What to do if your pocket IE is slow upon established conection? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have a small problem with my HTC Tilt. I have had it for 8 months now and I have noticed that when ever I try to conect to use the internet from my phone service provider, it goes slow. I would close the data coneection and the browser and re-establish data conection after clicking pocket IE. It would never do this. I was woundering if someone ever came across this problem and if there is something to correct this issue? Bad luck always when i really need to use it for a good reason it is soooo slow. 1 out of 8 times I have a good fast conection. Please help.

enable 3G in your comm manager, if it is not already open

It seems to be that it was a netowrk error for over 3 months of fixing the darn thing. Thanks for the QUICK response.

ActiveSync hangs on Orange TyTN II

Subject says it all.
AS works (usually) for a while after reset, but then it just hangs saying "Synchronising" but gets nowhere.
Sometimes killing and restarting AS works, but usually I have to reset the damn thing.
Anyone else having this problem/found a solution? Not sure I'll get any sense from Orange (in fact, I am sure I'll get sod-all sense from them!)
Ferg.
P.S. Got HTC Home, iMate WMP Today, Live Search, Voice Command and many other apps installed. Perhaps it doesn't like Home or so.
More likely its a connection thing.
Try disabling advanced functionality in Start, settings, connections, USB-to-PC
That will make it try a USB connection instead of an IP based one.
Sorry, I should have said I was referring to AS on the device itself - it's Direct Push that's mucked up.
I meant on the device... but that was based on AS with pc
However, if you have an exchange server in the mix, then I would guess it either is losing the connection to the server. What happens if you leave it until it errors? (ie what error code)
Can you sync with the server OK when you do connect with USB to an internet enabled pc?
Well, the funny thing is it doesn't give me an error (or I've not waited the hours required for it to time-out).
The TyTN I have works a lot better under the same circumstances (same Exch, same account, sam SIM card etc, so it would deffo point towards the TyTN II itself.
The only thing left to do, I supose, is to ramp up the Exch logging and see what that says, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope of that.
Thanks for your assistance, unwired.

Ok so its definitely the device...
Do you have signal issues on 3g where you are? Is your network allowing simultaneous voice and data? Have you installed the server certificate OK on your device?
Yeah, all the Exchange stuff is configured correctly - that's my job after all.
No 3G issues (since I use the TyTN from the same place.
Although I did notice recently that I can't actually have adata connection and a call at the same time (with 3G coverage). I guess I should be able to...

sorry to bring up an old post,
having same sort of problem, but only when trying to get attachments. seems to take forever, (5-10 mins stuck on syncing then looks like it gives up) but the attachment is then there, which is crazy as its a 30k word doc which should take seconds.
did you work out any kind of solution?

using tytn II as modem in vista

Hi!
I'm having trouble using my tytn II as a modem in windows vista. I had no problems in windows xp but since i installed windows vista and use internet sharing application this is what happens:
I get connected and a new networkadapter (NDIS) is detected
I recieve a local ip-adress of 169.xxx...
This is making me crazy and i've searched the forum without beeing able to find anyone with the same problem...what am i doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
I understand, you use it with USB cable, may be using it with Bluetooth will be better, because in this case Windows will recognize it as a modem.
Please provide some more information about how did you make the configuration.
Did you make it as it was described in the user guide?
Hi!
I did make the configuration exactly as the manual describes it and my device is syncing correctly and everything. It even installs as a network driver when i use the internet sharing application. But it just wont give me an ip-address...
I've had this issue for over a month now and it feels like vista is blocking the service or something, but i just cant figure it out...
PLEASE advise!
I have the same Problem as you !
As a matter of fact, I have an ip but vista says that I'm connected to local network but not to the Internet.
But at the same time I have an illimited data plan that runs perfectly when using Pocket ie...
Still searching for a solution...
But i'm sure it comes from vista...

No problems!
Hi guys.
Ive used this feature with vista with no problems at all..
Just turned internet sharing on and it connected to the network connection then vista aked me what kind of network it was (Home, Work Place etc) and hey presto it worked.
Mine is a T-Mobile Vario iii btw.
Never really had a problem either though it's much too slow compared to a "real" USB-3G/HDSPA-modem. (I max out at 1.2-1.8 mbit/s but when I use my dedicated modem I easilly reach 4 mbit/s)

Yeah this is killing me! I get the same as you, i get a IP-address but its a local one 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and vista says its a local ip-address...
I've started looking for services that may be stopped and such in Vista, but i still cant get it to work
I also can't get it to work, so if my WiFi goes out and i need internet, i just reboot to XP... Obviously not a solution, it's very annoying. I'd love to figure this out. I think my friend said he got it working, i should get details from him!

Guys, this is not the solution, BUT, until someone finds it, this is a awesome way to get around the problem! Just install the application, start it and tap connect. Now on your computer you'll find a new adhoc network using wifi, connect to it and your ready to go!

