I have the Laurentius ROM installed on my Tilt (8925). For some reason every so often the sound notifications for "new text messages" and "new email messages" turn off. It's annoying because I may go hours without checking my phone since I don't think I have received any TM or emails. I thought it might have to do with the way I'm switching between ring and silent (by tapping on the icon at the top of the today screen) but I'm still not sure what's causing it. Can anyone help me out?

Do you have Opera installed?
Yes I have Opera 9.5 Beta installed.
That is the problem then...Opera disables the notifications....if you open the sounds & notification settings then start opera they won't be changed, but you have to do it that way every time.

dammit! I was wondering why my text notifications kept turning off. STUPID OPERA!
This is a known bug with the opera 9.5 beta. The first beta would do this for me however, with the current beta it seems to be fixed for me.
Wow, who knew it was opera causing the problem. Thanks for everyone's response. I'm gonna try the new beta version and see if the issue clears up. Thanks again!
New opera killing internet?
Yea, the new opera beta seems to have solved the notifications bug, yet now it seems to be killing the internet connections after using it and have to reset every time. Is anybody else experiencing this? I've never experienced this until I loaded the new opera beta a few days ago.

Recently I've noticed that reminders which I set up in calendar events have stopped working. Basically, I get no alarm sound, no notification, no nothing. Like I'd never set that reminder up. :-o But at the same time clock alarms are working OK - just these in calendar don't...
I've tried to check notifications queue, clear it up from duplicates using ScaryBear Check Notifications, restart Kaiser - still no luck. I have no idea what to do to get my reminders working again. Any suggestions, anyone?
I'm having the same problem. Also, the voice command works but it continues to repeat the announcement over and over. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Did you get any help?
Same here
Any fix to this problem? I got the same thing here. Missed a couple of meetings because of this..
Updates to WM 6?
Any solutions? This is now getting really 'alarming'. Is this a WM 6 issue, and isn't one of the most used features of a smartphone/pocket PC its alarm functionality?
A solution is urgently called for.
Try cleaning up the notification queue using MemMaid
There's a demo version.
Download pmclean from pocketmax.net and use it to clean notifications.
It is freeware!
I've tried pmclean, it does clean up the notification queue, but that doesn't solve the problem of no sounds for reminders and notifications.
I hesitate to try a paid program like memmaid, since people have reported that the problem is not resolved even after using memmaid.
I find it hard to believe that Microsoft is releasing an OS that does not provide robust alarm functionality. But is it possible they have done so?
Possible, certainly.
But do try out MemMaid, they have a demo version.
Memmaid Tried
Bought memmaid v.2 and deleted all the notification que stuff. NO CHANGE. Calendar reminders still not working..GRRRRRRRRRRR
Can someone who have solved this issue soon read this que and report a solution ?
I ran into a similar issue recently, so maybe it can help you.
Do you have QuickMenu installed? If so, are you showing the battery meter on the task bar and in all programs? If you do have this set it may be the cause of your issue. Try unchecking the box to show in all titles, and see if this fixes it.
Hope this helps.
I am now experiencing this. :-(
Did anyone ever find a fix?
Thanks
Only with existing notifications?
Hi,
I do have this issue also. But only with existing notifications. When i make a new calendar item with a reminder, the notfication works.
After i've cleaned the notification queue with memaid (duplicate, dangling, expired and invalid notifications), not a single existing notification is working. But after setting the reminder again (first, set reminder to none, save, and then set reminder again) the notification is working again.
I'm testing now with memaid, which has a rebuild notification queue function. I'm hoping this function will help.
Greetz, Creda
i'm getting this problem now. my phone has been working great until this happened yesterday. i've already hard reset and it occured again approximately 6 hours later. i then fixed it using memmaid but now it's occured again. it seems when i sync to my computer it jacks it up. any fixes?
Cingular 8125
Original OEM ROM
regular applications
Add me to the list.
I have had the free plugin 'Today Agenda' but I disabled it and still have problems.
Any more updates to this issue?

