scrolling questions in TF3D - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

been using my diamond for a day or two.
it has been great but i have one complaint though.
This is with regards to scrolling in TF3D. For example, when i have scrollin through my favourite people list. If i try to scroll back from 1st person, i can't, i have to scroll through no.2 and no.3 to get to no.4. By the same token, when i am at person no.4, i can't scroll forward to no.1.
This doesn't just apply to people, but also apply to scrolling through photos and music and basically all the scrolling in TF3D actually.
It's quite annoying actually. Are there any mods that will allow me to scroll in a loop?
thanks in advance

Is there a way to turn off TouchFLO?

i dont like to use touch flo and would like to know if someone has found a way to disable it ?
thanks, eric
their is touchflo option in settings (under system I think), should allow you to disable it
Go to the the TODAY settings...
From the Today Screen:
1. Go to SETTINGS
2. Select TODAY icon
3. Select ITEMS tab (at the bottom)
4. UNCHECK the "HTC Home" item
5. Click OK and go back to the Today Screen
It should be gone!
TEC
the touchflo (finger panning) option is the one i want to turn off.
i still want to keep the htc home in my today screen.

there is only one checked box about the sound on/off when panning. no where to disable it.
I'd love to turn touchflo off. It seems pretty worthless. It scrolls a page to slowly and in PIE its hard to get it to stop when u get to a spot you want to view.

I had followed above with soft reset also, but still the "touch flo" function running in PIE. This is pretty annoying and useless function if you used to your finger scrolling webpages with PIE plus.
Another one can helps..Thank.
Try changing HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings\EnableScroll to 0 then reboot.
I haven't tried it yet.

That worked perfect neighbor. The touchflo scrolling made it near impossible to drag separator lines. I greatly prefer to tap in the scroll-bar field to page up/down. Thanks again.

Out of curiosity does that change also speed up PIE scrolling the normal way ? - cos it's super laggy and worse than TyTn in the out of the box setup.
Mike
Well if i hold my finger in the scroll bar field it will page up/down at 4 pages a second. The reg edit doesn't seem to have changed anything other than the touchflo scrolling
TouchFlO Scrolling and Sound
A Couple questions here:
Is there a way to tweak touchflo scrolling such that it only goes one page length at a time, instead of 4 or 5?
Is there away to turn of the clicking sound as it scrolls?
I'm assuming these are just annoyances of an immature feature that was rushed out the door, but hoping there are fixes available or that HTC is smart enough to fix the problems in future releases.

Have you even looked at the settings in your tilt\Kaiser? you would have found atleast on answer to your questions just by looking around and learning your device!
I guess to each his/her own, but I personally think the TouchFLO interface is a huge improvement in usability. Perhaps it just takes some getting used to. And with TouchFLO, you can still essentially do all the things you could without TouchFLO. E.g. the scroll bars are still there to be used if you like that. And you can still use the stylus for normal operations. There seems to be some confusion about how it works so let me explain the "use cases".
The way TouchFLO works is this:
- use a finger (not your fingernail) to "drag" the screen up/down (or even left/right if the page is wider than the screen). The page should drag with your finger. It's semi-smooth. Not truly smooth, but smooth enough. When you drag, DON'T lift your finger from the screen till you've got it positioned to your desired spot.
OR
- If you use your finger (not your fingernail) to swipe up or down AND LIFT your finger fromthe screen as you do it, then the screen with scroll by itself to the end in that direction or until you tap the screen again to stop it.
OR
- if you use the stylus or your fingernail, then it will NOT scroll like above. It will then behave like a normal stylus control (highlites and selects instead of scrolling).
So, the screen reads a broad touch (like your finger) differently than a narrow/pinpoint touch (like your nail or stylus).
once I got used to it, i found it to be an excellent upgrade in the interface. I don't think it was a "feature that was rushed out the door" at all. in fact that it reads the stylus and your finger differently speaks to the idea that thought went into it.
Use it on a web page to see the different use cases. If you browse a PDF file, it'll drag even with a stylus because you can't "highlight and select" within a PDF file, so it knows that use case is invalid.
Also, You can change the sensitivity by using a reg tweak: HKLM-DRIVERS-TOUCHPANEL-PRESSURE THRESHOLD. Increase/decrease it for more/less sensitivity.

