Hi, maybe you can remember that I was complaining here about the program folder scrolling speed. I tried many of tweaks, but no one worked. I lost any hope, when it comes to me - I didnt want to try 1.93 ROM, becouse of lose transitions Manilla animations, but I tried TLR 3 ROM, and even I didnt expect it - programs scrolling speed increased MUCH! I dont know if this is due to TLR modifications or the 1.93 ROM (I will try original one and post) but I am so happy now, whole user interface is now even speeder than "glory" Omnia. I LOVE HTC, I LOVE Diamond. I had many devices - P535, A701... (Asus, Mio...) but I never gain as performance boost with new ROM as with the Diamond. Now, I miss just G-calib.
where can i get that ROM from?
cheers
That matters, which one do you want? For original, you must register to htc.com (e-club), before you can download it, then you can find new ROM in download sector - device upgrade. Or you can download one from XDA, I prefer TLR ROM´s, just click on search and type TLR 3, all instructions are on same page as TLR 3 is.

Hi, is it normal that srooling in programs is slower against other devices? For example my brothers Asus P535 has perfect speed, if he moves slider quickly, no problem, no lag, absolutely smooth, bud diamond isnt. Why?
Try doing the tweaks in the tweak thread for a start or if you want flash to another rom ie the TLR rom is pretty fast and tf3d is quite smooth and fast on that rom.
Have a look in the rom section of the forum and see which one sounds good to you.
Yes scrolling in "Programs menu" is reaaally slow ... compared to my previous 200 mhz original Touch it's ten times slower and almost impossible to control it with thumb because it takes a lot of time 'till it scrolls down...
I solved this by creating sub folders in programs menu so I don't need to scroll...
Maybe this is because of VGA display and slow GDI support, but I think this really needs some improvements or tweaks.
Any of existing tweaks I tried don't help - Glyph cache does nothing and Fatfs/Filters cache broke my system so I needed to hard reset... And as I can see this filesystem improvements have no influence on graphics performance...
ROM 1.37.401.3 speeds thinks up little bit, but I think windows GDI performance is still very bad on Diamond...
Is GDI accelerated in other ROM? Or can it be solved with some tweak to original 1.37.401.3 ROM?
Yes the scrolling speed is a real issue, it's laggy and sometimes not responsive.. This is a real pain in my ass because I'm coming from a 1st gen iPhone which had extremely smooth scrolling.
i must be lucky...my scrolling is so fast i wish sometimes to know how to make it slower because i can hardly have time to read the name of the programs before i stop...i usually have to scroll back..
no tweaks applied only bepe's last ROM....the biggest tweak of all
Any chance that HTC can solve this problem? I mean - can´t hardware handle it or just bad software?
Well the newer roms have the newest version of TF3d so maybe you want to try and flash to one of them...im running TLR rom version 2 and its fast and tf3d is smooth as silk although it will still lag but not as much as the stock rom does.
I just hope that HTC will make some ROM with major performance incerase, becou HW is not bad. Like my A701 mio. First uséable ROM came out after a year.

I think we are not talking about TF3D but about basic scrolling in WM - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiVRouS6HwE and on this video it is not so bad - the more programs you have the slower it is...
When I flash the Bepe's ROM can I then flash back to 1.37.401.3 without losing warranty? Do I need to flash back original SPL before and if so - is it available?

You might want to check out someone1234 post in the tweak thread above...hes figured out a way to shorten the lag between scrolling screens...give it a try and see if it helps.
Yes I was refering to basic scrolling in WM, not TF3D.. My TF3D is running very smooth with no noticeable lag.
We must hope that some new ROM will solve this. Anyway, same thing the HTC logo after start or power off. Why it is thare if it is not played smoothly? I know this is becou os phone quick start, but anyway, the should gave a picture there.

