Telstra Diamond - Coreplayer: Video playback - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey guys,
Got my Telstra branded Diamond, installed Coreplayer and when playing any video, no matter what setting (in coreplayer; QTv, DirectDraw, etc), file format, resolution, bit rate, codec etc etc...
Well, the video plays smooth for about 1 second then stops, progress bar continues for a bit, smoothly too, then the video jumps ahead catches up, plays smoothly for about 1 second again then stops. Repeat, wash and rinse. Sound comes out fine the whole video.
My memory usage is only at about 75% when using the player. I also tried to install TCMCP - won't even install, seems my Diamond doesn't like the CAB.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers.

Maybe you should flash your diamond with some tweaked rom. The default one suck ass.
About the playback, cant help with your problem but i run the lastest CorePlayer here and play any video smoothly even at higher res.
The only think missing is the AC3 support, im too lazy to convert the movies.
For the TCMCP, you need to install the recompiled cab for the Diamond. You can find it here at the forum. Just do a search.

I don't know coreplayer yet, but it is somewhat similar to TCPMP.
Try lowering the buffer size. it will be depending on the file your trying to play.
Some needs higher buffer size, some don't. Or maybe convert your file in mpg format.

Hi cud it be, that your files are all of WMV formate? I have exactly the same problem, but only with WMV files. What you can do instead, is using the built in Windows Media Player for it enables a smoother playback than the CorePlayer.
Somehow it seems the CorePlayer can not use the ATI Imageon on our Diamonds for now.
Maybe in later versions

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies so far.
I've tried tweaking around with the settings however no such luck. At first I was only trying WMV files then I tried MPEG, AVI and mp4 - All yielded the same results. I'd love to try a cooked ROM but can't as I have a Telstra Diamond and it's different to the rest so I'll lose 850mhz NextG network if I go down that route which is the only reason I haven't so far.
Guess I will just have to wait for cooked Telstra Diamond compatible ROMs.
Cheers,
Byron.

nice and speedy. I never found the original TyTN a slouch, but now that there's a lot of memory available I can run several apps in parallel (even while playing long audio files).
i have installed coreplayer and tcpmp player on my kaiser. both are excellent on performance. the only thing is that the tcpmp player used to be able to play all the WMV files in my wm5 o2 flame but now on the wm6 kaiser, it wont show the wmv files at all in my video folder.
anyone knows why? is it my setting problem?
thanks, eric

This is an issue with the wmv files that they included on wm6. There is a posting somewhere on the codecodec forums linking to a posting here which has a zip file with the dll's you need. Just unzip them into the codecodec dir.

And I quote.
"Finally, in order to test the horsepower of the TyTN II I installed The Core Pocket Media Player and watched a few sample videos. What amazed me here is that I was able to put a video clip on the internal storage memory of the device that was NOT optimised for pocket PC and despite the DivX video being 640 x 320 it played back without so much of a stutter! This is something that I’ve never been able to do on any other device."

thanks so much i found it and fixed it.
How did you fix it?
i downloaded the 2 wmvencoder.dll files and dragged them into the windows dir, then installed .81 rc1. wmv can be decoded now but the performance is not good. i m still trying to find out why. but now at least it can play wmv files.
Does anyone know the settings for TCPMP and the Kaiser so that it plays video correct when slide is open and flipped up?
At the moment it plays ok in portrait (tap the screen and it goes landscape full screen) but when I actually open and tilt I cant get it to rotate and play full screen. it stays in portrait???
any ideas?

I experience exactly the same thing. I can play wmv files, but the performance is poor.
Did you by any chance find a solution?
PS! The poor performance is experienced in both TCPMP and Coreplayer.
Check this thread out...