Come back to this again ... I've still got a problem with this ... any of you guys had a fix for this? Or can anyone else help?
Thanks guys ...
I'm sure this isn't the first time this has been a problem here. I've tried searching and found nothing.
I installed the XDA-Live 1.2... installed flawlessly. Installed the other apps I wanted, everything was working like a charm. Now suddenly I get no audible notifications on either email or SMS even though I have them set correctly. This just started yesterday and I installed the new ROM almost a week ago.
I've checked every setting I can think that would interfere with this and I just can't figure it out. Any ideas?
Here's what I have installed:
AT&T Tilt with the XDA-Live 1.2 ROM
Softkey app
Shantz Today Changer
Battery Status
Mobitv & XM Radio
Google Maps
Telenav
HTC Home Plugin & Customizer
HTC Task Manager
Wireless Today Plugin
IM+
SPB Pocket Plus
Pocket Controller
Mortscript
Pocket Cleaner
Auto Softreset
PIM Backup
SPB GPRS Monitor
I think that's it. Like I said, I've had all this installed since last week except SPB GPRS Monitor and Pocket Cleaner. Those were installed about 2 days ago. Notifications were working after that.
I'm just at a loss. Any ideas?
If this is a stupid answer then apologies but have you tried a soft reset?
That can do the trick if notifications have suddenly given up the ghost.
Not a stupid question, I should have included that I've tried that as well. Thanks anyhow!
did you install vibra, the tool that allows you to turn on vibrate with a button press?
I didn't. I don't have either email or SMS set to vibrate either. Just the sound notifications. I'm really perplexed by this.
This may be another stupid troubleshoot but most problems are normally overlooking settings
Make sure in Sounds and notifications, in the sound tab that Events, Programs and its subgroup notifications are checked. And then in the notification tab make sure play sound is selected!
And don't forget to make sure system sound[i.e. not on vibrate, silent, and/or volume is raised to an audible level] is up too!
If all else fails, a hard reset should resolve the issue, it could possibly be a missing reg key mistakenly deleted.

I agree, hard reset if all else fails and put you app cabs back on one at a time, see if all is OK then move onto the next.
It colud be a conflict with one or more of them.
That's what I was afraid I'd have to do.

If you do a hard reset and find a problem with any apps please post it back here and edit the first post to include SOLVED.
It could be very useful to all on here.
Good Luck.
Thank you, I certainly will.
At least now I have something to do tonight.
I had same problem..
No sound and no camera working,
I fixed it by installing original rom and radio, I read somewhere it is due to radiio.

My sound and camera work fine. It's just those 2 notifications that aren't working. All my other alerts work, even for the IM+ notification.

Just thought I'd update. I hard reset with the XDA-Live 1.2 again. Before adding anything else, I created my mail account (Not an Outlook account) and then tested notifications on email and SMS. SMS is working perfectly once again. The emails aren't getting any notifications at all, no matter what I set. Strange but I can live with it. At least my SMS is back.

Well you are getting one buzz, (OH Bloody hell, turn that water on!) but its really strange for the other? Have you a non-standard audio file selected for your notification for mail because some media files will not play!

But on the serious note. Yeah I've tried every sound file I have. I've tried no sound and just vibrate. I've tried nothing but the message window. It adds the emails and I can see the HTC today screen add the new mail but nothing else. It's very odd.

Do you have any 3rd party apps on (and soz its late here (UAE) so forgot the previous posts) any rom differences (ie cooked)? cause this is peculiar and sounds like a registry conflict!

Nope, I was sure to test this before adding anything other than the XDA-Live 1.2 ROM. I have no idea what's up with it but I can live with it as long as the SMS is working, which it is.
And I should mention, last week when I had initially added the XDA ROM, it worked after that so it's not a conflict in the ROM.
For some reason the "thinking/waiting" animation continues to pop up. Soft resents don't work. I have done a couple of hard resets to start from scratch. It just keeps coming on for 2 seconds and then disappears for about five.
Have you experienced anything similar? how do I fix it?

We need to know what you actually mean.(soz to sound patronising but this is a world wide forum and I have only just got used to 'Tethering'...)
OK, I assume you mean the busy icon (rotating symbol like the hourglass from old windows).
Do you have any automatic mail checks or any other app's that require data access running in the background? (as they will not work without the following) do you have a working internet setup?
Let the guys know these things and someone here will surely help you...
It seems like that pesky Activesync activating. Next time that happens, go look at your taskbar. Most likely its Activesync "activating".
Sometimes it happens too me a gazillion times a day. Sometimes it never happens at all. Still trying to figure that thing out.
To clarify, I am referring to the rotating red/green/yellow/blue circle. Here are the explicit details:
Unlocked TyTN II (ROM version 1.56.405.5)
3G At&T SIM I have a std voice plan and the unlimited media net internet plan
After the last hard reset I installed
Pocket Informant 2007
Memmaid
Resco Explorer
SPB Pocket Plus
I have a hotmail and gmail account setup to check the servers frequently, although that was the case before this started also.
The circle animation appears in flight mode also.

OH WOW....
review your startup apps, use a file explorer and browse to /windows/startup. List for us what is starting up in there.
Unfortunately, i just isolated the cause of that friggin wait animation. I uninstalled SPB Plus 4 and now it is gone....Here is my new problem:
I love SPB Plus!!
What do I do now?
what options of PP4 did you have turned on. I use PP4 and that never happens so it's something in your config.