Spontaneous Connection

Having decided last weekend that my Kaiser was way too fast, I loaded it up with bloatware.TouchFlo,HTC Cube,6 Tab Home Plugin,New HTC Default Theme,Audio Manager, Home Customizer,Comm Manager and Kaiser Tweaks. Most of it I loaded as .cabs or .zip thru Missing Sync for Mac. I also downloaded Windows Live Services and set up push email for my @live account. Everything works great except the phone now spontaneously connect to MediaNet (Edge) all day for no reason. The connection is not followed by email or anything else, it just connects. When I check Task Manager 95% of the time Activesync is running but not always. Have set Activesync from " as they arrive" to manual. The phone still connects for no reason. The notification that the phone is connecting comes up , I press cancel, right away it tries to connect again and again and again, then stops and five minutes later it will connect again. I know this is long but I know how you all like enough info.Any thoughts on causes or solutions?
The phone is doing what AT&T (or your phone service) told it to do - constantly make sure that you have a connection to them. This will drain your battery somewhat. What you want is that it should DROP all connections unless you TELL it to connect.
I think that you want to search for Kaiser Tweak -(oh wait! you already have that program) you will notice that you can make the phone connect only when you have told it to - i.e. make an internaet connection or check email. You can have the phone drop the connection one minute after that.
Have you actually used the Kaiser Tweak program? If not you should use it first/next.
I believe that this will most likely solve your problem if I have understood it correctly.
(PS - I recommend that you use the SEARCH at the top of the forum before posting next time.)

Thanks Bill...... Already went thru Kaiser Tweaks and set every single setting to advised setting. Set all the connection settings to connect manually and to drop the connection after one minute. It wil not do either.Google is my friend. I have google searched this forum and have used forum search. In the past two days Mon. and Tues. I have read thru more than 2000 posts and wikis before I decided to start a new thread if I have missed something I am Sorry and would have appreciated a link to this information that I have missed. I have had the phone since last Nov. and have been pretty faithful in reading this and the HTC wiki and forum and cannot figure this out.
Sorry again, Denco

internet sharing and charging..... the fix
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
does your handset stop charging then restarts after a little while using internet sharing, if so read below
a few things to check is to try internet connection on another laptop(sometimes if you have many loads on usb it can cause a problem , i have experience this twice with a compaq n400) at the location where it is happening,if the fault is present then you have identified the fault is with the handset or network.
your next step is to try internet sharing at a different location from where you are experiencing the fault and see if the fault reoccurs, for me it wasn't until i decided to try internet sharing in another area that i discovered that the fault was network related, even though my network provider were adamant it wasn't (this fault is also related to cases where the handset gets very hot within a short space of time whilst using hspda/gprs).
if the above test is carrried out and you identify that it's location based then speak to your network provider (but be persistant)
today my handset can sit idle or be surfing for xyz and it is barely warm....
hopes it help
Oooh, I experienced a similar problem like this on one of my previous HTC device. It went away on its own--or maybe it was because I started using Bluetooth instead of USB for internet sharing.

Do you use internetsharing by Bleutooth with your Diamond? I can't get it running, is there any workaround to get this running?
Thanks in advanced
Willem
provider i do not think it is course i got simcards from different companies both act same way ..
ill try find another laptop see it problem stays the same..
im not a shark in this but my guess is bluetooth uses more battery than usb connection and since my problem is that im running out of power cause the usb connection just stops charging im not sure the bluetooth will help me in this case ..
Prolly something toasted inside the phone unless it isnt vista making a fool of me

Pocket IE 403

Hello all,
I just upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1 on my ATT tilt. I ran Kaiser Tweak to enable the HSDPA, which is working great. I won't be charged by ATT for enabling HSDPA will I?
Anyways, my problem is that when I try to open Pocket IE and browse to a website I walways get a 403 error. I have tried running Disable Proxy.cab and Enable Proxy.cab but it is not working.
Any help is appreciated. Much thanks.
I can't answer your question sorry, but let me point you towards Opera 9.5 browser - much better than pocket IE, imho.
How are you "Connection Settings" set?
Use the HTC Auto Config CAB (install and soft reset)
After it ran go the the MediaNet connection and select:
- User server assigned IP address (under TCPIP and Servers)
- Proxy Settings check "The network connects to the internet" (first box) all others off.
You SHOULD get at least an Edge connection. I don't know how BUT without a SIM card with the "3G" logo I was never able to get a 3G connection but that's a different story.
Edit: Attached the HTC Connection Setup Auto CAB
I tried your method but I still haven't had luck.
I believe it is because I have an iPhone 3G data plan which doesn't have MEdia NET. Is there a work around for this? I only want Pocket IE because Opera Mini cannot download files.

but the guy was suggesting you to get Opera 9.5, not Opera Mini.
Once you start using Opera, you'll forget PIE soon

If you have not figured out the answer to this let me share my experience with this issue.
This is an annoying AT&T issue with your data. In 6.0 IE used to just show a blank screen when it happened, 6.1 now shows the 403 error. This happens for no known reason when the data decides to just crap out. It's very frustrating and happens a few times a week it seems.
If you have soft-reset your phone recently (turned all the way off) you've probably noticed that it's working again. Soft-resets fix this issue, but can be a hassle if you're in the middle of something. Fortunately there is a quicker way that was posted on a similar thread about the same issue.
When you get the 403 error, go into your Com Manager (where you can turn off wifi/data/phone etc...) Turn on Airplane mode, when completed, turn off Airplane mode. This will reset your data enough to fix the 403 error without soft-resetting.
Give this a try next time and see solves the problem.
Edit: Just noticed your post about having the iPhone data. Not sure if this is the issue or not, but if so my solution may not do anything for you.

But for some reason, Opera is too cumbersome when trying to view information. You have to continue to ZOOM it so you can see. Then, also, it will not allow you to view certain data on web pages. I use Skyfire to view websites. I HATE the zooming feature on it as sell, but at least I know it'll pull up all information. Maybe it's Active X or something.