Per the above post.
"... I'm using TCPMP and I've found that the following steps help relieve some of the problems.
1. Options/Video:
Change from DirectDraw to Raw FrameBuffer
Uncheck "Dither" (whatever that is)
2. Options/Video/Pixel Aspect Ratio: set to Auto
3. Options/Settings/Advanced
Check "Slow Video Memory"
4. Options/Settings/Buffering
Change "Preload at Underrun" to 85%
Note: I'm using PocketDIVxEncoder to convert everything to AVI files with the right audio/video size and format and I've tweaked the rom quite a bit. The most important setting change I've found to improve response of programs/video came from the vx6700 forums:
H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE/limit
change setting to either 32758 or 65536
I've tried both, and I'm using 32758 because it's a smaller memory footprint, but 65536 appears slightly faster.
"
Has not helped much. I am trying to play an H264 file encoded at 640x480, 23.976 frame rate. palying back via the FFmpeg AVC format. Audio sounds fine, but I am getting less than 1 frame per second of video. Is it the H.264 codec? I know it is close to the mp4 format, but one of the posters in the referenced thread said these settings helped (for .mp4), where for me it they do not.

utak3r can you help? WMP stuttering

I have upgraded to WM6 (C_ShekharAKU7.0b.R40.P24_public) from 2003, and I’m blown away. The main reason I use my XDA (Himalaya) is for watching movies as I travel a lot. My movies are converted to a WMV file.
The problem I have is that when playing the movie, the video stutters and the audio plays a few seconds’ ahead i.e. sync probs. Any ideas? I don’t want to go back to 2003.
Thanks
Hi there,
I can't help with the problem but I can confirm that I have the identical problem
*Upgraded from 2003SE
*Movies are converted to WMV
*Video stutters and audio is a few seconds ahead.
I've done a few tests to try determine what the issue might be but no luck.
*Tried testing testing at many different audio and video rates down to the lowest possible rates (60kbps and so on)
*Tried closing all other programs that were open using task manager
*Tried moving the file from my SD card onto the Himalaya (suspecting the SD was not able to be read fast enough). This WORKED for the first replay, but went back to its normal stuttering directly after.
I've been trying to recreate that ONE time when it worked, but with no luck.
I can confirm that between the working time and non-working time, I didn't install anything, and I doubt I changed any settings, though can't be sure.
Anyway, maybe you can try a few of the things that I did. In your case, it may work.
Use TCPMP to play all your movie file.
If there are problems, convert your file to any format rather than WMV. ex, MP4.
I use TCPMP to play a whole movie.
If your movie file is a DVD, convert it using Nero Recode...
Hope this helps!
As for playing movies... TCPMP and all is done You can download plugins for quite a number of various movie formats
And as for recoding... I recommend PocketPC DivX Encoder, aided with MediaCoder.
Check
Guys
I also had this problem where the whole device's sound was stuttering. Even when the phone rings.
I could not use media player because of this.
I reflashed my ROM and did not install the WM6 sound fix............
Since then i did not have this problem again.
My sound is perfect!! Try it out!!
Cheers
installed TCPMP all fine. Best version ever.
GB Softweak
HI guys
I have located this problem.
I tried to install GB softweak...for the gprs disconnection. After i enabled it, my device's sound started stuttering.
It was exactly what it did when i first posted this problem.
I uninstalled GB softweak...................the sound is back to normal, and no stuttering.
Hope it helps!

Video performance

Hi,
How is the video performance of this HTC Diamond?
Do you still need to re-encode the video file?
Or you can throw in "regular" 700 MB Xvid video file and it will be played flawlessly?
Thanks.
So far I have not faced any problems in playing 700MB full movies I hve never re-encoded the video files I play it on TCPMP player.... hope it helps....
No problem playing 1,4 Gb film that is stored on your LAN harddrive and youre viewing it through WiFi. Hope that proves Diamond is a performance beast (but dont hold it in your palm or youll get yourself a nice burn mark.

