audiopara.csv files - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I am having difficulties trying to apply the audiopara.csv files on forum to make my htc diamond ring louder. it tells me to replace the audiopara.csv files in the windows directory.
1) they are all read only files and cannot be changed?
2) even when I found installers to change the files for me, when i applied those settings, there is no difference in loudness at all!
3) I also found a file called audiopara3.csv??
to conclude, how do i change the settings to make my phone ringer louder as I most of the time cant hear it ringing at all!!

Corrupted ring tone error message

Can anyone please help me with a serious problem that has reared its ugly head. I am currently running ROMeOS v4.6.0 but I have had this problem is other ROMS before so I'm posting this cry for help here. I keep losing my notifications sounds ie when I get a text message no alert sounds and there is no vibration despite the fact that I have selected that both should occur in Sounds & Notifications. In the Sounds and Notifications page if I select an alert from the drop down box for, say, "New text message" I cannot preview the sound when I click the sound preview button and when I select "ok" I get the error "This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone" This happens for every alert sound listed.
The bizarre thing is sometimes the notifications and vibrate works but usually doesn't. A soft reset can fix the problem temporarily but I have no idea when the problem will re occur.
I will mention that I had previously saved a few Diamond alerts and ring tones in /Windows and Windows/Rings respectively but I have now deleted them in case it was this that was causing the problem. I'm have now just selected the alerts that came in the original ROM but I'm getting this error message again and again and missing my SMS's due to no alerts/vibrate.
Does anyone have thefaintest idea what could be causing this strange behavior? I have searched but despite a few references to this error no cure is mentioned. Can anyone help with this?
Solution to the problem "This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable..."
Hi everybody!
I used to have the same problem. When I tried to set an mp3 ring tone for incoming calls or when I tried to set an alarm with mp3 sound, a box appeared saying "This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone." The ring tone defaulted to Ring-WindowsMobile. I use Samsung SGH-i780 PPC with Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional. The problem occurred after installation of .NET compact framework 3.5 or after installation or deinstallation of NoteM 1.21 voice recording software. I have read many posts and come to the conclusion that apart from hard reset of my PPC there is no other useful suggestion on the web So I had to figure it out myself and I did
First thing I have noticed is that I could use *.wma ring tone and alarm sound. So i used Free Mp3 Wma Converter 1.8.0 on my laptop to convert two mp3 files, meant to be used as a ring tone and alarm sound, to WMA format and then I put them it into /My Documents folder, using ActiveSync. Then I could select these two wma files as my ring tone and alarm sound. Good start.
Then I realized that when I clicked on any mp3 file in file explorer, this file did not opened in my Windows Media Player Mobile 10. So I used my Total Commander for Windows Mobile (Total Commander/CE V. 2.51), which by the way is a great stuff, to set default application for opening mp3 files. After "right-clicking" (i.e., holding down the stylus/mouse until a context menu appears) on any mp3 file you can select Properties. Then choose second tab - Open with. Here you should have an antry ".mp3 -> mp3file". If you do not have one, you can add it by clicking on the Open with button and typing: Command: wmplayer.exe (this application is in \Windows folder, so you do not need full path), Parameters: "%1", Icon file: \Windows\wmplayer.exe, Index: 0. Last two options are not essential. Note that %1 must be quoted! Ok, after accepting these settings, you should be able to open your mp3 files with Windows Media Player. Not bad, right?
The second step involves editing your registry. I am going to describe how to do this with the aforementioned Total Commander, which fits this task very well. You should go to the root of your directory tree: \. Then choose \\Plugins\registry\HKCR. First, go to .mp3 folder (you can just start typing letters - Total Commander will navigate you to the proper folder) and enter it. Click on Default - you should see mp3file. Yes, this is one of the results of setting WMP as a default application to handle mp3 files.
Now, the most important part comes! Navigate to another folder in HKCR, called mp3file and enter it. In my case, I had only two subfolders here: DefaultIcon and Shell. By the way, you can see that subfolder Shell\Open\Command contains a key Default with value wmplayer.exe "%1". This is the second of the results of setting WMP as a default application to handle mp3 files. So, coming back to the point - we are in mp3file folder. Now, you should set a correct event sound handler for mp3 files by adding the following folders: Shellex\EventSoundHandlers\{245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893} (i.e., you have to add Shellex subfolder, then enter it and add EventSoundHandlers subfolder and then enter this subfolder and add next subfolder called {245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893}). Note braces in the last subfolder name! Ok, once you are in the subfolder {245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893}, add a new DEFAULT key by hitting New value, then ticking default check box and pressing the OK button. When asked for the value of the new default key, type XME EventSound Player and accept. Now, you should be able to set mp3 ring tones as well as set mp3 alarm sound. At least I was able
Two more notes:
1) The name of the subfolder created in HKCR\mp3file\Shellex\EventSoundHandlers should be identical to the name of the subfolder in HKCR\WMAFile\Shellex\EventSoundHandlers (it seems that wma and mp3 files are handled by the same event sound handler). If you have different subfolder name in HKCR\WMAFile\Shellex\EventSoundHandlers, and your wma files can be set as a ring tone and alarm sound, use your folder name instead of mine ({245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893}).
2) You can reenable an option of setting mp3 file as a ring tone from the context menu. To achieve this, you need HKCR\mp3file\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{...} folder. In this folder add default key with value Set As Ringtone. Check what should be placed inside braces (instead of ...) by checking the name of the folder found in HKCR\WMAFile\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. My value is E88B4A18-6F77-4bb6-8E0D-DCD4B1F8F1DA.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Can't change Ringtone....

