2b6aadcc4ca8e0d3f6a72baf759c60
but can't get it to find any satellites on S730 trough Google maps or Route66 (Route66 says no GPS). If anyone has the tool or any tips, please let me know
Edit: Found the GPStool and it finds three satellites and has fairly good reception, but Route66 doesn't find it.. says there is no GPS...

Thanks I had done that, but I found my mistake... I don't get to connect to any satellites where I live, so I have to drive some meters before I get any signal...
Thanks everyone
Or try this app
For reasons I won't bore you with, I need to use my external GPS BT unit with Route 66. The version of Route 66 I have does not seem to allow you to set manualy any GPS settings and instead needs to be done through External GPS of Windows.
Problem is, my bt unit is paired and says its Com0 but if I try to change this in External GPS from "none" to Com0 it always defaults back to "none" meaning I can't lock.
Im using Swiftblade 7 with radio 25.5, any ideas?
edit: sorry, did try search but didn't come up with anything usefull.
i have the same problem..

you should try to follow instructions by agorapho99 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2591556
If your GPS SW is too old to work with GPS intermediate driver on Windows Mobile, I recommend that you find port splitter SW to do the job. I use "JAL Port Splitter for WM6" to make Mapopolis work with HTC Diamond internal GPS. You can google for it, it is freeware.
I am wondering how to use the Bluetooth GPS for my X1.
I find that I can't use my BT GPS in my X1. Even Mapking or Google Map, I can only use my build-in GPS.
When I want to change my "GPS Hardware Port", I can't do it. It reset to "none". I already set a port for the BT GPS.
Maybe someone would say I should use the build-in one, but it use much battery.
And I can't connect the GPS for long time while I am hiking or cycling, I don't want to take the X1 out > connect GPS > see where I am.
By using BT GPS, I could log the track and find out where I am easily.
Sorry for my poor English. Could anyone help me? Thanks.
Which program do you use and which external gps?
I use TomTom 7. I just pair the external with the X1 and then open tomtom select external gps and voila... it is working automatically. I don't have to select any port or baud rate or anything else.
The bluetooth will also eat up your battery.
But in in any case, in your control panel/settings there is an icon for "external GPS", which you need to set.
a gps is only a receiver where bluetooth is a transceiver
and transceivers use more power and they have to transmit too
so i'd say that it would cause faster batt being empty