i dont tink its a issue htc can resolve -> its a os problem -> so its a ms problem.
Do you? I dont know how WM6.1, but my last device WM 5 had 5 times faster scrooling. Is diamond scrooling speed on other devices from other brands? Some E-ten? Mio? etc? I think this is exactly kind of issu HTC can solve very easily, if they would want.
Can someone with other than official-production ROM tell us, if scrolling and GDI performance is better?
Thanks
Yes I tried TLR ROM and it is not. But some good news, I found articles about same slow speed in other devices after upgrade on WM 6. I found some tweak too, but it helped only bit. I wil continue, if I sort out this problem, i will tell you how.
I have decided to buy the HTC Diamond and the only thing that worries me is that this phone could be too slow (going by the various reviews on the web). I am very new to this forum and will appreciate all your feedback and advice. I am using Glofiish X500 at present (OS is WM 5.0). My usage is very much limited to internet, e-mail, text mesaging, calendar and of course making phone calls!! I am not a huge photo / video user though I have a fairly decent collection of MP3 and WMA files that I would love to listen to on my new Diamond. Also, I have a very large address book. How will I transfer my complete address book from my old Glofiish to Diamond? I assume I have to take back up of my old phone and restore this back up on my new Diamond. Am I correct here??
Contacts issue
Syn Glofish with Outlook on your pc.
Get your diamond.. Sync diamond with your outlook..
done.
1.9.3 firmware is fast...
The phone being slow... depends on what ROM you are using. There are plenty of cooked roms available on the forum to choose from. You can find them in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=430
if you don't want to use another rom, there are plenty of tweaks available to improve performance on your diamond. You can find these - at the link below:

Get your diamond. if you have any problems with the speed, use another rom or try the tweaks.
Thanks LordRaj and Steffan for your advice.
No , it can fly

Let's put it in this way, the device itself is very fast. Each cooked ROM is trying to optimize memory usage by finding balance between freeing resources and using additional software.
Now IF you flash the lite ROM version with minimal additional software the phone will fly.
BTW the main memory eater is nice and new Diamond 3D interface (I'm personally preferring SPB interface for speed and usability, but this is personal choice)
Cheers
Very fast
Last night i loaded the 1.93.405.1 ROM from the HTC Site and now it flies through the contacts. Make sure you dont leave all your apps running in the background this will slow it down Start - Settings - Task manager and close the ones you dont want open
Hope this helps
Hi guys,
I see lots of stuff in here about how to flash your rom and endless threads of different types of cooked ROMs etc but I can't see anywhere anything to explain why people are doing this.
Would someone mind just very briefly telling me the pros and cons of flashing?
Thanks.
pros:
-often get new features - like the new touch flow interface from the new rhodium and topaz htc phones. without flashing, you wouldnt be able to get this.
-you can install new OSs such as windows mobile 6.5
-if you want to, you can install "lite" ROMs which have very little features and as a result are faster
-you can also get "heavier" ROMs which tend to be a bit slower (with some ROMs such as Duttys, the difference is small)
-have many features/apps already "cooked" into the ROM to save you installing them yourself after a hard reset
-some have new drivers which improve performance.
-some have custom interfaces
-process isnt that hard once youve got hardspl/uspl sorted (and that gets easy after a short while too). its all run through an app on your computer with your HTC connected via activesync to your computer which is about as easy as installing a program (just click next, i agree etc.)
CONs
-can take a bit of time to get used to the process
-if you dont use a backup app, youll have to reinstall all your apps and contacts (everything on the main memory is wiped clean thugh SD cards are left untouched)
-if the cabe gets disconnected or the computer loses power during the flash, you can screw up your htc pretty bad
If you use your HTC for more than just its basic features and want to get the most out of it, definately flash a new ROM. the performance increase is noticeable going from a stock ROM to a well cooked ROM. Duttys 3.3 XT is a good place to start, however, youll have to hardspl your phone with the latest hardspl (its one of the stickies on this subforum)
Hi 449514
The main reasons are that either people are dis-satisfied with the way that the stock TF3D interface works for them and try to customise certain elements of it and/or they are trying to improve the speed, battery life and or memory available on their machines.
Those are the pros, of course the con is that there is no "official" commercial support for any of these Roms as they have been developed on a personal basis.
Hope that clarifies matters.

Yes, is a Crazy World... I like it..
That's brilliant guys. Nice and simple. Makes perfect sense to me now and I understand the stuff in the other threads a bit better now!
I'll have a further read of all the stuff and then go from there.
Thanks a lot
maybe it's the reason 4all of us buying a wm device, the potential & possibilities are endless..