I'm running HTC Home on my tilt...Today I changed my default ringtone from a mp3 file to another mp3, but it didn't change.... I can play the files, so I know the files are good, but it will not change in HTC Home or under the system>sounds & notifications....
Anyone know what I need to do?
Firstly, make sure that your mp3 files are associated with wmplayer otherwise you cannot play mp3's as ringtones, secondly make sure that your mp3's for ringtones are placed in the device/rings folder. That should sort it out.
I moved the file to the rings folder, but it still changes back after I close the sounds window. The ringtone that it is currently using is a mp3 file in the My documents folder. How do I check to verify the program mp3s are associated with?

Can you go into the file explorer i nthe programs folder, then browse to the mp3 you want to use as a ring tone, hold the stylus down on the file and select "set as Ringtone" from the drop down list.
What does that do?

That's easy. What file explorer app do you use? If you use Total Commander (Freeware), then you can associate all mp3's with WMPlayer The WMPlayer icon should show on those files, then you know what app it's associated with. You go File>Properties, select the Associate tab and then select WMPlayer from the Device\Windows directory.
In Resco Explorer, you Tap and Hold file for a pop-up menu and then Open>Open with, and then select WMPLayer.
mskip... It's says "the file has been set as your current ring tone."... but it doesn't do it.
MACkjam.... I use just the file explorer from WM 6.1... the ringtone it's set on is a mp3 file so I would assume it has the proper assoc..
I deleted the mp3 file that was set as the ringtone... it moved down the list to the next mp3 file and now I can't change it......
I have tried changing the ringtone via:
1. File Explorer
2. HTC Home tab
3. System>sounds
In system>sounds, every time I try to change it, it looks like it's changed and then I can go back to see, it's just like before.
In HTC Home, it allows me to select another, but it never changes......
Is there a place in the registry I can make the change?

Does it allow you to set non mp3 RingTones? eg. the ones that came on the rom.
no, it is currently set as Ring-WindowsMobile.....I can't change it to anything else.... HTC Home still has the ringtone as mrbeannokia, but the system settings has the Ring-WindowsMobile....
It seems that I can change other sounds, like email and MMS sent...
Could this be a problem with HTC Home?

I have had the similar problem...haven't found the solution to this day.....but there's a workaround delete or move the ringtone which you're using now(ring-windowsmobile - [if it's in rom then you might have a problem deleting it...in that case backup your files...hardreset your phone and check if you can change ringtone on clean rom]) and then you should be able to assign a new ringtone. I've notice that the problem doesn't occur on "clean" roms so most likely some application is screwing up your "Feng shui"
Thanks Arturo... The ringtone is on the ROM, so I can't delete it.....I was hoping I could avoid a hard reset.....

Well in that case you could try to search for a program which allows deleting or renaming files in rom.(I'm not sure if such a program exists at all but it's worth trying if you don't want to hardreset your phone)

Yes; here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0 - edit sound
ie:
Code:
*vibrate*
is equal to vibrate.
Code:
\My Documents\My Ringtones\*put song/ringtone file name here*
" is the default file location.
Thank you zeezee...but I had hard reset my phone before I read you message....
after the hard reset, I installed all the programs I had before and tried changing my ringtones after each...every thing worked fine, until...
This morning, I could change the ringtone, but it would change back after a phone call, so I looked at everything that could set my ringtone and decided that Phone Alarm was the problem... I removed it and now everything works correctly....
I appreciate all the help y'all gave me....

lol yeah that is a bugger
What Rom are you using? Is it a stock rom or a cooked one? If it really bothers you that much then it might be worth just flashing a new Rom rather than spending your time trying to figure it out.
go in the registry and change the HKEY_Current User> ControlPanel > Sounds and deleted the key of FileSizeLimit.