Nice writeup, thanks!
Richard "Still Jonesing for a Tilt"
I wish there was a way to partially disable the Kaiser implementation of touchflo --specifically, the feature where if you drag scroll and your finger ends up at one of the edges of the screen (which is really easy on a 2.8" screen using your thumb) it goes into the continuous scrolling mode. I wish those edge regions of the screen were treated just like any other.

Thanks from me too for this tip. I don't use TouchFLO and I found the touchscreen on my TyTN II a bit annoying with this enabled. Sometimes it wouldn't react to tapping so I had to tap twice. This was maybe one out of every three or four taps.

Scroll wheel adjustment

Is there a way for the scroll wheel to "scroll" within rows. For instance, I have SPB Mobile Shell and Phone Alarm installed. Both apps have multiple icons in a row. I can scroll to a row, but I can't scroll along a row.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

You might be right but it's generally considered reasonable to give it at least one if not a couple of days before bumping a thread.
So ironically, here's a free one on me!
Mike
i noticed that when i click programs or settings and use the scroll wheel it scrolls through every item in those areas. it just won't do it on the today screen.
i'll be a guinea pig. does anyone know the registry keys that govern the scroll wheel?
I am also interested in figuring this Horizontal Today Screen Wheel Scrolling...
It's a Scroll WHEEL, not a Track Ball!

Isn't this why we have a D-Pad?
How can you expect a 1-dimensional control to work in 2 dimensions?
In Schap's ROM, the scroll wheel does scroll across the HTC Home.
2-dimensions
Geez chill cushcalc. I don't think he wants the wheel to be able to scroll up/down and left/right at will. Instead I think he wants it to scroll through each item in each today plug-in, instead of just scrolling from one today plug-in to the next. I.E.- scrolling down goes from the 1st item in htc home for example, to the second, to the third, etc... and then from the last htc home item to the first item in the next today plug-in. I know, I know, there are tons of retards posting tons of uber-retarded questions on this forum, but diar is posing a valid question.

Here's a free bump. Would love to have this feature as well, cuz I'd really to have one-handed use on the PDA. Using the D-pad requires thumb gymnastics which may result in dropping the phone
Even better, if there'd be a way to switch the scroll mode from line-by-line to page-by-page in certain cases, i.e. while browsing a document, or a web page.

Why the lag between home and contacts?

I had done tweak #1 which sped up TF3D. I do notice that when I'm on "home" and click the contact icon, there seems to be a huge lag before the "all people" icon comes up for instance.
I've tried to read all the posts about speeding up TF3D but they seem to make TF3D move faster in general, as a whole.
My TF3D moves quicker from icon to icon (ie. home->people->messages->mail, etc, etc)
The lag is the softkey button on each icon (ie. home has phone/programs... people has all people/menu...messages has all messages/menu)
Are there any other tweaks to speed up TF3D?
Thanks,
Mark
Yeah noticed this too. Maybe lag is due to it effectively waiting for the animation top complete under the old performance ?
About a second or less, when I click from Home on the People button and All Contacts becomes available...
the lag is most likely due to loading up the contact photos of ur favourite contacts. however, after flashing the lqtewt cooked roms based on 1.93.xxx.x there is no longer any lag.