Well you've grabbed smitty now who will sort ANY network prob out.. I'm off cause he blows me away in this area..
I'm just general stuff and GPS so I know when I am not wanted..SOB! BIG SMILES...
I had all of the options ticked in PP4. I guess the most important to me is the today plugin and the x close app. I will reinstall those and leave everything else out and see what happens.
This kind of sucks.
hmmm... after reinstall PP4, try this:
First, check the options you want and see if the same things happens. If it's not doing it, then maybe it was a bad reg entry on install.
if it's still doing it, then go to settings > system > task manager and make sure everything is unchecked.
My thought process on this is maybe you have the Close button from PP4 and the built-in task manager trying to compete.
Let us know...
i installed the Today Plugin, Close Button, Taskbar Battery Indicator and PIE Enhancements. It looks like smittyofdhs saved the day.
Thanks a lot, guys.

was it just a reinstall that fixed it or did you do something more? It helps to list out what steps you took to fix the problem, for the sake of future users of this forum
glad to hear it's working again....
As simply an enthusiast, not an expert, I am guessing that your advice was the solution. I don't think the reinstall by itself resolved it.
I would say that the original issue stemmed from conflict between the built in HTC task manager and the PP4 x-button.
I uninstalled pp4. Before reinstalling I disabled all function of the HTC task manager. Then I reinstalled only the PP4 today plugin, battery meter, x-button and PIE stuff.
When I have more time, I will uninstall pp4 and reinstall all of the pp4 components as i believe that the issue is isolated as described above.
Thanks again. you saved Christmas.

Hi Smitty,
I don't think it is the PP4 close button as I have also encountered the problem after installing version 4.0.2. I have always disabled the close button and battery indicator of PP4 as I used WKTask and pwrstat respectively.
As the busy indicator only showed on the Today screen and I have only 3 plugins activated (PP4, HTC Home and Calendar), I disabled the plugins one by one and found that PP4 is the one causing the problem.
Checking the options of PP4, I disabled the "Refresh icons in today plug-in when storage card is inserted." option. The problem disappeared. However, when I enabled back the option, I was unable to simulate back the problem.
Until now, I still have that option on but the problem has not manifest again.

glad you fixed your own issue. In ellistyle's case, my solution helped him. Maybe they are 2 different issues caused by the same app. Either way, everyone is happy with their fix.
opera works ok until i try to log into facebook, then i get the old "sorry opera has encountered a problem" and closes.
This has only started happening since a hard-reset which was forced by applying the second tweak in the tweaks thread.
I have also noticed that opera has started taking forever to render pages and sometimes completes loading a page but the screen remains blank, and when entering opera's settings all text is black until i hit a button and then its text will become white and remain white.
Anybody experience similar issues or shed some light?
I currently have no tweaks applied.
Sorted it after another hard reset
after 2 weeks with no problems from opera,it finally happened again!
I dont wanna keep hard resetting everytime opera goes mad.
It is not just closing down when i try and login to facebook but after a few website changes it just crashes out.
Has nobody else had this experience?
Does this happen while you use gprs/edge/3g/hsdpa connection only or it happens with wifi connection as well? If the first, and you are on T-mobile, try disabling the proxy.
cheers for that!
I already had it disabled, but enabling it then disabling it again seemed to work!

Glad you go it to work. I had a similar problem before with gmail.com and few other sites. Seems like the T-mobile's default proxy is unable to handle secured connection.

Im having problems with Google Talk on my phone.
Normally, if u start a chat. and the other person is talking back, u should see the txt under your own txt. But i only see it as a balloon in my top-tray of the phone and do not see the txt written by the other person in the chat overview.
Anyone knows how to solve this?

My gf and I also have Galaxy S phones. Her device is running on I9000XXJFB firmware, mine is on I9000XWJM2. Shes having kinda like the same problem with GTalk: the screen is splitted to 2 sides (top&bottom), instead of how mine works (the good old conversation-look, when A-B-A-B persons messages follow each other).
Maybe its firmware-dependent? I did not find any option to change the layout in the settings menu.
Firmware is probably a good bet. If you want to hold off, have you tested to see what happens if you turn the setting balloon top-tray setting off? Would you see nothing at all? Or would it populate the message how it should.
You probably want the best of both worlds, it's worth a quick test if you have any reason to delay upgrading firmware.
disabling the notification button in the toptray would be a bummer anyway because then i wouldnt be notified if somebody is messaging me.
i downloaded a beta version of Hi GTalk from the market. which is working as it should work so i guess my problem isnt solved with Talk it self, but with installing an alternative app.
i think you'd still receive the sound notification. As long as you are going an alternative app route, i'd. consider uninstalling and reinstalling GTalk, it might just be corrupted.
good point. i will uninstall it and reinstall.
[edit] hehe i cant uninstall it. its "in the factoryrom" so i see. i dont see it at the installed programs list..?
gtalk still problem
Hi, I have the same problem with gtalk, also after upgrade to Froyo any ideas ?
solution
Solution:
Change time zone to the right location unbelievable, but it works !!! layout is dependent on internal time zone.
Good luck