I am having a problem even getting WM Player to update the Library with the songs from the storage card. It only shows my device as an option and not the storage card. I have taken out and re-inserted the memory card, but still nothing.

XPERIA Ringtone Volume

Hi all,
I searched the forum and didn't find someone else asking the same question, so if someone else did then I did a bad job searching the forum.
I just got my XPERIA yesterday. I am not facing problems with it yet, maybe in some time I will but as always SE will find solutions for the problems (hopefully).
My main concern here is the ringing tone volume, does anyone else find it low even when the tone is put to the max. I also got the SE C905 for my other line, and it's the same with all my SE phones the ringing tone volume is good leave the volume 5 and the sound is heard pretty well when the phone is not near me. The reason I want the sound louder is because a lot of time my phone is on my desk and I am talking to someone in the office, or even when I'm home I leave it in my bedroom and go to the kitchen, the volume in the X1 won't help much. I read on another forum one of the users playing with something in the registry to make the ringing tone louder but didn't say how.
Can anyone help me out here??
Thanks in advance.
having the same problem.. the volume is really low when at max...
was hoping someone possibly finding a solution to this
try this it fixed the problem for me
right, same problem here... I tried to tweak the \Windows\audiopara.csv file for sound volumes but is REALLY different from the touch or raphael

does this break the volume control?
Hey guys,
I actually have the opposite problem. When the system volume on my X1i is FULL, it seems to 'clip' really bad and the sound is distorted. I therefore my leave my volume at 80% max, and sometimes it still sounds 'tinny' and distorted. I think this is because the speaker is quite crap, as my HTC Universal had much better sound.
billybob, I would just double check that while you're holding the phone, you aren't covering the speaker hole with your hand. It is VERY easy to do so, and this HUGELY affects the quality/volume of the speaker. In case you were unaware, the speaker is on the bottom left side of the phone.
Interested to hear what others think about this, but I can tell you that I do NOT have low volume for sure.
If it's your ringtones only, then you might want to look into editing the .wav/.mp3 file and increasing the levels that way. I always make my own ringtones, and I find that sometimes I need to increase the dB levels a bit more than normal.
theres already been a couple of threads on this, you do need to edit the correct audiopara file, have a search for audiopara on my username
patterns
I downloaded and installed the HTCVolume.cab file on my X1. Did a soft reset too. Now what next? I dont see any new program or any change in the volume? Am i missing something?
I did the same, nothing's there. I will try searching for the audiopara solution maybe it will fix the problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443276&highlight=volume
I dont think its a general volume problem. It seems the Xperia is playing custom mp3 ringtones quieter than the standard ringtones that came with the device.
It doesn't have to do with the ringtones because I am using my own ringtone and on my X1 it's low whereas on my other SE C905 it's normal.
Now for those of you who didn't solve this yet, here's what I did and it worked for me thanks to our friend fards.
P.S.: I am not responsible for any defection in your phone using my method. You should do this on your own responsability.
Download fards's AudioPara3_XC_Vodafone_V5.zip which I reuploaded or if you have the original one which I have you will have to download AudioPara3_XC.zip. It's the same file but one for vodafone and the other for original ones that are not locked to one company which is my case.
Now go to your X1 to Windows folder, you have either AudioPara3_XC_xxx.csv if your phone id locked to one company or AudioPara3_XC.csv if you have an unlocked phone. If you can't see these files press menu them show all files to view them. Now copy this csv file and put it somewhere on your desktop as a backup copy.
Unzip the csv file in some folder on your computer. Now download one of these files, which will allow you to copy the csv file to your mobile. Normal file explorer will not allow you to overwrite the csv file on the phone.
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
or direct cab file http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
After you install the software go to your Xperia open the software, navigate to Windows folder got the the AudioPara3_XC file and remove the read only option for the file. Now put your downloaded csv file to your phone (not to Windows folder, you can't paste it there). Using the total commander, navigate to where you copied the new csv file, then copy/move this file, and put the destination \Windows\ then soft reset your phone and you're done.
BTW after resetting the phone, the voice control interface changed, I don't know if it's due to the new csv but it kinda looks cool .
Thank you fards for the help
ehajj
thanks for the help. Just a few queries before I go ahead.
1) Will restoring the original AudioPara3_XC_xxx.csv file to its original destination will make the phone as it was before or its a irreversible process?
2) Does this increase the speaker volume (for tones) or only the earpiece volume?
Thanks for your prompt help!
Hi Moleculez,
1) The purpose of backing up the original file is to be able to restore the phone volume to its original state, so yes it's a reversible process.
2) I noticed an increase in the speaker volume and that's what I wanted in first place. For the earpiece I don't know yet as I just got my X1 on saturday afternoon so I am still Xperiencing with it.
I'm Having a slight problem, here, wonder if anyone can help.
I'm using total commander, trying to remove the read-only attribute from the .csv files in my x1/windows folder.
I touch and hold the file, and select properties, then clear the read-only checkbox, check the change checkbox, and click now.
Upon reselecting the.csv file, and opening properties, it is still read-only.
Am i doing something wrong? should i soft reset at this point to change the attribute?
Any help much appreciated, as i'd love my X1 to be a bit louder.
By the way, its a generic UK X1. (CarphoneWarehouse 02 unlocked/unbranded)