Well I wouldn't go that far. My hx4700 still outperforms the Diamond on hi-res videos. And I am using Raw Framebuffer, not the ATI switch on the hx4700. Using ATI is pretty much absolutely flawless except for the green tint bug.
Some videos fly on the Diamond, some are slow, some are real slow. Encoding methods really make the difference. Much more obvious on the Diamond.
I can't use TCPMP. I tried 3 different ROMs and everytime it crashes at the beginning.

yep, exactly this message With core player i have only a purple image, no movie, tried with several file types. In Media Player i can play .mp4 files, but its really hard to convert everything before playing -.-
Coreplayer watching XVID's seems fine to me
also looks ace on a screen like this
The HTC default player as well as the WMP player in Diamond can both play MP4 videos encoded with H.264, the same codec that is supported by flash player 9 or later. The performance seems good so far. Haven't done any bench mark testing though.

what do i have to do to get smooth video?

This is a great place!
I have been reading all the threads that might have anything to do with video playback.
I've installed those 3D drivers and graphics were improved on that hologram thing and "light 3d"
Still, video playback is choppy and im grinding my teeth seeing it!
I have converted videos in all kinds of formats in all kids of FPS and KBPS and kept VGA resolution and still no use.
Have i missed something?
thanks!!
what media player are you using dude? ive been using TCMP for the longest time and i have no problems on playing my videos/movies...
i tried using the built in windows media player, coreplayer, and i have used tcpmp once but the bottom taskbar was black so i didnt know what problem that program had.
anyways, the tcpmp didnt play smooth. maybe i had a bad version?
Have you tried viewing some other content other than your own converted files? try using the attached sample avi with all 3 players and see how that goes.
ive tried the videos that came with the phone.
windows media player handles videos much better than coreplayer but still no smooth video.
this is weird, on other ppc's that ive had (a few) coreplayer/tcpmp played videos much better than wmp.
over here its the exact opposite.
how come?
what ROM are you using?
original ROM that came with the diamond.
in my case its 2.o3
israel orange
help? anyone?
I don't know anyone here who is on the same ROM. you could try upgrading the ROM??
what ROM should i use?
can i extract the hebrew that comes with the ROM currently on my diamond?
i kinda need it
well of course that the built in WMP will play the video smoother than the core player. It`s because only WMP can use the hardware accelerator in the phone.
still the core player don`t have the proper drivers to access to the GPU.
ya it plays smoother, but still not smooth.
and theres all this tearing.

make sure you use qtv
With TCPMP set Video to GDI.
i installed tcpmp and when i ran it it came up with a message "crashed"
and it won't run.
i used Qtv with the coreplayer and it was still slugish
Be sure you use the version on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519543&highlight=TCPMP
It works great on my Diamond.
Ive installed a tcpmp from another thread from this forum.
It works and plays videos but its still slugish.
Is there a patch or a fix i was supposed to install?
Smooth video playback
Hi all,
I was having problems with jerky video playback.
I did some searching and found this link-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
It works a treat really smooth and in 640 480
WELL DONE
I saw this too...
It doesn't play smooth on my device.
still, this is the program i use to convert video if i wanna play something on my diamond
even tho it stinks (the diamond not the program!)
Hi idandavid,
PM me your email and I will send you a mov video of my Diamond playing a smooth video.
Or send me a video, I will conver it and try playing it on my Diamond. I can then send you the converted file to compare on your Diamond.
Hope this helps

Video playback constant lag

Hi,
100% noob but have a really annoying problem!
Everytime I playback a video it lags constantly. On youtube or even a video I have loaded on through my sd card.
Does anyone have the same problem or know a solution?
Thanks a heap!!!
had the exact same problem - spent so long trying those tweaks and different codecs and so on... nothing got it smooth and still have decent quality - my solution was to get an iPod Touch... but this thread may help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459676
Sigh... It has been discussed many times. Use the converter on the first page (the last "sticky" thread) to covert your files to mp4 format. After that watch them with WMP.
For other files use CorePlayer, but it will lag, because it doesn't have hardware acceleration..
Use CorePlayer for YouTube. It is perfect.
In coreplayer you can use Qtv and set the quality to medium. Even on WM6.5 ROMs with manila 2.5 running, video playback is smooth. I watch full size divx files from my SD card without problems.
The coreplayer menus are a nightmare, though. You have to go to tools, preferences, select page, video. Then choose Qtv and medium.