TouchFlo scroll problem

Ok, first to the admins/moderators - I searched my ass off trying to find a thread with my problem, to no avail... so if there is one, please excuse me...
So here is my problem - I find it very difficult to scroll any list with my finger because I just end up selecting some item from the list... Is there any registry setting to, lets say, delay the select behavior of TouchFlo? I mean, for example, I try scrolling my contacts, I AM able to scroll but almost immediately after I start scrolling I end up selecting some contact!?! Am I the only one with that problem? PLEASE HELP!
Bump. Anyone?
I just have the problem the other way around, I just can't select multiple items because everything starts scrolling...
try scrolling with finger in more center of screen
selecting works if you scroll motion on left or right side usually

Also , make it more of a " flick " with your finger, instead of a touch and drag scroll.
So there's no registry setting? I have tried changing settings in HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings, HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCGesture, HKLM\Drivers\Touchpanel, HKLM\Software\HTC\TouchScroll... can't seem to make any difference!!! The screen becomes more responsive, scrolling is faster/slower, but no effect on my problem - whenever I try to scroll I always end up selecting... there HAS to be some setting that determines the delay from scrolling to selecting behavior... it works so well on the damn iPhone... also works beautifully on the S2U2 settings screen... they should fire all the idiots at HTC and hire the S2U2 guys to do their interface!!!

Oh well, I guess I'll just wait till some genius dev out there finds out the right registry key, I give up
I hate to say this, but I think that is the expected behavior or TouchFlo scrolling.
You can drag to scroll specifically (and I don't believe this selects anything, at least on my Tilt), or you can swipe to start kinetic scrolling. If you click while kinetic scrolling is occurring, I think TouchFlo causes a selection to be made (although in places where single-click activate is the default, I don't think it actually activates the item--it simply highlights it).
You may be able to resolve this by changing the TFLOSettings\FingerPressure value.
I had a problem for the first six months with TouchFlo where the context menu would pop up about one in three times I tried to scroll (swiping or dragging). This happened even the moment I started using the device. Completely and utterly unusable. But after the third or so time I tried adjusting TFLOSettings values in the registry, I finally solved the problem. I ended up with TFLOSettings\FingerPressure=0x64 (100) and TouchPanel\PressureThreshold=0xC8 (200).
I REALLY wish HTC or someone would produce a complete guide to customizing TouchFlo scrolling (including the meanings of the TFLOSETTINGS values). It really works well, once it is optimized. Although, it will be great if Microsoft builds scrolling into the Common Controls in WM6.5.

Actually there are genius developers in here. I think you're just being a little picky, the touch flo works fine for me.
I think I recall a touchflo sensitivity setting in KaiserTweak. Get it, then try setting the Touchflo sensitivity to the most sensitive option possible.
Dave
+1 on Kaisertweek, altho I reduced sensitivity instead of increasing it. Technique counts too. I tend to use nails or stylus for browsers, especially Opera. Use keyboard for contacts, and scrollwheel to dial it from there. Every phone is different, but reducing sensitivity via Kaisertweek worked for me.
Problem solved
Finally figured it out and now it works perfectly. The culprit was the too high value in HKLM\Drivers\Touchpanel\PressureThreshold.... I put a value of 160 (dword:000000a0) and now I have almost iPhone experience
heres a thread closer !
to bring some closure to this thread, the following utility will solve all your touchflo woes!!!

Left Handed People Rom

I'm one of the 10% of left handed people in the world and was wondering if anybody had managed to make a rom for kaiser for us lefties if not then whats the best solution as the scroll bar on the right hand right means my hand is over the screen so i cant see while i have to scroll hope someone can shed some light on this
Try looking around here, although I don't remember seeing any left-handed ROMs there. As for the scroll bar, there was a thread about that in the Off-Topic forum a while ago, and although many agreed that it would be nice to do, nobody had the slightest idea how one would do so.
You might want to try a WM6.5 ROM, as they have excellent finger scrolling (so long as you disable Touchflo scrolling in Kaisertweak).
Dave
we should make a seperate lefties forum lol
I agree, for me, WM6.5 overall works great. Contact, home screen, app launcher scrolling were all seamless. and the old control panel type stuff is gone so you get to use the honeycomb to browse through the settings options.
for me it's way better than trying to use a tiny scroll bar no matter what side it's on.