why are you trying to remove the read-only status of a file in rom?
Overwrite the file with the new one, the old one will not be deleted, the operating system will just use the new one instead. If you don't like it delete or rename the new file and after a soft reset the original file will be restored.

WARNING
the file posted for NoBrand X1 attenuates excessively the volume during calling if you use headphone, so for me is not usable...
i've had to re-overwrite to the orginal one

Microphone sensivity with audiopara.csv?

So finally we can use our Shift's as a phone!
After using it for some days I get complaints from people I talk to on the phone that they don't hear me very well.
The mic sensivity is a bit too low.
I've spent some hours to try to find what registry entries to change, and I found someone talking about audiogain, but there are no audiogain keys in my registry (I'm using i00's 9/3 ROM).
EDIT: I have also tried the other phone based ROMS out there. Same problem - People complain about not hearing me very well.
I tried to open the audiopara.csv file from windows folder of theShift, but the values here are hard to understand.
I'm wondering if the file audiopara.csv is possible to edit to change the sensivity of the mic?
Or the Audiopara3.csv
The INC_MIC or INT_MIC might be the lines in the Audiopara.csv or Audiopara3.csv files which needs to be edited. But it is hard to understand what to change the values into.
If we can understand how to change these values, my guess is that the microphone sensivity can be changed easily.
The files are write protected so you have to use Totalcommander to copy them back to WM6 after editing. A good way is to copy them to Vista - edit them - rename them to forexample audiopara.new.csv - copy them to WM6 - and then rename them to Audiopara.csv or audiopara3.csv using Total commander. If you just copy them you will get error message (they are write protected).
If someone tries, please post findings here
Hi again everyone!
I am pretty sure it is the Audiopara.csv or Audiopara3.csv files which has to be edited, but I don't know how to edit the values in these files.
I have a strong feeling that the ....MIC lines in this file has to be edited, but I don't know how to change them to raise the mic sensivity.
Here are the three lines in Audiopara.csv which I have a strong feeling that can be edited for a higher mic sensivity level

Are these values HEX values?
Can someone give me some advice?
Any help appreciated!
Are you sure you got differences when trying a new file? There is no entry in the wavedll registry linking to this file.
Thaihugo, Yes Im sure
I tried the Diamond audiopara3 file found in the csv's attachement in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430029
This is what I did:
1. Installed Total Commander for ppc
2. Downloaded the CSV's attachment
3. Renamed the included Audiopara3.csv to audiopara3new.csv in Vista
3. Copied this file over to the Windows directory on the ppc
4. Renamed the file to Audiopara3.csv to overwrite the copy protected file
5. Soft resetted the WM6 side of the shift
By replacing the original audiopara3.csv file with the one from the thread above showed me that the sound volume is greatly increased. I tested it by opening settings ---> Sounds and Notifications ----> Tab: Notifications and playing different sounds.
I have tried this 2 times now and I am certain that the file changes the volume level on the Shifts WM6 side.
I can't explain why this works, but it sure does!
However, I don't know how to increase the microphone sensivity level! I guess editing some of these lines will do the job.
EDIT: I have now tried to make a call with both Audioparafiles (the original and the one I linked to in this thread).
I can confirm that the mic sensivity is also different with the two audiopara3.csv files. The original audiopara3.csv has better sensivity level for the mic than the one in the csv's.
What do you think, Thaihugo?

MPĀ£ to ringtone or sms notification?

Is there a confirmed app that works for this?
I got tone picker - great as a volume control but the chosen tone doesnt take and reverts back to what ever the original tone was.
tried rings extended and that crashes when you run it.
Is it a simple case of copy the mp3 file I want into a 'ringtones' folder in the root somewhere? Like you did on the ol' WM phones?
Cheers in advance
gurry
You do not need and app although there are several on the market that will do this.... to use your own ringtones you need to create a directory structure on the root of your sd card like this:
media/audio/alarms
media/audio/notifications
media/audio/ringtones
media/audio/ui
copy your mp3's to media/audio/ringtones and then they will be selectable in the normal way.
Oh this information is available in the posts already... using the search sometimes helps although in fairness there are a lot of posts to go through