Hi All,
Just want to say a big thanks to all the great developers out there such as Dutty, Miri, topix, energyrom, xannytech.. etc.
Without you guys I think I would have sold my HD a long time ago.
I think I have flashed my Hd almost every day or two, since I had my hands on it. As there has always been a bug or two in every rom.
I have been a long time fan of Dutty's rom. But now that its stopped at the holy grail r0, the builds have been updated. Its great to have used his roms, but its still not perfect. So recently I've started looking again at other cookers.
I've been using WM 6.5 for a long time and I don't think that will change. But recently I have tried every combination wm6.1/m2.1, wm6.5/m2.1 wm6.5/m2.5 of different cookers, and tested. To see whether I have been missing out on anything.
I've finally come to a conclusion that wm6.5/m2.1 was the most stable and smoothest rom around. That brings me to Miri's roms. I've tried the wm6.5/2.5 v18 and wm6.5/m2.1 v35.
Miri's Wm6.5/2.5 v18 was great, but like every m2.5, it is still abit slow. and since I dont like the new HTC messenger, I would lose out on the mms. Well I dont really miss mms that much, but I've been without it for 6month+. And if I try to install Opera 10 on it, my pop up menu's were all screwed up and its one of those things I couldn't accept.
So lastly I went and tried Miri's wm6.5/m2.1 v35. And I must say, I think this is the one. There are a few bugs there, but I will post the links down to fix them.
First is the Miri's Rom: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493911
Before flashing Miri's rom there are a few things I would like to note
1. lockscreen delay that you would most likely want to fix by adding a file into your storage card.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587931
2. Pagepool changer to make the rom amazing I've tried countless sizes, but I've come to a conclusion that setting my pagepool number to 0 was the most effective.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269
Now you can flash the rom
After installing, you would notice on the settings tab that the line is missing between communications and customise tabs. And the line between g-sensor would flicker when you scroll down to it.
This is the list of things I would install:
1. Autolock - install csdevctrl.6.5.cab and play with the settings to your liking.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386451
2. Chinese support - Just a unicode to read asian languages,
link here //rapidshare.com/files/135293786/uhei00m-gray.cab.html
3. 2d/3d driver by Neos2007 - make wonders for games on HD and also seems to fix the line problems on the settings tab.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496528
4. Gfxboost by Chainfire - This is abit complicated, it doesn't boost the graphics, it's more like it smoothens the display. So its more pleasant..
read more here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509704
5. Opera 10 beta - This is sooo much better than any other browsers. When you load a webpage, it used to show those annoying blocks that hasn't loaded. Not anymore! anyways no harm to test right? Just flash hasn't been implemented into it yet. But i dont mind..
download here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
6. HD Tweak - Im sure most ppl know this one. I just use this to change the left and right keys on the home screen. And turn off the sms sent notification. Thats about it
Just a note, although there is autolock function in HD tweak, it doesnt work that well. As soon as the backlight goes off, it doesnt come back on till you push the power button and back again.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452505
Lastly: Im not a fan of the HTC task manager. So I normally turn it off by disabling the quick menu on today screen tick box. And just shortcut in programs tab to MS task manager.
Thats all I had to share
Hope you find your rom that works for you. This one just happens to work perfectly for me..
I use KWBR's rom.
I didn't choose Miri's as the log is not clear.
Energy rom is also quite impressive I would say.
Could you elaborate the better side of the Miri rom from your view?

if PP is set to 0, most probably the OS will adjust according to usage...
actually now i'm looking for stable WM6.5.x with manila/Sense 2.1 (as close to stock as possible, something like wajk's blackSTONEhenge), but most of recent ROM comes with Manila/Sense 2.5, which is a bit tough on the HD...not to mention lock-ups problem, even those who has flashed custom ROMs in HD2 is having some problems...when that time comes, i'm more than happy to stick with kwbr's topix 3.2.5 (might flash to the latest version as it comes with EzInput 2.1, which i like a lot)...

As much as I appreciate your comments, this is obviously your opinion and a lot of users may agree or disagree.
I'll continue to leave this thread open to see where it goes for the time being
Hi i have tryed to search for it but don't think i am typing the correct thing. What are the benifit of putting a updated rom on my Toch HD? I just put htc's latest on and see no diffrence. I have been looking at overclocking it slightly as i think it runs so slow has any one done this?
Regards
Chris W
You cannot overclock (atleast not where stable) the blackstone. there was a program floating about at one point which did OC it to 600MHz (something like that) but that would crash if touchflow was enabled, but i digress. To improve performance, i suggest you install the driverpack which is in the how to improve graphics performance thread in this forum.
If you want some more speed, i suggest you install a custom 6.1 ROM (topix, the one by kwbr, is a personal favourite). alternatively, you could adjust the pagepool of the ROM youre on atm (would require the ROM image youre using and later a reflash of the edited image)
That said, the stock ROM was very quick for me. programs loaded almost instantaeously (most apps, like notes, youtube, WMP, but not opera or games, as these always take a second or too to load onto RAM). the only thing that put me off the stock ROM, was the fact that everything worked a bit too well for my liking. it was kinda boring. ever since i started screwing around with it (with this aid of this forum ofc), ive been able to do much more than i could with just a stock ROM.
